I'm really feeling 2.5ish for Cafe Benedicte but being the holiday season and all, I'll lean my experience closer on the 3 side. My company chose CB for our annual Christmas luncheon. I'd never been, passed it many a times so I was excited to indulge on company dime. That parking lot situation though...man, good luck with that! Maybe it's not much of an issue on a normal day but it seemed like 2 company events were taking place and you really had not much choice but to valet. I don't know if it's free or not (wasn't worried since again *company dime*) but I would hope so considering the lot is extremely small and shared with other businesses. The service felt really rushed and the server for my particular table was short in his responses. He actually acted pretty annoyed, but I chalked it up to him perhaps feeling overwhelmed. But he never missed a beat, that much I will tell you. I asked for lemonade while he was going around taking app orders (because my coke absolutely sucked) and he said uh huh, ok and continued around the table. I was for sure thinking he would forget but he didn't! Overall though, they did an good job refilling drinks and removing finished dishes. Regarding the most important item....the food! Well hmmm it didn't suck but it was nothing to pick up a pen to begin writing home about. I ordered the crab cake for app (decent but bready and on the salty side with some olive like things), souvlaki with beef, shrimp, fish and veggies as an entree. I thought it was pretty good but the fish was not. The portion was very small and only had 3 little pieces of mini beef. I really hope that's not indicative of normal because I wouldn't pay very much for that dish. Dessert was really good and even though it's only been a week ago, I don't have one ounce of memory about what it was. I just remember it being very good... I've been looking to try a new brunch place to try so I found Cafe Benedicte. My friend and I really enjoyed our experience. We began with a bellini which was a little more sweet than I would like but it was very tasty. For brunch we ordered a breakfast meat skillet and the scallop dinner. The meat skillet was very delicious and I had more than enough left to take home. The scallops were some of the best I've ever tasted. The scallops lay on a bed of salad which compliments them well. I have intended to dine here for many years but last night was the first time. It was a wonderful evening with friends. The staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive. It was a little slower than anticipated but not bothersome. The food we all had was excellent. Well prepared, hot and very nice presentation. We had the blackened redfish ponchartrain, the grilled pork chop and steak Diane. They were all delicious as were the lentil and French onion soups and the bread pudding and carrot cake for dessert. My sister and I just moved to the area and were looking for a place to eat brunch and this was pretty close to where we live. I had the Paella and she had the pancakes. Paella looked yummy but unfortunately tasted nothing like a paella. I was very disappointed with the flavor. I could only taste the oily flavor and no other flavors. My sister had the pancakes which she really liked but it came with barely any maple syrup. Our waiter was nice but might have been newer since he didn't seem to be on top of his game at all. He was not asking if we needed coffee refills and when we asked him for refills he would completely forget until we reminded him and then he dripped coffee on our table when he was pouring it. Cafe Benedict is a nice place for lunch. It is located in the energy corridor. The portion sizes are enough to feed two people, which is awesome. I personally got the lobster bisque and farfalle Luigi. I would not order the bisque again as the lobster had a funny texture and the soup had no seasoning. The pasta was really good. I'd definitely order it again. One of the downfalls is how long it takes to get your food. I would give this restaurant another try. read more

Came here for dinner in a Wednesday evening. They have a special tapas menus that is only available on Wednesdays and I believe it changes weekly if I remember what our waiter said correctly. I appreciate that they have an outdoor patio which we enjoyed. The waitstaff was pretty friendly and attentive although the food did take a little longer than expected to come out. I had their multigrain protein bowl with shrimp which looked so pretty but didn't come together for me taste wise. They had a siracha aioli that came with the dish but it was too spicy and one noted to pour over everything. I think some kind of vinaigrette might have been a better dressing for the dish. The shrimp was well flavored but a little over cooked in my opinion. I also had their lentil soup which was kinda average. There was hummus for the table and that was just ok. I found it interesting that the crowd at this place was also one note and let's just say our table had the most flavor but maybe it was just the night we came in. read more

No one greeted us, we were standing there for a couple of minutes and the bartender said in a loud voice- take a sit wherever you like. Can't say much about their food because I felt a bit deceived by its name. Cafe there is nothing to Cafe. There is no breakfast or brunch style of meals. A bit over priced for location and spot. Ambience felt a bit tense. Waiters and waitresses had no idea what was on the menu. The manager or owner was upset at one of their employees. Who knows- One of the waiters could barely speak good English so definitely there was a language barrier. Wont be going back to this place. My sister and I wanted to grab some brunch and found this restaurant in the area. We got a table right away and didn't have to wait. Our server disappeared on us for a good 15 mins. We were trying to look for her, but she just passed our table as if we weren't sitting there. They gave us some BREAD, which was very simple, but I really liked the jam that came with it. The bread itself had a lot of burnt parts so I had to cut off about half of each piece. It makes me wonder if they deem that serve-able what else would they serve. TEMPURA SALMON BENEDICTE- english muffin topped with tempura salmon, poached eggs, and hollandaise I was really excited to try this dish, but it was so dry. Everything from the muffin, to the salmon, to the hollandaise. The english muffin had too much of a crisp to it, which would have been fine if the salmon wasn't overly cooked and fried. The salmon was bland and didn't have much flavor and the hollandaise sauce was weak. It didn't provide that creaminess I was looking for and the poached eggs were overcooked because the yolk wasn't runny enough to encompass the other ingredients. Overall, this dish was very disappointing and lacking in flavor. Service was sub-par and food was disappointing. I really wanted to like this place, but I just can't. read more

I've checked in five times and visited on many other occasions. These folks got it goin' on! Offering a great variety on their menu in a really cool setting that makes you feel like you're in the Mediterranean, Cafe Benedicte is truly one of my favorite West Houston restaurants. I've tried many of their menu items - among my favorites are the paella, lamb shank, steak Diane, and blackened redfish (some of the best blackened red you'll ever eat IMO). They offer a full bar and a nicely stocked wine list, including ample selections by the glass. You can order off the full menu at the bar or enjoy their stellar table service. On many evenings they feature live music - an uber talented young man that plays the piano, sax, flute, and I'm sure a plethora of other instruments. It's very tasteful and adds just the right amount of "cool" to the dinner ambience. If you are a fan of locally owned and managed restaurants, you're really doing yourself a disservice if you don't visit the Cafe. This one's a winner, and 5 stars from me is a no brainer. read more

I had the dark chocolate latte, and I liked it. It was a bit sweet for my liking. But, the flavor made up for that. I loved that it came with two little amaretto biscottis that I could dip into my latte. Flavor notes of almond and chocolate hit my tastebuds. So good. For the entree, I ordered their spinach omelette. It looked simple enough from the outside. But, the inside spoke for itself. It was a well seasoned omelette with every bite filled with spinach, mushrooms, garlic, cheese, and a cream sauce. It was just delicious. Their hash browns were good too. Next time, I may try their caprese omelette. My friends seemed to enjoy their entrees as well. Walked in this restaurant and it was not busy however we were not attended to be seated. I had to go ask the bartender if we seat ourselves then he found the hostess who came and sat us. There are a few times in your yelp life that you want to try a place that gets less than 4.5 stars. Sometimes you want to eat at a place without checking the reviews. Or you're too tired of looking and figure 4/5 is better than average. That is what I was thinking when I walked in here. When I walked in Sunday morning, I looked around and saw the hostess tending to some menus on the side. She turned to greet me with a smile and showed us a table. We requested a little more privacy and she accommodated our seating request. So far so good. Service was friendly and vigilant. Frequent but non intrusive check-ins. The brunch menu was neither limited nor extensive and the dishes had great names, ingredients, and seemed to offer an exciting experience. Prices were average, neither a bargain, nor what some may consider overpriced. However, the food was underwhelming. The vaunted bread and jam complimentary starter was disappointing. The bread crust was pale and weak. The inside bread was soft and reminiscent of sourdough. Perhaps this is how you sell bread, but when serving it, I would expect a crustier crust. The eggs benedict - the poached eggs were perfect. The muffins were toasted and hot. This was perhaps the best part of the meal. The fresh fruit side had mushy watermelon (like watermelon that is old or bruised) and the pineapple pieces - cut into edible bites but tart and not quite ripe. The waffle was neither good nor bad. Not particularly memorable. Cooked but not crispy nor soggy. The setting and ambiance were perhaps the reason most dine here. It is a good place to do business over a meal. It is in a nice neighborhood and the staff are well dressed and courteous. And I suppose you can have a meal without breaking the bank. But I value the quality of the food and I think that more could be done in that arena. The bread - should have an option to offer it toasted so that it is easier to spread the butter and the jams. The fruit should be absolutely ripe and fresh. Take a bite before serving it. The eggs were done right - no complaint. The muffin was right was well. The waffle should be cooked to give it a bit of a bite instead of being a soft piece of bread that offers minimal texture. Oh, I forgot about the coffee. It's mild and watery. Certainly easy to drink black. It is weaker than the brews most people are accustomed to these days. I like a strong cup of coffee. I assume that is what I'll get when I order one. But again, perhaps the clientele at this location like a milder and less "in your face" approach to food. All together, I think the restaurant is good for the location and ambiance. It is somewhere you go when you want the focus to be on the people you are with because the setting and service make it so. You may also enjoy the food, but I didn't.
