I struggled with if I should write a review or not, and decided after 1 week, I needed to write this review. First off, let me start by saying the food at Cafe Baci is good. I've been here twice and in previous visits, my party and I were happy with the food and service. Enough so, we decided that for my brother's birthday we'd celebrate and have dinner here. I called the night before (Friday) for reservations for Saturday at 6:30pm. Originally the girl told me they don't take reservations. I told her we were a party of 13. She turned to her manager, and I heard him say - that's fine. He'll hold a table for us. I said, "Great" and "Thank You" ...BUT they didn't take my name. So the next day, I called them at 1pm to confirm that they were holding at table for us. I gave them my name and reconfirmed it was a party of 13 for 6:30pm. The manager replied "Yes, please be sure your party gets here by 6:30pm". GREAT! Since I knew they had limited parking, I asked my party to get there before 6:30pm. Most of my party got there at 6:15pm. Note: my family drove in from Flushing - 40 minute drive for them. So, I checked in. The girl at the front seemed confused. I told her we spoken to a manager, and she reiterated they didn't take reservations. Grrr. In any case, she said they're waiting for a big party to leave, and then we can get seated. 30 minutes later...NOTHING. I went back in a few times, and they said...still waiting for that table to leave, but they've been given a check. 7:45pm, went back in, and I voiced frustration that complained if it was going to take this long, they should have told us that the wait was going to be over an hour! All they say was "Sorry, we're doing our best". By 8:00pm, still nothing. So we just left, and went to the Mediterranean restaurant next door, who tooked us in right away. Which btw, has great food and were very nice. Net, net... if you have a large party, don't go to Cafe Baci. Horrible experience. How do you make 13 people wait over an hour for a table...and NOT tell them that it was going to be that long. In my party, we had my 75 year old parents and my 4 year old nephew. If they had said to me, "Sorry, we don't have a table for you now, and it will be at least an hour wait. Do you mind waiting?", then at least my party and I could have made a choice to stay or leave. But they did not give us that choice. Instead they made us think we were going to be seated soon. This is POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Could we have left earlier? Yes! But we were told, that the other table would be leaving soon. I had even suggested, if they needed to break us up in different tables, we'd be fine with that. They said they'd ask the manager. But he never came out to talk to us. Also want to note, they had 4 tables free, that they had said was reserved for a wedding rehearsal dinner that looked to seat 25, and couldn't seat us there...which was next to the table they were waiting to leave. Those tables were empty for at least 30 minutes- no exaggeration. We could very well have finished eating by the time that party arrived. So, although I have no complaints over their food- they are getting 1star for poor customer service., which I think is generous for this situation. read more

3.5 stars Finally came here with my husband after deciding to make the trip to LI from Brooklyn to go shopping at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's and wanted to have an adult meal without the baby while running errands. It was bustling on Tuesday afternoon around lunchtime. Though we were seated right away, there was no lunch menu offered this particular day. There is complimentary bread offered that was like focaccia, but not exactly - had sauce and some pieces of onions. After seeing a few things on the menu we wanted to try, we settled on the Saporite (chicken, spinach, vodka sauce and melted cheese) and the Lobster Ravioli. It's hard to find a good one, but I took my chances. Honestly, it was really just cheese ravioli with shrimp and vegetables on top. I was not impressed by them, but the sauce was good and the shrimp and vegetables worked so even though it was 6 pcs for $28, the toppings left me full after I was done. My husband thought his Saporite was okay also, good, but not like amazing, but it did hit that yummy hot pasta feel. I tried some and it was good, but something about it felt commercial. For drinks I ended up getting a strawberry lemonade that they use strawberry puree for, though it looked like pink coloring, but it was good and exactly what I wanted. Overall the service was fine, our waitress was serving a lot of tables so she was more in and out, but overall everything was fine. I'm thinking the main draw is the large portions that can be packed up (but not the lobster ravioli). I would come back to try something else before making any finals decisions :) read more

Upon arriving I witness a very unprofessional exchange between the manager a a customer because the kitchen was backed up and she basically told him to deal with it. The waitress was so sweet. We waited 20 minutes for bread yet the manager hand delivered bread to her important customers by the bar. We waited 1 hour for our food and the manager spoke to the table behind us who arrived 30 minutes after us to tell them that their order would be longer then expected and the people left yet she do not talk to me whom had been sitting there for an obscene amount of time prior to them arriving. I don't believe that people Who are nasty, care little about customer service and get frustrated easily should not be in these positions. Came here on a Saturday evening, arrived a little after 5 and it was already hopping. Only a few tables left so we had no wait. They sat us in a table in the rear next to a window, a nice touch, felt private. We did not order apps because they always give you large portions. For dinner I ordered the Chicken Paesano, Chicken, Sweet Suasage, Potatoes and String Beans in a brown sauce, a large portion and awesome. My wife had the Penne Saporite, my brother-in-law and his wife had the Chicken Parmigiana and Shrimp Parmigiana. We all brought half our portions home. I really loved the ambiance of Cafe Baci. Walked in and felt like I was about to dine in a beloved restaurant. It was absolutely bustling, full of happy people eating. You can't help but notice when a place just gets the feel right. Ultimately, 4 stars instead of 5 because I didn't love the food. It wasn't really flavorful and was very heavy on the bread. For pasta lovers who don't like a lot of seasoning or intrigue in dishes this is probably great, but for me, meh. I kept adding salt and pepper to my dishes which is actually unusual for me. I just feel like there's way better Italian out there. The most flavorful was the rigatoni vodka. The milanese can be skipped. I also don't understand the allure of the bread they serve to the table - I found it soggy and blah - but some folks in my family are obsessed. Oh, last thing - the parking sucks. Wow what a great meal at Cafe Baci! I used go with my family when I was younger. I haven't been in over a decade but I will 100% be back. I had been wishy washy on where to go then decided I wanted to have an Italian feast. Baci definitely delivered. The interior is warm and inviting. We started with the bread and fried calamari. The bread is soooo good almost like Sicilian pizza with no cheese. The fried calamari was good. It came out the same time as our pastas which the server was super apologetic about but we didn't mind. Bae had the tortelloni amore and I had the ravioli Verdi -- I loved that it was a spinach cream sauce instead of pesto. Both of our pastas were soooo rich and delicious. We have been coming here for years. Last night we were there for 3 hours! We were seated right away but service was SOOOO slow. They kept forgetting stuff and 2 of our group ordered the special and after almost an hour of waiting for entrees the waiter announced that they were out of the specials and had to reorder. We were there with kids and the kids meals came out last. Plain spaghetti and a pizza. The were so tired and hungry. Also, the bathrooms were a mess. It was a terrible experience all around. All time Favorite! This is a local Italian restaurant to me and we absolutely LOVE IT! This has been our go to restaurant for Italian food for a few years now. Ambience is not chic or upscale, but it's not terrible either. It offers really comfortable dining, service is among and food is DELICIOUS! We love their baked clams, and almost all their pastas (we haven't tried all just yet). Each pasta dish is served family style. Desert is delicious and you can't go wrong with any option! When I tell you I love this place I do! I was in town and wanted to eat at one of my fav Italian restaurants. The service is great and on point every time. Prices are so reasonable. The bread for the table is so good. I love the zucchini and you get a huge portion. I order the famous mama mia. I had a raspberry lemon drop which was so good! My daughter had a Moscow mule. They no longer do reservations Friday to Sunday unless it is 8 ppl or more I believe. Reservations can be made Monday to Thursday. Came in for lunch and their lunch menu was Not available this particular day. The bread basket was deliciously soft and had the texture of a garlic knot. I probably had too many and spoiled my appetite from how good they were! We shared the calamari which wasn't anything special but a heaping portion of them. Then we had the rigatoni bolognese which was creamy, flavorful, and big serving enough to take home! Finally we ended it with a tiramisu which was like 2hx4lx4w aka huge! Cafe Baci never disappoints! I haven't been there in a while. I used to order the cavatappi ala vodka all of the time for lunch years ago and that dish still tastes the same. It is so good! The pizza bread is still my favorite, so very yummy. The eggplant panini is also a great choice for lunch! I tried something different for the first time and I highly recommend it, the rigatoni bolognese, yum! I haven't had a better bolognese yet, this is definitely my favorite. I was also able to add burrata to it for just $5 more, and that made me so happy, and made this dish more GREAT! Also I just have to say that the staff is so polite. The interior has comfortable seating and warm lighting creating a vibe that says "stay a while." Once seated you're met with cheese bread. The service here is friendly and efficient. The Chicken Parmigiana is a solid choice... well-executed, but don't expect any surprises. On the other hand, the Penne Saporite is a standout dish. It has a creamy vodka sauce generously layered with cheese, spinach, and chicken. One of Baci Cafe's strengths seems to be its vino selection- easily. Saw this place a few times while driving by the area, and the outside seemed a bit weird; a quirky retro look from the 70s disco era vibe. But curiosity got the best of me and my significant other and we decided to give it a shot. I guess this is why they tell you to not judge a book by its cover because the food was on point. The bread that came in the beginning was phenomenal and we ate almost all of it. First time visit as a participant of an office party. Food portions were large. My eggplant parmigiana was excellent. Their tomato sauce is sweet, which I prefer over salty recipes. Service was attentive even though we were a large party. Seating is open, so not private, but it was not too loud and we were able to hear everyone at our table. Baci is my sister-in-law's favorite Italian restaurant on Long Island, so I've had a chance to try most of the menu. For me, Baci's tomato and marinara sauces are its weak spots. Five minutes down the road, Mama Theresa's has a zesty, flavorful sauce that makes Baci's almost bland and pastey in comparison. For a classic dish like chicken parmigiana, it's the difference between being luscious and okay. Their fra diavolo sauce is pretty good. I usually keep it around for the rest of the meal. Baci's star is its pink/vodka sauce. The Rigatoni Vodka always hits but pasta alone isn't a very hardy dish. I think the pink cream sauce is why so many Yelpers mention the lobster ravioli, but the lobster is slight and the dish is mostly about the cream--it's watery and not my favorite. Good: Moody lighting, decor glitzy without being tacky, portions big enough for two days, waters were always full, service is good, and maitre d always makes the rounds Not as good: Club music doesn't fit the mood, tile floor felt slimey, bathroom line feeds into a busy intersection, parking spills over into neighbor lots too, long waits to enter (no reservations for family-sized parties) with little indoor room to wait during the winter months read more
