Met up with some friends at the 5th Street Marketplace. Decided to try out Cafe Glendi. The woman working the counter was quite personable. I ordered a veggie wrap since I wasn't too hungry. At $4.95 it's a great deal. If you're hungry though it might not be enough. You can add a side salad for $2. Less than $7 for a lunch is still a great bargain. The wrap was good and the veggies tasted fresh. I didn't have much of a wait but it was kind of an off time to stop in. Not sure how it would be during the lunch rush. read more

How have I not written a review here yet?? Cafe Glendi is such a solid 4, and a truly perfect lunch spot in the Yewj. Like James C., my memories of this place seem to go on forever. How long has it been, Glendi? Five, ten years? What I do know is that, if you want a healthy, fast lunch, for under $8 in Eugene, then this place is your go-to. Situated in the northwest corner of 5th St. Market's second floor "Food Court," is my favorite Greek place in town. My standard lunch is one of their plate specials (usually chicken or gyro), which include rice pilaf, tzatziki, greek salad, and pita along with the skewer of your choice. The price: $6.95!!!!!!!!!!! I always leave feeling satisfied and pumped to greet whatever the afternoon holds for me. Great stuff. So, like I said, if you know of a better deal for lunch--please start a Eugene Yelp list and PM the heck out of me. 'Cause right now, I think Glendi's got it covered. read more

I've been going to this place with my family for over a decade, and it's still the best mediterranean food I've ever had. It's the only place I go to in the 5th street building and it's the only restaurant that's been here for so long probably because they have so many regular customers, and the owner is almost always there. I wouldn't go anywhere else in Eugene for mediterranean food because nothing compares honestly. Any recommendation is to get a gyro or the plate (my fav is salmon or the vegetarian plate) and try either one of the soups because they're both delicious. Also the dolmades are the best here imo. I hadn't been to Cafe Glendi in a while, and was seriously craving some Greek food (random!) It hasn't changed much. It is a great place to sit and eat. The menu is very straightforward and easy to understand, and the staff (Husband/Wife?) are very friendly, eager to help, and accommodating. All food items are cooked fresh to order, which I did not know until my last visit! I was concerned about what ingredients might be in the marinade, so they just made me an unmarinaded chicken skewer. The pita was fresh, and grilled for just the right amount of warmth. The salad was pretty and was not pre-mixed. Delicious! Parking at 5th Street can be hairy, and the chairs aren't exactly designed for comfort, but this place is well worth the visit. read more

Wanted to spread the wealth a try a new Mediterranean place. Really want to be supportive and gentle with our restaurants but won't try here again. Salmon plate - dry and overcooked, the "salad" that came with had 1 cherry tomato cut in half, 2 olives, and a light dust of feta, really just lettuce. Tzatziki watery and flavorless. Same with the soup. Lamb and chicken Skewers fair. All of this for $41 delivered in reasonable time. Would suggest increasing quality by decreasing quantity but portions are small as is. read more

The chicken skewers are delicious, the rice is also good, however, the avgolemono is completly flavorless. I was expecting the pop of flavors typically found in avgolemono but sadly, it was just an eggy and watery mess with zero lemon flavor. read more

Had souvlaki gyros with salad on the side. Tasted ok, but the sandwich was so tiny I couldn't believe the side salad was an extra charge. I mean, there was maybe 3oz of meat and a few leaves of lettuce, plus bit of tzatziki yogurt sauce. Mostly it was pita. I mean, who skimps on gyros? This place has been around forever. The salmon and chicken plates are great. They come with salad, feta cheese, some tzatziki, rice and warm pita bread (plus some other tidbits I am probably forgetting) . The gyros are also great and my favorite is the veggie gyro, but the chicken and the lamb/beef are great also. The food is remarkably consistent and the prices are good. The 5th Street Market is lacking something in ambiance which is hard to qualify, but don't let that stop you. read more

This food tastes like it was cooked a day or two previously and then nuked in the microwave before serving. Not recommended.

Cafe Glendi is the first Greek food restaurant I have tried and it is amazing. I have tried the salmon plate, salmon salad, and lamb skewer. My friend tells me the gyros are amazing but I haven't had the chance to try it yet. The Tzatziki sauce is wonderful. I'm assuming the owner is the lady always working the counter, speaks English with a heavy accent but you can tell she cares about the food going out. read more

I love greek food, Cafe Glendi is really good greek food in a food court type place. If they had a full restaurant it would be hands down my favorite place to eat in Eugene. The food is always fresh and very reasonably priced. The owners usually at the counter and so nice. If they have Baklava on the counter buy some, i will be the best you ever had and fresh today. We brought some appetizer dishes to the Oregon Soccer potluck and everybody loved the food! We ordered the humus (a tad spicy and incredibly delicious) and pita bread, Spanakopeta (really crispy and light pastry with spinach inside) with some Taziki sauce, and delicate hand rolled Dolmades. The owner loaned us three plates to bring all the food to our party and everybody thought we made these Greek dishes...ha ha, we told everyone to go to Cafe Glendi :-) Must try the lamb dish next time we are town. read more

Cafe Glendi is without a doubt my favorite food establishment in the 5th street market. They make fantastic and authentic Greek food with high quality and delicious ingredients. The pita is always cooked perfectly, the lamb-beef gyros is delicious and cooked to perfection and the tzatziki is always a delicious tangy treat. The owners and their employees are very friendly, and always remember me and my girlfriend when we show up. Service is always quick and I've never had a bad meal. The gyros are always delicious, with fresh tomatos and lettuce and dripping with tzatziki. The lamb gyro salads are also delicious. The baklava is crunchy and sweet, and probably some of the best in town. Everytime I eat at the 5th Street Market, Cafe Glendi will always be my first choice! read more

Just one suggestion however, I think the owner should consider hiring a counter person who will offer a sincere smile....a simple "thank you for coming in " would go a long ways with me. I star is overly generous. Let's be honest. This food is terrible and a disgrace to what Mediterranean food is supposed to represent. My red headed Irish wife, who tasted Med for the first time just a couple of years ago could put this place to shame...especially with her humus. When they say "plate", they mean GiJoe action figure sized plate. $8.50 for 4 little marble sized pieces of lamb, a heaping pile of romain lettuce and a box of Zatarains curry rice.... Terrible!!! This is one of the restaurants inside the 5th st market "food court" so don't expect to see a streetside front door. You'll need to find it inside the 5th st market building. Cafe Glendi has healthy options that seem to be prepared fresh. I had a combination plate that had falafel, tzaziki (sp?) sauce, hummus, salad, etc. The hummus was just right, not too thick like other hummus. Falafels were nicely crunchy on the outside and had balanced spice on the inside. It came out quick and seemed reasonably priced, not cheap, but not overpriced as it is higher quality fresh ingredients. read more
