I came here today with my grandfather and my little cousin for the first time and it was amazing! Who knew such an incredible restaurant was less than 5 minutes away from my house?! The staff was so sweet. They give you all the time you need to look over and make friendly suggestions! Originally I wanted to order the shrimp gumbo, but unfortunately they were out. I'm not upset about it though, I understand that it is most likely a popular item and some restaurants are still trying to figure out how to operate under these pandemic circumstances. For my entree I ordered the grilled shrimp with a side of grilled zucchini. I loved how well both of the items were seasoned. Casual spot, easy parking, good service. I like the salad bar! I think its a really nice option to have included with your meal. Split two entrees. +First, the crab au gratin which tasted very fresh and comforting - more on the line of something that is home cooking rather than complex flavors. Really enjoyed it, just a note. It came with shrimp that were perfectly cooked! I chose a stuffed potato as my side which was so creamy and delicious. Also, a couple of hush puppies are given on the side - I always appreciated something fried and yummy. +Next, the burrito stuffed with shrimp & crawfish, smothered in sauce. The burrito too was good, but again lacking that complexity. The sauce however was rich and heavenly, with hunks of seafood. Also - I might call this more of an eggroll than a burrito! It was on the smaller side. We were given two small rolls which were warm and had a slight sweetness to them, great for sopping up that sauce. We stopped by with some friends a couple of weeks ago and we were glad we did. We split the shrimp Opelousas, boudin balls with the other couple and a cup of crawfish étouffée with the wife. It was all EXCELLENT. The shrimp Opelousas were still very crispy and were soggy from the sauce on them. I never had boudin before and it was really good. For the main meal, I split the Bayou platter (I think that was what it was called) with my wife and it included shrimp étouffée, fried shrimp, blackened fish of some sorts and crabmeat au gratin. It also came with hush puppies. I liked the crawfish étouffée better than the shrimp even though I typically like shrimp way more. The crabmeat au gratin was very creamy and my wife ate most of that one. The owner and staff were great. We tried to take a picture with the 4 of us before we went in and the owner asked us if he could assist us and take the picture for us. Fantastic small operation with big value throughout. I discovered that the owner John will cut your steak to order if you know to ask. I like a big steak, most places give you a Ribeye that is 12-ounces max, but I like 18-24 oz. myself and John will do it for me. The Opelousas topping (honey-sweet and spicy fried crawfish tails) is a nice extra if you like that (I do!) The salad bar is first-rate and nice and fresh and the sides are all good, but I always go with the twice-baked potato. My wife's preferred dish is fried shrimp and these folks do it VERY nicely. It is fresh and sweet and fried just right, not heavy on the batter like a lot of places. My wife has never been less than thrilled with her order and usually has a "go box" full of stuff to take home. We generally spend no more than $30 all told and usually have leftovers to take home on top. Bring your own wine or beer and you have a terrific dinner solution without having to get dressed up or drive too far. read more

Have heard good things about this place so decided to allow car nav system to amaze me again by telling me where to go though it was a detour from my destination. Parking lot was full except for someone leaving just as I arrived. Then full again. Not much parking that I could see. Thought it would be full inside but were lots of open tables so quickly seated by very nice lady. Everyone I interacted with was very nice. Now the food. I opted for a daily special of fried shrimp, fried grouper which came with hush puppies, green beans and potato salad. Had a cup of shrimp/crawfish gumbo which was ok but nothing special. The fried shrimp were cooked just a little too long but still ok. Green beans typical long cooked southern style. Hush puppies very tasty. Potato salad was new to me. It was very hot! Not spicy but stove hot. I have never seen hot potato salad unless it was used with the word German. Mine really needs to be room temp or slightly chilled. Did not like it but that may all the rage in Opelousas. Wife had the appetizer crab cake with shrimp sauce on it. She liked it but $12! Seemed a little high but it is what it is. Five star ratings! Seriously. This is a run of the mill fry house at best. Lackluster service, poor excuse for a salad bar. We've been meaning to check this place out for a while, the moment we walked in the door and picked up on the vibes, what we really wanted to do was an about face and depart. We didn't, we opted to split one of the nights specials + an additional salad bar. Splitting a 17 buck entree netted us a bill of just South of 28 bucks, this was achieved, not by beverages, we had tap water, no straw, but the hefty sharing charge levied. Speaking of that 4 dollar charge, wouldn't ya think they'd offer you a second plate if you opted to split? They didn't, nor did we bother to ask, like a couple puppies, I ate from one side, my spouse the other. Once the platter (entree) was delivered that was the last we saw of our waitress, actually we didn't need more water, nor anything else. The bill was presented halfway through the entree, seeing it placed on the table, I'm thinking, no thank you, we wouldn't care for desert. We weren't asked, but in fact, we definitely didn't. Management you paying attention? We drove from Spanish Fort just to try your restaurant, we've got that block checked. Who writes these reviews on Yelp anyway, management? Actually we get better service at a steam table joint, and just as good food, come to think of it I saw similarity's on a couple salad bar items, SE of Fairhope. Difference, we could've eaten, if we desired, till we popped for eleven smackers each. December 14th I have a charge on my statement recorded from Cafe Acadiana Silverhill AL in the amount of $31.25. When we ordered we ordered a second salad bar, this was added on the bill, (however), the bottom of the bill was something I did not understand. It was 2 X 2.00 sharing. At the register the total was $27.25, I was asked by the cashier if we would like to add a tip. We (I) added $4.00. I signed the ticket and we left. I had calculated the bill in my head, it had to have been the 2 X 2.00 to achieve that amount. Had that not happened I properly would have kept my opinion of our experience to myself. As I recall, the server block on the bill stated ME, whoever that is? Incidentally Gerald, I wouldn't have brought up the overcharge except for you correcting the bill in your reply. We appreciate the fact you are a small business, we shy away from chains, we too feel bad regarding our experience. Here's the thing, a Michelin Star Restaurant, you're not. Excellent food! A little off the path from where we were staying but so worth it! Every thing we chose was amazing! We actually found this spot on our way into town and had to return!! We are in Perdido Beach area leaving back to DFW tomorrow and drove all the way back to eat our last dinner at our new favorite spot! The owner is onsite and engaging. Very nice man! He was sure to come by on both visits and thank us for coming in with the family! Loved that! His staff was kind and helpful too! But it was lunch time after alligator alley and it was packed. I was looking for a real local place. Subpar fried shrimp and the mashed potatoes were sooooo bland. The peas and carrots were from a can. Shrimp po boy had no creole sauce, but did have fixings like lettuce tomato and onion. Fries were good- according to the kids. Stopped here on a whim today and I am so glad we did. It was AMAZING. I got the fried shrimp lunch special and my mom and boyfriend both got the catfish lunch special. For $9 I got about a dozen shrimp and their plates were also $9 and they got about 4 pieces of catfish, and all the plates came with green beans, red beans and rice, hush puppies (best I've ever had, seriously) and the salad bar. The salad bar had really fresh ingredients and a few different salads other than stuff to make a green salad- the macaroni salad was phenomenal and they also had slaw and broccoli salad. I love seafood and used to work at a seafood restaurant and this is honestly some of the best I've had. It's a cute little place too, and the staff was very friendly and provided great service. Quaint place with a nice atmosphere, but that has nothing to do with my review, most waters say "spring water" or "fresh" I can say from personal first hand experience, they are lies. But this, this water right here is probably the closest water I have tasted to real genuine spring water. The ice is the nice rectangle with the weird little break pieces from the machine that made them. The cup is a nice "Family owned community coffee" logo cup, which is to be expected of a cafe(nice). Now onto the water itself, crispness itself firm 6/10 it has enough to notice but not a lot to be overly pleased with, the water has no soft taste nor a bad aftertaste. Ice cold water straight to our table, a true taste that reminds me of a real flowing fresh water spring. Update, the reason they are getting 5 stars, I was halfway done on my water and she comes over with a smiling face and a fresh pitcher of water to refill my cup without me having to ask. Wonderful amazing water. This is the first true water that gets a 9/10 on the rating, if only it had a slight crispier taste it would be a perfect score. Well done Café, we'll done. read more
