We came in fairly early hence there was not much of a line yet we waited over an hour for two iced coffees that were extremely sweet and lacked any coffee flavor. There are better coffee places and if you want a baked good this is not the place for you since their muffins and apple strudel are all from Costco and their cakes (chocoflan and carrot cake) are small and dry. read more

Cafe Canela is a family place, the food is so delicious you feel at home. The staff is very helpful and friendly before COVID 19 many children and teens with disabilities gathered every Friday. One of my favorite breakfast spots. I love the horchata frap and the chilaquiles. I've had the chorizo breakfast burrito and it's good. Kinda oily imo but I think it's more a preference thing than anything else. Also, they have a butter muffin that's great and the cafe de olla is tasty too! This place always keeps me coming back and that's because their atole de cajeta is simply amazing . I know usually when you think about atole most people stay away but this you have to give a try . Its sweet and it's really taste like something out of your regular drinks . They also have good pastries that you can have along with a coffee . I'm not sure what all those one start reviews were about. We drove all the way here because I wanted a café de olla really bad. Holy cow! I haven't had a coffee this good in a long, long time. We ordered my café, deliciously spiced with a subtle hint of sweetness, an iced horchata that tasted like a piece of heaven, a churro with cajeta, because why not, and two breakfast dishes: huevos a la Mexicana and Huevos rancheros. Both were delicious. The beans? Bam! So much flavor! I will definitely come back to get my coffee fix. Plus, the mall is really cute and it has a fun market too. read more

The food here it's amazing, they make it right as you order so it can take a while but let me tell you it's worth it!! It's authentic Mexican food. I got the chilaquiles it come with an egg however u want it and a side of beans. To drink I got a cafe de olla and it was super good too a little to hot but still bomb. It's the only place I can get a really savory cup of cafe de olla or Coffee from a pot. An fine roast coffee, cinnamon, a touch of aniseeds, and piloncillo (Mexican dark brown sugar). Traditionally prepared in a clay pots called Ollas. The earth ware gives to the special flavor. Yes many places make it and serve it. However Cafe Canela makes it right, good and delicioso. The cafe de olla at Cafe Canela used to be my FAVORITE drink here I used to come in all the time for it....id underestimate my spanish and I just point to the pot in the back and ask for a LARGE cup of deliciousness. i mean the different spices and tastes in this coffee is just amazing. (tastes like a sweet cinnamon coffee) however in the past year the drink has gone down hill for me. sometimes they serve it up lukewarm, sometimes theres TOO much spices and other times its bland depending on how she wants to stir it up before serving it. I haven't had the perfect cup in a year :( also the ladies here sometimes rub me the wrong way. the service here is a complete hit or miss. PS heard the churros are AMAZING too bad i never got what I ordered so I never got to try it....ill be back for those suckers! read more

Service was terrible showed up. There was three people one was sitting down behind. The counter two were working was told to wait , waited about 15 minutes to actually get some help ordered sat down waited over 45 minutes just to see other people that were showing up after us getting food before us.. when I asked the girl about my order they could not find the order ticket. They looked at each other for about 5 minutes, not knowing what happen I ask for my money back, and they shorten me money they were trying to give me less than what I paid until I told them when she clearly had the receipt in her hand once she found it. They didn't offer anything to try to compensate our wait if they really want to keep our business, they would've tried harder. I like trying out independent coffee shops and supporting local business, so I decided to try this place out. This little shop has lots of potential to be a great coffee shop, but it's still far from being that. The location itself is very rustic and reminiscent of las calles de México. The wrought iron tables and chairs inside the cafe and in the patio area compliment the earthy tones of space. I had the cafe de olla, which was just OK. It did not taste that fresh. I also ordered 2 churros since everyone seems to be raving about them. While I appreciate that they were fresh, I did not appreciate waiting over 15 minutes for 2 churros!!! If you want real good churros you have to go to Mr. Churro (that's another review ) This review is based solely on the items I tried since the service is non-existent here!! read more

When I first went it was back in 2017 with some family and we had gotten a burrito and churros and I went again today and the churros are even better they're crispy and sweet and the burritos are amazing especially with the salsa which is made in house and they sell new danishes and a new Frappuccino with the flavor of mazapan. Ok so i stopped by this place yesterday during my lunch break to get some sort of coffee drink to get me by the afternoon. The atmosphere inside is very old school and quaint at the same time. The cashier was very helpful in finding me a drink on the menu. I ended up picking the creme brule iced coffee, which was probably one of the best i've ever tasted. it was sweet, but not overwhelming. also, it retained a hint of coffee flavor and just hit the spot on a hot day. I also purchased a churro with caramel filling and fell instantly in love with it after the first bite. You know the food is good if you stare at it after taking a bite, asking yourself if you're really eating something that good. I will definitely return and get something to eat next time. I need to meet the genius who decided to flavor coffee with creme brule! First of all, the employees were so nice! They gave samples of some of their hot beverages including Mexican hot chocolate and champorado. Both were very unique and flavorful. But I ended up ordering the creme brulee iced coffee with a churro filled with Mexican caramel. The creme brulee iced coffee was so bomb! I am a coffee-adict, so I'm very peculiar with my coffee and not a fan of all the sweet syrups. But the creme brulee flavored the coffee just right and had a swing of an aftertaste that's quite indescribable, but still very enjoyable. It was so refreshing and won't give you the bad breath coffee does (I always carry gum). The churro was also very good. It came out hot with hot caramel oozing out the top. I was actually a little timid to try it, thinking that it's sweetness might be an overwhelming combination with my sweet coffee drink, but it was surprisingly complementary. The caramel is very rich and a bit thicker, but its sweetness didn't overpower the sugar-cinnamon flavor of the churro. After sampling their other drinks, I know I have to come back. The best churros EVER! They are made to order. And you have the option of getting them filled with caramel. There nothing like a freshly made warm churro and a cup of Mexican hot chocolate. Mmmmm, just makes everything in ilfe at that moment OK. My only gripe, the cafe is really small. And it's on the corner of the Lynwood swapmeet and the parking lot stays packed.
