    4oz Brisket
    Karena S.

Quick grab n go service! I was nearby at a charging station for my car and noticed Harris BBQ! I believe that they have a restaurant on the side but we were on the way to the Bay and were in a rush. They have an order and grab service inside the Shell station. If you're hungry, this place serves better food compared to the fast foods down the street. Food: 4oz Brisket (4.3/10): This one was a little bit better than the sandwich we got. We saw that they put out a new brisket on the cutting block and we were tempted by it. It was super tender but still lacked flavor. We asked for the side of barbecue sauce and it helped with the flavor a little. It lacked a smoky flavor. Santa Maria Tri-Tip Sandwich (5/10): Ordering was pretty easy. There's a menu displayed on the top and they slice the meats right in front of you! Unfortunately, this sandwich fell a little short for me. The bread was drenched in barbecue sauce and there wasn't much flavor in the tri-tip itself.

Fast, great flavors, and helpful staff! We were on our way to LA and stopped by Harris Ranch for lunch. We didn't want the full restaurant experience, so Harris BBQ was perfect for us. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the tri tip sandwich, and they hit the spot. Very straightforward and no frills. We were in and out in 45 minutes. Will try something different on the way back!

After a quick overnight trip to Vegas, we looked forward to dropping by Harris BBQ for a late lunch. It was pretty busy, but there were plenty of seating once we got our food. This place is inside the convenience store connected with the Shell gas station. The line was pretty long but it moved. I was very impressed with the staff. They have a solid system taking orders and they were super speedy and efficient! Definitely 5 stars on the employees. I got the pulled pork sandwich with a side of potatoes salad. Yum! I also got 3 orders of main: 2 trip tips and 1 pulled pork. Each came with a side so I chose ranch baked beans w bacon and mashed potatoes. Can't go wrong with this place for good ole BBQ!

Whenever I go down to SF, I make it a point to stop here to eat; I love that they use plenty of black pepper. I ordered three different salads--all of them were delicious, and the prices were low.

Great sides - you can get several different meals... even Whole Tri-tip family meal fo $169. !!

Always great, well cooked. Brisket and sides. Perfection! Fast service, tasty. Great food- a real treat!! About $20 each meal. Burnt Ends are called "Tips" . Eat outside-it's covered.

Not bad for a quick charging pit stop along the i5! Brisket - 5/5 I liked this with the spicy bbq sauce the most. It was tender and wasn't overly salty. I would order the meat by itself again. Tritip sandwich - 3.5/5. Not much else to the sandwich except the meat and bread. It felt overly peppery for my taste. I would skip this next time. They had plenty of nice outdoor areas to eat at and the food came fast. Of course, this is nowhere as good as the actual Harris restaurant, but if you need food quick, the brisket is a solid option!

3.5 stars. Best advice from fellow Yelpers, call ahead to place your order! We arrived at 3pm and there's a line. So I guess they don't operate like normal restaurant hours, better to assume that they are busy all the time. When I called, they asked how soon I'll be here as they have a line. I told them I'm 20 minutes away and when I arrived food was ready. Upon arrival, I just needed to go to the cashier line and pay. So that was nice. The call quality could vary, so I'd advice to keep your order simple and familiarize yourself with their menu. They were in their own building, right next to the Shell gas station. You can eat outside as there's no seating inside. There's a big TV outside. It can be super hot and stuffy eating outside in summer, despite the fact that they have fans and cold mists. We were roasted in there sweating and watching FIFA game while eating. The restroom has AC and is clean and comfortable. We ordered half a pound of brisket main and a pulled pork sandwich. I asked to put all the sauces aside. The Pulled Pork Sandwich looks like a burger as it comes with burger bread but it's loaded with a thick layer of pulled pork in the middle. That's it though, no veggie, no other things, just bread and pulled pork. The pulled pork is already soaked in BBQ sauce, so there's nothing more needed to add to it. It tasted slightly spicy from the BBQ sauce, meat is super soft. The brisket was shockingly little, I couldn't believe one slice is half a pound and that's over 18 bucks! A pound is $30. The meat is super soft, one touch and the fibers fall apart. I wish they put more salt on when they BBQ, coz then naturally it'll be flavorful enough and don't need the BBQ sauce. The texture is fatty and softy enough. The mac and cheese is not bad, the cheese sauce is slightly over as the mac were like swimming in them. Overall a nice and quick stop to get some descent quality food. A nice alternative to gas station hot deli.

Came here expecting more. What a huge letdown. First - its a take put place and the servers looked bored to death. Everything was served lukewarm, ribs were dry to the bone. Sides looked sorry in the cafeteria style serving dishes and didn't taste much better. The saving grace was the brisket - in the sandwich it tasted dry due to the uneven balance of bread to meat - but eaten separately it was okay. We ordered the half rack of ribs as well. Ate 2 ribs and threw away the rest.

A great little pit stop on the drive up to the bay. The atmosphere was welcoming, though we were a bit disappointed that they had run out of horseradish by the time we arrived. Pro tip: order online about an hour in advance or be prepared for a longer line during peak times Highlights: * Brisket (9/10) - Exceptionally tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Easily the standout dish!! * Pork ribs (8/10) - Very well-seasoned with a rich, pork-forward flavor. They didn't even need sauce, though a few bites were slightly dry * Coleslaw (7/10) - Good flavor, but noticeably watery Could be improved: * Tri tip (5/10) - Unfortunately a bit dry and lacking in flavor * Burnt ends (2/10) - Overcooked to the point of being chewy and tough Overall, it's a worthwhile stop especially for the brisket and ribs

This is definitely our go to stop anytime we drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco. The food is delicious and tasty. The chicken sandwich was so moist. The seasoning was perfect. Compliments to the chef for the delicious sandwiches. The staff is wonderful and the service was wonderful. There is plenty of parking right next to the gas station. There is only outside dining or you can grab and go. A definite go to place so a quick snack. You won't be disappointed.

    Santa Maria Classic BBQ Tri-Tip

Where I usually turn left at the famed Harris Ranch to head into the County Store, this time I turned right and found myself face to face with Harris BBQ, the Harris Ranch convenience store beside the Shell station. Here, patrons can get drinks, snacks, and sandwiches with Harris Ranch's signature meats to go on their way up to the Bay Area or down to Los Angeles and beyond. I loved the timeless ranch motifs in this convenience store, shelves on shelves of local meats and spices, wood accents everywhere, the air conditioning on full blast to keep the heat out. At the far end, the staff were serving up sandwiches and sides to go, and I went over to see what there was. I got the Santa Maria Classic BBQ Tri-Tip, a Harris Ranch tri-tip slow smoked with almond wood, served with barbecue sauce, all on a French roll. Unlike hickory wood, which imparts a sweet, rich smokiness to the meats, almond wood imparts a mellow, nutty smokiness. It was a solid choice for this tri-tip sandwich I was about to eat and a nod to the almond tree as one of California's staple crops. The first bite was good. The bread was fresh, and the notes of smoked almond wood were very much present. I found the tri-tip meat to be quite dry rather than tender and juicy, and I was glad the sweet, spiced barbecue sauce helped the meat go down better. The meat rub was solid, spicing up the meat with savory notes of salt, rosemary, pepper, and herbs. Bite for bite, this was a decent casual meal at the Harris Ranch. Harris Ranch has a lot to offer for high-end and casual goers alike. The barbecue joint was the perfect place for me to grab something low-key with Harris Ranch's signature meats. I'll be back again to try their other meats.

The Harris BBQ express is a convenient stop during a road trip. Its across from the restaurant in the gas station but there are tables outside you could eat at. It's nice when ordering you can see the ingredients and add what you want. I got the southwest salad and I first I thought it wasn't a lot, but it was pretty filling with a good amount of chicken. I was able to add beans and I got cilantro lime dressing instead of caesar. My group can be particular but the person taking our order and checking out we're all very polite and accommodating. My only issue was there were flies flying around luckily didn't see any land on the food, but it was too close for comfort

Two meat combo with side salad and side mashed potato

Stopped here on the way to LA. It has Tesla charging station at $0.47 kwh. Shell gas station was taped off - not working. Restroom is clean. The line to order BBQ food is long, plus the food takes 39-44 min to get. It was Monday around 12pm, can't imagine the weekend. Expect to spend about 1-2 hours to get your food and eat. Check out my pictures and video. Recommend to order ahead of time and pick up the food at the pick up window. They offer outdoor seating with mist fans. Tri-tips were lean and dry. Briskets were bomb, mashed potato was alright and the salad was fresh. Two meat combo (4oz each) was $18, comes with one side. Each additional side is $4. The food was not bad, better than getting drive through fast food.

I have always stopped at Harris Ranch BBQ on my monthly drive between SF and LA. With the Covid Virus, that has been stopped but I will be making the drive at the end of May. Is the BBQ open? Have they started to wear masks? Are bathrooms open?

The bakery is part of the country store, which sells such random housewares and souvenir-type stuff. They have a chocolate truffle case on one side and the other side, the pastries and desserts. The pastries looked delicious and I got a few to try. They also have bags of day-old cookies for a good price. Eclair 4/5* I'm not a huge fan of eclairs with the soft fudge on top instead of the hardened chocolate. Taste wise though, it was a good eclair. The cream isn't overly sweet and the eclair itself was a light dough. Napoleon 5/5* If there's something Harris bakery does right, it's flaky pastries. Surprisingly, this Napoleon stayed crispy the entire drive home and survive even in the refrigerator the next day. Many others I've had usually get soggy, but these layers of puff pastry stayed crisp to the end of every last bite. The cream was fluffy and not too sweet, and paired perfectly with the ripe strawberries. Banana Cream Pie 3/5* I love anything banana and just had to get it when my eyes landed on the perfect swirl of whip cream covered in chunks of buttery crumbles, atop a neat little mini pie. However, the pie itself was too mushy. The crust was soggy, with the smoothness of the banana cream, soft banana slices, and rich whip cream, everything combined was too much mush. It was also too sweet. I did enjoy the crumble on top though. That was the only saving texture. Strawberry Cream Horn 5/5* Wow these were so unexpectedly delicious! The horn is super flaky and delicate, filled from end to end with a light strawberry cream. On top, bits of dehydrated strawberries were not only beautiful but added a nice tartness and texture, contrasting with the silky cream. This was a great upgrade on your classic cream horn. Chocolate Chip Cookies with Walnuts 3/5* Nothing special. They tasted better the longer they sat out because they were crisper. I prefer my cookies to have sea salt for that good balance of salty and sweet, but these cookies were just one noted. Next time, I have my eyes set on this towering cake they had on the counter and of course, take home some of those yummy cream horns.

It feels like our home away from home as we go back and forth from Northern California and to visit our family in Orange County. We always LOVED seeing the store and its unique gifts that filled the entire place. For some time, there looks to be maybe a quarter of what they used to have. So sad... I used to come and find a lot of my Christmas gifts for people during the holidays. This past Christmas, I went in and the place looked desolate. I was confused and wondered if I missed it all? I don't know if Harris Ranch is not doing well, but it really looks like they're struggling if you look at the empty feel of the store. We just left the shop now on our way back down to Southern California and once again shocked and highly disappointment. It was bad.. I really hope that whatever happening there gets better so that the store can return to the gorgeous shop that it once was.

We were not in a hurry but our section we saw others seated after in a different section and they got their food more smoothly. The section had larger tables but more communication from the person handling our table would have gone a long wait. From the point being seated, it took an hour to get our meal. We got no dinners rolls and our soup came with our meal. At the point of ordering we asked if the soup could be up-charged from cup to bowl and we were told yes. They instead charge us full price of a bowl instead of it being an up-charge (4 dollars vs 10). This should have been upfront and communicated. Disappointing experience and lot of the staffers were just chit chatting by the coffee station. Food for two adults and kids over 100 dollars was not worth it. We will not be returning. I was seated in the bar area (no choice offered), which was odd as this was mid-week and the place was far from crowded. I was attended quickly and placed an order for a Tanqueray martini. It arrived well mixed. I decided on a porterhouse after confirming with my waiter that the filet would not resemble a t-bone, but be a full filet as a porterhouse should. The steak was cooked properly, salad and sides fresh and delicious. I took off a star because my waiter gave up on me. He had checked in several times (I eat really slow these days and it was a lot of food) and the last time offered to bring me a box. I was ready to order dessert, but after a full ten minutes of an invisible waiter, I went to the hostess and offered to pay. She said she would send my waiter to my table. So, back to my table I went and waited some more. By the time he arrived, I was very unhappy. I had planned on coffee and dessert. But ended up going to the gas station next door and picking up some canned espresso and cream. Walking to my car, was an olfactory assault. If you've ever driven past Harris Ranch and the miles of cows standing under the shade structures in their own feces, you have a mild sense of what I experienced. But this was so much worse. My eyes began to water as I imagined I was walking through the feed lots. The stench of urine and cow crap was obnoxious. Some way to end an otherwise good meal. Between the service and the outdoor aroma, I doubt I'll return.
