The menu and photos on Yelp were enticing...enough for us to have our first meal out since the pandemic. We sat indoors. It was super cold inside. (Maybe they had the air-conditioning on? But it was 55 degrees outside!) Service was super slow; it took about 40 minutes to get our meal after ordering our food. Food was mediocre, to say the least. I ordered the beef shwarma melt. The beef was overcooked and dry. The fries were so-so. My husband ordered the falafel pita plate. Nothing special. No real flavor to either of our dishes. The tahini could've had more garlic and lemon; it was too bland. It took what seemed like forever to get our bill and then to have her bring it back for us to sign. Needless to say, we won't be returning. Three stars because the owner was nice, even if she wouldn't recommend which flavor bellini to order. read more

This café opened after the shelter in place started and I have been feeling bad for their timing. I finally got in to try lunch today and everything was wonderful. We had fresh squeezed orange juice and a mint tea and they were both fresh as promised and delightful. We also had a lamb and beef euro which was excellent with a side of fruit, and the Shawarma nachos with chicken which is a huge portion and very tasty. It is a interesting mash up of Mediterranean, California cuisine, and a dash of Mexican food influence. I reserved a table for me and a friend on Saturday afternoon. When we got there, I realized reserving wasn't necessary because it was mostly empty. Hostess gave us choice of a table, and we chose one of tables outside on the patio. I wish I had taken pictures because the tables and patio were really nice and made for a relaxed, comfortable lunch perfect for a spring or summer day. I ordered Baba ganoush(?) which was delicious. After we paid our bill we walked through the restaurant to get back out to the parking lot and discovered that in the time it took us to eat, the entire restaurant had filled up with patrons. Great lunch spot. We were heading north and looking for a nice stop to have a non-fast food lunch, with outdoor seating that was dog friendly. We had the cobb salad, gyro salad and falafels. Everything was really well prepared, but the falafels were the star. Hand made, authentic, so fresh. Excellent service as well! read more

The staff here are fantastic!! I've only been twice. Both times for takeout. Each time the food has been fresh and satisfying!! Their mint lemonade is everything you need on a hot day! Had a fabulous lunch at Zaina's cafe. They have a nice outdoor patio and the staff were very friendly and the service was great. I had the falafel salad and the falafel were amazing, perfectly crisp outside and soft and almost fluffy in the middle. If you are craving Mediterranean food I highly recommend Zaina's Bellini Cafe! We have been here only once so far but our experience was very mixed. However, it has some good elements and it seems to be fairly new, so there is promise here. We plan to go back to see if they have ironed out some wrinkles. I am on the fence about giving a 3 or 4 but while there clearly is good potential for a 4, I just couldn't go higher than a 3 here at this time. Overall, the food is pretty good- about 3.5 stars or so, but uneven. The chicken shawarma wrap was very good (4), with juicy, tasty chicken sumac onions, lettuce, pickles, and tzatziki (or as I'm more used to in Turkish, cacik - the "c" prounounced like "j"). The pickles were standard American-style pickles of the kind one would find on a burger, so that was not in of itself authentic to Turkish/eastern Mediterranean cuisine in my experience (se more below), it worked well in this wrap. The felafel wrap was pretty good but bland overall (3.5). The felafel itself had great texture- crunchy on the outside and soft inside with a savory herbal taste. The pickles here added an odd component, good only in adding crunch. There was very little tahin, leaving it more dry and a big reason the wrap as whole was rather bland. There was a nice fresh flavour, too, but the blandness was too dominant. Given a little more tahin or salt or other seasoning, it could be very good. The felafel on its own was at least a 4, though. The potato salad was ok (3). It had some parsley and mint but no other noticeable seasoning and was actually very bland. The waffle was good, crunchy outside, soft inside, with nice strawberries (4). The fries were ok (3). Mint lemonade was very nice and refreshing (4). Service was ok, but the server did not seem to know the menu well, perhaps due to newness. The place itself had a slight stale, sweaty smell, not strong but definitely noticeable. This may have more to do with the building and prior history, rather than the business, but I am not sure. The Eastern Mediterranean/Middle Eastern element is also somewhat unclear and more of a very Americanized ersatz-Eastern Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine in ways that are inconsistent and confusing. I mentioned above the pickles in the wraps, which worked in the shawarma but not the felafel. Also, while pickles and fermented vegetables have a trong tradition in Turkey and the regions around it, these were plain old American pickles and I have never seen them used in this manner in Turkey or the Balkans (although admittedly I have not been to the Arab word as yet). The menu also listed gozleme, calling it a "Turkish waffle," which really confused us when we ordered it. Gozleme is Turkish and we were surprised when it came out as a standard American waffle (see above). Gozleme in Turkey is type of stuffed flatbread kind of similar to a quesadilla but with different ingredients in the filling. Also, the "qatayif" on the menu is just plain buttermilk pancakes, but "qatayif" or,as in Turkish, kadayif, is entirely different - either made from fried thin strands of dough (like kunefe) or what the Turks call "ekmek kadayif," which is like a cake or bread soaked in syrup. We found this aspect to be troubling, confusing, and slightly off-putting. As I said, the food itself s overall pretty good and definitely has strong points, while there is potential, so we'll try it again when down in Cotati. read more

I have always had a Good experience at this place. Except when order take out. I ordered take out twice over the weekend. Both times I arrived 15 minutes after my order should have been ready. Both times I had to wait over 50 minutes for my food. I'm just saying, if the restaurant ia shorthanded STOP taking take on-line orders. I discovered Zaina's one Sunday morning when I was craving a healthy breakfast. I purposefully over-ordered by getting both the garden veggie hash and the healthy morning breakfast. My friend got the two egg breakfast. Listen, my first order was not under ideal circumstances. We got take out, then we went to the grocery store, so we reheated the food in the microwave. And you know what? The food was STILL delicious. I know at my first bite that I was going to have to go back because if they could deliver under those conditions that they were the real deal. The veggie hash was my favorite and probably what I would order when I go again for breakfast. Potatoes, veggies, poached eggs, avocado all mixed together -- perfection! I got the biscuit on the side and listen... let me tell you about this biscuit: light, fluffy, soft, amazing. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought about stopping there just to pick up a biscuit multiple times since having it the first time. The healthy breakfast was a TON of food. Three eggs, veggies, avocado, toast, PLUS a big side of fruit. My friend was also very happy with her breakfast. I have gone back but for lunch. We got the shawarma nachos to start, and then I got the gyro while my friend made a meal out of the falafel and calamari appetizers. The calamari had some kind of honey coating on it, so it was really interesting and good! The nachos were very good as well. The potato salad was recommended to me, but I didn't love it. In the end, I guess nothing tops your first. The first time we went here it was a pleasant experience. Wish I could say the same about the 2nd visit. The food did not taste as fresh and good as the first time. The orange juice had a taste of oranges gone bad. I spoke with what I believed to be the owner and he proceeded to tell me of the produce shortage and there might have been bad oranges but just wrote it off as no big deal.
