I spent majority of my time in there reading all of the wall art and looking at their decorations as there's so many! The servers are super sweet and pride on the food being fresh. Cute little Lynwood spot...Good champurado & the molletes are yummy but the pastries on two occasions were stale. Also, went in once about an hour before closing wanting a mollete but was told kitchen was closed...an hour before closing, I thought this was crappy but I don't run the kitchen‍ . I'll still come back, just earlier. Service is good (other than the mollete incident). Overall, I will say give them a try but ask if the pastries are fresh before ordering one and mind the kitchen hours. read more

My favorite place in lynwood, other than my house... lol well cafe canela is just great, the only side effect is that they close early.. 9pm. they have a nice patio area where you can drink your coffee/shake/atole and chat with friends or a special someone during the hot summer nights or frosty evenings (dont worry they have heaters) :) my favorite drink is the almond shake with a bagel or "mollete" my fav, totally. I've been coming to Cafe Canela for some time now, this review is based on my visits (haven't seen any of the negative reviews here) obviously. The "cafe de olla" is a must try when stopping by here. Tastes just like the ones I've tried when visiting the state of Puebla. The croissants are one of the best I've tasted, and the best part is that it's made from scratch. They have their stove in the back and you can see them making your food. I personally enjoy coming here whenever the chance is given, and it hasn't disappointed at all. Oh, and their customer service is great! Two of their employees already remember who I am. read more

So there I am, waiting for my chilaquiles, when they arrive the portion was too small! the egg seem that it was only have an egg that they serve me the chilaquiles were too salty and not a great flavor, they only great thing was the beans, well so so. Went in for coffee and desert and was able to get all my family lunch. The coffee was delicious with our churros we got. As our meals we got chilaquiles and huevos mexicanos. The beans were bomb!!! My first time here and I had to try the Cafe de Olla. It was good and fresh but a little too sweet for my liking. I usually drink black coffee. The service was great and the staff was friendly. The were selling jars of salsa and giving samples. The salsa was delicious and hot with roasted chiles. I bought a jar for $5. I also had to try a caramel filled churro that was made fresh to order. It was nice to sit outside in patio chairs while people watching. Good place to come back to. read more

No Negro Por Favor I went to this cafe today around 5pm. I usually go to Starbucks but wanted to try something different. I pass this place a lot but never went inside so I decided to give it a chance. I walked in and the place wasn't busy so I walked rite up to the register. I was gonna try a horchata cappuccino as the cashier was finishing up with the person in front of me. An older hispanic man walked rite in front of me. So I stepped back and looked at the cashier. I thought she would tell him that I was before him. NOPE she took his order and left my black ass just standing there. I then asked her why would you take his order when you watched him cutt rite in front of me. She said sorry... Uuuum ok so i took her pic for yelp purposes and her co-worker went to get Plaza Mexico security like they gone do sh!t. They got my order wrong my first time here. I ordered a horchata iced coffee and an order of churros. They called my order and they gave me two drinks. No churros. I may have been thirsty, but I was not THAT thirsty. It also didn't help that I couldn't speak Spanish. Communication got in the way a little. She refunded me and fixed my order right away. Honest mistake I'm sure. With that said, the horchata iced coffee and churro were delicious! Great vibe when you walk in. Modern and artsy ambiance. The churros were freshly made and were fluffy inside. You can also order the churros cajeta (caramel filling) which are pretty popular here. This place is definitely worth a visit. This place is located on a corner by the giant fountain in Plaza Mexico. It's a busy plaza, but people are constantly coming and going. I haven't had much of an issue finding parking here. read more

BEST CHURRO I'VE EVER HAD, HANDS DOWN. I came here a day after a friend had checked-in last week and posted a picture of the Creme Brulee latte along with the caramel-filled churro, and I can say that it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I needed a quick sweet fix along with a quick dose of caffeine on a sunny Friday afternoon, and this combination was exactly what I was looking for. I ordered the Creme Brulee blended, and it was AH-MAZING. The coffee wasn't over-powering the sweet taste of creme brulee, but rather the complement was so perfect, it was divine. The churro was delivered piping hot right out of the oven, and the caramel goo flowed down to the sides like love at first site. I hope that made sense.... Had it not been for the selection of coffee, I would have thought that I stepped back into a different place and time, like a place in Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel or Diego Rivera's painting. Cafe Canela is located near the entrance of Plaza Mexico but tucked in by the architecture and some large, outdoor plants. There were seating spaces outside overlooking both the parking spaces and the plaza with its architecture-- statues, fountains, and traditional buildings. As you sip your drink of choice or have some of the pastries, you can watch people as they walk by or the the cart vendors do business. Should you decide to hang out inside, the warm stone flooring and walls and the high ceiling creates an open and relaxing space. The wrought iron chairs and tables add to the ambiance taking you to an escape. I love the ambiance of this place. It was fun just sitting around and watching the flow of people outside. The downside was that the iced mocha I had was way below par. I couldn't really taste the coffee or the chocolate. The chocolate was on the very bottom and looked like imitation Hershey's chocolate syrup, as it had less flavor. I was really disappointed because given the effort in the space and the environment, I was expecting something as fabulous. I thought that the drink would taste original or local, even Mexican chocolate flavor. Instead, it tasted like chocolate milk. I was also going to purchase other pastries but many were packaged and something you could get from a supermarket. This is a great place to hang out, but probably not for a coffee junkie or snob. read more

Passed by this place on the way to La Guelaguetza and it was crowded. ON the way back, we decided to try it. I remember the same person who told me about La Guelaguetza mentioning this place, so why not? Cafe Canela is an odd place. It's relatively new since the Plaza Mexico is also sort of new; a design-y cross between Starbucks and Coffee Bean, interior-wise, except neither of those coffee places serve nachos. As it turns out, I ordered the wrong thing. I should've got the cafe de olla, a cinnamon-spiked cup of joe sweetened with brown sugar, or a mexican hot chocolate. I also should've got one of the sweet molletes, basically mexican-style french bread with sweet cream and caramel (probably cajeta, a brown syrup made from caramelized milk) baked in an oven; sweet pizza bread. Oh well, next time... I did get the cafe con leche, which had a mild coffee flavor, but without the accompanying bitterness. Definitely NOT the potent Peet's Coffee or even Starbucks' blends, which is fine by me. My fiance got a cup of decaf, which to her, tasted like brown water, the milk and sugar overpowering any latent coffee flavors. The menu seemed to have coffee, tea drinks, and other beverages like champurrado and different flavors of atole, but the language barrier prevents me from remembering any more than that. I can't say if this place is really, really good. Like anything in Plaza Mexico, it probably helps to speak spanish. I CAN say that it seems to be very popular with the locals since every time I saw the place there was either a line, or people sitting down enjoying their coffee. It's definitely not the cafe lechero from the Gran Cafe de la Parroquia in Veracruz, but I guess in Los Angeles, it'll have to do. read more

Best churros evaaaa! I love churros and these are definitely the best I've tried so far. I'm pretty sure these are handmade too. The outside is crispy and crunchy and the inside is soft and chewy. None of that stale, week-old frozen sh*t. If you're into sweets like I am, get it relleno with caramel. Soooo delish! The caramel was piping hot and came oozing out on the first bite. They're not greedy w/the caramel! On another note, I was not impressed by the iced creme brulee everyone is raving about. It tasted like a regular iced coffee. *sad face* I enjoyed their caramel champurrado much more :-) My quest for the best-est churros continues. Meanwhile, I'll frequent this place. read more

Totally recommend trying that if you like horchata and need the extra caffeine for the day! The place is fairly small, but very cozy. There's also seating outside with the small garden tables, in the plaza area of the other stores in that mall.
