The Toasted Yolk gave us a little bit of everything--some hits, some misses, and one bartender who may have found a new calling. Avocado Toast Let's start with what should be one of the easiest breakfast items on any menu. Avocado toast doesn't need much--fresh avocado, a squeeze of lemon or lime, cracked pepper, sea salt, roasted tomatoes, cilantro, and a little love. Unfortunately, mine arrived with chunky raw onions, a few tomatoes, and not much else. The bright flavors that make avocado toast shine were missing. The sourdough bread, however, was perfectly toasted and had a great texture. Eggs Both dishes were ordered with eggs cooked over hard. Both arrived over easy. That's a simple request that should have been easy to execute. Salmon Benedict Presentation was nice, but the seasoning department apparently took the morning off. Salmon naturally has great flavor, but it still needs something. A squeeze of lemon, a touch of cracked pepper, sea salt, fresh herbs--anything. The salmon was bland, and the hash brown casserole followed the same theme. Breakfast Potatoes We ordered potatoes with grilled onions and received potatoes topped with the same chunky raw onions that appeared on the avocado toast. Not exactly what was expected. Now for the stars of the show... the drinks. The Mimosa was delicious, refreshing, and exactly what brunch should be. The Sidecar deserves special recognition. When the bartender admitted they had to Google how to make it, I became a little nervous. Turns out I had no reason to be. That Sidecar was fantastic and easily the best thing that hit our table all morning. Whoever made it absolutely knocked it out of the park. Final Verdict The Toasted Yolk has potential, but the kitchen needs to become friends with seasoning. The ingredients were there; the flavor was not. A few simple additions--lemon, pepper, salt, herbs, and attention to cooking eggs correctly--would have dramatically improved the experience. Will I return? Yes. The drinks were excellent, the atmosphere was pleasant, and there's enough on the menu to give it another chance. Next visit, I'll be ordering something different and hoping the kitchen brings a little more flavor to the table. read more

This is a great place for breakfast/ lunch/ brunch. Great location in Germantown. We put our name on the waitlist before heading out and were seated right away on a Sunday after church. All the folks there were super friendly and we got our food without having to wait a ling time. The menu is diverse with plenty of options regardless if you're thinking breakfast or lunch . They also have a full bar with some great specialty drinks. The big hit today were fresh warm donuts with dipping sauce. There was a blueberry donut with fresh blueberry dipping sauce and a cinimon dusted donut and caramel dipping sauce. They were both outstanding. We also had a Rueben , and also a couple breakfast plates with eggs, sausage, bacon, pancake, hash brown casserole. We were stuffed. The ambiance is nice, but service, food and coffee didn't impress me at all. We did come for Easter breakfast, so maybe that's why but still I wasn't impressed. We came early on a Sunday, and we were seated immediately. The restaurant is colorful and gives a good breakfast vibe. Our waitress took forever to come to our table, and we waited on a Diet Coke for 40 minutes because the machine was down...even though we saw the bar using fountain drinks. I got an iced coffee...nothing special it was just ok. For food, the menu was huge so there were lots of options to pick from. I got the avocado toast, which came with an egg. I wanted the egg hard boiled, but it came out fried...? The avocado toast was one slice of toast and it was very cold. The waitress also only checked on us once to give us the check, so I couldn't have even told her that the egg was wrong. Not a good place to start your morning in my opinion. read more

The savory items like the cowboy and veggie scramble and the shrimp n grits were phenomenal would definitely go back for those. The churro donuts were also very good didn't get a pic of those. Sadly, the sweet breakfast options just weren't that great. First watch has a great lemon blueberry ricotta pancake with a nice balance of sweet and savory whereas the toasted yolk version the ricotta takes over and not very sweet even with the blueberry compote, and very little lemon flavor. The peach cobbler french toast also seems to miss the mark with flavor. Overall it was a very good experience service was decent with our party of 8 we'd definitely come back to try other options on the menu. read more

Went to breakfast with my friends Monday morning. We had a great time of fellowship and feeding our bellies. I had the two eggs with cake. The dish came with one large buttermilk pancake with butter and sugar-free syrup, an order of grits, two eggs, that were sunny side up and two pieces of turkey sausage. I also ordered a cup of coffee. The coffee is okay. I am very picky when it comes to coffee. The mugs are really nice. I had to return the grits since they were very runny. The wonderful server Aisha, brought me the hash brown casserole since my grits were not very good. The casserole was very tasty. The decor has a Memphis them with landmarks of Memphis like Elvis as an egg. It is a cute mural near the restrooms. I was able to take 1/2 of my food home for more yummy treats later. My wife and I had a pretty rough morning after our 18 year old dog had just died. So, after leaving our veterinarian's office feeling hungry and saddened, per her suggestion, we settled on a late brunch here. This was my first time eating here, but my wife had visited here several times previously. We were cheerfully greeted and seated almost immediately. The menu had many, many different and delicious choices. In fact, I was really impressed that they even offered steel cut oats! I settled on the avocado toast, with poached eggs and cheese grits. Given how famished I was from missing my breakfast, I also ordered the vegetable scramble with the hash-brown casserole and biscuit. My wife opted for the two eggs and a cake, consisting of over-medium eggs, crispy bacon, hash-brown casserole, and French toast. I was pleased that I could order cold brew coffee here. I liked it so much that I quaffed two glasses of their delicious and robust brew. We were ably waited-on by Ms Taylor and Ms Spyce. They were both gracious, informative, friendly, and very attentive. I'd definitely ask to be seated again within their section! There were just two relatively minor flaws with what I ate. I found that the poached eggs on my avocado toast were slightly undercooked, but I readily devoured them anyway. I also didn't completely love the Velveeta-like cheese sauce that was on top of my vegetable scramble. But, again, I gladly ate it. I thoroughly enjoyed the cheese grits as well as all other aspects of my meals. Food therapy was what I definitely needed. My wife really liked her meal, and especially the bacon. So much so, that I'll have to wait until next time we visit before I get to sample any! The atmosphere was relaxed and leisurely. It was just what we needed after our tearful and stressful morning. I really liked this place, plan on returning again, and highly recommend it. I only wish that they had a customer loyalty program. When we walked up to the restaurant there was bacon and eggs on the ground. The food was still on the ground outside the front door when we left. We enter the restaurant and the hostess has on dingy Nike joggers. The one plus the food was good and came out fast. However, we had to wait to find a server to bring us silverware. Our drinks (sweet tea, juice soda were not sweet and had no ice) . The worst part the restaurant was dirty. There was either food, straw paper or napkins on the floor at almost every table. The bus boy would clear the table but no one swept the floor. Seriously every table. There were flies in the restaurant even in the women's bathroom. The bathroom had paper towels all over the floor. The sinks were dirty. There were no paper towels in the wall dispenser. They had a roll of paper towels by the sink that was wet at the bottom, just gross. It was Father's Day and I chose this restaurant as my husband and kids love breakfast/brunch foods. We were trying to grab breakfast quickly otherwise we would have left and gone to another restaurant. It's hard to believe this restaurant had such high ratings. Can I just start off by saying that our server was incredibly awful! She didn't have a welcoming demeanor at all. I was really taken aback by her style of communication. She asked my fiancé and I to move down a table because they had another group coming in. We were halfway done with our food by the time she asked. The right thing would have been for her to just wait until we were done. Half of the time she was nowhere to be found and when she did come by she had such a disgusting attitude. The food was great. I had the chicken and waffles with the hash brown casserole. The chicken was seasoned to perfection. The waffle was pretty sweet but paired well with the chicken. I came here for breakfast for the first time. Shanice was my server. She was very attentive and helpful. She was knowledgeable and answered all of our menu questions. When the kids meals came out, I thought it was a mistake because the pancakes were so big. When the adult meals came out the pancakes were even bigger! But that wasn't the best part. Usually pancakes are not hot and fresh by the time they arrive at your table. The kitchen staff was on it at this restaurant. Everything ordered was hot and fresh when it arrived. I was so impressed. The ambiance is great, the food is delicious, nicely presented, and worth the price, but the service is abysmal!! We've had mixed results previously, but the most recent is the last straw. They advertise closing at 3 pm, so we were hesitant about showing up at 2:30. We figured we might just pop in for sandwiches and iced tea, and still be out before 3. When we arrived, there was no sign of ANY customers, but the door was open and the lights and TV's were on. My wife went in and found the entire staff in a back room, chit-chatting. She made sure someone saw her there, and them waited awhile. No one said anything, or got up to greet/seat her. She left (still no staff motion), and we went down the road and had a great meal, to the tune of $75. After 60 minutes we ended up ordering carryout because we had an appointment to go to and couldnt wait any longer. I've been to this location twice with poor results both times. The past time, last Friday, was truly awful. The hostess was curt. The service was slow. The food was slow. Both orders were wrong. My husband accepted his. I asked for the side I had ordered FOUR times before it arrived. I never got the soda I ordered. My husband wasn't offered another drink when he finished his, and we both ran out of water. The menu is limited, the restaurant is cold and sterile (open, cafeteria-like seating), and the prices are high. Typically when I go to breakfast/brunch cafes, the portions are so small that I have to order multiple dishes in order to be satisfied. Here at Toasted Yolk, the portions are HUGE and I love it! They offer some classic breakfast dishes, some more southern-inspired dishes, and also have lunch options. I was intrigued by the blueberry donuts as a starter and their extensive brunch drink menu! If you want to try multiple lunch items, they have a pick 2 option for salads, sandwiches and soups. The vibe is pretty casual, although there are some cute murals and a nice outdoor patio. Made my first and last visit today. Food - just fine, pretty good! Service - smellier than a rotten egg. We walked in the front door. There was no sign, saying whether we are to see ourselves or wait for a hostess or anything else. After a few minutes. I asked the bartender about it. She pointed at the hostess who walked towards me and said "yes", very curtly. No silverware was given to us. I approached the hostess stand who advised "we are out". Ridiculous. Let's start with the shortcomings-- the ladies bathroom had 1 stall out of order and there's only 2 stalls to begin with. It wasn't a busy day or time (weekday, odd hour after lunch) and at one point there was a line of 3-4 of us in there waiting. Also, the cantaloupe was so hard it was terrible. All 4 of us dining had fruit and 85% of the fruit was way too hard, flavorless, indelible melon. Whoever prepped this absolutely would have known they were serving unripened cantaloupe and should've done better. I would've addressed this with our waitress but we saw so little of her. We never got refills. She was not attentive. (And as I mentioned before the place was not busy while we were there.) So those were my biggest issues. Best parts -- THE FOOD. Because to be honest that's what I came here to check out! Aside from the melon, all of the food was outstanding. The kids French toast was literally delicious and I'd go back just for that dish alone. #showstopper My brisket tacos were wonderful but the side of hash brown casserole stole the show.
