My husband and I went to Cafe 37 last night for my birthday, for the second time dining here. Not only is the presentation impeccable, but the food is "melt in your mouth" delicious! Everything we've ordered both times was extraordinary. Additionally, the service is fantastic with top notch professionalism. Not to mention it's byob which is a plus. Most importantly, their creme brûlée is debatably one of the best we have ever eaten.. even when comparing to the ones we've had in Paris. This place is such a gem!! read more

Visited Cafe 37 on their first weekend of opening. They were set up for outdoor dining as well. We sat outside and the weather made it that much more enjoyable. My husband ordered their steak dish with red wine reduction sauce and I ordered their shrimp tempura appetizer as a meal. Delicious and impressive and tasty presentation of the food. We also ordered coffee and shared coconut sorbet served with petit cookies in a bite size paring. Great way to end a great meal. We will definitely be back. read more

Chef Caesar does not disappoint. I went with the price fixed menu. Mixed green salad with nuts and strawberries, mushroom risotto, a filet mignon at a beautiful temperature that just melted in your mouth, and a crème brûlée to top it all off. I love coming here with a group of people so that we can try different things, it's one of Ridgewood's best. Don't worry if you forgot the wine, there's a lovely shop across the street. read more

I had a nicely done arugula salad followed by perfectly cooked lamb chops. The lamb chops came with a bland sweet potato mash that was overly sweet and not a great compliment to the meat, but I still enjoyed the dish a lot. For dessert, we had the bananas foster, which amounted to caramelized bananas on top of a brioche bread pudding with a scoop of mascarpone on the side. I didn't love the mascarpone but the rest was fantastic. Even if you hate bread pudding, you might love this. The bread was fresh or at least felt fresh. The olive oil was good. The staff was friendly and helpful -- our waiter steered us to the bananas foster and we were glad he did. Ridgewood has no shortage of nice restaurants, but I'd be happy coming here again. Tips: #1: Like many places in this county, it's BYOB, but you can buy a bottle at Super Cellars across the street--they have a nice selection of wine and beer. #2: I came on a Thursday and it filled up for dinner. Went to celebrate a birthday. Started off with wrong name and phone # for reservation. Food was very good. Portions were nice. Desserts seemed to be described as one thing and not really being what you thought (if it says "with caramel sauce" I don't expect that the caramel sauce is the little decoration around the edge of the plate). Another thing is the actual plates. Sounds strange but they were shaped in such a way that when you cut or tried to scoop up food, it slid off the plate. On the final bill, they automatically put a 20% gratuity AND CHARGED A $15.34 CREDIT CARD FEE for a bill over $500. Service was ehh. Had to repeatedly ask for ice and refill our own wine glasses which meant getting up from the table and walking over to the wine and reaching over to pour for everyone. Again - not a big deal but when you're paying $$$ you would like a little service - especially if automatically being billed for it. read more

This cozy Ridgewood BYOB is about to become an ex-best secret as crowds will flock to this almost perfect petite new American epicurean delight! I loved the food so much that I have gone back again and again. Forgot to bring wine? Not a problem as there is a liquor store across the street. After having two somewhat different experiences at Cafe 37, I must say it is nice to have a new dining option in Ridgewood and I do recommend giving Cafe 37 a try for the first time if you haven't already. First experience: Let me begin by saying, I highly recommend going during the week rather than the weekend. They offer seatings on the weekend where everyone sits at the same reservation time. Problem is, the first time we had dinner here we were with a party of 10 on a Saturday night and sat for 1.5 hours before even placing our food order. There was a problem, we were told, with their not being enough menus. The space was also extremely tight being that every table was taken at the same time. The back of my chair butted up to the patron behind me...literally touching the entire night....not exactly comfortable. When the food finally arrived everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Second experience: I went for a second time in the middle of the week around 6:30pm with a group of girlfriends. The service, food, and presentation was top notch, although we had a good laugh at the Broadway tunes playing through the overhead speakers (not exactly what you'd expect to hear in an upscale dining establishment). The shrimp tempura appetizer and beet salad (special) was delicious and my friend raved about the Filet Mignon entree. The food here is simply outstanding. I had the mussels as an app and the seafood special for my main. It consisted of a lobster tail, sea scallops, shrimp and tiny clams over a bed of risotto. It was as good as it sounds. Better, actually. We will be going here again. Cafe 37 is now my favorite restaurant in Ridgewood. read more

I hosted my daughter's Bridal Shower at Cafe37 last Saturday December 7 and it was great! The food was delicious and the service was seamless. The Chef/owner, Cesar Sotomayor, made the planning of our day stress free. I live out of town as does my daughter so I did all of the planning via email and the phone. I chose this location in Ridgewood because the wedding and reception will be nearby and many of our family and friends are too. I am so happy we did. The Chef suggested we have a champagne toast - they added strawberries- great entry! We coordinated the champagne and wine delivery through the liquor store across the street. We had the Brazino, Filet mignonette and chicken dishes. All of our guests had a wonderful time! My daughter was very happy with "her" day , too! I would highly recommend Cafe 37 for any event , lunch or dinner! read more

4.5 stars it really was a tough decision but I had to go with 4 stars on this one. Don't listen to the knocks on the portion size, the entree portions are pretty decent size especially if you order an appetizer as well. Food was delicious. the short ribs were arguably the best I have ever had. Mashed potatoes were really good as well. For an appetizer I got the lobster ravioli which was also really solid. They give each person one dinner roll as opposed to a basket of bread. They have a pretty cool tray of olive oil, shaved cheese, and olives that they give the table with the dinner rolls. Another awesome thing about this place is that they give you two little complimentary bites on a spoon which were both amazing. The place is BYOB im pretty sure Ridgewood has like 3 or 4 liquor licenses only which is ridiculous. BYO, so pair your favorite wine with their great dishes. Probably my favorite dinner spot in Ridgewood. Food has always been great, the multiple times I've been able to come with family. Their butternut squash is terrific and full of flavor; presentation, on-point. Their steaks and meats are always done very well, and I've never had any issue with their entrees. Had the prix fixe last night with some family, and it was fantastic. We ventured to Ridgewood on a Tuesday night to meet a friend. She suggested CAFÉ 37. It was a good recommendation. The dining room is cozy-.sized and decorated in a clean crisp loo. The staff was accommodating and efficient. A pre-appetizer was a nice touch. The bread basket and its accompaniments were welcoming. The menu was a triple header. The regular menu contained an ample selection of salads, entrees and side dishes. The pre-fix menu offered an interesting selection of the menu. Finally, the server announced some seasonal specials including loin of venison. We selected two fish and one meat entrees. All were nicely prepared and attractive presented. Each had its own special sides that added interesting flavors to the entree. We passed on the desserts. The dessert menu was ample but predictable. All in all it was worth the trip and warrants a another visit. read more

Cafe 37 is awesome! My husband and I wanted take out tonight so I went online and ordered from their prix fixe menu (which is very reasonably priced, considering the amount of food you get). I paid online, got an email and text confirmation as well as a time to pick up. Once I arrived to pick up, I realized they were closed tonight for a private party. I went in and asked if they got my order. They did not. They bent over backwards to ensure that we got our food, even though they were busy with their private party. I told them I was happy to go somewhere else tonight, but they insisted on making our order. The owner/chef, Cesar came out and apologized, which was nice but so unnecessary! It was just a mistake but kudos to them for making our dinner n less than 10 minutes. It was all delicious. We have always had a nice experience when dining at Cafe 37. Food is out of this world. Hostess with thick frame glasses and short black hair left a bad impression. We had reservations for two and saw another couple being seated before us even though they came in after us. Zero explanation given. We waited in a cramped space way too long only to find out another table for 2 was open the whole time. Were seated in a high traffic area - my chair was kicked by busboys and waiters every 2 minutes as they passed by. Not their fault - just the table location was unfortunate. Waitress and busgirl were both very pleasant and professional. Food is the reason to come back. Just hope not to be seated by that hostess next time. read more

If you like SUGAR in your food, this is the restaurant for you! They are very generous with it! Even Creeped it's way in my salad, all over my ravioli!!! Everything we ate had sugar in it!! Goat cheese ravioli with fig jam,kale salad with half a cup of sugar hidden in it, filet mignon with a sweet wine reduction, tuna with sweet sauce... And salt! So much salt! Portions are on the small side. Besides that, elegant place, friendly stuff, fresh ingredients , superb filet mignon! Water is not filtered! Such a turn off! Chlorine bleach does not sit well with the concept of gourmet food! Desserts some people said can beat souk across the street! Don't be fooled, they can't compare ! We went for our anniversary last night and were very excited to be going out for our first restaurant in months. The atmosphere under COVID conditions was great. I would have given the restaurant two stars if not for the waitstaff working hard to make our experience enjoyable. Now to our meal. I started with the mussels which were just Ok. My wife started with the goats cheese ravioli and was very happy. That's where the good bit ends. Both our mains were unacceptable. Most especially my wife's $38 filet which tasted as poorly as it presented. Even the mash potatoes were blah. I had the sea bass which was ugly and tasted subpar. We ordered two espresso macchiato's which were fine and my wife's favourite dessert to share, a creme brûlée. Everything about it was wrong. The vessel it was served in, a tall glass, is ridiculously ill thought out. The custard was barely set and unappealing, the absurdly small surface area which should be a crisp crackable top was barely firm and the strawberries a bad choice. It literally tasted like store bought pudding. We understand it's been a difficult few months for the restaurant industry. So happy to see places reopening. Hopefully Cafe 37 gets back on track as we had heard great things. read more

Very nice outdoor dinning area with great food and very good service. A little surprised they tried to take on a extra charge for using a credit card. Never seen that before and a little strange (they just started doing). Asked manager and he took it off so again good service but for a high end place think this lacks class. Still would recommend and enjoy this place but the extra cc charge is weak. read more

This is my favorite restaurant for special occasions, like birthdays, etc. Food is excellent . I don't usually eat beef but their sirloin entree is the best I have ever eaten. We tried Cafe-37 for the first time for my son's birthday and it did not disappoint! We decided on the prix-fixe menu because it offered so many tempting options. For appetizers, we tried both the mixed mushroom risotto and mussel and clams. The mushrooms were incredibly fresh and plentiful in the risotto so that each bite was a pleasure. The broth that came with the mussel and clams was rich and tasty like a bouillabaisse. The second course we chose a special mixed green salad with strawberries, glazed pecans and a rich, creamy goat cheese. Many places do not pay enough attention to the dressing, but this salad was dressed perfectly and the goat cheese was outstanding. Our main entrees were equally mouthwatering. The filet mignon was extremely tender and came with garlic potatoes and nice portion of caramelized onions. The venison was equally delicious and offered a potato croquette which complemented it wonderfully. The desserts we tried included the chocolate cake, puffs with coconut ice cream (profiteroles), and banana foster with a bread pudding. The bread pudding and coconut ice cream were especially tasty. I highly recommend Chef Cesar and Café-37. The menu is full of excellent options that are well worth exploring on future visits. read more

i hosted a bridal shower at Cafe 37 this past weekend, and could not have been happier with how everything turned out. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the venue was elegant. Chef/Owner Cesar Sotomayor did a wonderful job. He worked closely with me to guide me in developing a menu and setting that all our guests would enjoy and, in the end, he more than lived up to his reputation as one of the best chefs in the area. Many of our guests have called me since to rave about the food, service and venue, saying it was one of the best events they had ever attended. Visited Cafe 37 with family on a random weekday. Overall a decent experience but I would not return sadly. Firstly, the food was just okay but certainly nicely presented. The standout flavor profile was the goat cheese ravioli appetizer--which I'm sad to say apparently is being taken off the menu for the summer months. My husband and father felt their dishes were lacking significant flavor. My Nana enjoyed her salmon. My dish, the scallops, was fairly standard but again well presented. The service was attentive in general, and our waiter was very nice. I was disappointed, however, when we noticed every other table but ours had been given an amuse bouche at the start of their meal. When we inquired, the waiter kind of looked at us like we were stupid and didn't apologize for the error. read more

I hosted my sister's bridal shower at Cafe 37 and cannot say enough wonderful things. The head chef and owner Cesar was incredible and easy to work with from locking down the event to the day of the event and everything in between. My family and I went on a Saturday night in March before we held the event in April to check out the venue and taste the food. It was outstanding and the service is top notch. I had the sashimi ahi tuna and it melted in my mouth. A few other entrees my family had and raved about were the filet mignon, bronzini, and salmon. We chose a special they had that night as an appetizer and from the start we knew we found a solid restaurant. Before the bridal shower, Cesar was a huge help. Discussing/confirming the menu was seamless and once I provided Cesar with the number of guests he took it from there. The bridal shower was at 12pm and we showed up to decorate at 11am. The tables were already set perfectly with the staff ready to help anyway they can. Felix was an incredible server and very attentive! The food the day of was another amazing experience. We chose the burrata and mixed green salad as appetizers, filet, salmon, or mushroom risotto (gluten-free & vegetarian) as entrees, and we brought our own macaroon tower from Sook across the street (very delicious as well!). Cesar made every dish to the desire of the guest. One of the ladies is gluten free but wanted the filet so he made the sauce on the filet gluten-free just for her! One of my biggest pet peeves about a restaurant is when they offer a price fixed option with a subset of items that are on the menu and then serve half the regular menu portion. It's perfectly ok if you let the customer know, but bait and switch never works at a restaurant long term. Ordered the shrimp first course, came with 1 shrimp. Salad was a half portion and ahi tuna was 3 very small slivers and an end piece the size of half my pinky. Would have been 2 stars but food was good just didn't like being duped. May go back but definitely not for price fixe. read more

I cannot express my anger over what happened recently while attempting to have dinner here. We were 2 couples who frequently dine here. The other couple had made our reservation (confirmed) for June 24 on Open Table. It was a hot, humid night. When we got there, we were told they could not honor our reservation because "Open Table made a mistake" and there was a large party of 23 (!) that wasn't listed in their comp (That sounds to me as if someone at the restaurant put in the large party AFTER the reservation was made through Open Table and didn't bother to let us know). We were offered outdoor seating, but it was WAY too hot. We expressed our anger to the host, who said he would go check with his boss if anything could be done. A few minutes later the host, NOT EVEN THE BOSS, came back and told us nothing could be done. We were livid and told him we would never be back. One would have expected at least an apology from from the boss himself, if not some kind of compensation. With so many wonderful restaurants in this area, with much better customer service, this kind of treatment from Cafe 37 is surprising and disappointing. After receiving a message from Cesar, we did return for a complimentary dinner. It was fabulous! Kudos to him for making everything right; we loved the our dinner and will be back many times. Again Danielle. The Parfait that Cesar offers at Cafe 37 is not Crab and not Crab sticking out. How can a person who doesn't even know what they ate, make a comment about what they ate. First, It is a lobster parfait. Fresh Lobster at that...over a bed of mixed greens with Fresh Artichokes. That "Thing" Sticking out of the parfait glass, that is a Yuca Chip. So....It is a layered appetizer with Greens at the bottom, Then Lobster, then Artichokes. Good with the ignorant comment on the kitchen. read more

Came saturday night with friends from Franklin Lakes and it was our first time. Sashimi tuna, filet mignon, saffron paella and Australian lamb chops were ordered. We were all very pleased with our dinner choices. Rob our server was very attentive and knowledgeable on the evenings specials. It's a byob. Interior is very pleasing. Outdoor seating is available. We choose not to be outside because it's a narrow sidewalk and it would feel when pedestrians walk by, they would be on top of us. I would definitely take the drive to Cafe 37 again. read more

I THINK THIS IS RIDGEWOOD's BEST NEW RESTAURANT. This is my first review in ages, even though I regularly use Yelp. I just had to write it. It is hard to believe that Ridgewood has yet another new restaurant, and this one is at the top of my list. Cafe 37 offers the cozy, cordial service and outstanding food preparation that top restaurants used to offer -- without any silly fluff or crazy high prices. Just wonderful food, so carefully and creatively prepared, and enthusiastically served. I had to think twice about sending in this review, because I don't want Cafe 37 to get too crowded. But, it seems like they even work to pace table seatings so their outstanding quality is not compromised. Thank you Cafe 37. read more

Usually I don't leave my neck of the woods for a long 90 min ride for a restaurant. But I have to say that I was pleasantly surprise with the food. You been greeted by a very nice staff and the environment is intimate and romantic. I went with my wife, my mother-in-law and her friend. We decided to follow some of the specials and some of the waiter recommendations. I have to say was spot on. The best dishes I tried was: Tuna tartine, Mushroom truffle risotto, Mussels, Grass Fed Medallions of Filet Mignon, Bonzino, Goat cheese ravioli.
