I've actually been to Machu Picchu. Yeah, the real one up in the Andes. Now that was back in the day when I had more lung capacity to conquer the Inca Trail. Fortunately, there wasn't that headache-inducing elevation challenge in coming here, but it felt kinda remote to someone who doesn't make it to the Balboa Park station that often. It kinda felt like a hillside warming hut on the way to oh I dunno... Machu Picchu? The place was relatively cavernous with an eye-catching faux-cherry blossom tree smack in the middle (Photo 7). Interesting decorating choice. True to its name, they offer Peruvian coffee and specialties like empanadas and alfajores on their extensive menu. However, what caught my attention was the extensive sandwich selection. Feeling quite peckish that day, I decided to order the $16.25 Turkey Club Sandwich, which was a pretty hearty layering of deli turkey, crispy bacon, Swiss cheese, avocado, lettuce, onion, tomato, and mayo between slices of toasted sourdough (Photo 8). It worked. Super clean and cozy Cafe located right off the Balboa Park BART Station. Came in on a cold day and ordered a Chai Latte. You can tell there's alot of love poured into this place. The Chai Latte was delicious and fresh, it warmed me right up. They have lots of fresh pastries and empanadas. Since I was on my way home to study my school work, I didn't have time to try out their other items. Next time I will stop by again so that I can try out other things on their menu. But after going here a couple times, I noticed food is inconsistent with getting a croissant either burned or not at the best quality same as my matcha. Drove pass here millions of time. Never had the chance to come in. Met a friend after work to hang and talk here. Both of us have been meaning to come. If I'm not mistaken, Berto was the gentleman who served us. He is extremely nice. He helped take our order, explain what they have. The space is beautiful. Very well lite, with wide & huge windows, light shine in easily. Love their decorations around their blossom tree. My friend and I sat on the side with the leather res chairs. They're very comfy as well. I think lots of people come in for a quick coffee and pastry and leave since the cafe is right outside BART. My friend and I ordered both veggie & meat empanadas, Alfajores & drinks. Flavor and texture were amazing. The meat is a bit spicy which add a kick to it. We also ordered a Horchata latte, Inca soda & I forgot the name of it but it's a purple drink. Berto informed us Horchata latte is really sweet, but it was prefect for me. My teeth are sensitive, so any thing too sweet or sour or cold, I'm like Aaaahhhhhhh but the sweetness was prefect. The purple drink was very sweet, we had to deluded with some water. Alfajores was very soft, fell off very easy. Wasn't too sweet for me either to my surprise. The bathroom is very nice as well. Neutrel gender. Parking is street parking, 2 hours. Every Sunday, weekend, or especially on staycation, I been walking around my entire neighborhood. But if I go south from here, I know there's an interesting place that's near Balboa Park station, and it's a good place to share the juicier side. It's a whimsical café; it's Latin; it's Machu Picchu. Other than coffee/tea and pastries, there's empanadas. On certain days, there were limited amount of hot tamales. But most interesting, there's Chicha Morada, which was a hit-and-miss. I been so patient for several days until I finally have a nice familiar sip for one last time. A Latin barista told me if I have more ice in the Chicha Morada, it would give me additional fluid in flavor. It's true, because ice cubes can slowly melt, especially during warm hot days. Good for when I'm feeling bone dry of thirst. Hopefully I can find many new while strolling throughout my neighborhood; otherwise, I might go far and wide for one. Matcha comes with flavor options not on paper menu: coconut, vanilla, and passion fruit. Empanada comes with a sour cream pickle sauce. I was looking for a cafe that I was able to do work in and I stumbled across Manchu Picchu, very conveniently located right by Balboa Park Station! This cafe is really nice, with a beautiful faux tree in the center of the room and comfy chairs all around for you to chill or study. Most people that come in are either WFH or just enjoying their food / drinks quietly, although there is music that is playing from the speakers. I was on a WFH meeting and actually found that no one else could hear the music on the other side, which was great! Keep in mind that it's best if you have your own hot spot if you are WFH. The bathroom was also a single stall, very clean and nice, and they also had sanitary items for $0.25 from a vending machine inside the bathroom. In terms of drinks, I love a chai latte and this place exceeded my expectations! This will have to be my new favorite spot to get chai, where they had a perfect balance between the milk ratio as well as the chai, not being too spiced, but just a perfect amount. I did notice that if you pay cash it was slightly cheaper, so keep that in mind when you do come here! I also got a beef empanada and it was delicious. They warmed it up perfectly for me and brought it over to my table where I was working from and for my first time here, I would say I had an awesome experience! Super cute new cafe near Balboa Park BART station! They are serving some cafe usuals with some Peruvian inspired items. I only needed a matcha latte this time but the Peruvian coffee seems to be a must try for next time. I also got their Peruvian empanada (which comes in chicken or beef) and although a bit on the smaller side, it had a nice savory filling and came with a nice creamy/spicy sauce to dip. The is pretty new but once discovered - it's going to get packed. This is THE spot for beef empanadas. They're 5.50 each and I pick up 3 every visit so I can re oven at home. It you have to pick between any item on the menu - do yourself a favor and try the beef empanadas. Their mango Pom is fuegooooo. All the other drinks were pretty basic to me. If you're a foodie like me, I think you'll really enjoy this combo. The ambiance is also different which I like. It has ... character. Parking is difficult.
