    Orange chicken
    Sue F.

I have visited my family outside of Lancaster twice in the last three months. In that time, I've been to Cafe East three times. Safe to say that I'm a big fan. We've been for lunch once and dinner twice. For some unknown reason, there have only been a few other diners each time. Location might be the problem - the restaurant is tucked in the back end of a large strip mall and you really don't see it if your not looking for it. I imagine that limits the foot traffic. It's a shame - everyone is missing a gem of a restaurant. Our servers have always been friendly and attentive and we've never had to wait very long for our food. Upon being greeted at the table, you are served what I've always called crunchy noodles with a duck sauce. I guess I'd consider it the Asian version of chips and salsa - don't fill up on it! All three times I've been there, we've ordered mango shrimp. It is one of the best meals I have had at an Asianrestaurant - a sweetish sauce loaded with large shrimp, strips of fresh mango and green peppers. It is absolutely delicious and definitely too much for one person to eat by themselves. The last time I was there I ordered orange chicken. The presentation was really pretty, in fact, the presentation of all the meals has always been special. We also shared drunken noodles - never a huge fan but this was delicious - and General Tso's chicken which was good but nothing special. Another visit, I ordered mu shu pork, one of my all time favorites. Their version did not disappoint. I ordered a special roll my first visit and for the life of me can't remember which one. All I remember is I was in awe of the presentation. Even with two veracious eaters, we've always had left overs to enjoy for lunch the next day. I'll be back in the area in November. There is little doubt in my mind that I will be back.

The store was nice and very clean so we waited. The food being cooked definitely made my mouth water a little. When we got it, we walked outside and sat down. The wait and the drive, was totally worth it. The Chicken melts into your tastebuds, spices were just right and we were in awe. Between the price and the delicious flavors, we will be absolutely coming back and bringing friends along for the ride.

When I first walked in the aromas were enticing and I was pretty much committed at that point. I ended up order the multi-meat rice bowl that came with pork, chicken and beef I believe. The sauces were nice and the black garlic was pungent but not too overpowering. Overall I was very pleased with the dish aside from one piece of protein that I wasn't able to identify. It was very hard and spongey. I wasn't able to sink my teeth into it but it gave off the earthy flavor that I sometimes associate with tripe. It seemed to be in there by mistake and so I put it to the side and tried not to think about it. Everything else was good and I appreciated the quick service and served-to-order freshness.

So after all these years I finally came back to Carlisle just so I could have that dish again. The ramen with the savory meat, the crisp veggies, the creamy avocado, and crunchy peanuts make for a perfect bowl of ramen! Plus, their milk teas are also great! The staff here is friendly and the restaurant itself is set up nice! I love Issei Noodle, and I hope I don't have to wait another 8 years to go back!

Total came out to approximately $43 (not including tip). What's hot - Menu. Pretty good. There's something for everyone, possibly even vegans. I'm uncertain whether they have vegetable broth, but they have options that are vegetarian. There's pho, ramen, rice, curry, meats, and tofu. - Quality. Pretty good. The chicken karage was not overly breaded, crispy, had a nice flavor. Lt was not overly salty and served warm. My tofu miso ramen was not overly seasoned, which I appreciate. One of my pet peeves is when noodle soups are too salty, because it detracts from what the natural flavor should be. My miso ramen had a nice seasoning. My husband really enjoyed his red curry. He said it had a slight kick of spiciness with a slight taste of sweetness from the coconut milk. - Portions. Pretty decent size portions to get you full, not stuffed. Good value for money. - Location. Centrally located in downtown around other shops and restaurants. What's not - Service. Among the 4 in our group, 3 of us had something wrong with our orders. My ramen arrived with no tofu. When our friends received their orders, it was completely wrong (I.e., they were given someone else's order). There were also mistakes in the dishes they actually ordered. Given all the errors, everything was delayed and took longer, which was frustrating. - Payment. You're expected to pay your tab before actual service, which includes tips, as well. Hubby and I aren't fans of that, especially given all the mistakes that our group encountered. - Parking. Since it's downtown, it's mostly timed and metered parking in the area. - Time. They close at 8pm. Our group was the last ones in the restaurant, which surprised us. As such, I asked their staff what time they close. When they responded 8pm, I asked them if our group should leave. The staffers told me that my group was ok, which we appreciated. However, we didn't stick around. Just be prepared that this is not a place you can continue to hang out in. Final answer Willing to return, but not a first choice.

Issei Noodle - The restaurant is small with some communal tables. Parking in downtown Carlisle can be challenging. Be sure to check the hours.
