I'm really glad Café Berlina is in the neighborhood. It's a cute, cozy local coffee shop run by the owner, who is always incredibly sweet and welcoming. The coffee is genuinely delicious, and my favorite treat is the café nico with orange flavor -- it's such a unique, thoughtful drink you don't find everywhere. The pastries are all excellent too, and feel handmade or sourced from local artisans; special, not mass-produced or generic. I also appreciate that it's a place meant for slowing down. Coffee good, ceramic mugs available and pastry was solid. Owner was friendly enough and the no Wi-Fi available plus a policy of not allowing the standard bullshit "I bought a coffee so now I can sit here with my laptop for 5 hours" is great. So, why 2 stars? No bathroom. Not "bathroom for customer only"... just no bathroom at all for customers. That's terrible enough but in a coffee shop that's insane, and frankly I'm confused how that's even legal. Every state I've been to requires bathrooms for any restaurant that has sit down food service (which you have here). Sorry, but not being able to use a bathroom if you need to at a place where you sit and eat food and drink coffee is borderline criminal, even if somehow it is legal. read more

My mocha was absolutely delicious, so major props for that. I passed on the $10 breakfast biscuit. The cinnamon bun was fancy looking and came recommended. Pretty and delicious. Just a little dry. They offer a selection of premade sandwiches. There's a café on the other side of Wilshire that looks better for lunch per se. Very close to UCLA Health. It's just around the block. Went in to have a cup of coffee and, I urgently needed to charge my phone as I was expecting a call from the doctor's office. I sat near the phone outlet when the barista rudely said NO you can't use it. Never mind that I had to wait in line for 2O minutes to place my order when there was only one person ahead of me. Found Berlina after waiting for a relative at UCLA imaging. Very charming coffee shop with an inviting ambiance. Food and decor show care and presentation of sandwiches is very appetizing. The owner was as friendly as she was efficient but what I found most impressive was the care and attention that she provided to a gentleman who appeared to be homeless. She was patient with him and offered him a cup of drip coffee. I loved the German theme and signs inviting guests to learn relevant German words. Stopped in about noon on a weekday, and immediately felt welcome. The space is charming and clean, the menu varies to a small degree, and food is brought in fresh. The prices are very good, considering the location; I was surprised, pleasantly. I also looked that they can accept cash. I got an Americano, black, and a pastry with cardamom, the last one there. The coffee was just strong enough (an Americano is often too watery). The pastry was delightful, light, flaky, fresh, a nice mix of flavors without any one being overbearing. Very pleasant visit to Cafe Berlina. Such a cute and quaint coffee shop with a German theme. When I walked in, there were a couple people enjoying baked goods and busy professionals coming and going. I ordered a dirty chai with almond milk and it was great. The chai wasn't super spicy, but the espresso in it was delicious. I got to taste one of the muffins and it was so fresh and flavorful. A lot of their baked goods look amazing. They also have some grab and go sandwiches. This place is great to grab a cup of coffee, or a quick lunch. Only a few small tables inside. When I was there, there was only one woman working so there was a little wait between ordering and getting our drinks because she was helping other customers. But despite being busy, the service was great. I recommend checking out Cafe Berlina if you are in the area! I loved all the small details here like the German steins. read more

I came here for the first time today. Alexandra who is lovely by the way , made me the most incredible cardamom latte. It's the best latte I've ever had and I've always wanted to try cardamom And coffee together and this is the only place I've ever seen that will let you try it that way at least here in Santa Monica. As I sat and had my coffee every person that came to order was a regular. They all said they come everyday and we've all been referred by someone else who came everyday too. They also said that it's the same like you get in Europe. I can see how people come here regularly because it will now be my regular spot. I've walked by this place for years. Apparently it's been here 4 years and I'm kicking myself for not trying it sooner. Please stop by. They've got baked goods and other treats. I'd say it's more like 3.5 stars. Iced Bear latte 5/5 delicious oat milk based latte with a light hazelnut flavor. Just slightly sweet, creamy and flavorful. I'd get this again for sure. Kouign amann 2.5/5 I am a kouign amann snob. It's my favorite pastry and this one was just okay. It was pretty dry inside. Not like a sweet, soft and dense core like it should. I tried the Vanilla latte and the almond Cake. The coffee was great again not the best I have had so I can only give it a 4 for that reason. I like taste the coffee. I feel the coffee is on the lighter side so if you like that then it is great. The pastry was great. The over all rating I would say a 4.5 so I would have to give it 4. Cute little café in Santa Monica. We stopped by here during our visit to UCLA Santa Monica which is just around the corner from this café. I ordered a Cortado and an apple danish for my hubby. The Cortado was perfectly balanced and the Apple danish was a little bit on the plain side but still yummy. Seating is limited but I appreciated the simple and clean decor. Service was friendly and our orders came out in a timely manner. I'm not usually out this way but I would come back in the future. This seems to be hotspot for college students in the area. I work at the hospital and will walk over with 20 minutes to spare and by the time I'm there the door is already locked and the staff is cleaning up. I met a friend here for tea and coffee and chose a couple pastries for us to share. I found a table and two chairs for us to sit and relax. We shared the Olive Citrus Cakw which we blith loved. We also shared a Fig Coconut bar which we found too rich. The woman sitting next to us ordered a quiche and she said it was delicious! Restrooms are available for customers only . It's a simple, clean interior with fresh flowers and glossy pastries.
