Criminal. This chain on the water chain charges 22.00 for a sweet, average Mai Thai. They don't list prices for drinks, so shame on me. So, we sat on uncomfortable stools looking out at the water while servers walked by serving seafood that smelled like old fish. Stinky. Really. This place is OK. I feel like most places at John's Pass are touristy. They want to draw you in for over priced and cheap ingredient food, and this place fits that bill. I remember it took forever for the waiter to come around to take our drink order. The place was not busy with a lot of available seating. Surprising as there was an event at John's Pass and the streets were packed. The food and drinks being brought to the table took a long time also. I felt the vibe from the waiter like he didn't want to be there. Food was mediocre at best. I had a burger and chips, my wife had the grouper reuben. We both agreed that the food quality wasn't the best. At the end of the day, we were able to meet up with friends, share a drink and a sandwich, and spend time catching up. Formerly "The Hut" at the waters edge of John's Pass nestled neatly just under the boardwalk is the new & improved "Caddy's @ Johns Pass. Part of the growing local Caddy's chain this is Madeira Beach's second Caddy's location after the recently opened beachfront restaurant at 14080 Gulf Blvd. As with all the Caddy's locations, the waterfront views and nautical ambience are typically quite stellar and worthy of us locals bringing our out of town guests for the "Florida Beach Experience". It is a grill & bar type of establishment with a menu that has options for most everyone. As a longtime local we like to visit a Caddy's location regularly, the food is typically quite good and the beer cold - but the stellar waterfront experience makes it a regular favorite. We've been a fan of their Blackened Mahi or Shrimp Taco's with French Fries. As we're pescatarians I cannot attest to any meat offerings but their seafood group has been very good in our experience. The Hut features occasional live music with the stage over the top of their kitchen but nestled under the huge thatched tiki roof. There are dock dining areas extending out into the pass with tables & umbrellas that immerse you into "The Pass". The area is definitely quite large and there are many great seats with excellent views of the Pass and boats. The service is generally very good but in today's difficult labor environment one should expect a possible occasional delay. They are partnered with "Scully's Restaurant" adjacent for a more formal dining experience and additional offerings. If you love Florida's waterfront and beaches, I highly recommend a visit as the "whole experience" is difficult to match! Visited John's Pass in Madeira Beach yesterday. We had 6 in our group. A great day trip with a lots of local shops, and eateries to experience. We chose Caddy's for lunch, because they had an outdoor patio on the water, and it was a warm sunny day. They were busy, and we did have a 35 minute wait, however it was worth it. We had a variety of dishes, Fish and Chips which was firm, flaky and with great taste. Very generous filet, with Fries and choice of 1 side. We also had the Blackened Mahi-mahi Taco's, which were amazing, very tasty with a little heat from the sriracha sauce. Lastly the Ahi Tuna Salad was very fresh and tasty. To round out our experience was having a great server, Kaytlin. She was very attentive, friendly, very outgoing personality which made the experience more memorable. Would definitely recommend Caddy's if you visit John's Pass. As you dine, keep an eye on the water, as the Dolphins will most likely be entertaining you. :) read more

First time stopping in a Caddy's, I was told this is a fairly new location 3 months or so. Fits in the area very well with TONS of water view seating. I sat at the bar and could still catch some great views. Ordered the Mahi Tacos and they were not shy with the portion of Mahi!! I was really torn on taking a trip to caddy's due to the mixed reviews but knew it was a local staple. We were told an hour wait but ended up waiting an hour and half . I finally asked how much longer and they said they had to wait for people to finish bingo even though they were finished eating. I thought that was disappointing enough but once we finally got seated, they sat us in seats that had the rain pouring onto them. My kids and I had stood in the rain long enough and I finally got fed up and left. Nobody cared and literally said ok, whatever when I complained. Had a very poor experience at Caddy's last night. On the outside, it appeared very upbeat and nice, especially the outdoor seating on the water. We got seated within 15 minutes, which was nice on a busy weekend night, but we soon after figured out why... I don't remember our waiters name, but she was very attentive, which we appreciated. She would get a 5 star review from me!! We put in calamari as an appetizer with our drink order, but they did not come out until minutes before our food. We ended up having to send them back as well because by that point, they were cold. Not one to typically send stuff back either, but seafood will be my exception on that. We also ordered the seafood platter, which was a complete waste of $32 for the portion of food received. We had to laugh because we really could not believe it. The table beside us voiced the same concern as well (and more after getting to talking to them for a bit). I will say, the Mahi tacos weren't bad. For a seafood dinner that we compared to previous restaurants we had visited on the island, they were just okay though. Nothing to run home about. Would not recommend or come back here for the food! Caddy's was delish! We tried the calamari, snapper, fish and chips, and kids chicken tenders. Service was quick and my dad said the snapper was "the best he's ever had." My family and I recently dined here, well briefly, and I regret suggesting it in the first place. I understand this is an outdoor establishment but that doesn't mean all safety and health codes go out the door. When we first walked in, there was a puddle and several wet bricks at the bottom of the stairs, someone not paying attention would possibly fall. We walked over to the host stand and she was great, probably the only reason I'm comfortable giving this restaurant one star. The hostess was super friendly and attentive, immediately seated us on the outdoor patio. The outdoor patio could use some cleaning. When we left my daughter noticed I had bird poop on the back of my shirt. The view was great, right on the water. Our waiter came pretty quickly and was friendly. We ordered beverages and appetizers; peel and eat shrimp, calamari, and a kids hot dog to start. This is where it went completely downhill. I ate one shrimp, turn the plate and there's a large dead fly in between the shrimp. If this was made to order, there shouldn't be a dead fly. The walk from the kitchen to our table was not that far for it to just drop and die. The fried Calamari was also dry and coating was pretty much coming off the calamari. Hot dog looked like it had been rewarmed, only the fries looked and tasted freshly made. The waiter didn't see' shocked to see the fly, kind of brushed it off and we asked for another order of the shrimp. He left the plate with the dead fly on another table and continued with his time. It wasn't until we left the table, that the host went and took the plate from the table and brought it back to the kitchen. This was a concern for us, how long had the fly been there, was any of the food being properly handled, etc. At this point, we got up and went to pay. There was absolutely no way we could eat from here. We paid for what we ordered and while standing there with the manager, I got a glimpse of the kitchen and I'm glad we left. I wish I would have noticed it prior to sitting down. So overall, for my family and I this is not a place we'd visit again. read more

So why only 2 stars? The drink menu does not have prices. What most restaurants charge for a fruity 12oz drink is $7-$10 , they charge $19 !!!! It was unbelievable when we revived the bill ! We generally would not ask in advance the price knowing what the going rate at almost every other restaurant charges. My recommendation, go next door to any other place to have a drink. Sat on the water side which was a pretty view to watch boats coming and going. Beware the birds can be pretty annoying and swarm the tables to pick scraps when someone leaves their table. Please do yourself a favor and skip this place. It's a tourist trap and worse, the food is nearly inedible. They seem to do an OK job with the protein. My blackened shrimp basket shrimp were fine and my partner's blackened grouper was good but the sides? No. Inedible rice, hard as a rock! Soupy, sweet coleslaw, mushy mixed vegetables? Come on. I could do better and I've never stepped foot in a restaurant kitchen. Sad, sad, sad!!!! I used to come to the hut all the time but it looks like it has been purchased and now it is Caddy's. They said it would be a 30 minute wait but it was 50 minutes. Food took an hour and 20 minutes to get to table. I get it staff shortages but I would just seat less people. We were a party of 2 that got a kids cheeseburger, calamari and a quesadilla. Calamari came first and was definitely not fresh and was 100% frozen at some point it was soft. Quesadilla was cold and mushy Now 1:45 later we are ready to leave and my sons burger never came lol. Unfortunately we would not recommend eating here. From the very start we put our name in for a table and after waiting 30 mins we checked in and they didn't have our name in line at all. So double check and make sure you get a confirmation text from the start about your reservation. Eventually we were finally seated (after yet ANOTHER issue with our name not being top of the list) and did have a very nice waitress who was attentive. The slushy margarita was advertised as having patron but I didn't taste even the slightest hint of alcohol in it. All of the other mixed drinks were the same - no taste of alcohol so I would stick with beer (the first three beers we tried to order they were out of) if you actually want to taste something. We stopped in Sunday while visiting John's Pass and had a great time. We sat near the water and were able to watch some dolphins. Our server, Ian was super friendly and attentive as well. We had bucket drinks and nachos with impossible crumbles. The food came out without the crumbles initially but Ian was on it right away and the nachos were very good. They are dog friendly, inside offers heaters when it gets cold, and they had live music with a fun atmosphere. This was an overall great experience. read more

Big TVs on the inside, which is cool if you're watching a sports game or something. Drinks were pretty weak and the prices weren't listed on the menu (aka overpriced). We got the calamari and compared to other calamari we've had in Florida, it reminded me more of the calamari we've got in KC.
