We got sat and the waitress for some reason maybe profiled us and decided to take drink orders and food and never come back. Not to check how our apps were, if we needed refills, how's the food, do we want dessert. Nothing. we had more interactions with the runner. I saw her with other tables smiling and being attentive. Her name was Melanie. The manager had the audacity to tell me that other servers were attending us. The place wasn't busy!! And no servers ever attended us. I would really think twice about going there. Not only is the good bland but the service was horrendous. One of my favorite Italian restaurants in NY! The taste and quantity of the food and the overall service are superb. I have been here at least 5 times over the last 4 years and have never been disappointed. My favorite items are: 1) Lobster Ravioli: highly recommended, very creamy and delicious, tons of flavor packed into every bite 2) Spaghetti Seafood: a classic that is made very well here 3) Penne Saproite: great combo with chicken, spinach and their delicious Vodka sauce I also enjoyed the Salmon Rosato, and Fusilli Formale. Their garlic and pizza break is complimentary, and irresistible. Their fried calamari appetizer is made very well and it has excellent flavor and texture. Their portions are HUGE! It's crazy how much you get for the price. I've never even been close to finishing a pasta dish here. I leave super full with tons of leftovers. The service has always been good. It's a beautiful place. But horrible food. Ordered baked clams, I used to manage and Italian restaurant - these clams had to be at least a week old, and the breadcrumbs were soggy. We left a plate full, and nobody even noticed until another server asked if there was an issue. They have no one running the floor and doing table touches to ensure food and service is running smoothly. The food is most definitely not fresh. The service is absolutely horrible and management absolutely has no idea what they're doing. Poor place. The food is really tasty here and the portion sizes are great. Also, the bread is delicious. The negative is that they don't take reservations and it can be really crowded, especially on weekends. COVID precautions - The tables are kinda spread apart. They were quite busy and a lot of parties sitting down. They tried their best with what they have. - I love that they wrap their utensils in plastic and have individual set ups. - All the waiters/servers are masked up. - They have hand sanitizers as soon as you walk inside the door. FOOD: - First comes the complimentary pizza bread. The breads seems pretty simple, but it's kind of addicting because the bread itself is so soft to eat and melts in your mouth. We had to ask for a 2nd serving for the table. - They serve LARGE portions. It's not just a big plate with a small portion of pasta. The plate is fully packed with pasta. It's very hard to eat everything by yourself. But thankfully, there's always an option to pack it home. - They have a good variety of options. All of which seems great. They have some unique options as well. It seems like Penne Saporite is quite a popular option. But I had Trittico al Bacio, which was very filling with three different types of pasta and typical tomato sauce. Overall, I loved my experience here. He asked me what I wanted to order before asking me if he could get me a drink... really? Anyway I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. It comes with no side salad unless you order a 15 dollar full salad. I opted for a side of spinach for 9 dollars. I got a pound of under sauced over cooked Angel hair. My friends and I had a belated Christmas lunch at Cafe Baci and were very disappointed. I ordered chicken francese with spaghetti. The chicken was very salty and swimming in butter. The spaghetti was covered in too much marinara sauce. For dessert I ordered a Napoleon....which was anything but. My friends ordered Chicken Paesan, which had to be sent back because it was too salty. I should have sent mine back as well, instead of suffering through it. Most Italian restaurants simply serve bread and butter, but this place gives extremely soft fluffy pizza bread, so flavorful, light, and delicious! The Cappelini balls for appetizer were so good for the price and the sauce was a great complement with the balls. The two pastas were also delicious and definitely more family style. We used to frequent Baci but have not been there in a couple of years. Sorry I didn't take any pictures of the food but the portions are still very large. We came for an early dinner on Monday night. There was plenty of parking and the restaurant had a nice crowd. We were seated immediately which was nice. We decided to share the pear salad and the penne saporite. Both dishes were very large, the pear salad was fresh and light we both really love the dressing. The penne saporite was well prepared and flavorful however it was a bit too cheesy for me but my husband enjoyed it. Always a great experience going to Cafe Bacci the staff and ownership are always wonderful and the food is as consistent as any restaurant. We arrived early actually prior to opening time and were allowed in a bit early which was nice. Anyone who has ever dined here knows their bread basket is amazing no one does it the way they do I can't even describe it tbh. The baked class here are as good as you will get anywhere and I highly recommend them. There is always a nice selection of wine to choose from and as far as the entrees go there menu is extensive. I love the Eggplant Parmigian but today I ordered the Mama mi one of their best imo it's a portion of Lasagna, Chicken Parmigian and meatballs to most your taking some home after the apps and bread but I did finish lol. Spectacular food and humongous portions at Cafe Baci. The bread, for starters, is delicious and I literally could not get enough of it! For appetizers, we had the burrata which was creamy and delicious and paired wonderfully with the tomatoes peppers and toasted bread. As my main, I had tortellini in vodka sauce and my friend had rigatoni vodka and both were cooked to perfection and incredibly tasty - as well as enough for two meals. I've been going to Baci for more than 15 yrs, I love their food and drinks. I take family when they come in town and want good food. Their mussels and calamari are delicious. This has been my go-to Italian restaurant in Long Island and I've decided to get out of my Fusilli Formale comfort and go for the gnocchi but with the spinach cream sauce. The dish was okay, I was expecting a more savory taste in the gnocchi verde, but was greeted with a hint of sweetness instead. But can adjust salt taste with table salt. I chose to adjust with more shredded parmesan cheese instead and it did the job. Mamma Mia had great firmness to it and the lasagna was also delicious. Meatballs were alright. The service is not so good (everyone knows you don't serve soup and main course at the same time) but the waitress had the most beautiful smile I ever seen. The food is okay unless you know what the real thing should taste like. I ordered a grilled panini with prosciutto and mozzarella cheese: the bread was slightly toasted but the food inside was cold, to make things worse they substituted prosciutto with ham. Sad to say this used to be one of my favorite places. I was planning to bring my sister and brother in law here but after today's dining experience , I'll pass. First issue was with the glass of white wine that looked like a piece of the cork in the wine. Our server changed the glass of wine and wouldn't you know what she brought back to my wife also had a piece of the cork in the glass. Then we asked the server to take it back and take it off the bill. Then the silverware was dirty so we asked for another spoon. Our server came over several times but never refilled our water or directed anyone else to check if we wanted more water. Diner was ok but tiramisu for dessert was frozen so our server took that off our bill. Just a bad experience overall. Guess this place is not on my top ten places for Italian food anymore. read more

I ordered the Penne Saporite, which I usually always get. I've tried almost everything on the menu. Everything's excellent. My wife tried the Scampi Portofino for the first time. She's always a bit indecisive so she decided to give this a go. Oh my.... Goodness. It was DELICIOUS! I loved that garlicky, white wine sauce with a hint of lemon zest & juice in that dish. Man.... To DIE for! Also, as always... my favorite part of this experience is... THE BREAD!! Idk what they put in it... it's PERFECTLY moist & tasty. Almost like a pizza bread. So good. If you ask for more, which I always do, they're usually nice about it & get you another basket free of charge. The portions are large, to be honest. So if you wanted to share an entree & try other things on the menu like a pizza or a salad/appetizer, that would be wise. Overall, my wife and I LOVE this place. I came here for my uncle Juan's surprise 70th birthday party for a Sunday brunch and we had a great time. The manager let me set up a prefixed menu before the event and she created a personalized menu for us with a birthday greeting for uncle juan. He was so happy and surprised. The service was great and the food was incredible. They accommodated our needs and even stored the cake for us which was nice. My only complaint is that we told them the size of the party and they said we will all sit together. When we got there the party was separated into two tables that weren't close enough together. They specialize in the Pink Vodka sauce and really all the dishes came out perfect!!! Including the amazing Calamari appetizer, their salads were very good and fresh! I would highly recommend this business, also their staff was very nice and friendly and did their best to provide great service even though we were a huge party! Their lobster dish was the best of the ones i tried! But more importantly their desserts!!!! The Napoleon and Tiramisu are both made in house!!! Very light and fluffy Napoleon!!! Loved it!!! My friend had been recommending this place for the longest and we always seem to overlook it. Well I'm really happy that we finally got around to try it. We called to make a reservation, when we arrived we were seated immediately. The hostess was really sweet and friendly. Then our waiter brought out bread and menus. He came back in the right amount of time to check in on us and take our orders. Food: the flat bread pizza was superb, the crust was delicious. The chicken parmigiana dish is ridiculously huge and can totally feed two people, I'm absolutely love their sauce! My father ordered a seafood dish which I didn't get to try but he loved it, coming from a man who worked in an Italian restaurant for over 15 years I have to trust him. The portions are gigantic (one pasta is good for 2-3 meals :), the service is always friendly, and the ambiance is nice and dim. Their pizza bread is delish, but try not to fill up on that! It's hard not to though... I got the scampi Portofino last time I was there and I loved it. It wasn't too heavy tasting with the shrimp, chicken, and grape tomatoes. The shrimp were large too; I don't like when restaurants give you those tiny lil shrimps lol. REALLY POOR SERVICE . Our beverages arrived promptly and our starters arrived in about 20 minutes. After receiving the starters, we initially saw the waitress a few times but after about another 20 minutes she disappeared. It wasn't for another 20 minutes that we would see her again. She came over to our table to say that she had checked up on our meal and that it was taking longer than usual because "the soup was cold and they needed time to reheat it". What a lame excuse. After nearly an hour, we finally received our food. This is really a 4.5 review. Food is consistently good especially if you don't just fill up on the yummy bread that comes out first. I miss the pasta with mushroom dish I always got (pasta funghi). Last time we got chicken Marsala and it was great and a huge portion. Service is good and again very consistent. Ambiance is just fine. This place is a bit dated inside. It isn't dirty or anything but it really needs an update. Some places get away with not updating. It adds charm, this just feels like a really bad 90's remodel that aged badly. This establishment has been around the neighborhood for man years on that very busy corner of Old Country Road and Merrick Avenue. I think that I ended up passing by it more times than I can remember and it always seem like a very high end place to me. Nowadays I have been eating less around Long Island but recently a friend of mine had eaten at this restaurant and had good things to say about it. The reservation slots for this particular establishment tend to close up rather quickly, due in part to the restricted indoor dining capacity and its popularity as this place is very highly rated. They have their own parking lot which is a convenient thing if you are traveling in your own vehicle. **Regarding COVID precautions, all the staff wears masks, tables are separated by dividers, each table top is cleaned after use and has a disposable table cloth, all utensils are plastic wrapped with a QR Code for contactless access to the menu. When I walked in to the waiting area, there was a very elegantly dressed lady dealing with checkins and the FOH but she was busy on the phone. That was understandable as this is a popular restaurant. I was not waiting too long when a gentleman in a full suit who was sitting at the bar approached me and asked me if I was all right. His name was Steve and he looked to be part of the management team. He confirmed my reservation and had me wait for a moment. He asked me if I preferred bar seating or wanted a table. I was willing to wait for a table and I was very appreciative to be given the option. I was fortunate enough to get a nice corner seat which offered a certain amount of privacy and a good distance from other patrons. The entire restaurant itself is very very spacious. The bar is one of the first thing customers see as they enter. It can seat many people on one side of the restaurant. The other areas have tables that can seat at least 4 people and have dividers. My actual server was a very pretty young lady name Brittany who was very courteous, energetic and helpful. She gave me some time to decide what do order. The menu I had taken a quick look at beforehand and the choices were quite overwhelming. My friend who had eaten there previously was very pleased with her food and had no issues with service so I felt that anything i picked would be a good choice. For starters, I decided on mussels with garlic sauce as it was something light yet savory. It has been quite sometime since I ordered mussels and they did not disappoint. For my entree, I was going to go with a classic pasta dish but I went with one of their specialty dishes called the Mamma Mia. It contains a trio of popular Italian dishes (lasanga, chicken parmagiana and meatballs) so you get a little bit of everything. When the dish came to the table, I was floored as it was more food than I expected. The portions for each course were very generous. Steve came by to check and warned me that people end up not finishing the dish. The busboys came around to regularly to clear plates off the table and I asked one of them to pack the remainder of the Mamma Mia go to. I managed to eat a good portion of the food (mussels were just an appetizer) but wanted to save room for dessert. I had perused that portion of the menu previously and they offer some very delicious options. This is where my awesome server Brittany was a tremendous help since it was my first time dining there. I asked her what her favorite dessert was and she spoke highly of the Fudge Brownie Sundae and the Tiramisu. Those were two tempting options from the way she described them and made it very difficult to decide. The only thing to do was to order both of course. The plating for each dessert was quite impressive as they both came to the table simultaneously. The sundae was topped with vanilla ice cream, caramel, chocolate syrup, walnuts and whipped cream. I did not want the ice cream and other ingredients to go to waste so I made it a point to finish this particular dessert first. The Tiramisu was a beautiful square cut classic consisting of lady fingers, espresso, marscapone and cocoa. The slice was moist and fluffy. I had a few bites only and took the rest to go. Solid dessert recommendations from my server. Cafe Baci is a place that I would highly recommend to go eat with friends, family or a date. The ambiance is quite nice with their choice of music as well as the decor. Customer service was tops and the food choices are plentiful. Brittany checked on me often, and the manager Steve came around as well even though he may have been busy. Food portions are HUGE, so definitely share or do family style if you don't think you can eat the whole thing. The only person who finished his dish at my table was the guy who can easily eat a whole pizza on his own. Service was great and I liked the table bread (the pizza bread is the best). I ordered the tortelloni amore and despite it being a huge dish, I actually didn't like the sauce very much or the chicken in the dish (it was very plain). I didn't even make it halfway thru the dish and I took it home, but I probably won't eat it. I just feel bad because I spent a lot on the dish and my waitress recommended it, but I didn't really like it. It was supposed to be in a vodka sauce (which I usually love), but I didn't like this one. Food was good, but besides the pizza bread I don't think I loved anything specific.
