I was torn - I really wanted the country omelette which is basically the western plus sausage gravy with a biscuit but the bananas foster pancakes sounded so good. Our server convinced me to just go nuts and order the omelette and add half an order of pancakes. Her upsell training was on point, because the add wasn't cheap but indeed I needed to taste them. And like I said . . . . Best. Pancakes. Ever. The omelette was great. The biscuit was just ok. The pancakes were indescribably amazing. It just looked like we got lucky and got a table a bit larger than needed and near the front without being obvious. We had drinks brought out and I had the amore spritzer suggested by the server. It was larger than expected and fairly strong, great taste. The other two drinks were just standard gin & tonic and a beer. All three dinners were excellent: my lobster ravioli, calamari, and chicken Romano. The house salads were very good, as was the shared slice of cheesecake that ended our dinner. The food & drinks were excellent, the server was great interacting with us and doing some give and take, and it was not overly expensive. In cost this would be a 3 out of 4 or a 3.5 out of 5 if the top number was higher expense for a restaurant. Without a doubt I would go back on a date if I was looking to impress.

I have never seen or tasted any grits like these and I hope to never again. My husband drinks black coffee. He took one sip and made a face. I know that face! The coffee wasn't good. He said it was VERY weak. We both thought diners were typically known for good coffee - but apparently not all of them! I went to the restroom before we left. It was clean enough. I washed my hands and went to dry them but there was nothing to dry them with. An employee was in there putting on makeup. She asked if there were paper towels and I said no. She said she would get some "in a little bit". So I left with wet hands. The gal had been working so I don't know if she was on a break or what, but she was not helpful! Alas, I couldn't, or more accurately, wouldn't finish my meal. It was obvious that it had sat in the kitchen pass for quite awhile. I'm not sure it would have been much better served piping hot. I wanted to like and recommend Shorty's as it is nearby and a family owned business. It wasn't all bad, perhaps just understaffed? I may give it another try in a few months.
