It's a shame my nail place is literally right next door and I'm just now getting around to trying this place! I came pretty early this morning and as expected, there was a wait. Thankfully, they had all hands on deck so there was minimal time spent waiting. The woman who took my order was kind and patient as I struggled to select which kind of bread I wanted from their plethora of options. Although I came in undecided between a sandwich and one of their pastries, I opted for the former and a chocolate chip cookie. After waiting all of five minutes, my name was called and I was on my way. While the presentation of the sandwich wasn't the most appealing it def made up for it in taste. The egg was whole but cooked to perfection. Although I asked for cheddar, I was given white cheddar instead, which I was surprised because this was not told to me when I ordered. The sandwich was good, but I'll need to choose a different bread next time since it was quite mushy. The cookie was good and something I'd compare to tollhouse. It was incredibly soft but again, I was thrown off by the semisweet, almost dark chocolate chips. Nevertheless, it was still good and I'd get it again. Overall, this place reminds me of a Des Peres version of La Bonne Bouche. It's got ample seating, tons of pastries, and other cafe items. I'll def return. read more

The menu is basic so if you're picky you'll have to ask what is on/in each item. The cashier was patient and friendly with us though, answered all questions and gave plenty of suggestions. I could totally be missing a supplemental handheld menu, but I remember thinking this before when I've been in during previous visits. Went to buy a loaf of bread and check out a new bakery. My first visit. Things were picked over, but I was helped to find a wonderful loaf that was left. However, I also bought a peach pie that looked fabulous, but I was very disappointed because the peaches were so hard even though the crust was absolutely delicious and melted in your mouth. But I spent $24 for it and won't do that again, but I want to go back to have a breakfast or lunch. I really like the vibe of the place, felt very comfortable. People seemed to be regulars. Great little lunch spot in Kirkwood! I've been coming to Daily Bread since I was a kid, but it was good to be back and see all the renovations that have been made. The staff was super welcoming and made some great recommendations. I went with the pick two soup/sandwich combo. The mushroom gouda soup was so flavorful and filling! This was my favorite. I also ordered one of the fall sandwiches, which I found pretty average and just a little bland. I do think there are better sandwich options on the menu. Last Saturday I went to lunch with a friend. I have been coming to Daily Bread for decades starting out when they first opened up in University City over 40 years ago. I experienced a " freak accident". As I was pouring my cream into my very hot coffee at the coffee station something exploded at the coffee bar and spewed all the burning hot coffee on me and a metal lid from the lid dispenser exploded burning my forearm and soaking my silk top. It took what seemed like a long time for someone to even come over to help. One of the workers noticed the issue and brought some cold wet towels. Then a pastry chef finally came over to make an incident report and said something happened on the other side of the restaurant before but no one was there when it exploded. He insisted on giving me 2 pastries and said the owner would reach out to me on Monday. I am very disappointed that today March 30,2025 is one week later and the owner NEVER reached out to me. Thankfully the burn did not blister. It was a very painful few hours. My silk brocade blouse/jacket were stained. I am appalled that no one reached out to me. That lid container that exploded could have just as easily hit me in the face. I have been buying products from this place for many, many years. Today, at lunchtime, I walked in as usual, walked over and got three plates of expensive cookies. I walked up to the cash register to pay for them, and a blonde female behind the counter told me that in order for me to purchase the cookies, I had to go stand in the order line, which had about 15 people standing in at the time waiting to order lunch. That's never happened to me before. Everyone prior to this has been more than happy to check me out. You folks have just lost a lifetime customer. We stopped here after church to grab something lighter than what's around. Soup and salads sounded good and we were hopeful after seeing the crowd. Lots of parking and the interior of the place is cute and clean. Lots of subway tiles and black metal fixtures. Order was taken quickly and we grabbed a table to wait for our name to be called. Food was ok, but everything seemed a bit off than what we expected. The "pick 2" on the meme was for a full size sandwich/salad and soup. Not sure that our salads were the full sizes. Broccoli cheddar soup was luke warm, pretty thin/runny and had as amp shredded carrots as it did broccoli. Caesar salad with tomato? Cobb salad with mushrooms? The chicken on the Cobb salad was clearly precooked, and was dumped on top, as I pulled the pieces apart, not very appetizing. The seasonal grilled cheese was the most consistent thing that we got, but it was fairly tiny. The little bag of chips that came with it made it look even smaller. Place was packed with the after church crowd, and they seemed to be doing a good business. Not sure that this is a place we will go back to again. Was there on a Friday around noon, a lot of people there. Service was good as you stand in line to order and then call your name when the order is done. I had the ham, ell and cheese on a bagel and it was tasty about the right size. I had a fruit cup as a side, some of the fruit was not fresh. It was a struggle to find a table. The Daily Bread is one of my favorite breakfast cafes. They offer fresh sandwiches and yummy salads. They have an incredible selection of sweet treats (croissants, cookies, strudels etc). They also have whole gooey butter cakes, premade cookie trays and other grab and go desserts. They have a line most weekend mornings but it moves quickly. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with egg and cheese on wheat. It was simple, but good. The turkey club was fresh and extremely filling. The iced cookies are always a family favorite! Good place to pick up freshly baked goods. Stopped by after a long run (ritual carb-loading post runs = sampling several pastries at a time) and really enjoyed the croissant for the bacon/egg/cheese breakfast sandwich. The cinnamon roll was my favorite pastry, not a ton of frosting and not supersized, so a great snack or side with a light, yummy flavor. The bread pudding was ok. Bread pudding is my favorite, so I may just be too particular about flavor and texture, but that wasn't something I'd order again here. I ordered what I thought was a sugar cookie as well (told you carb loading = several pastries in one sitting!) and had verified with the girl at the counter that it was indeed a sugar cookie, but it had a slightly lemony, pillowy texture more similar to a madeleine than a cookie. I'm not sure if maybe she was mistaken but it didn't taste anything like sugar cookies I've had before - which is pretty numerous. Overall, I'd return to purchase a croissant or cinnamon roll and to check out their other lunch/dinner entrees. Convenient location on Manchester and ordering/carry out was pretty quick. read more

I ordered a pizza online at the Daily Bread Bakery and picked it up curbside a few weeks ago--it was my first time trying anything from there and I was looking for dinner options at the time, but I'd like to come back and try some more traditional bakery items, like BREAD and sandwiches and sweet pastries. We ordered the BBQ chicken pizza, which came with chicken, gouda, mozzarella cheese, and sliced onions, and LOVED it. Today was my first time back to The Daily Bread since the remodel. I ordered a half Caesar salad and a half Roast Beef sandwich. As you can see the Roast Beef sandwich was teeny tiny, 2.5" tiny. (Just happened to have a tape measure on me. See pic.) I asked the manager (owner?) if this was a half sandwich and he said, yes, it was. (More like a quarter sandwich, in my opinion.) I would much rather get a decent sized sandwich and pay more than receive this 3- bite roast beef sandwich. I left the restaurant still hungry. My friend took pity on me and offered me her dinner roll. I have worked in many restaurants and have eaten in many more restaurants in my time. I would be embarrassed to serve this to customers. I love this place and this was my first time there since the expansion. They have a wide open feeling now, indoor and outdoor seating, and delicious food. I've gotten sandwiches, salads, and soups there and have never been disappointed. Salads are fresh and creative, sandwiches come on fresh bread, and they have a decadent display of many baked goods - cookies, brownies, and fancier stuff. I used to work at the daily bread and boy do I constantly crave the food. First of all, most things are baked fresh, I can attest to this. I worked in the back prepping baked goods and oh wow are the muffins good right out of the oven. I will forever miss being able to eat them freshly baked. I dream of it. I also worked up front making salads and they were made with love. At least when I made them they were. The staff pre COVID was wonderful and I loved them. I haven't been there since as I've been away for college but I'm sure the staff is still great. Management is okay. The smell is so nostalgic and the aesthetic matches the place perfectly!
