Took our kids to this local Italian place to try out since they love Italian food. Overall, we really liked the food. The crab bisque was delicious and mushroom caps filled with crab was also very good. Kids liked the pasta but for teenagers the portion was a little small. The menu had a lot of options and there's something for everyone. There was a lot of pasta, meet entrées, appetizers, and pizza. The only downside is that the restaurant was incredibly crowded on a Saturday evening. My chair was right up against the next table. And there was just barely enough walking space in between our table and the next one. Definitely not 6 feet of social distancing if you are looking for that sort of place. Service was a bit slow but understandable the house was packed on a Saturday night. I would probably choose not to go there on a weekend evening given the extreme crowd. I've been here at least four times in the past two months; returned only for the quality food at really great prices in a convenient location. The chicken parmigiana is amazing. Pounded, breaded and served with linguine and light tomato sauce--the way it should be. Other friends have ordered the chicken Marsala and eggplant parmigiana--no major complaints here either. They serve bread when you arrive, nothing fancy, but it's a decent start. The only reason for not giving this place more stars is the service. It seems like all the servers serve the entire restaurant so there's no consistency. They're also impersonal and we had a small annoyance on our most recent visit: We ordered wine for the table and the female server asked for all of our IDs. That's no issue since it's obviously the law...BUT...she said she had to take the IDs to the manager because it's "the rule." She took the IDs from the table and gave them to the manager. That pretty much turned our entire table off to the restaurant that evening. If I was serving or managing, I would've had the manager come over to the table to look at the IDs, not take them from the table. In this day and age, you don't want people to walk off with your license. I'll be back but if it happens again then I'll probably say something to the manager. (If new credit cards are opened in our names then I guess we know where to start! :)) read more

This is a neighborhood gem, tucked in a strip mall next to a Dunkin' and across from McDonalds, but don't be fooled by the location- this place is the real deal. My favorite dishes are the lasagna and their white pizza. Reasonably priced, excellent and friendly service, generous servings, and a real welcoming vibe. We are adding this one to our regular rotation... there are lots of new places within the Kentlands, but you won't regret venturing beyond its friendly confines to enjoy Cafe Roma. read more

Went in with a group of 15 people, made reservations prior to arriving and got seated immediately. Our server was really helpful and nice very attentive and professional he was able to recommend a few items from the menu. We order rounds of appetizers such as calamari and mozzarella sticks. We had pitcher of margaritas and woah!!! definitely worth your money. We order the wine special that they had that night as well. I should've listened to the other reviews. This place was the first time I've ever sent food back. I ordered the carbonara and I'd have to echo a previous review. The eggs were scrambled and the dish lacked flavor, a far cry from what a creamy carbonara is supposed to be. Came here one freezing evening during Covid and ate outside with my husband. I was amazed; it was one of the most romantic little dinners we'd had in some time. With wonderful food and wine, sweet, constantly attentive servers who kept our waters filled and the heater on high, and Puccini and Madama Butterfly along with other classic beautiful Italian music playing in the background - it was such a sweet experience out there by ourselves in the freezing cold... My family and I went to Cafe Roma last night and I am so looking forward to going again. The menu is extensive and it was hard to decide what to get - they have so many of my favorite Italian dishes. I had the spaghetti Carbonara (I asked to substitute angel hair for spaghetti) and was surprised the eggs were scrambled. It did not detract from my enjoyment of the dish. My daughter-in-law had a wonderful eggplant parmesan and my son had lasagna, We shared bites - of course! I was so pleasantly surprised the tomato sauce for the dishes is a wonderful light fresh tasting sauce - not the predictable heavy acidic tomato sauces so frequently served in my past. And the lasagna pasta was thin and tender. The service was wonderful and the noise level was not intrusive. I'm glad to see it is apparently the neighborhood favorite. Great little Italian restaurant. We have eaten here twice now. Both time we had different dishes. Everything we selected was very good from the different seafoods to pasta to appetizers. They bring out bread, olive oil, and butter every time to start. The prices are excellent for the quality and quantity of food. Most items are in the $15-$19 range except for the specials. Prior to being Cafe Roma this restaurant was called Italian Pines. Different owner, different crowd, similar menu. My family and I were regulars at Italian Pines. It was never crowded, food was consistent, not amazing but good. Low key and never packed Italian pines was a little Hidden gem of Montgomery county. Recently new ownership took over and rebranded. The restaurant was completely renovated and it actually looks great. Modernized the whole dining area and added an actual bar. However, the seating is super tight and all the tables are packed in together. The rebranding really brought a crowed because on Friday night this place was packed like I had never seen when it was still Italian pines. As a result the service suffered a bit and the staff had trouble keeping up with it. Although the menu has many many similarities, either the recipes have been tweaked or the new chef simply isn't executing as well as the previous chef. Started with bread basket. Standard French bread with cold butter or olive oil. White pizza was the highlight of the night, that an appetizer for the table. Salty, cheesy, thin, nice job. Also got chicken livers. An acquired taste but I loved them from Italian pines. Quality under new ownership wasn't quite up to par. Same with the veal Franceas. I got veal canaloni as my main course. It was ok, nothing to crave. Cheesy, creamy, pasta was cooked well, nice veal sauce. flavors just didn't pop, it was just average. We ended with tirimisu which was also decent but nothing over the top. I know it can't happen everything but when I go out to a restaurant I'm looking for that experience I'm going to long to recreate after I leave. Cafe Roma didn't leave me dreaming of another dinner there. Because I was loyal to Italian pines I'll probably give it another shot and see how they progress as the new staff grows into their positions. Conclusion: decent but I'm seeking a better local Italian place now that Italian pines is gone. read more

This place is in a small shopping plaza next to the Quince Orchard Library and High School. Haven't been here in a while and I am loving the change! Very cute and charming update to the interior. From the walls to the tables, it is very modern and Italian all in one. But the food was also very, very good. You can tell the bread is fresh and it is perfect- that mix of fluffy and chewy inside with a flaky but firm crust served with butter and oil and go ahead and spread some Parmesan cheese on it, too! We split the Caesar salad and an entree for lunch and walked away full but not tired afterwards - perfect for the workday. We had two rounds of bread because the wonderful lobster ravioli came with a generous portion of cream sauce we just had to soak up the bread with- and it was heavenly! The ravioli itself was a bit dry in the inside, which I thought was odd- esp for lobster. The Caesar salad was nothing special but a generous portion. We saw many more options in the specials board as we were leaving - which I wish someone inside would have told us about. The only thing that lessens my review of Cafe Roma is the Spaghetti Carbonara entree that I was served tonight. In no way was it Carbonara but more of a Spaghetti Stir Fry due to the fact that the eggs were scrambled and not emulsified in the sauce. Other than that, I had no complaints. I get carryout from Cafe Roma once every couple of weeks. The food is always as good as when you eat in, nice and hot and the order is always correct. They even separate the cold from the hot items so that your salads don't end up hot because it was sitting on a hot entree. The attention to detail is appreciated. read more

Food is overpriced and average at best. The pizza is definitely the best option on the menu. We have tried many times to support this local business but have continually had mix ups with food( totally understandable if they can make it right) and have been met with nothing but disrespect from the owner/manager (Alfredo?). He actually seems annoyed with you rather than trying to fix the issues. My husband and I are actually embarrassed bc we told so many people they should support this local place ( previous owners were great!) and come to find out they weren't impressed either! I will say the few guys working during covid have been very nice during delivery and we made sure to really take care of them $. Unfortunately the last mix up was the last chance. Granted, it's not as good as many of the Italian restaurants I've been to in New York City and New Jersey, but for this area, it's the best around.
