Not my first choice of Korean karaoke bar, but it gets the job done. The bar itself is fairly small on the inside. I think there are two private karaoke rooms? I attended a friend's party and her room could fit about 10 of us on the booth inside. The song list seemed fairly outdated in comparison to Tipsy Pig. I could be wrong though, because I was tipsy by the time I started looking through songs. The TV set up is basic--literally a blue screen to read the words off of. There are no generic music videos to go along with the songs. Inside of the private room there's a phone, I assume to page for service, however it doesn't work. So if you don't want to wait on your server, then you'll have to leave the room and make your orders at the bar. There were a few times I found we were waiting a little longer than expected for orders. It almost seemed like our server forgot to bring our orders because it took so long. Despite the wait, the food was pretty tasty. Fried chicken is crisp, and Kim Chee fried rice is savory. The reason I couldn't give this place a higher review is because the interior is small and slightly dingy in comparison to competing Korean bars. Also, the parking situation is crappy. My best recommendation to avoid the parking dilemma is 1) carpool or 2) Uber/Lyft. Cafe Duck Butt is a Korean karaoke bar tucked in a little alley right off of Ward. First Friday came around and the Byk Haus couples (group of three couples) wanted something a little different than the usual Chinatown action, so around 9pm we all ended up here. Valet parking for free wasn't a bad start, but the guy didn't give us a ticket or anything and just disappeared into the night with the car, leaving us warily walking into the bar hoping he'd remember us. It was pretty hectic inside and they told us it would be about an hour wait. There were only four of us there currently (carpool) and we were waiting for the last couple and another friend so we decided to stay and head to the bar in the meantime. No cocktails on the menu but a decent liquor, beer, and wine selection. We were all waiting to get to the watermelon soju (served in an actual watermelon), so we just ordered a couple of light drinks to tide us over until we got our table. We looked around and saw a karaoke stage and asked if we could start some karaoke, but the guy said it was reserved?? Complete nonsense to me, especially because all they ended up doing was playing hip hop vids all night. So we signed up for a karaoke room, but that wouldn't be available until 11. Sigh. The others arrived and once we sat down and ordered food it was much better! All of the entrees we ordered (kimchee pancake, kalbi tacos, steak sirloin, mochiko chicken, etc.) was super delish and the watermelon and melona soju was ridiculously tasty. The room opened up just as we finished our food, so we all corralled inside. Your typical karaoke room, with a machine you put dollar bills in. Much better than having to pay a fee for the room, in my opinion. They had Korean and English songs, with a pretty decent selection and as another friend joined us, we were having a good ol' time! Then the night was ending and that's where things went really downhill. They charged us a few extra items on our bill. We all had to sit down and figure out together what was going on and grab the waiters to change it. Super sketch. Already had a taste of that at the table before we came into the room, where they were sending us someone else's food and trying to charge someone else's card saying it was one of ours. Should've known we were gonna run into some issues too. Closing thoughts: Food was great, karaoke was fun, but service was super crappy and obviously their POS system is very disorganized. Also, as we were finishing up and they were trying to figure out what they did wrong, we had three more songs left we were trying to sing. They turned on our lights and made us keep the door open (didn't keep me from doing my thang though), and once the finances were worked out, kicked us out with the last couple songs we had paid for still in the system. I just want to hug and kiss the little duckling's behind. Duck Butt lived up to expectations, and probably exceeded it. ROOM RESERVATIONS: they don't charge you for the room reservation (totally awesome--I guess they know if you're making a big reservation, you're going to order quite a bit!) but just call in advance and you can reserve a room for your group. Maximum you can reserve for is 3 hours so be strategic in what 3 hours you want because if there is a group after you, they will kick you out. But to be fair, if the group after you doesn't show up, they have no problems letting you stay. Pretty flexible. The room we had holds somewhere around 12-20 maybe? Depending on how cozy you want to get, maybe more? It was a big U-shaped booth with a big table in the middle and some pull up stools for other folks in the front. TWO karaoke screens so if you're standing on the other side, you can see a screen too. In the room, there's a PHONELINE that goes directly to them so you can just pick up the phone and order. Talk about service. KARAOKE--they didn't have some def leopard and journey songs but I'll forgive them...I didn't think we had to pay for the songs but I wasn't the one controlling so I don't know what the deal was. The book looked like it was all in korean and we were all a little worried but eventually we found the english pages. 2 wired mics in the room and 2 TAMBOURINES! Once you go out in the main room I think it's $2 per song and honestly, no one sang out there once we moved out there. Open mic. Ok, so the food and drink: happy hour specials can't be beat. Menu items for 5, 7 and 9 bucks I think and it includes items like mandoo, fries, onion rings, kim chee fried rice, chive pancakes, kim chee pancakes, sweet potato tempura chips, and my new favorite MOCHIKO CHICKEN. I think I ate a chicken and a half of that stuff. When all you have to do is pick up the phone, you order a lot. It's a win-win for all of us. To be honest, I'd come here just to get dinner! Second to the mochiko chicken was probably the CHIVE PANCAKE. Yes I know, how can a pancake with green stuff in it be that good. Well it is. And it tastes really fresh too. The drinks. I will admit YOGURT SOJU drink sounded nasty in concept but I think I could have sucked down the whole pitcher of it. It was refreshing and tasty. It doesn't taste like you're drinking spiked yoplait yogurt or anything but even the guys loved it. But the consensus was: "this is probably really dangerous". 6 pitchers later, you be the judge. We also tried the LYCHEE SOJU and MELONA SOJU. We were thinking or just ordering one of everything but if you ask, the servers there will tell you which ones are better--so I opted to stick with just a few. To be honest, we got the lychee one more because one of the guys liked it...I think the recommendations were the YOGURT, MELONA, and LATTE. They also have beer (including Hite), wine (and fancy wine glasses) and other mixed drinks if your heart desires. VALUE: I put the room on a tab so when the final bill came I was worried I'd fall over, but it was incredibly reasonable. My tab was about a foot long in paper though... PARKING: They supposedly have free valet parking on Fri/Sat (gratuity not included) but I didn't see it. But it must be there. Street parking is available--if you can find it. The streets looked uber crowded, so I don't know if you want to spend all your time frustrated looking for parking. I walked from Blaisdell from another event, I hear some park at the Victoria Ward lots--sorry I don't know what's actually kosher but just be warned, it's a tough neighborhood for street parking on a weekend. Perhaps it's worth checking out the Valet. Parting thoughts: --Happy Hour runs 5-8pm and the clock is pretty strict, so don't miss out --It's so easy to reserve a room so if you're going with a group, why not call them in advance. The outside booths and bar area seemed a little more chaotic and I can't speak for how service is there. It's not a huge space so it feels pretty crowded outside. --The women's bathroom is a 1-person at a time, so if you gotta go, plan ahead. The men's looked like it had urinals so may offer more flexibility. Still yet, it looked small. The sign also said no tissue in toilet--not sure what that means for their sewer system, but I'll let that one go for now... --Don't be scared off by the thought of yogurt soju. --We had a tall Australian and tall Irish dude...they kind of stuck out like sore thumbs, but I think all was cool. --At 6:30pm on a Friday it wasn't too crowded. By probably around 8pm the place was packed. Closes at 2 but I didn't survive to close the place down. But it was still happening a few hours later. --Tip them well--they work hard, try hard, are incredibly accommodating, and make it a fun night! I hate to do this and rate them two stars, especially since I enjoyed this place before. We came in ten minutes prior to happy hour ending. I ordered some food, and a strawberry soju. The girl came back with plain ol' soju, so I told her I wanted the cocktail...no biggie. Our food came, and then she brought out edamame, I informed her I didn't order that and she took it away. So the night went on, and then I go to close my husbands tab because I wanted to wait in the car. ONE- -the edamame and plain soju is on my tab, TWO--my strawberry soju is not at happy hour price, and THREE they try to get my husband to pay for the tab AGAIN!!! Not cool to try take advantage of a drunk guy! TIP for Cafe Duck Butt- Prior to opening tabs, you should start taking ID's or a card. By doing so, you won't get peoples tabs mixed, people can just say put it on "name" tab, and that can save a whole lot of confusion. Friend: We are going to Duck Butt Me: What the hell is that??? It turns out to be a pretty chill bar/restaurant. I don't like to go out much because I prefer drinking wine and watching Family Guy but this was a nice experience. The place is pretty small and it gets crowded if you go on the weekend. The people that come here are there for a chill time. There is a Karaoke Bar and the food is EXCELLENT. If you're looking for a place to drink and have good eats Duck Butt will satisfy that desire. I ordered the Chopped Sirloin Steak and it was AMAZEBALLS. It comes with whole pieces of grilled garlic and chopped onions. The food went down nice with a 1.6 Liter container of Hite Beer. The Steak was $18 dollars and the beer was $12 dollars. I assume that Hite beer is a Korean Brand of beer but it was worth the $12 dollars. The 1.6 Liter bottle equates to about 5-6 cans of beer (tastes like Miller Lite) so the price is very decent and they actually sold out of it around midnight so order it fast! Get there early because as I've stated the place is SMALL. The service is Blah. But it's more of a bar really than a restaurant so you shouldn't expect great service from the waiters/waitresses. read more

First ... Watermelon Soju. OMG!!! .. seriously .. it was so amazing. Then someone got peach soju which reminded me of high school (so eh .. been there, done that). OH .. you haven't? Well, I grew up in Korea. So I did it. A lot. Second ... Kimchi pancakes. I never ever ever thought in all my wildest dreams that someone could make a kimchi pancake just as good or .. dare I say .. better than my moms. They have it. I just love this place. It is basically a Korean karaoke bar but they also serve some good food and have the best Soju I ever had. The Korean tacos are very good. They have a plate of three tacos for $12. They offer three types of meat. They also have quesadilla that is very good and comes with kimchee and kalbi. If you order the Soju, it comes in a large jug which is good for sharing. If you arrived solo, well, plan to get pretty tipsy if you try to finish one. Hmmmm, duck butt.... "Meh. I've experienced better" sums it up. I do like how it's $1 per song, esp since we were also eating and not singing nonstop, but the English selection wasn't that great. There were so many "classics" omitted! How do you not have Journey and other 80's classics? If you sing Korean, on the other hand, you're all good, I'm guessing. The food was... meh. Nothing memorable. I do remember one of the dishes having ramen noodles in it--by ramen noodles, I mean the Top-Ramen-comes-in-a-rectangle-and-need-to-boil-it kind. And the yogurt soju was yummy, but omg, like $23 for a carafe??? GEEZ. Service wasn't bad as other yelpers have experienced, but I did feel a little awkward when we arrived. Duck Butt has changed my life. I usually never drink when I'm back home because of my laziness and affinity with my neighbourhood mainland bars. I came here one day with my school friends, and I am hooked on their combo of divy/hipster/Korean/KTV overall awesomeness. It honestly reminded me of a couple bars in Flushing, NY, and it made me feel super comfortable. For their food/drink... two words: melona soju. Well actually only one word really maters: soju. It's hard to go wrong with soju, but their flavoured ones are amazing. Try them all, I dare you. Or actually double dare you. For their service, I actually kinda love how you need to flag down a server only when you need them. Our server was always very attentive/quick if I needed him, and he left us alone when we were good, which is the way I think it should be. Can't wait to go back. Yay! I'm a fan. read more

I agree with Aron C. about the poor service if you're not Korean or have at least 1 Korean person in your party. Basically, this is an expensive place to grab some Korean drinks and snacks.   Parking can be difficult. We parked next to the nearby theater since parking was free and ample there (meters ended at 6PM). Parking seemed impossible right next to the cafe and maybe a little sketchy with an endless amount of tow-away signs and no street lamps. There is valet, but who ever really wants to throw money away for that?   When we first got in, most of the tables were taken except for a few so we snagged one. People started pile in after us and had to wait--lucky us. This must mean this joint is good. It's also called Cafe Duck Butt. Is this title to attract all the duck butt lovers? The main reason I am giving a low rating is the following: Happy hour is clearly stated as being from 5PM to 8PM. We arrived at 7:30PM. That seems like enough time to make an order then another one a few minute later, right? After we ordered a couple items, the waitress said okay and walked away to put in the order--we weren't even done ordering yet. Then some dude came and took away the happy hour menu at 7:45PM. The way he did seemed a little bit rude. The waitress then told him that we can still order from the happy hour menu but then they starting arguing in Korean about it so it got a little awkward. If they're going to take away the happy hour menu before the stated time of 8:00PM, that is false advertising and they should just make the happy hour 5:00PM - 7:45PM. They also shouldn't be all stingy about it (or don't make it obvious to the paying customers). And even with the happy hour prices, everything still seemed very expensive as if you save nothing.   For 4 people, we ordered these items: 1) Kim Chee Fried Rice 2) Green Onion Pancake 3) Kim Chee Pancake 4) Deep Fried Chicken 5) Yogurt Soju 6) Bottle of Hite (even though it said it was a pitcher on the menu)   As far as the food, it was decent--nothing amazing and worth a visit while in Hawaii. More annoyingly, this was definitely not enough for 4 people. Usually at Korean restaurant/bars like this, you get a ton of food for a good price. Here, little food for lots of money--whack. The yogurt soju was good, but also not something you must do Hawaii.   With all this said, I do not recommend coming here. Don't be tricked by the cool name. If you insist on a visit, come right when the happy hour starts so you're not a victim of money-hungry Asian stinginess.   I didn't get in one of the karaoke rooms but I imagine if you sit in one for a hour you're going to pay like $40 for a $10 rental. read more

Food is really good. They don't serve all night so beware. But as a Karaoke place the song selection is subpar and hard to read. I can't read Korean, hell I even thought to use Google Translate on my Nexus 4 to decipher this but AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR DAT! In the rooms you can telephone for service (how convenient) but boy are they busy at peak times. So know what you want and order in bulk because your server will be awhile. Seriously, they really need to refresh the songs selections or make it more coherent. Went here for their happy hour for my friend's bday. I enjoyed most of their food. The pork belly was tasty, tender and very flavorful. We also had the green onion pancake which was my favorite. I didn't it was going to be that good but when I had it I became addicted to it! Definitely must have. The kimchee fried rice was so so for me. We also ordered the famous watermelon soju, however, I must say that I was quite disappointed with it. It was a little bitter and watery in my opinion. And the service was ok for me. Good luck finding parking here. If you're lucky, you'll find street parking that is legit and you won't have to worry about your car getting towed. Otherwise, they do offer free valet service. Well, probably on weekends or rush hours, since I was there on a Monday night and they didn't have valet service. There is metered parking on Ward Avenue if you're lucky and a pro at parallel parking. This place is literally a hole in the wall. It is off on a side street of Ward. It's a dark street near warehouses. But once you step inside, you've been sent off into the world of K-POP, if you're into that sort of thing. They've got Korean music blasting in the background. Karaoke rooms where you pay per song, and a fully equipped bar with all kinds of soju. I've tried the watermelon soju: good, not great. What is great, though, is their food. The menu is extensive and there are tons of photos on Yelp for your to peruse. I will tell you that everything I have tried has been savory and quite spicy. This is fair warning! Whoever is in the kitchen - kudos to you! Even if you aren't quite a fan of K-POP and bars, swing by for the food. On another note, the service wasn't all that stellar. It took forever to flag down somebody for water, drinks, etc. The manager didn't look like he wanted to be there. Or at least he didn't look like he wanted to help us. Although he did look quite friendly with some of his other patrons - probably friends or regulars. Our server was all over the place. I don't blame her since it did get pretty packed afterwards. The first time that I went here I didn't like it. A few months passed and when I went inside it looked nice and bright compared to the grungy dim look. I've recently moved to Kaka'ako and just discovered I can walk here from my apartment, so I was excited when my friends suggested happy hour here. Arrived promptly at 5pm when they open and I was glad we did because this place filled up very quickly and it was only a Wednesday! We ordered the usually suspects: mandoo, cheesy fries, fried chicken, kimchee pancake, and I wanted to try their new chicken and kimchee quesadilla. I also got to try their yuzu flavored Sochu and their new taro flavor. Loved their cheesy fries, kimchee pancake, and mandoo... But they've changed their mandoo from what seemed to be homemade to the frozen kind you buy from Costco. The fried chicken was also good except it's weird that they give you hacked up parts of what seem like a small chicken (we joked it was pigeon because of the size). Sadly we never got the quesadilla because I'm guessing our server forgot, but we were full so I didn't bother following up. The one thing that I constantly don't like (so I should probably move on and order something else) is the Sochu drinks always taste so sweet that it has me wondering if they fill up most of the pitchers with soda or something. As far as soju we always order the lilikoi and a few others I can't think of. I would definitely recommend the soju!! A must try!! Parking is difficult. If you don't arrive early you'll have to try finding street parking. Duck Butt does have free valet parking, but their lot is small. Also MAKE A RESERVATION! It is popular for happy hour and just meeting with your friends after work, and the seats fill up quickly. For larger groups I'd also definitely make a reservation. read more

HAH. This place is ridiculous. First of all, parking is terrible and valet looked sketchy as hell. We finally found parking way down the street after circling the block a few times. We arrived and there was only one party ahead of us and they got seated right when we walked in. No big deal, that's how it's supposed to go. We waited by the entrance for about 5 minutes and the waiters completely ignored us. Okay fine, it's a busy night. 2 more parties come after us and the place is starting to clear up as people leave. At this point there are 3 open tables. The waiter finally comes over and ignores us completely, going straight to the parties that came in after us and writing their name down on the waitlist. What the hell? The party after us tells the guy that we came in first and he's just like "oh" not even a "sorry" or a "my bad"! Few more minutes go by and they finally clean up the tables. They proceed to seat the TWO groups that came in after us at the 4 people tables and we're like okay...? It's fine because there is another table open. The guy comes over again and tells us to sit at the VERY crowded bar where there is absolutely no space for us to eat. We tell him that we've been waiting and they seated two parties before us and that we want the open table in the corner. The manager(?) gives us a giant X with his arms and tells us that it's reserved. What the hell? They skipped us TWICE and then tells us that we cant sit at a table and eat comfortably. We left extremely pissed and will probably not be coming back again. You can be sure that our friends will not be coming anytime soon either. If you're looking for a Korean bar that is actually worth your time and money and won't blow you off like this place, go to ThankQ Pocha instead. Everything here tastes good and they have karaoke--how can you go wrong?!

Our friends were in town from Maui so we decided to give it a try. When we walked in there was only 2 tables that were occupied. We sat down. Took a while for someone to come to the table and it was SLOW. When she finally did come my boyfriend ordered a miller lite, me a water and asked how the edamame was made because we had my daughter and didn't want to give her kim chee style edamame. After a minute of her not understanding, I had to come out and say it. After leaving she didn't come back for a couple of minutes. I might add again that the place was empty. She came back with his beer but not my water. My boyfriend had to ask for my water. Our friends arrived and by then the place was filled. We had to flag down the server who was taking care of the whole restaurant while the girl that helped us was behind the bar flirting. We ordered the house chicken which was so ono. Nice and crispy yet juicy on the inside. We also ordered the mochiko chicken..not your typical mochiko chicken. But it was also delish. We also ordered mandoo...total fail. It was frozen bought mandoo the kind that you can find in the freezer section of the supermarket. I think what drives people to this place is the happy hour which is from 5-8. Most of the people there were there for the Soju drinks. Our table had to flag down the staff for drinks. I was upset and needed to leave. If you don't mind waiting and waiting for your drinks or for someone to come around and take your order this is the place for you. I will definitely not be going back there again. read more

It was my first time and I was excited. When your friend has the place programed into their contacts, you automatically think, "Hey! This place must be awesome!" I made reservations for 8 on a Saturday night. A couple of days before, I get a confirmation call which I appreciated. Our reservation time was for 8pm-11pm. When we arrived the valet were only taking you if you made a reservation for the night. It being a Saturday night, it was packed. As I walked into the place to check in, there really wasn't anywhere to check in. There were only 2 workers on the floor & they were busy. I was finally able to flag down the male worker to let him know that we had a reservation at 8. The worker looked a bit flabbergasted (I assume because it was busy & he didn't realize that it was almost 8) & told me to wait a few minutes while he got our room ready. While I waited, more people walk in. Because the place was packed, they got turned away. There was a big group that were exiting & after a few more minutes we were finally able to aquire the room around 8:15. Food was order & was tasty. We asked the female worker how to use the karaoke machine, which she didn't know how. She did get instructions & explained when she returned to the room. What she failed to explain was that if you cancel a song you lose your $1.00 regardless if the number you input is correct but the song is incorrect. We're having a good time & everything is great up until about 20 mins till 11pm. The male worker comes in & tells us that we need to leave. I ask why. To which his reply is they need us to vacate so they can clean the room for the next group. I'm a bit offended & upset. I tell him that our reservation is 8 to 11 & that they originally made us wait 15 minutes to get the room. Now you want us to vacate early so you can clean the room for the next group?! And again his answer, "but we need to clean up for the next group." We could've sang 5 more songs from all the missed time! Ask me if I wasn't annoyed. So, if you want to tasty food, liked to be looked over, or seated late & told to leave early, along with getting ripped off by the karaoke machine...Café Duck Butt is for you! I came to Cafe Duck Butt a long time ago to meet some friends who were doing karaoke in one of the rooms but I barely got to try anything. This time around I met a group of girlfriends for an after work pau hana catch up. My coworker and I arrived early at 5:30 and thank god we did - this place books real fast! Almost every table was either full or had a reserved sign on it. GULP! Luckily there was one nook in the corner left perfect for a giant group of ladies to squish together & let the alcohol do its job. We started with a watermelon soju which is a must try from Cafe Duck Butt although WARNING: at $30 a watermelon, it's quite pricy. A whole bottle of soju gets combined with the juice from the watermelon half & topped off with ice. Delicious and can be deadly - tastes like juice but full of liquor! I recommend ordering this when you have a few people to share as the ice melts fast. My friend and I shared it between just the 2 of us and soon found our buzz melting as well as we tried to finish. We wound up ordering a beer tower & fried chicken, fries, spicy pork belly and kimchee pancake all from the happy hour menu [regular prices are higher but I did find a lot of yummy food on the reg menu I didn't see on happy hour]. Crispy crinkle cut fries are always a good choice when drinking. I loved the spice on the pork belly but kept getting some bites that I couldn't chew at all. The fried chicken was different than then expected but has a great exterior crunch. The kimchee pancake was my fave and I wish I could have thrown the spicy sauce from the pork on top of it. It was GINORMOUS and cooked perfectly with a shoyu type sauce. I don't know why I haven't had more kim chee pancakes but geese, what a delicious bite to have while drinking. Somewhere along the way we ordered a few more flavors of soju... and I think forgot we all had work the next day... Haha, cafe duck butt pulls you in! We couldn't split the check but they did let us use various cards; as long as you keep track, you sort of split it yourself. My portion was pretty low for the amount of stuff I got to try, happy hour is the winning time to come here! NOTE: Parking is going to make you want to stay yourself in the eye. It's probably why we don't come often but they do offer free valet [tips only] if you can catch the guy. Otherwise it is mostly street parking and you might need to walk over. Truth be told? Great hole in the wall karaoke joint!!! Ono grinds and superb service at affordable prices. Yes please, can I have another? Recipe for a great party: Get into one of the private rooms (which are clean and free). Feed your money into the karaoke machine. Drink plenty Hite (huge Korean beers to share). Use the wall phone to order more food and libations and - Voila! An instant occasion to showcase the under appreciated vocal prowess of your peers! Our party of 15 had MORE than enough to drink and eat, sang songs for 2 hours and got outta there for under $300. Now that's a deal that can't be beat! Best grinds: da poke (fresh chili peppers make this really spicy!), spicy mochi stir fry (yummy yummy), and chive pancakes (savory comfort food). I can't wait to go back. UPDATE! Yelp 100 Review Challenge 2015: 11/100 This review is solely on my Happy Hour experience. Parking (My biggest issue): I've come here several times and lucked out on parking, usually parking right across the entrance of Cafe Duck Butt...this time I wasn't so lucky. I had to park all the way down the street and feed the meter until 6pm (after that its free) since all the garages surrounding Cafe Duck Butt are covered in "Tow Away" and "Private Property" signs...(can you even own a street!?). Then I walked through the poorly kept asphalt road (in heels!) to Cafe Duck Butt. The parking absolutely sucks and that is why I have only been here a few times. Atmosphere: It is a small dimly lit bar that plays a mixture of Korean and American hits. There's a karaoke machine up front in the main eating area and several very small karaoke rooms on the side. The girl's restroom is only one stall, which means ladies should expect to wait in line, but it is very clean! Especially for a bar! Food & Drinks: The HH menu has a GREAT selection of Soju Cocktails for only 13$ (REGULAR 20$) from 5-8pm Everyday! Our group of 8 had to make table reservations the night before and luckily we did, because on a Thursday night this place was crowded by 6:30pm. We order the Mocha, Yogurt, Watermelon (not HH), Melona soju cocktail and several rounds of Hite along with Mandoo, Kim Chee Fried Rice, Seafood Pancake, Deep Fried Chicken and Kim Chee Pancake. The drinks were amazing- though the Watermelon Soju was smaller than I remembered from my previous experiences but the workers promised that they therefore added more alcohol?!! The food on the other hand left my stomach uncomfortable, this is some serious "bar food", all the items were heavily greasy! Service: The service was good, it's always hit or miss. We were able to talk story, eat and easily flag a waiter if we needed anything. Most things (with the exception of some of the food) was delivered immediately! So I felt a 20% tip was necessary. So besides the cramped parking space, and having one bathroom for women, that all becomes irrelevant when you're ordering bottles (especially during happy hour with some of the soju being $13 instead of the regular $20) of YOGURT Soju, APPLE Soju, MELONA Soju and WATERMELON Soju. I'd have to say my favorite either is between the classic Yogurt Soju, Melona Soju or Apple Soju. Besides the drinks though, I'm always about the eats! Kimchi Pajeun/Pancakes (sorry for horribly butchering the Korean language) which was delicious chewy meal pancakes (not to be associated with the American breakfast pancake). Paired with the dipping sauce, it is easily one of my favorites. Fried Chicken... Not your typical run of the mill KFC/Popeyes fried chicken. Of course, it has an Asian twist to it. Daikon on the side, along with salt and seasonings to pull an Emeril Lagasse on it (BAM!) The batter that the chicken is rolled in is pretty thin, not really "batter-y" and the chicken is really tender. SOOO good! Mochiko Chicken was pretty darn good too. ALSO! The rooms you can reserve is really cute! There's a little telephone to order things, and there's a karaoke machine that lets you pay as you go, with $1 a song, which is not too bad. With the name alone, I had to check it out thinking it was a complete dive bar. The location says yes, as well as free valet parking with a dude just chilling on fold up chair and upon handing over my car says "no ticket, just tell me you have the Honda Fit". But really come to hang out with your friends, and enjoy the karoake rooms and food. My wife and I came for the food and the watermelon soju after seeing pictures. That night it was not included on the happy hour menu (holy crap it's until 8 pm!), so it was a hefty $30. But this thing is half a hollowed out watermelon filled with the pureed melon and soju with a punch bowl ladle. It wasn't classy looking and yet it was all at once lol. But the happy hour menu is quite extensive. We chose the fried chicken which was HOTTTT, crispy and more like a game hen in size not a whole chicken. We also had 1 of each of the tacos, and our bartender Christine said her favorite was the spicy chicken, and we agreed with her. It just had a lot of flavor which you don't think much of when it comes to chicken. But back to Christine, who was really cool, she chatted us up a bit since we looked like locals (we got a lot of that in Hawaii actually), and was shocked seeing my wife's age when she carded her. She was really cool giving us a small shot to help us celebrate our honeymoon, she had the something kitty and I had the (of course) duck fart. We peered into the karoake rooms that were all filled and they looked really nice, not run-down or cramped. But from what a lot of folks said, it's mostly Korean music. Get your reservation in, they were all booked and first come first served. The other soju flavors seemed like a hit, because Christine and the rest of the staff were cranking out the carafes like crazy, as well as the rest of the happy hour food. Definitely come here for happy hour or you will leave with an empty wallet. Happy hour food ranges from $5-$12. From poke to fried chicken. A bottle of regular soju is $8 A "pitcher" of Hite is $8 Rice wine about $12 and certain flavored soju is $13. $2 karaoke songs. Too much flavor not enough alcohol for those prices. The food was decent, not the best, not the worst. The service, a little lack luster. Gotta yell like a korean to get any service. And even at that they don't seem happy to help. One girl just said "what do you want?" Parking fills up fast, but street parking isn't that hard to find. If it weren't for good company and the horrible karaoke singers as great entertainment I wouldn't have stayed as long as I did. If I were craving soju enough I would consider coming to this place again. read more

**clean Korean bar** Don't be fooled by the hole in the wall warehouse appearance of this place. It was surprisingly clean and neatly furnished inside. Parking: After several failed attempts to find street parking we parked at sports authority only to discover that we could've parked at a lot behind the bar. Karaoke: The room is FREE! We were entering numbers with their giant remote labelled in Korean, but none of our songs registered. So we asked the guy how does it work and he said "you put money in machine first". LOL. You basically feed money into the machine for the songs and they'll put the drinks and food on a tab. They have a large selection of Korean songs with a small section of English. The English songs are a bit instrumentally "different" with Korean music videos. Oh and yes, they've got the tamborines! Food: Typical Korean bar food. About more than half the menu consisted of deep fried items all priced around $10 or more. We ordered fries and mandoo (each came in a small basket) which were $10 each. We also got seafood pancakes (Korean pancakes the size of a small pizza) which was $15. Gotta have the yogurt soju - $20 per bottle. The food is relatively pricey compared to other bars. I have this awesome story to tell from my time here at Duck Butt! So, I went out drinking with my co-workers after a long night at the restaurant. We got out at around 12ish so the selection of venues to get sloshed at was very limited. We decided to come here and get our drank on. We ordered: -Melona Soju -Yogurt Soju -Lemon Soju -Assorted beers and other drinks So, we drank and we drank and we drank....after we finished our last pitcher of soju, we paid out our tab which was something like $80? We went outside to let the bar close up and then decided to continue our drinking? I honestly can't remember the rest of the night...but what I do remember is that the drinks and the service at Duck Butt was amazing! We went here for my birthday to sing karaoke, eat some ono Korean food and get their yummy Soju. I loved the food, especially the sweet potato and the Kimchee pancake broke da mouth! And you can't beat $1 for karaoke. The only thing is that they need more songs in English! Parking is validated and I'm not a fan of that. I like to park my own car. After longing to come here because they didn't let under 21's in, I finally made it! I always hear about this place and developed pretty high expectations. That may be why I'm giving this a three. However, the three is really based on service. The food is good. Go during happy hour from 5 - 8 PM. However, even during happy hour, it is extremely expensive. I do recommend a couple of must haves: Mandoo ($5): It's deep-fried and the skin is crunchy, However, there is a good balance of meat and veggies inside. There is actually some soupy presence from the meat and it's just overall juicy. Deep Fried Chicken($9): This is extremely delicious. Probably one of the best fried chicken I've ever had. The batter is thin and crispy and the meat inside is tender and juicy and flavorful. It was amazing. This is a must try. Don't share it either! Just order one for yourself. Melon Yogurt Soju ($13): This tastes just like a melona so for those of you who don't like the taste of alcohol, this one's a good choice and goes down smooth. The reason why I am giving it a three is because of the service. Food for one was coming out really slow. We were ordering two dishes at a time and it took 15 minutes for two dishes to arrive. Also, no one came to check in on us. I guess that's just the way they run the business. Overall, it was too expensive for what we were getting. Me: "got plans tonight?" Friend: "yeah going to Cafe Duck Butt for pupus and karaoke." Me: "cafe what?!" Friend: "trust me. Let's go!" Don't ask me why this place is called what it is, but it surely got my attention and many would visit it just for that very reason. However, I have other reasons to make more trips to this hole in the wall place, hidden in the back alleys of some shady looking urine-smelling area. I suggest paying the homeless a tip to watch your car for the night or to make sure he doesn't pee next to your car! I tried their tofu and fries topped with magical garlic chips. I've had garlic fries before, but this was especially yummy! I'll come back to try the pitcher of yogurt shochu and the korean tacos. Their pupus are a bit pricier than other places but it was tasty. This establishment has limited seating but has friendly staff. It can get packed quickly! As for the karaoke: they have private rooms to allow people to sing at the comfort of knowing only their truest friends are listening. But for the daredevil, they can try prying the mic from any of the well tuned older Korean ladies singing songs not familiar to me. read more

We venture to the side street where Duck Butt was. There is a giant light signage with what looks like a happy Donald Duck saluting us. We could not find where to park. (I guess it was behind the building?) So we just parked on the street next to Sports Authority. There are a bunch of booth style seating. We grab a table in the middle of the joint. A quick scan and you will see a bar and LCD TVs mount on the walls all around. It's always Korean pop channel here. Ha ha. ("Gee gee gee baby, baby, baby." I actually heard this song and a Korean Abba rendition while we were here.) We ordered: kalbi, seafood pancake, spicy fried mochi with ramen, kimchee quesadilla and topped it off with melon and yogurt soju. I have never had spicy fried mochi (rabokki) but it was off the hook! I had to get the recipe and it's simple to make: kochujang, brown sugar, instant ramen, fish cake, rice cake, water, cabbage, onion and scallions. Damn, I am so making this soon (tm)! The kimchee quesadilla was damn tasty too for $6. It has kimchee, jack, cheddar cheese, and bacon! What doesn't bacon make better? Right? Right! We killed everything. Then went into karaoke room to do our thing. Someone turn down the lights, we got Asian glow. We polish off the second bottle of soju. Definitely get the yogurt soju; it is so good. Here is something I must interject: the song book didn't have recent songs. Which I am OK with. But it listed songs that the machine said were not valid choices. That I was not OK with. So we sang, drank, and I ordered another kimchee quesadilla. It was that good ,maybe it was my love for melty cheese, or the Asian glow. I am not sure. But tasty it definitely was. The customer service is excellent. They were very friendly. Most dishes are between $12-16. Karaoke songs are $1/per. They do have English and Korean songs. They have a happy hour special till 8p. When I first heard of a place with such a delicate sounding and intricate name as Café Duck Butt, for some reason, I was instantly reminded of the cartoon Duck Tales, but because of its location and knowing that things in Hawaii and always exactly as they seem, I somehow slipped into a perverted vision of the late 1980's cartoon that somehow involved strippers, c-sections, pagers and weaves. Fortunately, I was completely wrong with my prediction on what Café Duck Butt was. And although Huey, Dewey and Louie were in no way related to this karaoke bar, I still managed to have a relatively entertaining good time with fellow elite Tim P. In short, we came in to have a blast of a good time, enough to actually have our own "Tale" if you will, but it was a slow night. It was kind of sad also. They had just finished celebrating someone's big 3-5 and the decorations were still flashy. Either that or they haven't cleaned up in a bit. Originally, Tim and I were set to grub down, but when we got there we decided that drinking was the better option, considering it was still happy hour. Shochu was a deal during happy hour. A carafe, enough for two to split and talk about life, careers and the psychology of art - costs about 8 dollars. The downside was that (I didn't know) adding a flavor apparently cost an additional 5 bucks. In the end though, if Tim and I went to a bar, two drinks would have been just as expensive, and that carafe, even though they give you shot glasses to drink from, is only about 2 "good" sized drinks any way. I didn't sing, nor Tim, so I can not judge the rooms, and we didn't end up eating. Instead we sat talked and made fun of the Korean music videos and tried to figure out which Marky Mark video they were "inspired" by (as if there are many to choose from). Overall, I'm sure this won't be the last time visiting the hallowed halls of Scrooge McDuck. Although the service is about as harrowing and sluggish as it can get (because the servers are too busy eating at the bar with their friends - don't bother them!), everyone I know seems to bring up this place as a functionally equivalent alternate to far more entertaining establishment. I am sure that I will be back at some point. Will I enjoy it? Eh. Not unless I run into Darkwing Duck belting out Telephone by Lady GaGa. I live up the street so this is my regular watering hole. I have to admit, it took me a while to get the guts to enter here as I always thought it was a "K-bar." Let's just say that mustering up the courage to come here was one my best decisions EVER. When you enter, you're bombarded with the sights and sounds of Kpop videos playing on the TV screens. There are several booth style seatings, a bar and several private rooms. I recommend going at Happy hour since prices are slashed to almost half. For me, the biggest draw of Duck Butt is the Soju cocktails! Delicious fruit flavored Korean vodka...ranging from WATERMELON (in an actual watermelon!), mango, yogurt, melona, strawberry, latte. These little suckers are so refreshing and it doesn't take much to get you buzzin'! While your sippin on your soju cocktails (or Hite beer if you prefer), you get free popcorn or you can order some of the slammin' food they offer. The pancakes (seafood, kimchee, chive) are all winners. The spicy pork is drool-worthy. The fried mochi is heavenly...especially if you add ramen and cheese. I am salivating just at the thought of it. Their eggpot dish is also good--just be careful since the pot is sizzlin hot. To top it all off...there is Karaoke! Whether you want to belt out in front of everyone on the main stage (with bongo drums to boot!) or do it in private in one of the rooms (which is free, btw)...Duck butt has it all. read more

One of my favorite bars. Love the k-pop atmosphere. Usuals here with friends: melona and watermelon soju, fried rice and mochiko chicken! I felt like the watermelon soju was my rite of passage when turning 21 lol. Parking's not so great though (we've always had to find street parking of somewhere a little far) and the place can get kind of packed, but I dont mind. Service is great and employees are really friendly. Don't know if that's because my friends know the owners and employees, but this place puts me in a happy place :) read more
