Ample parking in the underground garage. Cafe was located in a cute plaza with a lot of other stores (eg bookstore and a bakery). It was unexpectedly crowded on a Friday morning. One of my girlfriends was just town for business so we met up for Brunch on Saturday. I'd never been to Cafe Borrone but it was near her hotel and it said they were dog friendly which we needed because she traveled with her pup. Large FREE lot below the cafe to park in which was really nice. Plenty of outdoor seating although it was an exceptionally hot day so shade was key. Thankfully I snagged a table that had partial shade. You order inside (lines are pretty long but move quickly) and they bring your food to your table. Customer service was friendly and helpful. Drinks need to be picked up at the coffee bar by you do don't forget! Here's what I ordered: BREAKFAST WRAP: just "okay" nothing special about it at all. FRUIT CUP: Sweet and delicious but mostly pineapple. QUICHE LORRAINE: this was okay. Not a ton of flavor. 1/2 ORDER OF FRENCH TOAST: perfect size but again, kinda basic. MORNING BUN: this was good. Flaky and sweet. FROSTED MOCHA: skip this. Over all I was disappointed. When I first received my drink, I almost mistook it for a cookies and crème milkshake. It looked nothing like a mocha--and tasted nothing like a mocha. It has a milkshake consistency that refused to move through the straw, and there was no trace of cocoa to be found. All in all, just no. I don't understand why this place is always so busy. There's always a line, any time of day, and it takes forever to get your food. And it's not worth it. The food is only ok, there's always families with children here but there's no kid menu and the portions are way too big. And it's old and grimy. Especially the bathrooms, which are outside in a strip mall. I just saw a literal chunk of feces on the floor while waiting for my breakfast. There are so many better places in the area. We pass by this place often and there always seems to be a line so we decided to give it a try. Located off of El camino with a nice view of the road. There's a decent sized parking lot who's stairs lead you to this place, very clutch because street parking isn't too likely. The savory ham and scallion waffle left me scratching my head where the meat was but it's cooked in. So don't expect too much savory. In the same breath the waffles are cooked to perfection to where syrup isn't required but it'll definitely add to the goodness of the dish lol. I had a hunch that the waffle might not be as savory that the menu suggests so I got an Italian sausage on the side. I wont lie, we left very very pleased. There was quite a wait for our food to be ready but it's more than understandable with the high amount of orders. If youre not big on breakfast like me, it wouldn't hurt to order some sides. In case one item isn't enough and everything seems a la carte. Not a complaint, just something to be aware of. Lastly I wanted to add that the service was really good. Let me preface by saying that I loved cafe barrone. The food is good, the ambience is good enough, and there's always seating and parking. I come nearly every weekend and have recommended several friends to go there as well. Today's experience was so poor that it makes me sad to lose such a great brunch spot. We were a party of 6; four of us were seated outside with Philz coffee from next door. One lady approached our table and kindly reminded us that no outside food and beverage were allowed. We didn't have anything on the table yet so I can understand why it looked like we were "using" their table. She said we needed to order something, which we were going to but we were still looking at the menus that were in our hands. After we ordered and were waiting with the table numbers, a Second Lady approached our table saying that "this was her place of business", that that we were being extremely rude and that there was no outside food and drink allowed and that she "rather we throw away our drinks". We later confirmed with another staff member that this was the owner. I'll be the first to admit it might not have been right to bring our own coffee, but her attitude and tone was super aggressive for the situation. The worst part was that another table near us that had Philz coffee on their table, and others we saw brought their own tumblers for drink. They did not get the same embarrassing scolding we received. We spent $200 today for breakfast, 2 out of 6 purchased drinks directly from this establishment, four of us didn't. I think the owner needs to reflect on what happened today and hopefully will see the bigger picture because she is losing our weekly visit over her attitude. read more

Cafe Borrone is the place to go to breakfast on the weekends in Menlo Park. I also like going for any other meal any other day of the week. Everything here is good- I really like their breakfast wraps, chicken salad salad, paninis, and allegedly James and Dave Franco really like the tri tip sandwich. The ONLY reason why I sometimes avoid going here is because of the pigeon situation. If you are a bird hater like me, this is not the place for you. The last time I was here i was eating oatmeal and I turned around and someone's dog was taking a bite out of an alive pigeon that was in a dish bin and it was a whole thing. I do consider myself to be more resilient than many of the other bird haters in the community, so I will continue to go back, but be warned that this is not an isolated pigeon-related incident. ALSO- if you order drinks, remember to pick them up at the drink station. They usually forget to tell you this so if you are new, here you go. I have forgotten this several times despite growing up coming here and have had several cold drinks waiting for me and are warm by the time I finally pick them up. Welcome your palate to Italy! BEST French toast I've had across 56 countries, and best frosted mocha I've ever had in my life. The line is typically across the courtyard for a reason. It's worth the wait. There is indoor seating and outdoor seating with umbrellas. I recommend sitting near the fountain. My Sunday morning trips to the Palo Alto Farmers' Market were missing something...it was missing a good spot to grab a breakfast/brunchy meal once I had finished my shopping and before heading back home. I found the spot!!!!! Only 9 minutes up El Camino Real in Menlo Park...Café Borrone had been waiting for me! Although I was late to discover this café...it is obviously no secret...it was packed with customers! I had scoped the menu before walking in and realized there were many items on their menu that looked like something I would order. Yay...Options!!! Once I got inside, I saw a line of people holding menus and then I saw registers at the front of the line. This must be where I start. Once I got to the front of the line, I told the gentleman that was going to place my order that this was my first time at Café Borrone. He was so nice, knowledgeable and helpful...I knew I wanted a scramble and a latte, but I also knew I wanted something else. I thought about a side of toast but this smart guy talked me into a pastry. I asked which one was his favorite because there were so many good ones to choose from...I couldn't decide. He said the blueberry biscuit was his favorite and I said "okay...I'll have one of those". While I was ordering; I learned that everything is sold à la cart, my food gets dropped off to me at whatever table I pick, I will need to grab my latte from their coffee bar, and that the ingredients they use to make their food comes from local farms. Perfect!!! I ended up with a latte, a blueberry biscuit, a ham and cheese scramble, and a side of breakfast potatoes. He handed me a number (to place on the table for my food delivery), my biscuit along with a napkin and utensils and then I went over to the coffee bar to grab my latte. As I waited for my latte, I met another nice employee. He was making my drink and he told me that the pastry item I picked is his favorite. YUUUSSSS! At this point, without eating a thing, I felt like I had scored and literally just wanted to eating the biscuit as I stood there waiting for my drink. Ha...my drink didn't even take a long time...I was just so excited for the biscuit! Buuut I managed to have a bit of self-control and I waited until I sat down. I got a spot at a bar table near the coffee bar. Again...Perfect!!! I didn't even wait for my food to arrive, I just took a sip of the latte and started eating my biscuit. Oh my gosh...both were sooo good. Now I could see why everyone liked that blueberry biscuit so much. The texture was just right...it was tender with just the right amount of fluffy yet firm and loaded with fresh juicy blueberries bursting with flavor!!!! Then out came my hot items! I had grabbed a bottle of hot sauce, as I usually add that to most of my breakfast meals, BUT I decided to try the scramble and the potatoes without hot sauce first (simply based on how flavorful the biscuit was). Neither one needed hot sauce. The potatoes had been prepared with thinly sliced onions which added great flavor and the texture of my skillet was on point; not dry and a good ratio of cheese and ham to egg...and so totally ymmy!!! Because of where I was sitting, I could see the staff while I ate. They were friendly, attentive and busy...helping customers with to-go boxes, replenishing sugar caddies and condiments, clearing and cleaning tables once patrons left so other people could sit down and enjoy their meals. I even dropped a napkin on the floor at one point and was going to pick it up once I was done eating. Nope...the staff was on it...a gal came over and picked it up before I finished my meal. And because I was so close to the coffee bar area, the gentleman that took my order came up and checked on me to see make sure I was enjoying everything. What perfect service from start to finish! I ordered mine without beans. Saucy, delicious, super flavorful, and an awesome item for the menu. I also had the French toast. The platter was not esthetically plated, but it was definitely awesome. The texture was almost bread pudding-like. Can't forget the best drink on the menu! Their frosted mocha (a mocha shake) is their most popular beverage. It is super thick but delicious! I do prefer that over a watery mess as other cafes create. My wife had a drip coffee, and no matter which refill it was, it was always piping hot. I was impressed by the temperature as a cup of coffee is never hot enough for her, but this one passed the test! Our friends made their first visit to Cafe Borrone this time, and they were very happy with their meal as well! They both ordered breakfast sandwiches that are my usual go-to here. I also ordered a fresh squeezed orange juice. They pulled out a pitcher from the refrigerator to pour mine. The food is sooooo good it was so hard to choose. I had the egg potatoe wrap soooo good.
