Very disappointing service from server Tina. We came as a party of 5 on a Sunday to have belated birthday celebration of our friend. Hostess presented is with quite unfitting table for our great and occasion so we requested a different sitting, on the booth. Not sure why we weren't given that place initially since place was empty. Throughout the course of the meal our server Tina made multiple mistakes, showed her attitude, was unprofessional to say the least. To name a few things: We ordered round of cocktails that took over 15 minutes. Never once she acknowledged the long wait or let us now when are they coming. When serving us cocktails she spilled half of my friends martini on the table. She never cleaned the table or offered to replace the drink. I ordered cappuccino. She served it with no sugar or spoon, I had to ask her for it and she when she came back with it 5 minutes later my cappuccino was already cold. Never have I known I had to ask for the sugar and spoon additionally when ordering a coffee... Food took very long time as well and again she never stopped at our table to acknowledge the long wait. We had our last friend joining us later on and she never came first to take her order even she knew kitchen closes soon, we had to waive her. Food was served by singe dishes in different time. It was very awkward and broke the rules of etiquette. She also asked how is the food right after dropping it when I didn't even had a moment to unroll the silverware. Tina never cleaned dirty plates off the table or send someone to do it . She never asked if we want second round of drinks/dessert/tea or coffee in the end of the meal. She came to our table and asked if we want a check to which we agreed and she already had check in her hands and dropped it, which I considered rude as well. It made us feel unwelcome and that we should leave. She didn't ask if we would like separate checks or if we would like to split if different ways. Of corse because it would be "too much trouble for her". I'm attaching the picture of our dirty table, after we paid paid already and were finishing drinks. It should have been cleaned! It was especially disappointing because the place was empty, there were only 1 other table of 6 or so and one table of 2, it was not busy at all. Café Riggs of course presents itself with beautiful ambiance and food was quite good. Hotel is beautiful too, I have stayed there a couple of times on different occasions. However the service from the Café staff did not live up to the high expectations. read more

Cafe Riggs has a lovely ambiance and attentive service. I'd probably recommend it for brunch or a nice dinner. I'm normally not too excited about hotel restaurants, but Cafe Riggs is by and large a nice venue. Some would say the prices are a little steep but I think it is offset by the atmosphere and service. If anything the drinks are perhaps a little steep, not so much the dining menu. The food is largely enjoyable and well portioned. I will note trying the tagliatelle upon a server recommendation on a recent visit. We were not impressed and it was far too salty. Le sigh. Other than that, I don't have any specific comments about the food, but it's worth a visit. Weather permitting and/or if you are still hesitant about indoor dining, they have lovely garden terrace/outdoor dining available as well. read more

I had incredible hopes for this establishment. We visited and although we did not have a Friday night reservation, we were able to do a walk in which we were incredibly grateful for. However, after we were seated and significant time passing, we noticed that 4 other tables were served before us. We chalked it up as they were busy. However, the waitress stand was right near our table and we were confused why everyone kept walking past us. Eventually we politely let someone that worked there know that we were ready to order. Service was slow and food was subpar. We ordered a beer and a glass of Prosecco because we didn't want to to take up any more time. Unfortunately the beer was warm and burgers were under cooked. Why do I come here? Because I'm bougie and a design snob. The details of the interior from both the modern and historic build out are just heart warming. It makes me happy. I like being in beautiful spaces. Period. So if you're like me, you'll enjoy Café Riggs. The coffee is some of the best, they will froth your latte to perfection. Food, however, is really mediocre. I would have loved this place to be more creative and worth the money, but it really isn't. The lox tartine was very basic and the juices too. There is a trend in hotels around DC relying on branding and fantastic design to lure people in but I'm personally over that. I want a beautiful space, a nice environment, and great food all at once. read more

We were going to a show at fords theater and wanted to have an early dinner. We had no reservation. This place is right around the corner so we walked in and got a table right away. We were three children and four adults and they were able to accommodate us at the last minute. It was an excellent and delicious meal. Service was first rate and atmosphere just lovely. Explained everything on the menu as we asked, personable, with great recommendations, and an intimate knowledge of the new that day menu. Food was all great, i personally think the triple fried fries are 1 fry too many, double would do. But everything else was great if a bit pricey (but you should know that going in). Gorgeous cafe style restaurant in the new Riggs Hotel in Penn Quarter. Great spot for a business breakfast or lunch, or to take your out of town guests. The location is central to many tourist spots downtown. Prices are high (my only reason for 4 not 5 stars) but you are paying for the ambiance and location. No happy hour yet, but I am looking forward to coming back for an after work drink. The menu has options for most tastes, a highlight was the extensive vegetable section for vegans or vegetarians. They also have a coffee bar for grabbing a quick cup and a pastry before you start your day. Very pleasant and organized service for the fIrst week open. read more

Ambience is top notch, with the Art Deco- mid century-postmodern flair. Cocktails (I've tried the French 75 and the Toreador) were classy, fresh and delicious. Food was okay. We got the tagliatelle and it was just fine, definitely not worth the money. The apple cake was great if you have room for desert. My main issue with this place is the service. The waiter was completely neglecting us or just didn't see us because we were only approached (after being at the restaurant for 3 hours) twice. It would take at least 45 minutes for each thing we ordered to come out. Including the check. Very disappointed with the service. Here, it's a perfect spot for a happy hour with co-workers, a drink with a date, a dinner with your girlfriends, or family. Definitely a spot with the goal to impress. The decor screams modern and elegant, from the high ceilings, velvet chairs, large chandeliers, and gold accents. We were very lucky to get a waiter who was beyond friendly and accommodated our every need, from allowing us to have a prime table spot, to providing us with a free dessert (it might help that we were all female and it was the day before Valentine's Day, but..). The portion sizes are quite small for the price tag, but every bite and quality was of top notch. Even the wine selection was pleasurable! I decided to try out the Pinot Noir from Oregon and can confidently say to any Pinot Noir lover, that you will not be disappointed. Excellent food and service. We got the roe and cucumber, beef tartar, branzino and prime rib. We got cocktails and Chardonnay. Food was so good. The bone marrow was insane. My husband ordered another glass of wine instead of another bottle and the server topped us all off for free. Very classy gesture for a classy establishment. We also couldn't decide between two desserts and he brought us both for the price of one! The ambiance was beautiful, the history of the building is very interesting and the decor is very tasteful and modern. Loved it!! read more

Cafe Riggs doesn't disappoint on design and being esthetically pleasingly to the eye. Walking in, I confirmed it was everything the pictures highlighted. The staff was quite welcoming and everyone made it their job to address me with a smile. It almost felt weird to be given that type of instant and direct service. Our waiter was a gem and provided great feedback to our questions about the menu. The menu isn't extensive, but I think we ordered the best items off of it because my plate was amazing. I had the salmon burger with fries and it was exceptional; it had a great taste and was juicy with flavor and a house made slaw. My friend had the egg Royale and seemed pleased too. Our drinks were good enough to order 2 more, and the top off was a sweet complimentary piece of rich chocolate cake our waiter bought us. It capped off our brunch as a good time. This was the best meal we've had at a restaurant since before the pandemic -- from start to finish, it was perfect fine dining. We allotted two hours for dinner here before the Caps game, and did use all that time. The meal began with bottles of water (still for me, sparkling for husband) and the best fresh rolls I've had in a long time. Served warm with softened real butter, fluffy in the interior and on the bottom, with the slightest crispiness on top and sprinkled with kosher salt. Delightful. We ordered the shrimp cocktail which came with six huge (probably 16-20 size) shrimp cooked to perfection and chilled not just around the edge of a glass, but on a bed of ice in a bowl. The cocktail sauce was obviously hand made, with a strong initial lemon presence and a mild heat that builds over time. It was different than standard from-a-jar cocktail sauce, but delicious. For entree we ordered the halibut, which was the softest, most silky fish I've ever had (husband is from New England and said it was easily the best fish he'd ever eaten). Poached in olive oil, it was perfectly cooked and incredibly moist. It was served over amazing gnocchi which had been cooked to perfection (soft and light) and then briefly seared for some slight crispiness on top. Over the whole thing the waiter poured the light cream sauce with salmon roe, which aren't very salty at all but provided a nice little pop of texture against the softness of the fish and gnocchi. The brussel sprouts, which we had on the side, were uniform, small, and also perfectly done, with crisp exteriors and interiors that were cooked through but not mushy. Finally, we ordered the chocolate soufflé for dessert. It rivaled anything I've had in Paris, with a subtle caramel sauce, fluffy (not mushy) interior, and classic risen top. Throughout the meal our waiter was attentive without being intrusive, topping off wine and water glasses, bringing us fresh, warm rolls when we said how much we liked them, and even a second bottle of sparkling water on him. The manager also stopped by to see how we were enjoying the meal. The wine list has a good selection of wines that aren't just from California (the 2019 Chardonnay from Burgundy was divine), as well as some different ports. Of course, all of this is in a gorgeous 1891 building with incredible ceilings. We will definitely be returning. read more

The ambiance was amazing and I loved the colors of the dining room. The space was adequate following CDC guidelines. The waiter (I think his name was Benjamin) was friendly and very prompt and made the experience nice. We ordered drinks and food items and everything tasted delicious and was beautifully placed on the plate. It is definitely one of my favorite brunch spots now!
