Excellent service. Came in about half an hour before close and was the only one there. Tea was prepared exactly as ordered, quickly and efficiently. Didn't really see any place where I'd want to sit down, there was a lot of stuff around. Difficult to determine exactly where to order and counter was full. This is a small business with one of the lowest prices I've seen for food and drinks. My total after getting a chai latte and sandwich was 17$. The area inside doesn't have much seating inside but there are also tables outside. Very cozy and quiet. There is wifi. Chester, the owner is very friendly and has definitely built a community with his customers. This cafe was hit by the pandemic and had to drop a few employees but still keep their prices startling low at 4.50 for a "small" drink that still serves as a medium as well as sandwiches under 10$. I would come again if in the area. read more

Cafe Bean is Rick's Cafe and Chester is Humphrey Bogart casually dressed. Every coffee, ever drink and every sandwich is important to him. He may not be super fast but he is super careful and interested in your satisfaction. He can tell give you better directions than Google Maps. The regulars are an interesting crew and friendly too. A more diverse group I hav not encountered. In a city full of chains Cafe Bean is one of a kind. Four small tables outside and three tables and a tiny bar inside. The two bus stops in front of the Bean. Leisurely fun. read more

Bianca the woman who used to own the cafe bean was wonderful. It's been years and I still miss her friendly personality and a wonderful coffee she used to serve. When the new people took over I knew from the first time I walked in I wouldn't be coming back very rude and unfriendly. A friend of mine accidentally walked in there because he got confused about where we were going to meet. He said it was just like a hoarders dirty Paradise. I had to check for myself so I went in a few days later and I had to leave right away it was very impressive I don't know when the last time the health department was there. There are two other coffee shops within a block and a half that are wonderful the Cozy Cafe and morning fix fresh food courteous service wonderful places to enjoy a breakfast or lunch read more

I love stopping into this little gem of a cafe, it's like a treasure trove of collectibles and games as well as a little time capsule. I love swinging by for a quick bite or drink whenever I'm in the Lower Nob area running errands or looking for a place to do some work quietly. Unlike most popular cafes in the city that are jam packed with people all chatting or clacking away on their laptops, it's been a nice change of pace to have a sparse few customers pass in and out of this cafe while working at the window bar seat that overlooks an equally quiet street. The owner Chester is a very friendly man who makes for good conversations between bites, sips, and work. He's got a great memory for all his customers, so don't be surprised if he starts to recognize you after one or two visits! I'm still going through trying different menu items, but I would highly recommend the chorizo breakfast sandwich (if and when it's back) and the breakfast pancake sandwich, which is a nice combination of sweet and savory. So far, nothing has not suited my tastebuds here, and I love how fast the service is as well. In terms of price, it's for sure one of the most affordable cafes in the city, you really get your money's worth in food and drink (for example, a medium sized espresso drink is most shop's large)! I want to recommend this place to others who would like to try a unique cafe different from the modern, sparsely decorated cafes all over the city and especially to those who are a bit dorky over superhero collectibles and games, like myself. At the same time, I want to keep this cafe a secret to myself, but I feel I owe Chester this much for providing such a lovely workspace and for being so attentive all the time. :) Also if you get food and drink to go, Chester is great at modifying the runny eggs in his breakfast sandwiches so that you can still enjoy the moistness of the egg oozing over the sandwich, but without them being so runny that they spill all over you on the road. Love this coffee shop! Small, charming, quirky, quiet, friendly owners, indoor and outdoor seats, and of course, reliable bevs (iced dirty chai, for me). All nearby parking is street parking (save for one parking garage) but I'm usually able to find parking 1 block up on Bush (not metered). This cafe has been in the community for nearly 20 years and feels very much like a "mom and pop" cafe (their owner will make actual conversation with you while making your drinks, and you may even spot their tiny elder pup doing his rounds). If you're looking for a sterile antisocial chain cafe, this is not the place for you, but if you're open to a friendly and eclectic "hole in the wall" cafe, conversation, and supporting a small business and staple in the Lower Nob Hill community, give Cafe Bean a visit! read more

Café Bean is my favorite neighborhood spot in lower nob hill. Chester, the business owner, makes the BEST Mexican Mocha that I've had in SF. Cafe Bean is not at all what you see in the pictures. We were shocked when we walked into the stuffy and dirty looking space. The man and woman who run the place were very pleasant, so I feel a little bad about the 2 star review, but the place seemed dirty and was full of clutter. A dirty looking dog was roaming around the small space. Seemed like multiple health violations may be occurring here. There was only enough room for one party to sit, as the big table was covered with dusty junk. The bagels were dry and tasteless and the cream cheese was horrible and pasty. The limited seating outside was taken by a man smoking weed the whole time and an unhoused woman around the corner was begging for food. Huge mistake bringing my teen son and niece here on our vacation. I wish the owners luck in getting their business together, but I would never go back or recommend it to anyone. read more

Going to Cafe Bean is the highlight of my week! The owner, Chester, is super friendly; you'll want to become a regular just to catch up. More than that, the variety he offers in coffees, teas, and beyond is extensive. I was in Sanfran with my girlfriend for a festival when I stumbled upon this home away from home. The owner was so accommodating and made us feel very welcomed. The coffee and the food was delicious and fairly priced. We were recovering from an eventful night and Chester even offered us some eucalyptus oil to ease our symptoms. You dont really see that kind of hospitality or level of empathy anymore so we gave him a homemade flower crown to show our appreciation We'll be sure to stop in whenever we are in town again. read more

The service is wonderful - immediately developed a fun rapport with the group as soon as I started coming in for my coffee stops. This is important to me. The ambiance - fun and filled with visuals that make this place unique and enjoyable to be around. Inside and outside seating (outside terrace available) which is great for cold or warm weather. This place is a bit strange but not in a bad way, just a lot to take in at first. They have a lot of things for sale, as well as a lot of trinkets hanging around. Their coffee isn't anything special, but it isn't bad either. I didn't get the chance to try their food, though. If you are disturbed by dogs inside establishments, I'd steer clear of here. I personally don't mind, I think the dog was pretty cute, but she (?) did seem to be a bit of a distraction to the owner. Service, other than that, was fine. read more
