I like this place because it's very cozy and homey. There are a couple of different rooms and an outside patio. It reminds me of how most coffee shops looked like in the city before Starbucks and 3rd wave became mainstream and everything needed a slick look. The food selection is larger with lavash wraps in addition to soups, salads, breakfasts and sandwiches. They also have beer. It can get quite a bit busy though, this is not a place to do work and hog a table that someone needs. Progressive Grounds is a reason to come to Bernal Heights.

Nice location with tons of room. There's a patio in the back to enjoy your coffee and the fresh breeze. Definitely a place to relax before getting the day started. Friendly service, you're instantly greeted as you walk in. A gem on courtland ave

We came early on a Saturday getting lattes and playing the crossword. The coffee was good, and they take cash to avoid credit card fees which is great. I think it would be a good place to WFH. The space is decorated soooo cozy and the back patio is stunning with lots of green plants. The tables had seating with comfy pillows so I am a big fan of the coffee shop vibe!

One of the neighbors asked me to meet them at this lovely location. I've been looking for an affordable comfortable yet intimate Café, and I had no idea what I was gonna come upon. Bernal heights is an adorable quaint neighborhood and it looks great. I hadn't been there in a couple years for sure. This place is charming Homie. Definitely has old-school charm. The staff are friendly and affable. Patient and treat each customer as their family. The offerings are simple and direct affordable and they serve people at a nice pace to be aware that sometimes there's peak moments in the rest of the time it's quite quiet. I ordered the egg and cheese on a croissant. The croissant was perfect. You could actually taste the cheddar it was nice and thick in the egg was light and fluffy and for the price it was a steel. My latte was nice and smooth and balanced. I love how they offered me one or two shots at the same price point regardless, and they had an easy check out they made the beverage quickly and handed it to me and then brought the sandwich to me and a beautiful cute tray with the napkin cut in half so it was easy to bite down and really taste an incredible croissant. Locals really love this destination. You hear a lot of Neighbor chatter. And it has a front and a back and a patio so we can accommodate small groups of people. I can't wait to go back and try some more fair but in the morning if I need a place to hunker down or to read, I think this is a really good choice for many people. this is the Hallmark of a neighborhood establishment people like to go there and gather and stay in. This is exactly what type of business this is. It is a hallmark of the neighborhood.

Always delicious and glad this place is still around after all these years. Good service too and nice places to sit like the back patio.

Great coffee and food. Love the atmosphere and the free, live Bluegrass music in the back room on the 4th Sunday afternoon of each month.

Bummer that they no longer allow studying on the weekends from 7 am to 2 pm. I won't be supporting this business anymore.

Ordered the coconut braised pig ear banh mi since I never seen that on any menu before. Enjoyed the flavors. Ordered the combo with the $3 Vietnamese coffee. Also got just a bread and shrimp spring rolls. Because the banh mi is big, it seems the filling isn't as substantial but the flavors were there. The shrimp roll was ok. Need to come back and try the pork. There is no beef that other places have. Mostly takeout but there are three small tables that sit two people each.

Ordering was easy, with multiple self-service kiosks available, or you can order at the register. We went with the cold cut bánh mì combo, which includes your choice of sandwich and a drink for just $10--a great value. They also offer a small discount if you pay with cash by avoiding the card surcharge, which was a nice bonus. Our food came out quickly, taking only about 10 minutes. Unfortunately, this is where the experience fell short for us. While the bread was soft and fluffy with a nice texture, the sandwich itself felt underwhelming. It wasn't as generously filled as a traditional bánh mì, lacking the layers of cold cuts, pâté, mayonnaise, and pickled vegetables that give the sandwich its signature balance of flavors and textures. The seasoning also leaned heavily on black pepper, which overpowered the other ingredients. Overall, the sandwich tasted one-dimensional and was missing the bright, fresh, and savory combination that we typically look for in a great bánh mì. Overall, we were disappointed given the strong reputation and positive reviews. While the combo offers excellent value, the sandwich didn't meet our expectations, and we likely won't be returning. We'd rather pay a little more for a bánh mì that offers better flavor, freshness, and a more satisfying filling.

Fear of Mission Out. The sandwiches are in high demand. The line on a Saturday that went from the intersection, around the fridge section, to the cashier took about 15 minutes and the sandwich took another 15. Both sandwiches were filling and fresh. We got hot ones with toasted bread. The couch potato with crispy pancetta was good, but American cheesier than expected. The preferable lemon pepper chicken sandwich was bright, flavorful, and tangy, with more dimension. I don't know if it's my favorite sandwich, but certainly top five. I give them five stars, however, because everyone was unpretentious and super nice, the sandwich artist is a machine, they have unique items, and they only charge $1.25 for a can of soda. As for the fresh chocolate chip cookies, my wife liked them. I didn't understand the hype. They were fudgey and doughy, so I guess if you like eating cookie dough you'll love them. We bought enough to have one as an appetizer and one for dessert.
