My son is a Cabo Bob's fanatic, so when this location opened up, he made sure we made it out here. I have been to one of their other locations in town and knew I was in for a good meal. This location has a pretty small parking lot that was packed at lunch, but it seems like alot of that traffic is to go orders. They also have a drive thru, which other similar concept restaurants do not have. We came towards the middle of the lunch rush, but they keep thing moving like a well oiled machine. Everyone who worked there was pleasant, and the manager was present and making sure everyone was ok. Their concept is similar to all the other burrito chains in town. You go down a line and either go with one of their creations, or create one of your own. You have your choice of burritos, tacos, nachos, quesadillas, bowls or salads. I like that they have a variety of different tortilla flavors, so I went with a burrito. I'm usually a bowl kind of guy, but everyone and their momma had burritos in there and they looked good. They have a nice variety of protein, rice, beans, salsas, queso and veggies. I went with the chicken which was huge chunks of cubes chicken that was seasoned really well. They don't skimp either. I had to start prioritizing toppings so my burrito wouldn't become unmanageable. I gotta say, my baby sized burrito was damn good. I also like they have bottles of their sauce if you need a little more at your seat. We shared a regular chips and queso which was plenty for two people. They have bottled Mexican sodas as well as craft soda fountain drinks. Overall, I think this place is a better option than some of the other larger chains. I wanted to see what all the hype is about Cabo Bob's. To my surprised, Cabo Bob's excel my expectations. As I entered, the restaurant had a nice beach feel. There was booth, high chairs, and regular tables to set at. There was lots of seating that can accommodate all types of people. As we was looking at the menu, Cabo Bobs is like your typical fast fashioned Mexican restaurant. They had burritos, tacos, salads, bowls, nachos, and quesadillas. I was greeted by the staff and the first decision i had to make was which item and what tortilla. I finally decided to ordered a burrito with fried fish. I was told that they are know for their fried fish and wanted to give it a try. I was shocked to see how many pieces of fish they were putting into my burrito. I was thinking to my self that the burrito is not going to even close just with rice and protein. I then continue to add my toppings and made it a huge burrito. My girlfriend order a steak salad. We also decided to share an appetizer of chips and queso. For their chips and queso, their chips are a little thicker and the queso meshed perfectly with each other. As for our entrees, i enjoyed my burrito. I really love the fish. It was very fresh and moist with a crunchy exterior. However personally I don't think I would pair a burrito with the fried fish. Next time I would pair it with the taco. All their toppings really help create the dish and provide a yummy burrito. However the salad was alright. With it being in a plastic container, I wish they change it to provide a more eco friendly way to serve their salads. With that being said, it was very hard to mix the dressing into the salad. First, I stand there for a good 3-4 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge me. I'm the only one in line (except an employee on break who literally stood there in my way) while the drive thru girl (headset and braces) talked to the cooks. Finally, when the cook said "help her", she turned around, saw me and kept talking. When she finally decided she was done talking she did start my tortillas. I noticed a manager there (lavender shirt at the register) and she didn't pay any attention to the 6 employees standing around talking while I stood there, Did I mention again that the young kid on break in line with me would not move so I could get my toppings? I won't be returning, this was the final straw. I'll take my business to the one near my job. This was after work during busy times. The team here is so on top of refilling everything. The burrito was perfect. They even have this mango pico de gallo and let me tell you. It was so good I came back the same week. The food is decent, but the customer service is terrible. Every time I go through the drive-thru, I encounter issues. It's frustrating. Today, I ordered a burrito, and when I tried to add a quesadilla, the employee told me it wasn't on the drive-thru menu because it takes longer to make. I'm always gonna be a bit biased towards Cabo Bob's from my undergraduate nostalgia eating at the original locations in Austin. However, this location from my several experiences during the first week of grand opening to a revisit once a month for the next 2 months afterwards have been lacking. The food is great as always, with the #2 deluxe fish being my recommendation and go-to. I prefer it in a burrito if I'm feeling hungry, or tacos for a cleaner eating experience. The tortillas are always pressed fresh before you, and the fried fish fillets are churned through quickly, so often times you're getting a fresh or close-to-fresh and crispy batch. Their hot sauces have a wonderful vinegary kick that a nice contrast, with the perfect heat level. The fountain drinks are great, especially the grapefruit soda. Chips and salsa for $2 are plenty for a table to share. The only thing they're stingy on is the guacamole and they don't spread it from the center, so your bites will be inconsistent. Where I'm surprised to say they're lacking is their communication. They've consistently messed up orders for myself and someone else within the group friends or family I'd bring. For example, I would order upfront a #2 as-is on a burrito-sized cilantro tortilla. Instead of confirming what they think they heard, they end up throwing something else entirely on the cooktop. One time was a plain burrito tortilla, another ended up as several different taco tortillas instead. The first time I just ate it anyways, but the next I corrected them and they threw it in the trash. I would rather have taken them to-go empty, or even pay extra for the couple tortillas than have it be wasted. During my last visit, I'd tell the first guy I'm having a #2 as-is, no alterations. Somehow the information isn't passed on to the next, so I'm relaying the same info several times. This was the same case for another friend ordering straight off the preset menu. By the end, I noticed they completely forgot the chipotle crema sauce (it'd be dry without it), but luckily I noticed it just as they began wrapping it, so it was relatively easy to correct. One friend ordered half and half proteins (with smaller portion of each to match) but the again the staff don't seem to communicate internally well, so by the time they reached the cashier, they were mistakenly charged additional for a "double up" which is meant to be twice the protein serving. TLDR: I'm still going to be a regular because the food is still fresh, well-portioned, and delicious. I expected them to have improved their training and service since they've been open for a little bit now. You need to stay on top of them yourself for an accurate order. read more

This little healthy fast food style is a hidden gem. It originated from California and there's a few locations of it in Austin. So glad this now is available in Houston. It's a good mix of Chuys and Chipotle style... you get to choose and make your food item just like chipotle. Service is great and they are friendly in helping you through the very end. The flavors are there. Next time I will try a sauce that is spicier, perhaps the Spicy Jalapeño for added heat. The Brownie and Churro Blondie are good as desserts. These burritos are HUGE - fully stuffed with any unlimited toppings you choose. Of course toppings like guacamole is extra charge but there are enough free ones to choose from. I've never had outstanding service on the level of this place. I was waiting for my friend and two employees politely checked on me and gave me a rundown of the menu and specials. I got the deluxe fish and my sister got the Baja fish, both of which were amazing. The fish was fresh and fried perfectly, the onions I asked for were fresh too, and the manager checked on all the guests including us after we finished. They're cheaper than chipotle and Pacific Tacos and most importantly the tortillas are made fresh in front of you. The whole staff is super nice and I'm glad it's right by me. I had been looking forward to this place for months after hearing rave reviews from Austin friends. After finally trying it today, I get the hype. The food is really quite fresh and tasty. I had the Spicy Pig bowl and my 3 year old had a kids burrito and chips/queso. The portions for the price are in line with every other fast casual dining spot especially after you factor in the quality here. I ordered to go. The flavor was there. I ordered two meals. One steak and one chicken. Chips and guacamole on the side. My only complaint is it became a soggy mess. I blame the tortillas. I had to make my own tortillas when I got home. It's always disappointing when I have to salvage take out. I did enjoy the size of the large guacamole. The chips though are super hard but they taste made in house. I think next time I will try the salad and ask for tortillas on the side. This is a good competitor for chipotle but not as good as uberito use to be when it was open. Uberito had layers of flavor and a good amount of spice. I choose not to take pictures. read more
