She brought over tortilla chips and pico/corn salsa. Pico was on top of the corn salsa. It was pretty good. They have a solid bar with TVs and every tequila you could think of. We ordered the lemon grilled shrimp taco. I was afraid because most shrimp tacos have 3 small shrimp but this thing was stuffed and it was one of the best tasting tacos I ever had. My second taco was the steak taco with the roasted tomato sauce. Man. That taco was damn good. My wife got the quesadilla. It was loose and hard to eat but that was her problem. Tacos were amazing. This was not my first time eating here. And I can honestly say that the experience is consistent every... single...time. We arrived early on a Friday evening and were promptly seated. In fact, it took way longer for us to find parking than it did to get a table. Our waitress was patient and attentive throughout our visit. She was also knowledgeable about the menu as well as dietary restrictions (gluten-free). We took her suggestion about mixing and matching to try different tacos. Our food came out very quickly. All of our orders were prepared exactly as requested. The portions are generous and the food was flavorful. Just a few warnings: the complimentary salsa is a bit on the spicy side. The Honey Wasabi Sauce on the Tavarua tacos was a little heavy but I survived. If I had to take off for anything, it would be the ambiance. Traveled down to the Noda district to hit up a location I love but unfortunately they weren't open at the time I arrived so the waiter recommended Cabo Fish Taco. Crazy as this sounds, I'm glad my spot was closed because I wouldn't have tried this restaurant! Upon entering the hostess asked me how many and walked me to a table. Shortly after sitting, I was greeted by Hannah. I decided on ordering the Baja Shrimp & Crab dip as my appetizer and the Lemon grilled shrimp tacos with a Queen City margarita to drink. The food came out fairly quickly and Hannah made sure to check-in at the right pace. So glad the waiter at my spot was nice enough to recommend another restaurant that was open when they weren't! Been here a few times with friends and just family. My biggest note is consistency. I've ordered the same thing 4 times. Avocado Pasta Salad + Thai Chili tofu taco. Some days the pasta salad is perfect nice balance of heat and salt. Other days, it's super spicy. Sometimes with the cheese on top, other times without. The tofu taco, sometimes it's perfectly crisp and the batter is nice and seasoned. Other times it's one or the other. Regardless, I've came back a few times it's hit or miss for me. To differentiate themselves from a normal Mexican restaurant, they offer pico and chips as an appetizer instead of the usual salsa. We also started with margaritas (the large ones) and they were HUGE. More than enough for our entire visit. For an appetizer we got the shrimp and crab dip. I am a person who likes more crab/cream cheese than onion flavor and this one had more onions so just not my thing - but again it's all about preference. The actual dish was cooked nicely. Great tacos! Really enjoyed the flavor and just the right spicyness. The plantains were also a treat. I don't get these too often and they had a nice caramelized finish to them. So, it was Friday, May 6, and we still had a taste for Mexican, So my son took to NoDa to try out Cabo Fish Taco. It has a very relaxing vibe, which I needed after traveling through traffic. The decor kept up with the artsy vibe of the area Our server, Lindsay, was very sweet and helpful. She was attentive to our needs and made great suggestions. Surprisingly, I was not in the mood for a margarita. I was actually interested in trying one of their beers on tap. Lindsay allowed me to sample two and I enjoyed both. I went with the D'Mango Unchained from Armored Cow Brewery. I am not a huge beer drinker, but over the years have found some that I really like. Let your servers know that you are a Wine drinker and they can give you something that would be comparable in a beer. My son and I both order the Mexi-Mahi burrito and it was delicious. It was so filling that I was able to take half of it home along with half my plantains that I got on the side. My son went with this avocado salad as a side and it was very tasty as well. The salsa that they served with chips was not your typical salsa because it had fresh corn and jalapenos in it which added to the taste. Overall, I have a good experience. The service was great. I cannot believe I haven't left a review for Cabo Fish Taco before now. This gem in NoDa is one of our favorite spots to go to. The staff is always on top of their game. Friendly but not overly chatty cause they are hustling!! The restaurant itself is pretty big for NoDa standards. They can seat a fairly large group. Probably up to 10 in one of the two large booths they have. But there are plenty of tables and bar seating. The food is always a 10/10!! Freshly made seafood tacos, quesadillas and salads!! They have none seafood items as well but I highly recommend you try the seafood. Drinks are fantastic and they have a very unique salsa. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My husband and I have been coming to Cabo Fish Taco for several years and we have always enjoyed the food and friendly atmosphere but this last visit - on our first anniversary no less - was a giant disappointment and has me concerned about the integrity of the staff and management.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We came in on Monday Dec 23rd and noticed that on the blackboard that it was Margarita Monday so when we got seated I quickly decided I'd get my usual the Queen city Margarita. We waited at least 10 minutes before our server came to the table & I ordered the Queen City after he explained they were $1 off. What he brought me was definitely not the Queen City margarita and when I told him it should have blood orange purée in it he took it back and returned very quickly with a pinkish drink with no puree but I elected not to pursue that. Then, our dinner came. We had ordered two appetizers and decided to split a blackened chicken & shrimp burrito. The appetizers came out ok and the burrito made it to the table at about the same time. I took a bite of the burrito and realized instantly that it was not what we ordered. There was no rice and beans, no shrimp, only chicken with some lettuce, a less expensive option on the menu. We alerted him right away and he picked up my husband's half, looked at it, put it down on the plate and stated that there was new kitchen staff that were not familiar with the menu. He brought us the correct burrito about 5 minutes later to bring home with us. I have a child in the food service industry and would never not tip a server for a mistake in the kitchen or at the bar but I think that the servers should be familiar with the food and drinks they're serving so they don't grab the wrong plate/drink or bring a bartender or cook's mistake to the table. So many great seafood taco options! We came on the 4th of July for dinner and had a short wait for a table on the patio. They have an link to track your wait progess which is helpful. Immediately after getting seated, they brought out chips and salsa....and the salsa also had a corn element that made it a really interesting and great starter! They had a decent selection of local IPA's.....always a critical part of the dining experience :) My bride ordered the combo ($14) with Grilled Cod Taco and Grilled Salmon with side of plantains and really enjoyed them. I went with the combo as well ($14) with the Blackened Cod Taco special and Lemon Shrimp with Baja Rice. The cod taco was really dry and disappointing - but the shrimp redeemed the meal. Inside is open and modern with Hawaiian decor. We started out with some queso to go with the complimentary chips and salsa. What I didn't like: the salsa was a combination of diced tomatoes and corn. It lacked flavor and was very difficult to top on top of your chip. It wasn't a bad taco, but it could have been better still. Other than the taco, you're served chips and a corn salsa. The salsa was unique, but again mild on the flavor. I think the corns made it difficult to "dip" with the tortilla chips. On the plus side, it was a recipe beyond the typical salsa you get at other restaurants, but it was just missing something. As many noted, parking is difficult, but it's difficult for the entire area. I wouldn't count against this place due to its parking. I got takeout from here, they're online ordering system is very easy and straightforward to use and the food was ready for pick up within 20 minutes. They also have delivery options. They have a big variety of seafood Mexican dishes as well as things like chicken and beef dishes. I got the Epic Tuna burrito with a side of jalapeno cheddar mash. The side was nothing extravagant, just simply mashed potatoes with some shredded cheddar on top and diced pickled jalapenos. The burrito was fairly good but I tasted a lot of nutmeg (I believe that's what it was) and I don't think that flavor fit in with the rest of the burrito so it threw me off. Cabo Fish Taco was a stop on our weekend Charlotte food tour! Be aware it can be tricky to get street parking nearby, but there's several paid lots for public parking close by. You can park it for the day and stroll up and down the block and have all the bars, breweries and restaurants you'd need for an entire day. We had planned to do that, and our server Jamie was fantastic, giving us recommendations for her favorite spots nearby. I could tell she really put thought into the spots she recommended to us, and our service was on point the entire meal. We stayed for a while drinking and snacking and I never felt rushed, but also we weren't left alone without drink refills or anything like that. Their margaritas are really good and they have lots of options, including rotating specials. I really like that you can mix and match tacos for your entree, even combining the two sections of the menu if you'd like. I got the fried shrimp and the Serrano grilled chicken. I thought it was delicious. Even my daughter who normally doesn't like corn enjoyed it. We got the queso dip as an appetizer. This is an orange color, and flavored well; a perfect accompaniment to the salsa. The chips were fresh and light, also lightly salted. We had Fried White Fish Tacos and Grilled Mahi Tacos. Second stop on last day in Charlotte. Decided to have lunch at Cabo Fish Tacos at NoDA. So happy I did. Service was friendly and attentive. As soon as we were seated, warm and crispy corn tortilla chips were served with fresh corn and tomato salsa. We then placed our salmon fish tacos with side of black beans and rice. My friend ordered fried tofu tacos with side of plantains and mimosa. The salmon fish tacos were deliciously seasoned, salmon chunks were tender and tasted fresh. The sriracha sauce was perfect in amount, texture and taste. The black beans and rice was delicious with the right amount of moisture and rice was fluffy and cooked perfectly. The tofu in my friend's tacos looked like they were fried in light airy crispy batter. My friend said the Thai chili sauce that came with the tofu tacos was delicious, she actually asked for more and the waitress obliged with a smile. Cabo Fish Taco was highly recommended to me from the gal working across the street in one of the boutiques as a light lunch with "funky tacos." After taking a little peek at yelp, I ordered the Lemon Grilled Shrimp Tacos. OMG. Y'all. SO SO good! They were full of flavorful and were one of the *best* tacos I have ever had, like ever ever!
