I'm going to be completely honest here. The wife was craving a burger and fries so we decided to stop and try this place out on our short vacation. Hands down, the best burger I've had in my life. And let me tell ya, I've had a butt load of burgers, but this burger was simply perfect and delicious. We've ordered here everyday since we had it and it doesn't disappoint. I rarely write negative reviews but this place was SO BAD. Do not come here. We sat at one of the tables outside by the street and the whole time loud cars and motorcycles were speeding by and spraying water (from the recent hurricane) in our direction. We should have moved inside but moving inside would not have made the food any better. I got the breakfast sandwich and basically refused to eat it. The scrambled eggs were the only good part. The bread was old and hard, there was like cold cuts ham on it and a piece of lettuce. My mom got the huevos rancheros and it was deep fried and tasted like it had ketchup on top of it. Both came with a side of potatoes and beans and the potatoes tasted like they were for a dinner entree with chicken. The whole situation was bizarre and just made me sad. Just really one of the worst meals I have ever had. Plus the inside of the restaurant looked disheveled and the bathrooms were awful. At least our server was nice. read more

April 1st, 2023 Day of disastrous dinner Cafe Arte was on our way between our lodging and town so we decided to stop there and check it out for dinner. Ambience - 1 Stars. Our party of 8 was seated on a picnic table on the street. Golf carts, scooters, trucks speeding by, kicking up dust, not very enjoyable. Service - 2 Stars. Servers were friendly, but took a while for them to take our order and different meals were served 15 minutes apart. Food - 1 Star. Wife and I ordered Flank Steak. (330 pesos $18 US) meat was undigestible. Very tough and chewy. We chewed on it and spit back onto the plate The meal was supposed to come with roasted potatoes, it came with rice. I questioned the waiter and he brought me fries. The worst part of the dinner is that my wife is sitting in our hotel room today with stomach pains close to the toilet which we attribute to the salad the observed later the cook was handling the meat and lettuce without any gloves or hand washing The burgers were flavorless and not cooked to order. Keep walking, the owner does not care what happens there. He plays dominos while the kitchen tries to cook. After I sent the mussels back as they were inedible, the admitted the new cook sucks. Wonderful! We had the mixed grill for two, so we sampled most of his grilled meats. It's a nice Change from traditional Mexican food. Lots of meats, grilled veggies, salad and fried potatoes. They automatically charged a 15% service fee without saying so or asking and then had the nerve to write "TIPS CASH ONLY" on the credit card receipt asking for more. There was also a 5% up charge for paying by card. I am all for supporting small/local businesses and tipping well, but in this case the somewhat mediocre and already overpriced food was made intolerable by grift. read more

Wonderful waiter Sebastian guided us through the meal an drinks effortlessly with a little knowledge of food and drink from the region. We had the guacamole, infused with tomato, onions and garlic, one of the very best ever. The mussels and garlic shrimp were outstanding. The mussels were perfectly roasted & adorned with aged balsamic and mango and onion. The shrimp were perfectly cooked with fresh roasted garlic and potatoes and a lovely spring mix salad with ginger dressing. The fresh baked bread with cilantro, lime cream sauce was a true delight. Stopped in for a quick bite. Very personable & nice service. We ordered a cheese quesadilla, caprese salad, chips & salsa. Caprese salad was a mixed green salad with some type of basil mixed with Italian seasoning & oil drizzled on it, cut up small cherry tomatoes & mozzarella cheese That is not a traditional caprese salad. The chips were tasty & authentic. The salsa was not very spicy, felt it was missing something. The cheese quesadilla was the best thing, but how can you mess that up?! While I appreciate that my server was attentive, the food was a big disappointment. There was a smell and taste on my pizza as if it had been moldy. For the prices they charge ...compared to places with similar menus...I expected more. They also snuck in a %15 included gratuity and it was a party of 1. Seemed to be presumptuous. Friendly staff who spoke excellent English, and great ambiance. Their wine selection was good, and their bread and dipping sauces were fresh and flavorful. Outside on their grill they had a smoked suckling pig that looked mouth watering, and tasted even better. I'm drooling thinking about it right now . Grabbed a togo dinner here after surfing and beach all day, because it was close to where I was staying. I asked what was good and the waiter recommended some BBQ. There was a grill outside, so it seemed logical. I wasn't too hungry, so he recommended the chicken. Was not impressed with the food. I would give a 2.5 if it were an option. Food was very hit or miss. But our server was friendly and accommodating and food was fast which is what we were looking for late night meal after arriving late to Sayulita. We were the only late night patrons and I must say that it is still a good rule of thumb that if a restaurant is mostly empty it's probably for a reason (especially when the one across the street is popping) and you may want to look elsewhere. A rundown of our meals: Chicken fajitas - 5 stars, in my opinion it was the best thing we ordered. Gnocchi - 4 stars. Good but not memorable. Fettuccine - 1 star. there seems to have been a mix up here. My mother just wanted a plain fettuccine and for some reason she got some seafood sauce with olives. NOT good. Guacamole - 5 stars. Really good! Flank steak meal - 3.5/4 stars. Ok but not as good as it should be. Mahi mahi - 2 stars. Just not good. Had a caper sauce on top that was trying too hard and didn't feel like a good fit for mahi mahi. They drop a weird sweet sauce all over the plate which then ruined the potatoes and fish because it doesn't pair well. I'll finish this by saying that they accept the dollar at 16 pesos per dollar when the actual exchange rate is $19 pesos. Seems a little ridiculous but I assume that's standard in a tourist town. This was food as Arte. The Mixed grill for 2 was by far the best formal meal we have had so far in Sayulita. The beef was flavorful, succulent. The chimmichurra sauce over the top, chicken tasty, juicy and baby back ribs. The grilled potatoes delicious mixed greens, tomato and avocado yummy. All for about $32.00 for two perfect margarita made w fresh lime. Sayulita Life is so rich for a poor mans budget. read more

Stopped by to eat on our way to the beach. Ended up coming back 4 times. They have a wide variety of food. The times we went ERIC was our server. He was very attentive and polite. Place was busy when we were there, but he still managed to bring our food and drinks out promptly. Ask for Eric to be your server. You won't be disappointed. I saw the bad reviews on service, but that was not our experience. We were not here during high season so maybe that made a difference but our service with Sebastion was fabulous. We had the mani-mahi caught that day and it was delicious as was the paella. Good margaritas too - although I don't know if there is a bad one in Sayulita. We came here for breakfast. The coffee was hot and strong, the fruit was fresh and sweet, and their homemade breads and sauces were delicious. Service was on par with Mexico. It was the perfect morning stop to start our day. read more

I got a lunch panini here a few times during my vacation in sayulita. The sandwiches are very good and are made with fresh ingredients. We really enjoyed them. They were pretty fast and brought out bread and sauce before hand. The waiter was also very nice. I got the caprese sandwich which was very good. I would recommend it. This place is a good way to get away from Mexican food if you're sick of it and is relatively cheap and easy. read more

Well I tried it even though I read the reviews. I didn't have the service issue. I got something a lot worse. I paid a lot of pesos to get food poisoning. In stead of surfing all day. This restaurant is a disaster. Despite the good live music during our January 1 attempted dinner, I have never seen service this bad. I mean really bad. Our group of 4 spent 2+ hours of time in this restaurant - and never received any food. It took 1 hour for them to take our order. After another hour of waiting on food they told us there were several orders before ours. We all walked out of this restaurant at 10:30 at night - hungry and aggravated. I would not eat or drink here if it was the last place on earth. The waiter was extremely snooty and rude when we asked for clarification on the bill. We only ordered 7 beers and 1 lemonade and they included a 15% gratuity on the bill and when I asked about it...he got extremely rude and said..."what is so hard to understand...that is the price with the gratuity." All we were asking is if it was included...so yelpers beware, the total price at the bottom of their janky receipt is the price WITH the gratuity included. Worst service ever. Took only 5 minutes for our drink order but took another 15 minutes to deliver the drinks. Ordered BBQ chicken, asked for breast meat, left and came back to say only thigh and legs left. So we ordered a Chicken dinner and Pizza. Never saw the waiter for over 30 minutes. Finally he came out and gave us a breadboard with 6 pieces of bread and a shot glass of liquid to dip the bread in. Gone for another 20 minutes. He then comes out and delivers two tine pieces of greasy chicken and the pizza. No veggies and potatoes which is supposed to come with it. He says he will get that right away... 15 more minutes, I ate the greasy chicken and we ate the pizza. The waiter comes out and asks if we would like the check. I ask about my potatoes and veggies and he says, Oh, you still want those? It was unbelievable. That is the single worst service I have ever had in any restaurant worldwide. I just want to go so I tell him to skip the potatoes and veggies. Out comes the check and he charged us full price (150 pesos) for the chicken dinner. Clueless. I was so tired I just paid and left. This place is desperation in its finest. Do not bother. We went last year and enjoyed steaks - at a price that matched top notch Portland steak houses ($30!) and it was mediocre. On a whim we thought we'd try it again. Mis-Steak. We went again this year and got the mixed grill. It showed up at our table 5min later...it was pre-cooked and tough at the soles of a local surfer. The salad caprese had a generous 4 slices of a roma tomato with 4 slices of cheese...on top of romaine lettuce. The only thing I can say was the ceasar salad was OK. They charged a mandatory 10% minimum tip onto the bill... I normall tip more, but this was a first for us in Sayulita....which basically told me that my experience with their Arte was over. There are so many other better and cheaper options in Sayulita. (We've been coming annually to Sayulita for 8years and know the dining scene relatively well) I'd be surprised if this place will be here next year...given how empty it was. read more

We've eaten here a couple of times and our experience was the same both times. Our server was pleasant and competent. Our drinks came quickly with delicious bread and a variety of salsas. We both had mahi-mahi, which was fresh and perfectly cooked with a crisp tasty salad on the side. Nothing to complain about here. Perhaps it is not the cheapest place in town, but it's still pretty cheap by our standards--less than half what it would cost back home in the U. S. read more
