I like Cafe Alma. It's a very popular breakfast/brunch location in Cincinnati and a happening place if you are looking to enjoy your social life with friends (or family!). They have both savory and sweet breafast/lunch dish (they recommend shashuka for savory and pistachio waffles for sweets--but also mentioned you can't really go wrong with any choice. My friend and I shared Challah French toast and Rosewater pistachio dish. They were totally instagram worthy and look beautiful. They taste quite good, too...although I wish the dishes aren't as bland (I thought the waffles were good..but..I really didn't taste much pistachio or rose water at all). Overall, great place with nice service. It can be a little loud depending on which section of the restaurant you sit in as well. But, in general, the service is friendly, many dishes to try...and seemed ok price point vice for the trendy/instagram type of place. read more

We've been to Cafe Alma for brunch several times, and it's always a hit! The cafe is larger on the inside than you initially expect. There are also two outdoor patios. There's a small parking lot, but it's not terribly easy to turn around in if it's full. We always opt to park just down the block in a parking lot. Reservations are accepted for parties of five or more. There are two or three in our party, and we've only had to take our second location preference (outside on a humid day) once. I would love to see them take reservations for smaller parties, though. Our waitress was very outgoing and sweet! We were initially seated at a table that was a bit wobbly. She noticed right away, and moved us to another table. Then, she made sure to notify the hostess that she shouldn't seat anyone there until the issue was fixed. The food and coffee are always fresh. Highlights included fresh squeezed orange juice, the seasonal Salted Maple Latte (Please add to the permanent menu!), and the Blazin' Balkan Shakshuka. The Chocolate Chip Tahini Pancakes were topped with just the right amount of bananas and strawberries to cut through the sweetness of the pancakes. I've found that few restaurants I initially fall in love with manage to remain this consistently good for this long. I have absolutely adored this vegetarian eatery since I first visited last fall, and have given it a regular spot in my remote work rotation. Don't miss out on their early morning specials - they open at 7 a.m., and it's a great way to snag a good seat and beat the inevitable lunch rush. Heads-up that their Wi-Fi router is in the room to the right of the front door, so if you're planning to hang out for a while, try to score a spot in that area. Their menu is extensive - and I always make it a point to try something new when I stop in. On my most recent visit, I was able to enjoy a Dirty Chai Latte, and the "Blazin' Balkan" Shakshuka. I love that their coffee drinks use real ingredients - my tea/coffee combo was the perfect mix of spicy-sweet goodness. The Shakshuka was absolutely delicious - it's served with a small bread roll, and packed full of fresh vegetables like tomato and eggplant. I loved the added olives, as well - for texture and salt. I've also tried (and loved) their Rosewater Pistachio Waffle, their Canadian Grilled Cheese, and their Avocado Twist. Gorgeous coffee bar with tons of unique offerings. I tried the Nutella hot chocolate (tall, frothy, and not too sweet) and the lavender orange latte (the recommended choice of my awesome waiter) This coffee is a must try, with super floral notes and not a trace of of bitterness, I've never had anything like it and I will definitely be getting it again. I got the challah with hummus, the south of the border shakshuka and the avocado twist. All were so so excellent but the order again winner was definitely the avocado twist, an excellent version of avocado toast that I could definitely see becoming an addiction. The food was absolutely amazing and had such a great brunch here when I was in town visiting a friend. However, we had a bad experience with one of the employees who was working at the cafe. It was a 30+ minute wait, and he refused to let us order something to drink while we waited. I get that it *might* take away from the tip from the server, or ... hear me out ... I could order two drinks instead of one. To add insult to it, we saw multiple people get sat before us with coffees and pastries in hand. So clearly they were allowed to order while they waited. I love Cafe Alma! It has been such a great addition to Pleasant Ridge. Cafe Alma offers many unique and fun menu items that can fit many dietary needs. I appreciate that everything is very clearly marked on their menu. I recently visited and had the Mediterranean Poke Bowl and not only was it beautiful it was bursting with flavor! Other favorites on the menu are the shakshuka and the hummus and gain bowls. I am gluten free so I have not been able to enjoy their famous, award winning waffles, but know that many patrons say they are amazing! I paired my most recent meal with a cold brew coffee, which was also very tasty. I have tried the seasonal rotating coffee/latte flights in the past and they have been full of unique flavors - basically all of the beverages here are amazing! The space is great, bright and welcoming. It can get loud during peak hours but they have continued to refine what sound dampening items they have across the space to help with the issue. The patio outside is great as well, I think every table has an option for shade which is great. Parking is a little difficult and they have a small lot right next to the restaurant, as well as there is parking across the street. We stopped in recently for lunch and enjoyed the food. The service, not so much. We both ordered the Shmagel's Bagel. I also ordered a side of Roasted Sweet Potatoes. My husband ordered a Kumbucha. The bagel comes deconstructed and with a sliced hard boiled egg. We both thought it tasted great! The roasted sweet potatoes were not very good. They were dried out hard little pieces. They had been overcooked and I would not order them again. The service was definitely lacking. While the owner and the male bartender were very busy - the inattentive servers made for an extra long lunch. I love it so much. I ordered the med dip trio with gluten free bread and veggie sticks. The green tahini was my favorite of the 3, but I loved the hummus with za'atar and the beetroot tahini as well. It was the perfect light breakfast I was looking for. My friend got a bagel and cream cheese and some fresh fruit. The bagels are Montreal-style. We are both big tea drinkers, so we loved the variety of tea lattes. She got an oat milk chai and I got an almond milk golden turmeric latte, which was one of the best I've ever had. I ordered the Sundried Tomato Benedict, because I love a good eggs Benedict. It didn't disappoint. The sun dried tomato bagel was lightly toasted and slightly sweet and topped with some sautéed spinach and mushrooms, eggs over easy and topped off with a couple generous dollops of their homemade Hollandaise sauce. The sauce was one of the best hollandaise sauces I've had. (I. Love. Eggs Benedict.) It's served with a side of their curried apple quinoa salad. The curry played very nicely with the Granny Smith apples. My friend got Nina's Green Goddess, a non-traditional take on shakshuka made with a base of greens, spinach and asparagus instead of the traditional tomato sauce. Cafe Alma is one of my favorite brunch spots in Cincinnati. I brought my friends here for their first time, and it did not disappoint! We got cocktails which were delicious. The Mediterranean sunset was so bright and refreshing. They only had one bartender, so drinks took a while, but they were worth it. Then we got my usuals, the challah French toast and the Israeli tabbouleh with blackened salmon. The French toast comes with 3 pieces and fresh fruit, and is definitely enough to share. It's perfectly sweet and the coconut whipped cream is delicious. The tabbouleh with the blackened salmon is so incredible as always, very fresh with perfectly seasoned salmon. They may ask you how you want your salmon cooked, and I always get mine well done. The 3 of us were full after that so we took the pancakes to go. The only downside to Cafe Alma is that they always seem a bit short staffed. The staff is so kind and helpful with suggestions, but don't come here in a rush. The place has a great menu; not strictly vegetarian but certainly leaning in the direction of whole food, plant-based, that sort of thing. They also have some nice sweet things. However, I gave them the chance to convince me that I could order a kale salad and not be disappointed. And remarkably enough, torn kale with mint vinagrette is good. The avocado in my salad seemed a tad sketch; I don't know whether the dressing made it change color or what. Ordering the salad enabled me to get a nice balanced spread with a side of hummus, which was a small amount of hummus and a lot of very delicious spice. I also got a Sakhlav, which I had never heard of but was an oat milk drink with a nice hint of rose and some nuts, which was fine but I'm not persuaded it's the best drink on the menu. Their brunch items are delightful, I especially have enjoyed their shakshukas. Recently got the Nina's green goddess and it was very flavorful. Also their hummus and beet tahini are yummy! Their challah roll is sooo good, I'll dip it in anything on their menu! Before brunch, my mom and I took a yoga class at cafe alma, offered the last Wednesday of each month by hello sunshine yoga, a yoga studio down the street. It was such a great treat to stretch and then enjoy brunch! I'm so glad I found this place. I love everything about it. The vibes, the food, the drinks - all amazing. Brien was our server and his vibe made a big difference. He provided excellent recommendations and helped us customize a few of the things we ordered. Their hummus is within the top 2 best hummus I've ever had.
