This review is for 3.5 stars. Service was slooooow. Took us 5 minutes to get seated when literally 4 tables were taken. 3 people behind the bar area saw us and didn't care to find us a table. Getting orders and check took a while as well which sucks when you're in a rush. As far as food, prices were very good. Most meals averaged at $10 and coffees seemed reasonable under $4. Biscuits were great and a must order. My 3 egg omelette was fine, especially for $8, but fell apart and had noticeably undercooked peppers and onions. For a quick meal it would be acceptable but for a sit down breakfast, I need a bit more. My apple cider was very good and a nice addition to the menu I rarely see. In all, fine place to grab a coffee and get some work done with free WiFi, but not a must venture for the food unless it's for the biscuits. read more

Wish I could have rated this higher because the breakfast was good. However, the service was incredibly slow and inattentive. Once our drink orders were placed, we never saw the server again until she gave us the check. No refills and no check ins. The French toast was good but not incredible. We are here visiting from Ohio. We were told by locals to go Café Eclectic. I highly suggest this local place to eat and enjoy some good food. The cafe has roadway parking that is free along with a parking lot across the street. I had the Sunny Tater Hash without jalapeños; so good!! Not worth the wait! We went on a Saturday late morning. It was busy, but not line-out-the-door busy. Total time was over two hours for average food. We were told 20-30 min for a table. It was an hour. Once our order was placed it was another 30 min wait for the food. Not sure who else the kitchen was cooking for but they seemed to have a full staff. Our waitress was ok, but couldn't hear anything she was saying through her mask. If the food was decent, would've been worth the wait, but my biscuits were dry and nothing else was anything special. I can't believe I forgot to take a photo of my food!! I take more pictures of food than anything else. I think I was famished and was more worried about eating. If you like hot and spicy, you'll love the Diablo Wrap!! It would've been better if they remembered the cream cheese but I put a little ranch on it and it was still good. Omg today I got just what I needed!!!! I went for breakfast to treat myself to something out of my norm and boy when I tell you I got what I needed X's 3!!! I already knew the food was good here but it's been awhile since I've been so I guess I had to be reminded lol. At first I was going to just get a waffle and omelette until I saw so many reviews on the stuffed French toast! I immediately changed my order and when they brought it out I knew I made the right choice. It literally melted in my mouth! I am over here sitting on the couch thinking about my next visit . Had an absolutely terrible experience with a server, Nell. She gave me a nasty attitude, I overheard her constantly complaining about her baby daddy, it took me 30 minutes for her to check on me and my husband's table WHILE THE BUSINESS WAS SLOW, and I'm nearly positive she spit in my food. What a great place! I have never been disappointed by an order here. I love the black bean burger and burrito and all of the breakfast options. It is also a great place to grab a coffee or tea- their London Fog is amazing. Also- Cafe Eclectic has some cool performers come through every once in a while that can add to your dining experience. I came to Memphis for a conference and found this on a list of good brunch places near downtown. We got here around 1PM and were seated almost immediately. The service was prompt and our waitress was very nice. I ordered the burger with the vegetables of the day. When I asked my waitress what those vegetables were, she said, "Umm, a zucchini and squash mix." In reality, my plate was filled with zucchini, squash, carrots, and MUSHROOMS. I HATE MUSHROOMS. I didn't make a big deal out of it and just scooped them off my plate. When she saw me doing this, she didn't think twice to comment about it and I was so hungry I just wanted to eat. I asked for some barbecue sauce, that they make in house, but couldn't get any because they have ONE GUY who makes it and he was out. The food came extremely fast but was cooked really well. They do take a while to bring out your food, but it sure is delicious. They also get really busy so I suggest making a reservation. I used to spend a lot of time here because my daughter lived in the area. The only reason I go less these days is because she doesn't live in Memphis any more. However, I had a business appointment in the midtown area, so this place was a natural. The food is really good. Whenever we're in town, my husband and I stop here EVERY morning for coffee. They use illy beans--the absolute best you can get, in my opinion (I recommend the ice mocha and Cubano). It's more of a restaurant than a coffee shop, so the atmosphere has a lot more hustle-and-bustle than a quiet cafe. But that shouldn't detract you from stopping by. Staff is efficient, friendly, and attentive; menu is expansive and delicious; outside patio is perfect on a sunny day. Parking can be limited, but is never impossible to find. I honestly don't know why I didn't come to this place more often while I was living a mile away. I love Eclectic...between this location and Harbortown, I live off of Stuffed French Toast and Black Bean Wraps. Tis the stuff of legends! I remember coming here years ago for the first time and thinking that it was just weird...how I didn't fit in with the crowd of relaxing adults who seemed to be both productive and friendly. Coming back years later has shown me that these people know a good place when they see it. The staff here are friendly and willing to make suggestions if you don't do well with decisions (me). While my accompanying visitors only got breakfast biscuits, I'd been told by a coworker that I needed to get the stuffed french toast. And stuff I did, right into my mouth. It was amazing and I don't know how I missed out on this breakfast of champions all these years. One of my favorite things about local restaurants is that local generally supports local, and Cafe Eclectic is no exception. Not only do they support local arts and businesses, but they feature music, books, and attire from locals as well. PLUS, they know how to make you feel as if you are just hanging out in a friend's dining room shooting the breeze instead of feeling like you're sitting at a run of the mill restaurant. I had to come back and give Cafe Eclectic a big, fat, five stars for my buckwheat pancakes and Creme Brulatte. First off, the Creme Brulatte. This drink should be illegal. It is so delicious, I don't event know where to start. The key to any flavored latte coffee beverage is the coffee. It needs to be strong. I want to taste the coffee underneath all the milk, cream, whatever they mix inside for that particular drink. As fate would have it, Cafe Eclectic's carries Illy which happens to work perfectly in these drinks. The drink was like hot, buttery, silk running down my throat. I can still taste it. If this place had a drive thru I would be here in my pajamas every. single. morning. Now, onto the pancakes. I read about them and I heard all the hype. I knew I had to try them, but to be honest, how good can a pancake really be, right? It's a pancake. In my experience a pancake is pretty much a pancake no matter how you do it up. I also will admit here for all of Yelp to see, that I do not like syrup. I loathe syrup. I have never used it on any pancake or waffle creations, I find that a bit of butter does the trick just fine. You can imagine my hesitation in ordering a stack of plain buttered pancakes, especially when there are so many ridiculously good sounding (vegetarian no less!) breakfast and brunch options on their menu. So, I went with the eggs florentine and a pancake on the side. Such a mistake! Oh that pancake. That freaking pancake. It was all I could do to save one small bite for my husband to try. They are light, airy, and the perfect texture. They almost have the taste of french toast to them. I didn't even put anything on it- it was plain and the best pancake to ever grace this gal's lips. Yet another plug for the necessity of a drive thru. A lot of Midtown folks are gonna catch me hoarded up in a booth here in my pajamas chowing down on pancakes and Creme Brulattes in the morning. Also worth a mention was the bagel and lox my husband ordered. Their bagels are fresh and pretty dense for bagels. They pair really well with the fresh, smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers. Love, Love, Love! They really pride themselves on making everything from scratch, and that goes a long way. Everything is super fresh and light, which was perfect for a mid morning pick me up :)! The vegan pancakes. The vegan pancakes. My friend who apparently hates pancakes ate almost all of them without even adding syrup. That's how stinking good those pancakes were. The honey granola on top is absolutely wonderful, and I love that they use local honey! They are also awesome about accommodating you to make sure you get whatever your heart desires (to a certain extent of course ;)..) In the past, I've only gone to Cafe Eclectic for breakfast or a cup of coffee. I am a self-proclaimed coffee snob and let me tell you, the coffee is Ah-Mazing. They have Illy for christssake. Need I say more? I didn't think so. The breakfast items are vast; pastries, croissants, donuts, pancakes, omelets, etc. I love the Rachel's Breakfast Wrap and who doesn't like buckwheat pancakes? Frankly, I just love that they have them on the menu. Ok, so back to lunch. They had plenty of vegetarian options on the menu (yay - not that I'm a full-fledged vegetarian, but it'd take too long to explain "what I am.") I ordered the pear and brie sandwich. It was served on ciabatta bread; good grief, was it good. Although, the honey dripped off of the sandwich, which made it slightly sticky, but I didn't care. My only complaint is that the food took about 30-40 minutes to arrive and the wait staff didn't seem too concerned about people needing to get back to work. During the week, I think restaurants should be conscious of some customers having a limited time to eat lunch. Lunch took almost 1 1/2 hrs. That's too long for a weekday lunch, in my opinion. I definitely recommend the midtown location (I've never gone to the one in Harbor Town), just take care not to eat there when you're in a rush. read more

Heard such great things from fellow yelpers that I was excited to try the place. I love a good cup of joe and boy did this place have an awesome one! I had the chi latte and a standard cup of coffee. If the rating was based on coffee alone I would have given it 4.5 stars. We were seated instantly. The hostess was extremely friendly. She instantly engaged us in conversation and provided a few menu recommendations prior to being seated. The place was decorated by local artists and had a very chill vibe. It seemed like a promising place for a perfect brunch. A lot of vegetarian options as well! Unfortunately things began to go downhill. We ordered the omnivore wrap, grilled cheese, and pancakes. We waited OVER 50 minutes to get our food after being seated around 1:30. By the time we ate (around 2:30) we were both starving. The wrap was good, however half of the potato "tots" were burnt. I was so hungry that I ate all but the completely black ones. The pancakes were okay and the grill cheese was not memorable. Came in during brunch and I got seated right away. The waitress brought me a water. I ordered a chickapea salad or something and she came back and told me it wasn't available because they only serve it on Tuesdays. I didn't mind. She asked if I needed a few more minutes to look over the menu again and I did. About 15 minutes passed though and she ended up not coming back to take my order. She passed my table several times but maybe she had too many tables to handle? One of the other servers noticed she forgot about me so he took initiative and took over. I ordered the eclectic rice bowl thing that comes in a pineapple with a side of hash fries? I think it was suppose to be a different take on fried rice. The rice was mushy and I didn't like how it tasted. Almonds, pineapple, spicy sausage, coconut, rice and I don't know what else but it was weird. The sweet potatoes fry things were drenched in oil. After the second server brought me my ticket and I paid, the previous server came out of nowhere and asked me if I needed my ticket. lol Like, where were you all my meal? Anyways, I won't ever order those two things again from there but I still want to give it another try hopefully with a more attentive server and something off the breakfast menu. read more

The 'cafe' had an energetic ambiance associated with it. And our server was very nice and sweet. I ordered a Cafe Au Lait and a Black bean wrap. The black bean wrap was very very good. Specially the patty, delicious! The menu also served a few other veggie alternatives such as the Quesadilla and soups and salads. Good choice for a Sunday brunch! Additionally, it is part of the Project Green Fork and Break the Chain, Eat Local. We were totally wowed by this place! The ingredients were very fresh, which makes everything so much better than the average restaurant. It was hard to decide what to order because there were so many items on the menu that sounded wonderful. We had the chicken salad on a croissant and French omelet with bacon, and they were delicious. The omelet was light, like a crepe. That was followed by the blueberry lemon scone and bacon cheddar scone for dessert. When I told the server that the blueberry lemon scone was the second best thing I've ever put in my mouth, my husband almost fainted. (The best thing is the chocolate bread pudding at The Red Fish Grill in NOLA. I'm not sure what he thought I was going to say to the guy!). The ginger peach tea and Carmel Sutra were fantastic as well. The service was great. We went around 3 o'clock, and when we asked about a particular item on the menu, our server suggested we try another option, as what we asked about wouldn't be as fresh this late in the day. We really appreciated that. Our server was very friendly and attentive. This is a place we plan to visit more often. I really like the food at Cafe Eclectic and the environment is chill, but I have to be honest and say this is the third consecutive bad experience I have had there. ( I know, silly me for going back again.). I called in an order and was given a 10-15 minute wait time. I showed up 20+ minutes later and waited an additional 15 minutes for my order, which was wrong. I had this exact same experience the last time I called in a to go order. At least the last time this happened the guy ringing me up apologized, asked me to sit down at the bar, and offered me something to drink. I have officially decided that Cafe Eclectic is my all-time favorite coffee shop in Memphis. Yes, that is a big title. It's true. All of the other coffee shops I have been to have their pros and cons, but I have not come across one con for Cafe Eclectic. They are all good. First let's start with the location. The one I usually frequent is at McLean and North Parkway, in the beautiful Evergreen district. There is beautiful trees and architecture from the Rhodes campus. The one I visited recently with my friend Rachel is in Harbor Town, aka possibly the cutest neighborhood of all time. Now, let's talk about the atmosphere. This is a place where you can do everything at your own pace. They have an actual menu, so you can pop in and out for a quick lunch. You can order a muffin to-go for breakfast. However, my favorite is to camp-out for hours at a time with coffee and a snack to work at my computer. Whatever you want to do is fine with them. The service is wonderful also. Everyone is extremely nice, conversational, easygoing, and helpful. You can find yourself in a long conversation or quick back-and-forth banter with many of the employees. Now, the food. The food is amazing. My favorite meal I have ever had at Cafe Eclectic is Pookie's Buckwheat Pancakes, made with ingredients from the Mississippi Delta. They also have an amazing fruit and Nutella crepe, and a super delicious and extensive fruit and cheese plate. The coffee is also delicious. They use Illy coffee, which is very smooth. You can choose from an extensive latte/mocha list, or get the drip coffee. Iced or hot? You choose. I have never put a bad thing in mouth that came from this place. Cafe Eclectic is also very involved in the community. They are Project Greenfork Certified, and have a very active Twitter. I am highly impressed with their use of Twitter and their dedication to acknowledge and respond to customers quickly. read more

I enjoyed a delicious breakfast here. The service was friendly and efficient, and the food was above par. I had a couple of scrambled eggs with their potato hash browns and a croissant. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and I really liked the russet and sweet potato hash. My only complaint is that the portion was small, which I find curious, as potatoes are not expensive. The croissant was so-so, but I liked the blueberry compote. I asked if they had strawberry jam, and they didn't, so I guess they offer one homemade condiment at a time, which is fine. Let me start this off by saying I have only been to Cafe Eclectic for brunch on the weekends. I'm an out-of-towner, but I come to Memphis regularly. This is my hands-down, favorite (non-alcohol serving) brunch spot. Almost every time I'm in town this is where I want to have my breakfast or brunch! I always get the Cinnful Jim or The Dawls (wasn't in menu last time I went though) as my coffee options, and a bacon & cheddar scone with whatever my meal may be.
