I didn't do much research and Wasn't expecting much. I was so pleasantly surprised. The parking is extremely easy. The front desk people are so welcoming and kind. The atmosphere is peaceful. The room was adorable and VERY clean. The tv was easy to use (so many are not lately). WiFi worked, lots of extra linens available in the room, very comfortable bed. But the BEST part was the breakfast. What? I didn't want to leave. The food was delicious. But the vibe was like a little farm house bed n breakfast tucked away off some rural country road - when you're fully In the middle of SoCal. Sit and face the estuary and you'll feel like you're in another world. Everyone was so pleasant and helpful. I can't wait to go back.

She kindly made sure we had everything we needed for a memorable stay, from early check-in to champagne, chocolates, and a beautiful welcome note in our upgraded gourgues room with the view. I live in an apartment building nearby…read moreand our hot water had been out for four days, so according to the city, the mgt had to pay to put us up somewhere "habitable." As a local, I had never had a reason to stay in a nearby hotel, but this looked charming and that was what I needed. Somewhere welcoming and cozy. Well..... it was cozy. Welcoming, not so much. Because I'd booked last minute via a third party, apparently they hadn't yet received my reservation. I walked in the front door, (it was unlocked), and then wandered down a small hallway until I saw a sign for "Reception," (there is no one to greet you as you walk in). The "reception" is tucked away around a corner of the kitchen. So, I wandered in there and was immediately admonished I should not be there, and rather coldly asked if I had a reservation. The woman also commented, more to herself than to me, that the front door should've been locked. Not my fault or problem. ANYway, once she finally did find my reservation, and realize I was there legitimately, she said that the room wasn't ready, (it was 5pm), and she'd have to make it up. That wasn't a problem for me, I waited in the living room area and helped myself to the wine and cheese, which was nice. She also, for the record, brought a small heater to my room when I asked if there was a way to turn down the air-conditioning, (it was centrally controlled, and turned off at sunset, so that was fine.) Also on the plus side, the location is nice, the bed was very comfortable, and hot water very hot, (which I greatly appreciated). But the place is showing its wear. There was a light on one side of the bed, but looked like the one that had been on the other had been removed (see pic). And there were small stains on the wall above the toilet. It could use a refresh, especially for almost $400/night. The breakfast which some rave about, was rather lackluster. All cold -- hard boiled eggs, some granola, fruit, hard bagels. I mean, it's ok, but there was nothing hot, and nothing to write home about. Maybe I hit a day when the cook was off? Finally, this review would've been four stars, but for the fact that when I went to check out I was again treated with the same cold and rather put out attitude(?) I asked if I could please get a copy of my receipt and was told it would be emailed to me later in the afternoon (?) Because I needed to turn this into the mgt company, I really wanted to make sure I got it, so I tried to explain my situation, (again no response to the reason I was there), and she quite reluctantly offered to print it out for me. Truly, there's a weird vibe to this place. Almost like you'd somehow wandered into someone else's home and they're annoyed to have you there. Maybe it was just my odd circumstances that made it so, but if the hot water ever goes out in my apartment again, I won't be returning.

When we arrived, we were greeted by Ele. She got us checked in and prepared a dish of crackers, cucumber and orange to address my car sickness. It worked like a charm. She set mom up with a glass of wine and a dish for the charcuterie table. This woman is an angel. The ambiance of the whole place was quiet and relaxing. Sitting by the fireplace looking out at the rain. I was here on work assignment. But Ele and her crew made it the best stay. The rooms are so that they are welcoming Iike home. Entering the room for the first time, we were welcomed with homemade cookies and very comfortable beds. This place is so close to everything. The beach, restaurants, nightlife and shopping. But tucked away. The beauty of the surroundings. The warmth and welcoming atmosphere. The peaceful music and quietness. The smells of baking and rosemary in the yard. The delicious breakfasts and afternoon wine and charcuterie. Every sense was pleased. The whole experience was fabulous. What we experienced from the MOMENT we arrived - absolute CHAOS. We were greeted with a horrible rotten egg stench as soon as we opened the door, steep stairs with no one elevator (yes that's on their q&a but just another annoyance), violence and screaming in the streets after dark until 3 am, bass from surrounding bars shaking the building until 2 am, overpowering chemical smell in rooms, single pane glass that sounds like people on the street are in the room with you, gaslighting owners and managers (Melissa - not Jackie), unreliable communication, absolute ripoff for what you have to put up with. Melissa ultimately minimized my concerns by saying "nobody else complained". Okay, and? People have different tolerance levels, different health issues, even if it was someone's first time at the snug harbor inn maybe it wasn't their first time to the island. Maybe they didn't care. Maybe they didn't have the energy to complain. That shouldn't invalidate my experience and the lack of transparency. Can you honestly say you laid the framework for guests to make an informed decision? Did you provide transparency around potential barriers guests may experience during your busy season? No. This went beyond just a fun foam party during the daytime hours, there were literal violent fights and screaming in the streets BOTH nights until 3-4 AM. See videos below from Saturday night around 1:30 AM. I do acknowledge they can't control this behavior but they can and SHOULD add transparency for folks who are expecting a soft experience based on their own misleading advertising. The unprofessional manager, Melissa, also loves to blame-shift. She told us we could press 0 or call a number provided if we experienced issues again on the second night. I called 2-3 times throughout the night and it rang endlessly. By this point I was exhausted and didn't even think to get the physical number from the end of the hall and just assumed they weren't answering. When Melissa told me she never received a call the next day I was shocked but instead of being apologetic she said "if it was me, I would have walked down the hallway and got the number". I'm so sorry, in hindsight, if I wasn't running off of 4 hours of sleep collectively over 48 hours I would have gotten dressed at 3 am and gone to the end of the hall after pressing 0 didn't "work". Not sure how I was supposed to discern between it not "working" vs someone not answering. Funny how pressing 0 during business hours worked just fine. Either way, what a ridiculous process to shoulder the burden of breaking up riff raff to the guest and then blameshift when the thing you said would work didn't... While I would love a full refund, I firmly believe we are entitled to at least one night of a refund because of the misleading description on the website and we couldn't make a truly informed decision. I was told they would consider updating the website in the future but that benefits my husband and I in no way. The right thing to do is provide a refund for tainting our visit to Catalina with 0 reprieve from street violence and drunken debauchery.

Last year, Vista and Snug were under the same ownership, which is no longer the case. Snug now has closer affiliation with Hotel Aurora a bit up the hill. Snug is a cozy and charming 6-room inn. There is staff on duty during the day; welcome in-room wine and snacks are provided as well as daily continental breakfast. There is no staff on the premises at night, although someone is on-call. My stay was lovely and somewhat surreal. I visited during the February rains which caused the cancellation of all Catalina Express boats on 2 days during my Avalon visit. This forced guests here for the long Valentines/Presidents Day weekend to leave early or relocate. I ended up being the sole guest for my 2-night visit! And with minimal visitors on the island, evenings were also pretty quiet, despite being right above the main drag (Crescent). Snug does provide earplugs and eye masks if needed. I moved up my arrival date due to the weather and Snug was able to accommodate me, even offering the same room, which was the Santa Catalina room, the inn's "crown jewel" situated on the corner with two large bay windows, one facing Avalon Bay with Casino, Bay and pier views, the other with a built-in window seat facing Sumner and the hills above. All rooms have a fireplace and deep soaking jetted tub. The rooms are not particularly large but are full of charm, coziness and warmth. No robes or slippers, but there were 2 clock/music/alarm machines. Complimentary reusable water bottles are provided; there's a water/ice machine in the hall. The welcome snacks offered were olives, pretzels and high-end nuts (i.e., no peanuts). The continental breakfast was quite ample and includes a small loaf of warm banana bread, yogurt, fresh berries, granola, milk, juice and coffee or tea. You fill out an order slip as to what you want exactly and what time you want it delivered. There are 6 delivery times for the 6 rooms, which of course was not an issue for my stay. There is a common room with a sofa, fireplace and machine for coffee and tea. There is a closet for luggage storage, a public restroom and umbrellas. The front door is open 8-5, key access is needed in the off-hours. Shout-outs to the great staff I met--Jackie, Destiny and especially Johnny at the front desk and housekeeper/breakfast preparer Alicia. Overall a fabulous stay. I usually split my time on the island between Mt Ada and a property "downtown". Snug Harbor has moved to the top of my downtown list!

There are some great views from the top and outside is nice and shady with big trees and a nice size porch. The owner and family were so welcoming as soon as we arrived. We enjoyed a spread of tea sandwiches, warm scones with clotted, cream and jam, fresh fruits, and an assortment of teas each of which were so delicious and perfectly prepared. My personal favorite was chai which is from a recipe from a family friend, my friends' favorites were the peach oolong, sencha with Matcha, and their rose black tea. We were able to try as many as we wanted! Service was amazing. Ellie was our host and server and she did such a great job. We had the whole space to ourself so it was so fun for an intimate tea party. Highly recommend!

We never actually ended up meeting Michael in person, as we were a very last minute booking, and over a holiday weekend while Michael was with family. He had some friends staying at his property who hosted us and we had a great experience. Breakfast was delicious, the room was clean, and the communication from Michael and his friends was great. To set expectations, this is not only a designated Bed and Breakfast, but also Michael's full time home and as such looks like a home that is lived in. It felt similar to staying over at a family members house, and we were extremely comfortable and felt welcome. If we are ever in the area again for work or fun I would not hesitate to see if Malibu Bella Vista is available.

Michael was a delightful host with a warm sense of humor, and he made a killer breakfast served on china and crystal, which we enjoyed overlooking his dramatic mountain views. If you're dining at Saddle Peak, staying with Michael is a real bonus. Also, Michael has installed locks on each rooms and provides a key, so your belongings are safe while you're out enjoying the area.

Whenever we head to LA to visit my in-laws we stay at a B&B that is within walking distance of…read moretheir home. On this visit however, they were booked for 2 of 3 nights we would be there. I secured the one night with them, but still needed a place for the other two nights. I did some research and after a cost comparison of the hotels in Century City, we decided that The Garden Cottage Bed and Breakfast was the best property for value and our needs. It's about a ten minute drive to the folks, but it's located in a lovely neighborhood. It is within walking distance to the Farmers Market at 3rd and Fairfax, and there are some wonderful restaurants nearby on W 3rd. The property is a duplex built in the 1930s. The B&B is the upper apartment and the garden cottage in the back. The proprietors, Ahuva and Bob, live in the lower unit. The grounds and exterior of the house are well maintained (in keeping with the neighborhood!). The apartment itself is lovely - beautifully furnished with high ceilings, hardwood floors, wool rugs, tile floor bathroom. Since we were the only guests the first night, we had the place to ourselves. We stayed in the Terrace Room. The four poster king sized bed, made up with top quality bedding and a down comforter, was very inviting and comfortable. French doors opened out to a covered terrace that overlooked the garden below and the city skyline. The sound of the fountain was soothing. In the room on a side table was a vase of beautiful flowers, a bowl of fruit, some candy, water carafe and glasses. Our room included a private bath with separate shower and tub. There was a nice selection of natural and organic body soaps and lotions, shampoos and conditioners, as well as other essentials. The living room, dining room and kitchen are the common areas of the apartment. It was easy to curl up in the over-sized couch and peruse one of the books or magazines in the living room. In the kitchen we found supplies to make a cup of tea or coffee. There is also a refrigerator if you want to chill a bottle of wine or two, or stash away some treats. We slept like a log. The following morning, our hosts laid out a beautiful breakfast for us. Coffee, juice, salami, assorted slices of cheese, croissants, bread, butter, jam, and a granola-fruit-yoghurt parfait. Not enough? Have your eggs any way you like - omelet, scrambled, poached - served with a salsa on the side. Everything was freshly made or baked locally, and organic products/ingredients where possible. It was a great jump-start to our day. We got back late that night. As we tiptoed to our room we could hear muffled, friendly chatter but it quickly faded as we drifted off to another great night's sleep. We met the new guests in the morning and had a nice conversation over another stellar breakfast. After they left, we also got ready to check out. Before leaving, we had the opportunity to chat extensively with Ahuva and Bob and learn a little bit about their home and family. Ahuva and I chatted about cooking, something we both have in common. She and I could have talked all day if we both didn't already have other commitments. We felt so welcome by their hospitality that we didn't want to leave. Street parking is easy. Bob gives you a guest residential parking permit to hang in your car during your stay, but mind the signs so you don't park on the wrong side during street sweeping days. The neighborhood is quiet and we felt safe walking around at night. Wifi is available. The connection seemed to be best in the living room, less so in our room. For us, the price of our room for two nights was a better value than staying at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. Our hosts were warm and friendly and couldn't do enough to make sure we were comfortable. They are on the top of the list of B&Bs to stay in LA.
