Had lunch here today since we saw high reviews. Drove from loxley just to visit. Had the Cat fish etouffee it was very good. Moist and crispy at the same time. The green beans, fried okra, we're great. The salad bar was small in size but surprisingly had a big selection of really great ingredients. Check out the pics! The service was sub par, however Saturday must be a big night for takeout--front takeout area was packed as we left, but upon arrival there was no one in the dinning room (5:00). This was also a big football night. Alabama & LSU. We tried this restaurant because of the 5 star rating. My family and I decided, though a little off the beaten path, this would be a a great place as we ventured back to B'ham from a soccer tournament. Cute place tucked away in a quaint neighborhood all seemed to be just right. If you blink you will quickly miss the building because of how quaint the area is. As I stated, there were no customers in the dining room. upon arrival. As we were seated the waitress came over and proceeded to hand us our menus and take our drink orders. While waiting for our drinks to be served, a table of four adults were seated as well as a table with one gentleman. The waitress took our order, which included our appetizer order and our entrée order. Our meal took a very long time to come out--about 30 minutes. In the meantime, the table of four which sat down and ordered AFTER us, were served their meal as we sat and waited patiently for ours. As we proceeded to wait, the gentleman that was sitting alone, was also served his meal. It was obvious the table of four and the gentleman seated alone were locals and must have frequented the restaurant often because they were spoken to on a first name basis. To me that is just poor customer service and blatantly obvious you are not in the market for outsiders to give you a try. The meal itself was OK. I ordered a hamburger with grilled mushrooms with a side of grilled zucchini, my son ordered and oyster poh boy, and my daughter ordered the crabcake platter. We did order an appetizer of 3 tiny meat pies. They were the size of a small clamshell. Also, the waitress forgot to deliver my grilled zucchini. When she brought it to me it looked to have been tossed on the griddle with griddle grease. It was not "grilled"..it was greasy and undercooked. Definitely not consumable. The waitress seemed a bit stressed out between the takeout orders and serving the dining room. She was the only one working the front and the dining room-- definitely in the weeds. Also, as the dinner hour continued the room became more and more smoke filled. The grease trap surely hasn't been cleaned in quite some time. When we left we smelled like that dirty grease trap. I had a 4 hour drive ahead of me and a horrible headache as we left because of 1, the slow service and 2, the overabundant greasy smoke that continued to permeate our clothes throughout the drive back. Needless to say, we will not be returning and should have thought twice before giving this highly rated hole in the wall a try. The dinner for the three of us was over 50 dollars and that was without tip. ***in response to saying "you spoke to me"...you absolutely DID NOT. As I said in my post above, there wasn't anyone in the dining room AND we were the only car in the parking lot when we arrived. Seems as if there was another dissatisfied customer that you are speaking of that evening--not just me. Please understand that I would have surely spoken to you had I the opportunity, however there wasn't anyone available. It probably would have been best that you closed since your equipment was not working properly and that you were understaffed. Good luck..hope your hood has been resolved and that you have resolved the staffing issue! read more

We visited Cafe Acadiana (an hour and a half out of our way) on our way to Tuscaloosa, Alabama from Texas. By far THE BEST Cajun food I have ever eaten. All staff were extremely nice to us, Gerald is so sweet too! We all had different meals and everything was incredible. My and the wife's go to place for awesome food and great service. The owner always comes out to say hi and check your food. If you are in the mood to put it away, go for the Cajun platter. Loaded with fish, shrimp and the best crab bisque type thing( I dont know what it's called). But, it is so great it's hard to describe. The gumbo that comes with it is equally good. Started off with the crab cake appetizer and WOW! It was absolute Perfection on a plate. Perfectly crisp outside surrounding obviously high quality lump crab with just enough binder and seasonings to hold it together and topped with an unforgetably amazing sauce. A 5/5 rating simply doesn't to it justice. For an entree I had the Gulf platter to get a good sampling of their offerings and was pleasantly surprised by more great food. Everything was delicious and prepared very well. The crawfish ettouffee was an exceedingly rare treat prepared by someone who clearly knows what a perfect crawfish ettouffee should be. The ratio of ettouffee to rice was more ettouffee than rice but the flavor was so good that the only benefit a little more rice would add would be to prolong the enjoyment a few more bites. The blackened Mahi was seasoned well but was very slightly overcooked and a bit mildly seasoned for my taste. I'd still give it 4/5 because it mostly suffered from trying to live up to the excellence of everything that came before it. The hush puppies were very good but also of the typical sweet cornbread style that's common in this area while my preference is the more savory unsweetened cornbread/onion style from the more northern parts of the south. The fried shrimp were also quite good but fairly standard in this area. The same shrimp, quickly pan seared and topped with the same sauce as the earlier crab cake, would have been epic but it's also not what I ordered so I'm not critizing but just dreaming of what I wish I'd asked for. And lastly, Kudo's to whoever made your sweet tea. It was perfectly sweetend to my taste - sweet but not too sweet and there was not even a hint of bitterness anywhere as is typical with instant or poorly brewed teas. Overall I can honestly say this is one of the best places to eat I've found along the entire gulf coast outside NOLA and that's because I avoid NOLA and Its traffic. read more

We both ordered the sampler since we couldn't decide which was a wonderful choice. Crawfish and Okra Gumbo, Crawfish Étouffée, Fried Crawfish, and crawfish in a savory pie! My husband was worried ordering it this way wouldn't give him enough of what he wanted, that it would only be a taste. Wrong, wrong, wrong. The servings are very generous and we could have split one of the samplers. The food was spot on as was the service. The only thing I'm sad about is that we live in Jacksonville so we can't have this more often. read more

Super cute Southern/Creole style restaurant. Family friendly, we came in for lunch and had nothing but courteous servers and delicious food. We had lunch specials that came with salad bar and a side. The salad bar is delicious and a good variety of toppings. Ranch Dressing is the best! I chose the catfish and okra, catfish was clean tasting and cooked perfect. Our family shared a gumbo and everyone enjoyed it. Plenty of kid options and everyone's serving was plentiful with leftovers to go! Highly recommend this restaurant. I rarely write reviews but was compelled to do so after my son and I had an early dinner today. We started with a cup of gumbo and their boudin balls. Both were very very good! The special dipping sauce was perfectly spicy hot and enhanced the boudin balls perfectly. The gumbo was excellent. We ordered the chefs special which was an assortment of their mainstay dishes. My favorite was the crawfish etouffe. This stuff is authentic Cajun goodness. The shrimp were perfectly fried and the cheesy crabmeat soufflé was very tasty. Blackened mahi was a generous size and had just enough blackened to accent the nice piece of fish. The entire platter was one good thing after another. My son loved the red beans and rice side dish too. The sweet tea was so good I brought home a to go cup and added some vodka mandarin to spice it up a bit. The waitress was as nice and sweet as they come and the owners stopped to chat with me a few minutes even though they were slammed busy. They seem to be true restaurateurs and their graciousness make me want to tell everyone about this place. When i return with my wife, I will bring a nice Abita beer to accompany the dinner since they are byob. This restaurant is officially on my rotation list from now on! read more

Excellent Food. My husband and I are both from Louisiana. I grew up in Acadiana. I was born a Broussard. So needless to say I know what good Cajun food taste like! I had A Po boy that did not disappoint! And fried boudin balls that tasted like home:) My husband had red beans and rice along with a burger. Very grateful to be just minutes away from a fellow Cajun with a cafe full of great food. The only down side was when we called the girl that answered the phone ask my husband why should it matter where they get their bread for the Po boys.
