Escadrille continues to be for a much older crowd. It is i also very expensive for what you get. We went back only because we received in the mail a $25 off coupon. I think they are trying to attract more business with this mailer, and they also now have a sushi bar which is an odd thing to add for this type of restaurant. Granted we were there on a weekday night around 8pm, but other than the bar, the place was pretty quiet. I think if they are hard up for money they should consider being open on Sundays. they would make a lot on brunch and/or sunday dinner. i have a feeling the banquet facility is what is keeping this place going. I ordered the Cod special which was to be topped with Jonah crab meat. it literally had two tiny bites of crab on top. When the bartender asked me how it was, i told him how there was no crab on it. He did go get me more crab meat, but it was shocking that this entree was $32.95 and cheap on the crab meat. Also the plate came out extremely hot which is often a sign of the food being microwaved. They are still cheap with only offering a salad and one side. And then if you want a caesar, its a $2 up charge. Drinks reasonably priced and strong. But i could have had an equal or better fish entree at Legal Seafoods for the same or less money and with two sides, in a much more contemporary atmosphere. We don't expect to dine there again unless we get another coupon. read more

The 3 stars are for the ambience of upscale decor,quiet dining room, lunch menu selections and our server Carlos. Unfortunately the lobster in the lobster salad was very tough. My husband said the steak tips were just ok. The kitchen split a profiterole for us so that was a plus. I'll give it another try but definitely not order lobster. read more

My company hosted the annual winter party at the Cafe Escadrille. People said good things about the food. I was looking forward to seeing co-workers get sloppy at the open bar. The facility is cute. The main lounge area shares the same room as the main door, though, which made for a cold rush as people filed in. Luckily, there is a beautiful gas fire place directly in front of the bar (nice). I didn't really like that the bathrooms were downstairs. When you're wearing really really high heels, walking at all is difficult and when you add the stairs factor ... well, it just ain't fun. In another area beyond the first bar lounge, food was arranged in one section while another bar was set up in the other. Dinner, music, and a dance floor was located in yet another room. Doors were closed until serving began. And to my dismay, coffee was not provided until dessert was ready. It took the caterers probably an hour after dinner was served to set everything up in the other room with doors closed. All I wanted was a coffee! AND to top it off, the coffee was not very good...kinda tasted like black pepper. Weird. Overall, it was a good party. There were a number of negatives including very expensive drinks after the open bar closed down, but listening to slurring bosses and observing strange dancing methods made the party well worth it. read more

Cafe Escadrille is a classy restaurant that provides a comparable experience to The Capital Grille without charging exorbitant prices. It's definitely one of my parents' favorite dining establishments when visiting me in the Boston suburbs. Escadrille offers a strong variety of continental cuisine, from steak to seafood, and there's always an amazing array of desserts. The atmosphere is nice and the location is convenient. I always look forward to our meals there and have found both the food and service to be of a great quality. They do not offer reservations every night of the week (with perhaps one exception on a holiday), so be sure to check beforehand and plan your evening accordingly. Also note that the Gourmet Room offers a similar menu, but at higher prices, so it's more about ambiance than anything else. The dining room provides a nice dining venue and should serve for a successful evening out. read more

Came here with my mom on March 13th for lunch. We have never been but the menu looked unbelievably good. Very crowded for a Wednesday but luckily we had reservations for 1pm. It was restaurant week so that could of been why.Our server was Carlos who was absolutely wonderful. Very helpful and friendly. He also knew what went into my moms dirty martini. Which tells you a lot if our sever can tell you right on the spot how it's made. I had the peach belini which was one of the best ones I've ever had. For our meal we shared appetizers and one entree. The appetizers we had were lamb lollipops, bacon wrapped scallops, and spinach oysters. Everything was delicious. The scallops were HUGE!! Our entree we split was the lobster stew. Just lobster in a yummy sauce but was perfect. Reminded us of a newburg sauce. It was served in two bowls instead of one which was very thoughtful and nice. The white wine Pinot Grigio mom had was one the the best she's had. Tried finding it at local liquor store but no luck. We shared bread pudding which was vanilla cherry flavored. Bread pudding is a weakness of ours so we had to have it. Will definitely be coming back. Our waiter knew everything and gave us lots of feedback of the choices we chose. This place is FABULOUS. The interior is gorgeous, the service is great, and the bar is reat. It's also the perfect place to go to with a large group of people for a special occasion. We ventured to Cafe Escadrille not really knowing what to expect and was happily surprised and sated by the well crafted cocktails and well thought out menu. Our appetizers: oysters Rockefeller and raw oysters were exceptional. Our entree was just as tasty, lamb and filet. We would have liked to have dessert but there was no room to put it. Cafe Escadrille is a medium/upscale restaurant chain with a nice 1920s ambiance. Mixed drinks are usually good (although it always depends on the bartender) and the food is always nice, though sometimes it's a bit on the heavy side. My big problem with Cafe Escadrille is that it's not very child-friendly. Last year we asked to sit at the bar and the Maitre-D told us that they couldn't allow a child to sit at the bar. It's not as if my daughter is going to be swigging beer, and it's not as if she's going to be emotionally scarred by seeing other folks drinking. Sometimes the American shame over alcohol just strikes me as stupid. Maybe this is a local bylaw or something, but it's a stupid one, and they're hardly going to shut a place down for letting a kid sit on a barstool. Some loony bylaws need to be broken. If it's just the restaurant's policy the owners need to grow up and stop being ashamed of alcohol - if they don't like beer they shouldn't be in the restaurant business. read more

The worst dinning experience we have had in a long time. I believe they forgot us. We asked about four open tables in Gourmet as we had waited way past the time given. Stephane Colinet (manager of Gourmet) was confrontational and rude to us through our entire dinner. This is making a long story short. We will never return to the Cafe Escadrille. Took mom for birthday . What a disappointment! Food was ok. Better food and flavor down the road at jimmys steak house, and 1/3 the price. Desert came from cosco with canned hot fudge glopped on top, not even heated up to disguise its true origin. 40.00 for a mediocre piece of meat is oathetic. Staff was burned out. Dont waste your hard earned money. If you are filthy rich and dont care about taste/value/service, youll love it. Over many years we've regularly dined at Escadrille for 1-2 times per month and have considered it to be around 4 stars. On July 7, 2020, we ordered, onion soup, clam chowder, oysters Rockefeller and a club sandwich. The meal and overall experience was so good that we returned for dinner on the 8th. Sadly, the food and experience on our follow-up visit did not even deserve 1 star. Steamed clams (without garlic): small portion, flavor was bland, many of the shells were crushed. Dinner salads: unbelievably small, a few small slivers of lettuce and a thin slice of tomato that barely covered the small salad plates. It was actually laughable. Roasted Long Island Duck was inedible. Taste and texture seemed to indicate that it been in a freezer, unwrapped for at least 2-3 months before being cooked. New York Sirloin: texture was weird! Very stringy. The steak also appeared to have been in a freezer, unwrapped, for at least 2-3 months before being cooked. Service: inexcusably slow. Would not return even if invited for a free meal! read more

I met my cousin here on Thursday night and we had a great experience. Our server did a wonderful job, as she was professional, personable, and gave us just the right amount of attention. The wine selection was good, and I LOVE it when a restaurant invests in good wine glasses! There's a great selection of hors d'ouvres and salads, and the menu was interesting. My salad was fresh and delicious. I had a sole special that surprised me in that it was HUGE! I just don't think of a filet of sole as being able to fill the plate, but it was well cooked and delicious. I'd return to try other menu items. read more

My husband and I had dinner tonight, we hadn't been to this restaurant since covid. We each had a cocktail before dinner, ordered a bottle of wine with dinner and decided to splurge on a pricier wine than we normally would order ($120). We received the check and were charged for 5 glasses totaling $175. I brought it to the dining room manager's attention (the same fellow who opened the bottle for us) and he apologized and said he would fix the check. He brought the adjusted check and we were charged $140 for 4 glasses of wine. I again asked why we were not charged the price listed on the wine list of $120. He said that they didn't charge "by the bottle pricing", that they charge by the glass even when a bottle is ordered. What??? Suddenly, we received a check (and some snark from the server) that had the one bottle listed at the advertised price. Super awkward way to end what should have been a nice night out. Went here for Mother's Day with my family a large group. This is a sit down restaurant were food is not served quickly. Our waitress Danielle was awesome. There should be servers to help bring food out to the tables. Our waitress did everything. Most of the food we ordered did not have a lot of seasoning. However my mother ordered lamb which was tasty. My fiancé and I went here on Saturday night for the first time. We both have worked in restaurants and tend to be picky about food. I can't say enough good things about our meal. We started with the special, fried clams. The chicken Milanese was perfect and so tasty. Our server, Wilson, recommended getting the sauce on the side and I'm glad he did because the chicken stayed nice and crispy. The only thing better than the food was the service. Wilson was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive from beginning to end. All in all I would say this is one of, if not THE best dining experience we have ever had! read more

The BEST Prime Rib in New England hands down but anything on this terrific menu is prepared with excellence in the kitchen and is delicious. Home made clam chowder and caesar salad also fantastic. My daughter and I went into the Café Escadrille and met with Mario to book a surprise birthday party for my wife. From the moment we called until our last guest left, we were treated like family. The staff at the Café Escadrille were professional, courteous and made all of my guests feel welcome. The property was clean and professionally run and the food was enjoyed by all. I attended a wedding reception at this upscale dining establishment and was very pleased overall with my experience. I was off the clock at this one and was an invited guest so it felt nice to just relax and enjoy e ambiance. Although I have been her a few times prior to this the reception experience is a bit different. It did have a bit of a cookie cutter dinner selection but hat is to be expected sometimes with a large group. It actually was very good for me to attend. Now when I suggest his place to a bride and groom I can give some ideas for enhancements to m,are it their own special touch. All in all it was lovely and the food was very good read more

My fiancé and I absolutely love cafe escadrille. So we are in our twenties and live down the street from the restaurant- yes it is an older crowd and the decor is reminiscent of a 1980s New Jersey banquet hall, but the food and service are amazing. We've been for lunch and dinner. The seafood fettuccini Alfredo is surprisingly to die for. The cocktails are superb. And the servers are some of the nicest servers I've ever had at a restaurant. I recently hosted a wedding shower at Cafe Escadrille and could not be more pleased with how everything turned out. The event coordinator was extremely helpful and was able to have the kitchen adapt some of their standard menu items to be gluten free without compromising the flavors or quality. The waitstaff on the day of the event were amazing. They were professional and friendly and really helped everything run smoothly. Horrible people to deal with. Ordered a gift card on June 3rd for a family member and it never arrived. Called them on the 14th and they suggested I contact the post office - as if the post office doesn't know what to do with mail. Called back on the 16th and the girl who answered said she would leave a message for "Marco" to call me back. He did not.  I called them again on the 17th and spoke to Marco who said he needed to speak with the GM and would call me back tomorrow. He did not. I called them again on the 18th and Marco said the GM would be in later and the first thing on his to do list was to speak to the GM and he would call me back. He did not.  I called again on the 18th and spoke to "Kerri" the manager on duty - who was NOT the GM, go figure.  I told Kerri that I had been trying all week to either get a new card issued or a refund. Her response was that they might make an exception and refund the money even though they are not responsible for lost cards - evidently they consider a card "lost" even if they were the ones who lost it or if it was never received and only the GM has access to process credit card refunds.  I gave them the order number and card number so all they need to do is put a stop on the missing card and issue a new one or refund the money but apparently this is too difficult for them to figure out.  At one point "Kerri" hung up on me - I heard the sound of the handset hit the cradle and I had to call back at which point she innocently claimed, "oh I thought you had hung up". I've never eaten in this place but if the food is as bad as the customer service you'll probably need a vomit bag. Guess I'll be calling them back on Monday the 21st. read more

I have been to Cafe Escadrille 3 times in the past year. Once was on the restaurant side for a 50th birthday family dinner and twice on the function side for holiday buffets. Each experience was exceptional. I can't say enough about the atmosphere, the service and the quality of the food. On each occasion we celebrated at Cafe Escadrille, the staff went out of their way to also personalize the special occasion. I have been here several times and most of the time the food was good, however, quite pricey. The people who go to this restaurant are usually 50 years old and above- not that there is anything wrong with that. Also, I did not think the service was bad. Someone had mentioned going to the Bancroft instead of this place, but let me tell you, the Bancroft is much more expensive for the small portions that you do get. I have to say that it is more upscale looking at the Bancroft and their customers are more of the business type clientele and a bit younger. So it just depends what you are looking for and what you are willing to pay. Lastly, I have to say the bartenders at the Bancroft are quite knowledgeable about different types of mixed drinks. If not for the food, try some of their mixed drinks. read more

It has been well over 30 years since having been to the Escadrille. The place is as great as I remember. I was concerned about the décor as lots of older places (open since about 1975) but not hear. They have managed to expand and yet remain fresh and up to date without loosing it's charm. The service as well as the food continues to be exceptional and of the highest quality. Outstanding steaks and seafood choices at reasonable prices. My visit: Made reservations via their website in advance. Parking: tons of parking around the building. Arrived about an hour early as we wanted to sit and have a drink, found two seats at the busy bar, bartenders quick to take our order. Good IPA and mixed drink choices. Walked to desk at time of reservation and was promptly seated, host staff was courteous and efficient. Bread and drink order delivered promptly, waiter (Sean) listed specials , gave us time to enjoy shrimp cocktail apps and provided excellent feedback to our questions and showed up always at the right time. Meals: stuffed shrimp and blackened prime rib entries arrived with caesar salads were outstanding, prime rib with mashed out of this world !!! shrimp large sized with great stuffing were also very flavorful. Both meals had salad choices and rice/veggie/potato options. Meals, drinks and apps came up to $125 for two of us which we thought was reasonable for such a nice dining experience. Meals are on average about $35-40 and king crab legs top out at $65. Its a great place for fine dining. The place has that classy feel yet is low key enough to have nice conversation. On a Friday night the place is packed so it can get noisy but the delicious food more than made up for that. I will be back for sure and will definitely get the blackened prime rib! My advice: 1. Reservations. Always get them and they will set aside your table 2. Get there an hour before and enjoy a cocktail, it helped us relax and enjoy the night out. 3. This is a staple restaurant that has gone up and down over the years, but I don't think i'll be going back again. Six of us had dinner there on Friday night, including various appetizers, dinner and wine -- not an inexpensive dinner and overall okay but not great... The service was excellent, all but for the restaurant manager, who couldn't have ruder if he'd tried - actually, wait - he did try. Our dinners were okay -- one person had scrod, two others had the seafood stew special, the only entree that was noteworthy was the prime rib. The food - not bad, but nothing any of us would order again so that speaks volumes, and an unpleasant display by the manager was astonishing, in a hugely negative way... I ordered a $12 crab leg appetizer that was still partially frozen and the waitress graciously took it back, apologizing since she said they are flash frozen and defrosted before being served on ice. No big deal, until the angry manager arrived at the table moments later, in firm defense of the crab leg and demanding to know why I'd sent it back, contradicting the waitress by saying they were NOT frozen, then rudely asking me if I knew how to eat them.(!) This was the MANAGER, who you would have thought would apologize and want to know the nature of the dissatisfaction so as to prevent it again? Think again - it was an astounding display or arrogance and customer indifference - he left before I could tell him to charge me for it if he was that personally offended. $12 - seriously. Otherwise average but over-rated, and overpriced for average. I'd have given it two stars but for the manager's behavior since that was just over-the-top poor. read more

This is a tough one to review. I am in my 40's, I have been coming here since I was in my teens. In all my years I have only been seated in one area. I hate sitting near the windows on the tiled floor. It is so LOUD out there and in the winter it is cold. Last night there were just 2 in my party and even with reservations I was seated at a tiny table next to 4 large parties right near the windows and inches from the live band. A nice night out talking with my teen was lost. I could hardly hear her from across the table. However, the service was good. The food was excellent. My daughter was thrilled to see baked brie on a menu and was in heaven eating it. Our dinners were just perfect. I had prime rib she had a chicken dish, both were cooked perfectly. My daughter is a huge junk food eater, how she is so tiny I have no idea.. she likes salad but ONLY with one kid of dressing, although it wasn't offered the waiter told her he could get it for her, and he did. She spoke of how wonderful it was that someone went out of their way for her. Something so small made a big difference in her dinner, she felt very special. The fun part of the night was dessert. They offer minis, I don't often order dessert unless there is a smaller portion simply because I would rather finish dinner and just have coffee, I don't really have much of a sweet tooth. My daughter does have a sweet tooth though, and she couldn't wait for dessert. She had decided on chocolate mousse and they did have a mini bread pudding which is my favorite dessert, they had a third so I ordered it just because. The coconut cream mini pie was the surprise of the night!! My daughter and I split it, it was simply amazing. Overall I like the food here but I hate siting in an area that is just so loud I can't talk to the person I am with. I have been in cafeterias that offered a better noise level. Should I ever be offered a seat inside the restaurant instead of the outskirts I may add a star. read more

I took my wife and in-laws visiting from Brazil to the Escadrille last night (drove 40 minutes since we no longer live in the area). My wife and I have dined here in the past and really enjoyed the food and the service. I can honestly say since the last time we've been there, over a year the place has changed and not for the better. After the waitress brought our water it seemed to take forever for her to ask us what we would like to drink. I was about to go find the maitre D' but my wife kept me under wraps. Her philosophy is to never makes waves when dining due to retribution from the kitchen. :-) I don't agree. In any event, my main disappointment was the swordfish entree. I took one bite and the message to my brain was previously frozen and not fresh. Swordfish is one of my most favorite foods and what a disappointment. Ok, so I got the waitresses attention and sent it back. I want you to keep several things in mind. This is the first time I've ever sent food back to the kitchen, this is how bad it was. Since I do all the food shopping and cooking at home, I've prepared swordfish hundreds of times and it never tasted like this or other restaurant I've consumed swordfish. They brought me another one which was less fishy than the first but still not great. I did eat it, because i was ravished at that point and two the rest of my party was waiting for me. My wife had her heart set on bringing her parents to ColdStone Creamery, just up the road. But it was closed by the time we left. I also, didn't care for the waitresses attitude when I commented on the taste of the fish. She got defensive and claims they filet it in house, etc. etc. All I can say is if we had gone to the capital grill, burton's grill, Del Frisco's, Bonefish or Smith and Wollensky's; the food and service would of been phenomenal. My father in-law can't eat salad due to a chronic digestive condition. My wife asked if they could substitute any kind of rice. The answer was no. You got to be kidding me. My wife got the baked stuffed shrimp, she was also disappointed but as I indicated previously she never sends food back to the kitchen. I try to explain to her when in the US not some other parts of the world where people do nasty things, but I've failed to convince her. :-) So needless to say we are not rushing back or recommending Escadrille.
