Such a cute little place! It's like going back in time. Almost every table is a booth. Super friendly, fast, service too. Breakfast is served all day! We tried the French toast, pancakes, the Okie special and an omelette. Everything was delicious. Prices were very reasonable. read more

We stopped here on our way to Socal on an early Saturday morning. It wasn't too busy and the server came and greeted us immediately. We had the pancake special that was only 8.99 and it was so delicious. Our food came out quick, hot, and fresh. I wasn't too full for discomfort but also so satisfied and energized enough to continue our journey. Their coffee was also really good without creamer which is rare for me. Pretty much an average 1940-50s restaurant. Could use a facelift, but since we were looking for an independent restaurant as we went through Coalinga, it met the bill. Food was good but not great, service was good with speed of order completion very good. The ambiance of a place resonates within my grading, I'm sure, and that did nothing to boost what otherwise I just have to call average. I found no reason to return. read more

The food is great. Similar to home cooking. They have a huge menu for a small town restaurant. Everyone will find something they like and it will be delicious. Food was ok. We went there for breakfast. It took a while for anyone to take our drink order. Longer for our food order, but food arrived quick. Our waitress did not bring the eggs and bacon that were part of my husband's biscuits and gravy meal until we asked her for it. I had the crepe combo. The crepes were soggy, too much syrup and frozen strawberries. Waitress was talking to persons next us, leaning on the wall, laughing way too loud calling attention to her self. Solid breakfast spot! Affordable prices, excellent service, hot coffee, toasted toast, and eggs cooked your way. This spot is sort of hidden in a parking lot, meaning, it is hard to find due to not a lot of signage. Just follow your nose in the parking lot. It is has a local diner feel and signs of route 66 are all over the walls circling the dining room. Very cool. I don't think the restaraunt is on route 66, but, nevermind, I digress. This diner has a great family vibe. My friends and I were staying at the Harris Ranch Inn about 20 minutes away. We wanted to come here and hit a grocery store for poolside supplies, I digress again. Next time I come through here I will try a milkshake, but I recommend this spot for breakfast. Not fancy or stuffy, just a good old fashioned breakfast spot. Plenty of parking in the parking lot. I stopped into cafe 101 while attending a college football game in the area. I convinced myself that a cafe in a small town would probably have the beat food as compared to some other places I encountered. The staff was friendly and we were seated promptly. There is ample parking at the location and it is well lit. I inquired as to the quality of the food and was told by an employee that the food was delicious and she eats there everyday. I felt this was a good enough reason to stick around and try it. My son ordered the chicken Parmesan and I ordered fried chicken. I didn't photograph either, out of respect for the restaurant and future diners. Their chicken parm, isn't chicken parm. It's baked chicken cut into pieces and served over spaghetti noodles with sauce. I was told by my son, who is a bit of a chicken parm aficionado, that it was terrible, and marginally better than college dorm food. Now, my fried chicken. The chicken was what you'd call chicken jerky with breading. This chicken was left in the fryer until every last cluck was given and it had no clucks left to give. The outer breading was dark brown, not golden brown, and the chicken was essentially inedible. Easily the worst fried chicken I've ever eaten. The mixed vegetables that came with were mediocre at best, however they were sadly the star of the dish. I will be back in Coalinga for more football, however I will not be patronizing the Cafe 101 on my next visit. 2 stars for the water and the server who was prompt and attentive. I do not send food back, so that was not an option. If it's cooked poorly that to me is a reflection on the kitchen staff and management for allowing bad meals to be served. read more

Came here with a large group and they were able to get us seated quite quickly. I personally ordered a bacon cheeseburger with a side of Mac and cheese. I was kind of surprised when I got the Mac and cheese because I'm pretty sure the Mac and cheese was just the Kraft Mac and cheese you can get from the store. This use to be Perkos so I was a bit confused when the windows were blacked out and no signage. I would think building code would require signage visible from all sides of the building. Anyway, the eggs were good cooked perfectly poached and wheat toast was thick and extremely good. Hash browns were typical wo the after taste. Pancakes were yuck, flat and no flavor. Coffee was ok. After a long day of driving we checked out Cafe 101 and saw "grandma's meatloaf" on the menu and honed in on that. Well if your grandma was the key person who worked for Swansons TV dinners this would be your meatloaf. Very disappointed as the mashed potatoes, gravy and corn were cold and the meatloaf was definitely some processed meatloaf that even Mrs Swanson would be ashamed of. Ultimate French Dip i was served was not as described in the menu and not worth $12.95. Poorly portioned, fatty cuts and dry.

I ordered the Eggs Benny and after 3 bites, I had to run to their restroom and puke up what I just ate. I love eggs Benedict but these people gave me a clumpy hollandaise sauce with soggy bread. This is the first time a restaurant has ever been so bad that I had to throw up. I threw away my food and left after having choked it up. Disgusting place. Very gross and horrible food that is over priced. I went to McDonald's immediately after and the Mc chickens were WAY better. NEGATIVE 5 Stars. :( read more

This spot is amazing! I didn't take any pictures because I just couldn't put my food down. It was delicious. They have the best peach cobbler I had in quite some time. The food was also quite delicious and the staff was extremely attentive and friendly. For food I chose the ultimate French dip, the dip was nothing short of heavenly, the tri tip was soft and flavorful. Bun was lightly toasted keeping some of the fluffiness of the bread, which once soaked into the dip it would melt as if it was made of butter in your mouth, however, this is not to say the bread was oily or buttery. Very disappointed in tonight's encounter. Their posted business hours are til 9 pm, and I am a late nite person. I went in for dinner at 8:35pm on a Friday night and I was told they were CLOSED. In a time when we are being told to shop local, you would think all the business would comply, and remain open during their posted business hours, and if a customer came in, when you are a smaller business you would serve them. Business here might not be what expected lately, so every customer is precious. The waitstaff is usually very good, friendly and attentive here. Food is hearty and good. During our recent trip to Coalinga, we visited this restaurant for both lunch and breakfast. We couldn't get enough. The service was friendly, attentive, and efficient. The food was fantastic. We really enjoyed the California Club for lunch and our teenagers enjoyed the steak sandwich and cheeseburgers. The portions were large - prepare for delicious leftovers. We came back again for breakfast and it was delicious too. We had waffles, short stack pancakes (platter sized), and omelettes. Each fantastic! I'm glad we discovered this restaurant. We love coming to Cafe 101. More accurately, my other half LOVES the strawberry crepes. He will get a to-go order of them any chance he can get. I have taken family visiting from out of town here on a couple of occasions too; it's the perfect diner spot for that as far as Coalinga goes. The banana caramel waffle was a delightful indulgence and super tasty. The white gravy is more peppery than I like but the biscuits are fluffy and delicious. I still need to try their shakes and Wednesday pupusas though! read more
