Quality goes down, but prices go up. Strange how that happens! I reviewed this place on Google in August 2021 before I was doing Yelp reviews. I gave it 4 stars at that time. Today, I give it 3 stars. To start, the garnish bar went from 11 items to 8. My biggest complaints: they took away the shredded parmesan cheese and the croutons are not as good. I had to go to the counter to ask for the parmesan, but this time is was thick ribbon strips. Salt & pepper was removed from the tables, so one more thing you have to retrieve for yourself. So, you have an order number on a stand to carry to your table, your drink, silverware, salt & pepper, garnish... and no tray. Not a huge deal. I just made several trips, hence the reason I do not tip places like this. I ordered the same salad I had last time. I used to like it, but today is was meh. The pasta was a little hard, the pine nuts were lacking, the lettuce was arugula, which I don't like and the chicken salad had very little flavor. The atmosphere is okay. They have a lot of seating available, including outdoor with umbrellas to shade the tables. Service was friendly and they have good iced tea. Stopped in for lunch but first visited ladies room. Stomach turned at the condition. Toilet and fixtures are broken and damaged and filthy. Floors are not clean, a nasty toilet brush was in the corner of the bathroom. I took care of my business, washed my hands and proceeded into the restaurant. All with a sick feeling in my stomach. Ordered takeout on Sat afternoon for lunch - the lemon chicken with mashed potatoes and broccoli with some garlic bread and the trio with soup, sandwich, and salad for two. Their site does not allow you to order online. At least it didn't when I tried. You either have to use Uber eats or grub hub which tacks on a few extra $$. I have never had an experience like I did here. I was with my mom and boyfriend. We sat and waited at least 20-24 minutes for our food. When it came we were given the wrong food. So then final straw was when it came back wrong again. I finally went to the counter and asked for my food, where no one in the staff responded to me. So I finally told the manager, give me a salad and let's be done here. I then talked to her; where she proceeded to tell me how busy they were with catering and to go orders. Really?!? So you would rather lose paying in store customers then have the to go orders go bad?? Wow. Finally I just said, you really need to focus on the people inside here. I do frequent Café Express from time to time and usually go with my go to item; Triple Deli Salad. Its a nice sized salad made from fresh spring mix, and it has tuna salad, chicken salad, and pasta shells which I think is why this salad is called the Triple Deli. They have a separate section where you can add more items to your salad such as garbanzo beans, pickles, crackers, croutons, red dried pepper, olives, garlic etc which kicks the salad up a few notches. My salad turns to be pretty good every time. They have an extensive menu of sandwiches, soups, burgers, and other entrees, all of which sound pretty good for lunch. They have a different version of soda pop. I believe they are the ones made from sugar cane. Also a nice selection of teas that are available. The turkey cobb salad is another favorite of mine & a heavenly mix of spring mix, avocado, chopped bacon, blue cheese, boiled egg, tomatoes & turkey tossed in a red win vin. When ordering a sandwich, you can not go wrong with the Romesco Avocado, a vegetarian sandwich that is chock full of avocado, spring mix, feta & roasted tomatoes on a ciabatta bun. Today I learn why this place is called cafe express. 11$ salad My mistake I Thought grill chicken meant it would be hot and not 2 maybe 3 day old cold chicken. The lettuce was at least a day old . I'm not sauce how expensive ranch is but mine was clearly watered down. 14$ cheeseburger It's magic to be able to make a burger where half of it is hot and the other half is cold. They tried to throw it together last minute and it came out all wrong. I always get 2 of the same salads. The guy scrambled to make the salad and when I got home I found it wasn't even the right one. I thought ok, maybe it's just a fluke. Then just this past Sunday I tried it out again. Same order, 2 salads and kids shells pasta with marinara. Kids pasta looked half eaten. Maybe 25-30 shells and 1 tablespoon of marinara max. I've never seen a kids meal look this shitty in my life. On top of that, there is a random rigatoni pasta in there. It was literally like they did not give a f***. I will never go back and I absolutely love the Caesar salad so this really bothers me. I've been going here for over 15 years.
