You can really taste the difference in quality here versus other sushi restaurants. We tried the sashimi set which also came with fried rice- even though we shared one order, it was pretty filling and worth the price point. None of the sashimi pieces had a fishy taste to it and had a nice texture to it. It also came with little popping bobas that was actually really good with the sashimi! The set came with otoro AND chutoro and those pieces usually go for $10 a piece at other places. I do wish the sashimi cuts were a bit thicker but that is my usual preference! We were looking for a quick bite to eat this evening and found Cafe Ile on Yelp. They opened 7 months ago and are located just across from the Boro. The restaurant is clean and inviting. The service phenomenal and everyone was really friendly. Their table service was great. They were very attentive and cleared dishes promptly to make room for more, topped off drinks, and regularly checked in to see if we were happy with each dish. Overall, it was a lovely experience and their presentation for each dish is on point. We started with the spicy sashimi salad. I was so excited to eat it I forgot to get a photo of it. Wow, it's large and there is a lot of quality sashimi. The dressing was a little tangy and spicy. The spice wasn't overpowering. My husband isn't big on spice and and he loved it. Next we ordered the tuna tadaki. The tuna was perfectly seared with jalapeño dressing. On top of the tuna was a fruity combo of pineapple and onion. It added the perfect balance and paired well with the tuna. The chef also brought us tuna with jalapeño, and cilantro. It was very tasty. For our main we shared the sushi combo with the roll. Wow, every piece of fish was so flavorful and fresh. There were about 10 pieces of nigiri total. To end our meal we shared the affogato dessert. The espresso gave us a pick me up and we enjoyed the sweet treat with the ice cream. We have spent a lot more at other places in the area and we both agree this is the best quality sushi we have found. They have Omakase by reservation Monday-Thursday at 5:30. We went to Cafe Ile for wonderful date night! complementary plate of sides (corn/ edamame mix, seaweed salad, calamari, shredded nori, and a seaweed salad) 10/10 I got a sashimi combo. The fish is the almost the same sushi combo my fiancé got, but it was plated with a sauce on one side and sweet popping pearls on the other side. It also came with a plate of fried rice 9/10 as everything was good, but the fried rice wasn't super flavorful. The sushi combo does come with an extra roll and they do warm the rice in the nigiri 10/10 To finish it off we got a crème brûlée and it was really sweet, creamy, and balanced with the berries on top! Dined with a group of three at Cafe Ile. The hostess was able to seat us without a reservation. We received a complimentary dish of edamame, Seaweed salad (delicious), nori, and octopus. I ordered the shishito peppers and absolutely loved it. It was nicely plated and included green beans, onions and peppers. It was a wonderful dining experience until dessert came around and then the staff neglected us. They were super attentive until they started ignoring my boyfriend and I, and only focused on the other 3 customers in the tiny restaurant. We waited 30 min just to pay, and this was after we waited awhile for the check. After having to watch as our server paid attention to everyone but us, including new customers that just arrived, my boyfriend got up to the cash register to pay, and only then were they helpful. At this price point, and because the restaurant was basically empty near the end of the night, the service was not up to standard. The staff are super nice and friendly; they just need to improve on timing. We got the omakase, and the dishes were pretty good, but not worth the high price tag. The fish wasn't as silky or fresh as I would expect from an establishment like this, but I did like that they polish their silverware and seem to love what they do. The food presentation was gorgeous and unique. The ambiance was cute and the decor gave off a cozy and fresh atmosphere. Service is top notch. I love the ambiance because it is a quiet restaurant where you can talk quietly and be heard. If you are with a party of three or more I highly recommend the Chef's Island. It is a beautiful presentation of sushi, sashimi and cooked fish. I also always get the spicy tuna and nori as an appetizer which is so good. This place is intimate, and understatedly elegant. Cafe Ile is still my go-to restaurant for sushi in NoVA. When people ask for my favorite sushi place, I direct them here. I've been here several times now, but exclusively for lunch. It never seems to be busy when I eat lunch here, which I don't mind at all. I actually kinda like that it's so empty lol. I think the quality of the fish here is pretty good, albeit still pricey, but everything is kinda expensive currently I guess. The menu has been updated recently - I usually stick to the combo that includes the tempura roll. Most recently, I tried the eel donburi - pretty delicious. The rice had interesting pickled veggies in it, and a nice yuzu-based seasoning I think (or some type of fragrant citrus). The yuzu flavor was really nice - something I never really experienced before at other sushi restaurants. If this wasn't all the way in Tyson's, I'd probably go more often lol read more

It was by pure luck that we decided to go here-- we were looking for a sushi restaurant that is near IAD airport. The place was small but decorated attractively. We were seated immediately and given menus to peruse. Started with the typical edamame and seaweed salad. The restaurant also sent some delicious corn soup to start. We saw an amazing plate on our neighbor's table so we ordered the same --a beautiful box with spicy tuna and spicy salmon (we opted for non spicy), double salmon and double tuna and a volcano combo! A wrongly-ordered tamago was followed by a free duo of berry flavored roe and wasabi flavored roe. Both were excellent. The uni sushi was the freshest we've ever had. Also ordered vegan sushi with burdock root (yum) etc, a yellowtail combo and ramen. Everything was so good that I think this could easily be my favorite sushi place. The space is small and intimate. Service was so friendly and inviting. The fish quality here was superb. Walked in on a Monday evening without a wait (it is Monday after all). I can feel that the owners are passionate about the restaurant and trying hard to make everything nice! Very friendly waitress and she even randomly gave us salmon cheese toast on the house. It was pretty yummy with something that popped and a nice savory flavor. They gave free appetizers of edamame and corn (tasted like it's been out too long and lost texture), some kind of octopus or squid thing, dried seaweed and seaweed salad. The scallop carpaccio is like 4/5. Great mix of flavors with the toppings and the scallop itself was buttery and soft, better than most places! However they literally only give you 2 pieces which I wish they gave more for the price. The sushi dinner was great! 4/5 the fish itself was 5/5! So fresh and soft and tasty and much better than almost all other places in the dmv. No fishiness at all and delicious. So many tuna and toro pieces as well which really makes this worth the price. However, I am taking off a point because the rice was just not that good. It was under seasoned, cold and kinda dry like it had been out. If the rice was warmed and seasoned more this place could rival some of the places we had in New York. Crème brûlée is an absolute must!! 10/10 I've never had a crème brûlée have such a nice vanilla taste. It was creamy but also amazingly light. I could eat 10 of these. The crunch was so nice and added sweetness to the brûlée which is perfect since the rest of it was not too sweet. The restaurant is pretty small so it might be a good idea to get a reservation but it is cozy and gives off a coffee shop feel (which it also is! Cafe Ile is an interesting restaurant-cafe concept, where they have normal cafe options like pastries and desserts (e.g. apple strudels and creme brulee), coffee and other high-end cafe eateries like avocado toast, but they also have an extensive sushi menu. Definitely a unique take, as the interior and vibe of Cafe Ile could lean either "casual brunch cafe" or "sushi". It felt like there were two different restaurants in one room, haha. The space is definitely on the smaller side, so I imagine it would be pretty busy during dinner time. I'm hesitant to give it a 4/5 because the service here was amazing. I've never had such an attentive server or staff, and I felt welcomed by multiple employees here. One server led me to the bathroom and made sure it was clean before I used it. I was checked in on multiple times throughout my meal, and the server took note of things I did/didn't like. They even offered me free dessert in the end (which I had declined since I'm trying to watch my figure, lol) so I ended up getting a cold brew instead. I do want to say Cafe Ile has shown me the best hospitality I've encountered in a long time. After ordering, I was given some side dishes. My favorite was definitely the crispy nori (which I think you can order as an appetizer) because it was so savory and crispy and delicious. It was surprising how much umami exploded in my mouth upon the first bite. The buttered corn and edamame were also tasty because... butter, lol. The other two side dishes were great, too! SUSHI+ COMBO - 40 This is a bit to splurge on a lunch, but it's definitely well-worth the price. This combo comes with 10 nigiris and a shrimp tempura roll (which I substituted with the yellowtail roll). The presentation was beautiful - each piece of nigiri was spread apart on the onyx platter. Overall, very fancy, haha. The server also took the time to go over each piece of fish with me so I knew what I was eating. The pieces that stood out the most to me were definitely the salmon belly (super fatty and umami bomb), toro (the ultimate melt in your mouth umami explosion), and the yellowtail (so underrated, yet good). The other pieces were delicious, too. I thought my tuna was too fishy, but otherwise, the flavor was good. One thing I didn't like is that they sneak a bunch of random ingredients and garnishes in between the rice and fish. For example, the yellowtail had a small slice of jalapeno and parsley (or was it cilantro?) in between that I had to take out. The salmon had some onions, which was fine. I'm glad the salmon belly and toro just came with rice, haha. Other pieces had other random things snuck in, too. Similarly, the yellowtail roll had peppers and parsley wrapped in, which I didn't quite enjoy. My server definitely took note of that and made sure I enjoyed my meal for the most part. Besides that, this was definitely a great deal because you get a lot for $40. The fish quality was pretty top-notched for the most part. COLD BREW Definitely very refreshing end, never thought I'd have coffee at a sushi restaurant, haha. I'm giving this 4 stars rather than 3 solely due to the quality of the sushi and fish overall. It is a very small restaurant, but even still, it seemed understaffed. There was one waitress working the night I was there and she had to handle every table plus all the togo/take out orders it seemed - and there were at least 2 or 3 too orders being worked at any point in time. The menu is small but well done minus a few typos, the eel combo was duplicated, and one of the sakes seemed to be priced strange. It felt like all the other orders were being handled before the ones for people in the restaurant itself. It took way too long to have our order taken and even longer to get the food itself. The server was very friendly, and the manager (I think) noticed and brought out a free dish - though one of the people in my group couldn't eat it. I will say it felt like the manager was standing around for way too long before stepping up to help out with the guests in the restaurant, though eventually she did. It just felt weird. The inside was nice and upscale, the fish and food were tasty, and it was pretty busy, but the service fell short. Maybe someone called out or something out of the control, but it ended up not being a great experience. I would come back to see if they have improved, the food was that good. read more

This sushi cafe was a blessing in disguise. Literally a disguise! Looks like a cafe, serves cafe items, but also, serves sushi and serves it well. Such a welcome surprise! The sushi was fresh, firm, and tasty. Looking at the menu, it seemed to consist of basic, classic rolls, but to my surprise again, they were served with a slight twist. Small but impactful changes were the addition of pickled veggies in some of the rolls, a fine furikake seasoning, tempura'd rice balls, and a version of Japanese "ban chan" to start your meal. This included a seaweed salad, edamame beans, cold marinated ika salad, and a corn and green bean dish. The rolls are unique and full of flavor! The fish was surprisingly fresh for a Sunday evening and, if I dare say, one of the best sushi places I've been to up here in the NOVA area. We had a large party (11) but we called ahead and they were really nice about accommodating us. It's a fairly small restaurant, but they gave us our own small section in the back corner (which will fit 12 tightly at 3 separate tables if you're looking to dine with a large party).
