The ambiance is cool and this is the only cafe by the shipyards. I love the open space that's big enough to work, meet up with a friend etc. I just have 2 issues. One, is that sometimes they're not open early morning per the posted business hours. Forces me to go to Starbucks on my way to work. Secondly, the espresso drinks are inconsistent or not up to par. So I'd rather drive to dogpatch or Portreo hill to get a proper espresso drink. So we ordered a Cortado and she apologizes saying she ran out of small cups and put it in a latte cup. However the ratio to milk and espresso was wayyyy too much milk. It was difficult to taste any espresso at all. read more

I'm so very happy. The cafe is in a large, I mean really large, industrial space. Plenty of free street parking. I'm chilling in a comfy chair, with a view of a neighborhood I've previously only passed through on my way to the annual Open Studios. (That's another review, put it on your calendar). I'm guessing the Cafe site used to be a fire station, with its huge open garage door, big enough for a very large truck. 9am on a Wednesday, there's a woman reading a book, no laptop village! Bonus points for that. The patrons seem to be locals, with a lot of construction workers picking up coffee to go. Cafe & Avocado Toast: 5 Stars: * toast that's actually toasted! * You can eat with your hands. * good flavor profile * ingredients don't compete with the avocado. * presentation * cafe ambiance * friendly service I was worried about the seaweed topping, but surprised I really liked it. Adds a salty pop which doesn't interfere with the mild, creamy avocado. I did scrape some of it off though. Bacon was yummy, chewy, took off some of the fat 'cause I'm a picky eater. About that giant garage door essentially making the cafe open air. Dress accordingly. 5 star experience. Destination dining. I'll be back. read more

Terrible experience with Café Alma. I placed an order through DoorDash and the restaurant refused to answer the phone despite DoorDash support calling them repeatedly for over an hour. Because of their complete lack of responsiveness, my order ended up delayed more than 1 hour and 30 minutes. It's hard to understand how a business can operate while ignoring every call that comes in, especially when customers are waiting on orders. This level of disorganization and incompetence is unacceptable. If Café Alma can't handle basic communication, they shouldn't be accepting online orders at all. read more

Absolutely 10/10 cafe. The ambiance, the food, the drinks, the service; all on point. This is my favorite place to get a quick lunch or tea. My favorite is the BZT, bacon zucchini and tomato. Not only are their offerings delicious but I really appreciate their ethos. They truly support the neighborhood by regularly hosting workshops and events. Last I was there I saw them collabing with shipyard art just down the block. My only wish is that they would stay open later! They close pretty early at 2pm. read more

Cafe Alma's "Wedge Salad" ($12) is good enough to eat two days in a row so I did. Upon visit #2 I brought an acquaintance, who ordered a different salad on the menu, and she concurred: Cafe Alma makes a great salad. We can though, split hairs over whether their Wedge Salad is any sort of Wedge Salad at all. I've always known a Wedge Salad to start with a large wedge of Iceberg Lettuce and here the lettuce is laid out on the plate. And it's Romaine, not Iceberg. And who cares at all? It's that good. Get it. When I suggested Cafe Alma to said acquaintance she asked if they had outdoor seating and I had to pause a moment. "The whole thing is kind of open to the elements" I responded. I can't say what set-up they employ in Winter, but right now the entire front of the place - and it's a very big front - is wide open and most tables sit under a very high roofline and feel outdoors, with plenty of space between each. If someone had introduced me to Cafe Alma (I found it on my own) I'd be impressed by several things. The Bayview-Hunters Point location would first tell me that this person was someone who sought out good finds in locations a bit off the beaten path. Second, with its shelves of curated, artist-produced knick-knacks and eye-catching tilework I'd think that person had a nice eye for design. And finally, I'd know that they have very good taste because this is a restaurant after all, of the fast-casual ilk, and their salads are sheer joy. I am left to assume that the rest of the menu is equally delicious but I know I'll never know. Cafe Alma's Wedge Salad is it for me and I'd be lying were I to say I had any intention of trying anything else on that menu. Good place read more

This place is great! Wonderful grilled sandwiches and I particularly enjoyed my lemonade. Very refreshing. I think they have a strawberry one as well. The food at Cafe Alma is top-notch. The menu is limited but that's how you know the options that they do have will be delicious and made with high-quality ingredients. I got a chance to try a panini that came with pesto, zucchini, and cheese as well as a Caesar salad and it was amazing. All the ingredients came together so well and were made fresh so that the flavors really came through. The meal itself wasn't too heavy, even though they give you a generous portion of salad. Definitely a great place to stop by for a coffee and a bite to eat. read more

I'm very grateful you're still thriving, but sadly, today I felt the very present stress of your crew. The young lady at the counter seemed so upset. I definitely missed her free spirit from a year ago. Hard times create even harder feelings. I get it. I'm trying too. Today, I went to my office to pack up. It's been a highly eventful & very emotional week so it was nice to step away to grab lunch. I visited this spot quite a bit last year. Can't believe it's been a year...The last time was for my work's holiday gathering. So much has happened since then... So many changes & sadly, not for the better. I was at work and I told my co-workers I wanted new to eat in the Hunters Point Bayview so thanks to Yelp, I found this place and the panini's looked good and sounded good on the menu, and we headed to Alma Cafe and ordered the BZT Panini, and myself and my other co-worker ordered the Mushroom Panini, and we all had a side arugula salad and it was delicious. It is a new reasonable spot the meal is $11 for a panini and side salad. The ladies who work in there are very nice and the greet you when you walk in. It is a very clean Resturant and the really enjoyed our food we will definitely be going back to try some more yummy things in the menu. Definitely give this place a try if you are in the San Francisco area, you will not be disappointed. Also try their Hibiscus Limeade it was really good. read more

Very nice place for breakfast and brunch. Large open space for outside seating. Also cozy and lovely corners for those who love inside seating. Food was great. We ordered 3 beans chili soup and Caesar salad- portions are large and very delicious. Definitely will become one of our favorite brunch places. Service is good and fast. This is one of my favorite coffee spots in San Francisco. First and foremost, it's doggy friendly. The staff are incredibly sweet although there have been few handful of times I've visited. They have a standard selection of cafe drinks and a delicious selection of sandwiches and other food items. Parking is ample, free, and unrestricted. It's almost always sunny in India basin which makes the space really nice to work out of - lots of fresh air (high ceiling/garage door opening warehouse setting) and sunshine. I wished Peet's Coffee was next to the water. Not these wanna be special places. You cannot even order your drink the way you want it and food the way you want it. I believe a restaurant or any place should accommodate customers, not just fake smiles . I don't know, is it the abstract art that makes you feel special or is it those blends foods and drinks? I think so call healthy belong in hospital. Talk about healthy food, aren't those sweets and cupcakes bad people who are diabetes? Let's also talk about sugar packs. You want to be health conscious but those sugar and sweetener are not healthy. The people that give you 5 star reviews probably know you through town meeting. SUCKS. :) read more

I came in for a triple mocha around 9:00am, I was there only one there, hoping this would be a quick coffee trip. A mocha is simple to make. My mocha took an unusually long time to make and the espresso tasted watered down as if they used coffee to make it. I had to go to work so I couldn't return to have it remade. I am very disappointed will not return. read more

This is a germ hidden in the hood ;) food is yummy and nice presentation even with take-out order. Parking is easy there. They even have an area for local artist to leave their item to sell. It's a self-service cafe. Simple and open environment , good for meet up and work remotely. read more

The interior has more space than my entire condo building - with some more seating it would be good - and some louder music to liven it up, but for being open a few days now, this place is AWESOME. This is a great place. I came in for lunch. I Chad the Reuben panini sandwich. The bread really was crunchy and the cheese melted and the pastrami was quite good not fatty. I could only eat half. So glad I found this place, came here for lunch cause I saw the reviews figured I'd try the wedge salad. Was immediately impressed by the set up, I think it looks pretty cool nice and open, loved the artwork and the cozy ambience. Was greeted by a very nice lady I assume is the owner, she was really nice and made sure to check up on me throughout my meal. The salad was great and HUGE, I loved it I tried my best to finish it all but it was a big portion lol. Paired it with the blackberry lemonade and I was feeling great. Overall great taste, great look, good price but even better seeing a family owned/operated place serving their community with not only delicious meals but great vibes, can't wait to come back. read more

Cafe Alma is one of those gems that you pass by all the time, and don't think much about. But ones you give it a try, omg, it changes your entire world. I went in one day, hoping to get a quick breakfast, and what I got in return was the best Avocado toast I've ever had in my life. This place, hands down, serves fine dining meals, for very reasonable price, and mind you it's 2023, inflation has been going rampant. Every single item they have on menu is not only delicious, but it's presented to you in such a way that makes you stop and admire it for a second before you eat it. What they serve you is not food, it's art. I am really happy to be living nearby, and have a privilege to enjoy this place on a regular. I really hope that this place blows up and they get recognition they deserve. read more

Cafe Alma is such a gem in the neighborhood! From the moment you walk in, the warm and stylish decor makes you feel right at home. The location is convenient, and it has the perfect vibe whether you're stopping in for a quick coffee or sitting down for a meal. Their pastries are absolutely delicious--fresh, flaky, and so well-made that I always have a hard time choosing just one. In the past, the staff had always been very friendly, welcoming, and hardworking. Unfortunately, after what happened today, I will never come back to this place again. Here's what happened: I had some work I needed to get done and saw that the shop opened at 8:00 AM. Earlier that morning, I went to a different coffee shop and got a coffee. Around 8:20 AM, I decided to come back here to work, thinking I would get another coffee once I finished the one I already had. I sat down with the coffee I had purchased from the other coffee shop. A woman I had never seen before, who introduced herself as the general manager, (which I'm sure it's BS) approached me and, in what I felt was a very passive-aggressive tone, asked, "What can I get for you?" I told her that I was going to get another coffee when I finished the one I already had. (Literally had 2 sips left) She gave me a look and continued talking about it. I immediately said, "I'm sorry, you're right. What can I do? Do you want me to get another coffee right now?" For context, I worked as a barista for seven years, so I completely understand the etiquette. I understand that bringing in a drink from another coffee shop while sitting in your establishment can be considered rude, especially if I'm not purchasing anything. I had no problem being corrected, and I was willing to fix it immediately. I got up and ordered a black coffee from the shop. At that point, the conversation could have ended. I had acknowledged what I did, apologized, and purchased a drink. But she continued. While handing me my coffee, she continued lecturing me about how I shouldn't bring in a drink from another coffee shop. At this point, I was extremely frustrated because I had already apologized and had literally gotten up and purchased a coffee from her establishment. I finally said, "This is crazy. We do not have to have this conversation. I already bought the coffee." She then referred to herself by saying "I'm a crazy bitch." At that point, I was so irritated that I decided to just walk away and go back to my seat. I didn't want to continue the argument. But she continued across the cafe and goes off on me. She then said, "I can ask you to leave." I asked her, "Do you want me to leave?" She said, "LEAVE." So I left. I want to be clear: the outside coffee was never the issue. I understand the etiquette. I understood her concern, apologized, and immediately purchased a coffee. If she had simply said, "We don't allow outside drinks, but if you'd like to stay, please purchase something from us," I would have completely understood and there would have been no problem. What made this experience so awful was the unnecessary escalation after I had already complied. I have supported this business for a long time because I believe in supporting small businesses. I chose this place repeatedly over other coffee shops because I liked the people and wanted to support them. Unfortunately, one interaction completely changed that. I will not be returning to this coffee shop unless there is a significant change in management. I have never had a customer-service experience like this, and I don't believe any customer should be treated this way--especially after acknowledging their mistake, apologizing, and purchasing something from the business.
