Everything is spicy and flavorful without being over the top. Not too greasy, either. Great food, uncompromising customer service. After a long tiring day at work, I had my food ordered through grubhub from Cafe India. The delivery drivers switched up the orders and I got the wrong ordered delivered to my place after 45 minutes of waiting. I called grubhub and told them the situation and they replied with 'sorry, will refund the amount'. While they provided an appropriate solution, it didn't help me get any less hangry!! Soon, I got a call from Ms Vijaya from Cafe India with an apology and she went above and beyond to get my order delivered to me. I swear, the gas station location is the best indian food in town. My husband and I order food here regularly, and it's fresh, delicious and made to order. We don't do the lunch option often, but it is also wonderful when we do. It's always my first recommendation when people ask where to get good indian food. read more

Great food, made fresh daily with a real tandoor oven. I tried the Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken, both were very good. The Garlic Naan was also delicious. The meal was perfectly punctuated with some Rasmallai for dessert. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, though it may get a bit crowded during the lunch rush. But this is a place where you can get authentic Indian cuisine with no pinch on your wallet. I tried there chicken tikka masalla with garlic nan...hhummmm..it was dam good.!!!. I usually go here for lunch and occasionally get a dinner to go. They are generous with rice portions but skimp on meat. I have to ask for more every time I eat there. The food is good but the portions size leaves me rankled. It's an OK lunch destination to mix up the food options. read more

THE BEST Indian food in Milwaukee. I'm not a lover of curry but you'll find plenty of options here even if you're not. The food is super flavorful and robust. Service is great as well. I recommend the bayview location for a more romantic feel but walkers point provides more of a casual feel. read more

I ordered the butter chicken and rice. The order ended up taking over an hour to get to me.. This was last Friday around 7:00pm. I assumed I would be past the huge dinner rush. I ordered through postmates and it was estimated to take 35-50 minutes. I'm only like 6 blocks away from Cafe India too, so I thought this would be quick. I was wrong, the order sat in "preparing" for 60+ minutes. When I tried to call the restaurant to get the status of the order, I didn't get an answer. I didn't want to blame Cafe India as it could have been a postmates error, but they accepted my order and took over an hour to prepare. My postmate delivery driver did not even pick up the order until around 8:15pm. The butter chicken was decent, but I have had better. I probably wouldn't order it again.. The naan is very good though. I would be open to trying C.I. again but I would not order, I would have to go and sit or pick up the order myself. read more

Cafe India has two of my favorite takes on two food items in the city: samosas and stuffed naan (onions AND potatoes). They're also home to the most bang for your buck with their lunch special. For 7 and 1/2 bucks you get a heaping container full of whatever you want, plus rice, bread, and a drink. All of their food is delicious. My only issue is that the menu appears limited, or at least limited to someone raised on a purely western palette. But everything I've eaten has been of quality, and I look forward to every time I choose to enjoy a meal a cafe india. It's also worth noting two things: 1.The seating is limited and uncomfortable. Cafe India is a place you go to to buy food to take home. 2. The service is GREAT. They're always very nice and want to make sure you leave smiling, which always happens when I go in =) read more

Nice easy location with ample parking. Food is decent - we were not warned that spicy would be super-duper 'Indian' spicy. We ordered spicy based on 'American' spicy standards. There were a couple of other customers who also complained of the same, so we know it wasn't just us...maybe the chef was extra generous on that day. Portions are generous. I read about this place in the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel. The longer I live, the more I enjoy sampling new cuisine from around the world. Now, I am well aware that unfortunately, often times some of these restaurants cook to their Clientele. (ie "The Locals") The one thing that I have learned over the years is that do not knock a restaurant just because it is in a strip mall. Oh that's not to say that I haven't had mediocre or bad meals at strip mall restaurants, because I have! To be totally honest with this review, this is only the second time that I have had Indian Food. The other was at an established Indian Restaurant here in Milwaukee. It was under new ownership and it was the tail-end of a buffet. It wasn't too bad, but I was hoping for more. So I went in with a limited knowledge of the food. I was informed that it was a Northern Indian cuisine but again, I'm still learning. I had the Chicken Curry with rice and a salad. I also ordered one order of Roti. (Wish I would have ordered two or three for it was tasty especially dipping it with the curry sauce.) Going back to cooking to "The Locals", the blurb in the paper stated that if you wanted to have it spicier to ask for it. The meal turned out well. I will go back. I will try something different. I will go back after that and have the Curry Chicken again. The only reason that I gave the place 4 stars was because of my limited knowledge of Indian cuisine. Honestly, if your adventurous give the place a shot. The place was reasonably priced. The woman that had taken my order stated that until the article most of the customers were those in the strip mall and nearby locals. I say, give this place a fair shake. Ever since moving away from college I was in search of a new Indian restaurant. (I went to Iowa State, and in Ames Iowa, & I highly recommend India Palace.) I wasn't sure what to try and had high expectations because my last favorite Indian restaurant was my favorite restaurant ever. Cafe India is an amazing substitute. Every time I order to take out the food is hot and fresh and when I dined in the service was awesome. Everyone was so kind and attentive. We ordered butter chicken, Tikka Masala, regular and garlic naan with a side of rice. Highly recommend all of those dishes. They were all so savory and the chicken was so tender, not dry at all. I honestly crave it every day. However, the only thing I wish was that I could pick my spice rating for each dishes. A fair warning, Tikka Masala is spicier than butter chicken. This place is better than the crap they serve at some of the Indian restaurants on N. Farwell. In fact, this is not bad, it's okay and it would get 3 stars if it wasn't so outrageously over priced. I ordered Chicken Korma which came with rice (was actually given Vegetable korma instead), 2 samosa's, an order of naan, and dessert. Someone please tell me how this works out to be $35.00??! What they charge is not represented on their menu. Even the two menu's in the 'restaurant' have two different prices for the same thing! It's a hole in the wall joint IN A GAS STATION charging restaurant prices. If the prices were lower I would consider going back if I had a craving and was driving by - but for their crazy prices, no freakin way. Drive the extra 10 minutes and go to Bombway sweets. As others have said, the location is not amazing. It is in a gas station parking lot, it is definitely like a sad fast food place inside. The food, however, is amazing. I have to admit that I am not an expert on Indian cuisine, and I only get the butter chicken and naan - I know, I know. But the butter chicken is SO GOOD and the naan is SO GOOD and I won't try it at any other Indian place in Milwaukee for fear it won't be as good. I've gotten carry out and delivery from Cafe India many times. I've tried most items from the vegetarian section, and several vegetarian apps. A couple of dishes haven't been my favorite, but none have disappointed. I love trying new things. The biggest stand out items for me are the samosa chat appetizer and the kheer. I ordered buttered chicken and chicken tikki masala for my husband and I and it was the worst Indian food we've had. We've eaten our way through most of the other Indian restaurants in Milwaukee and they are all amazing, way better than this but we decided to try something new. The sauces were both really runny and spices were severely lacking. The dishes just tasted like cream. The naan was great but I will never be ordering from Indian Cafe again. Luckily there are many other great Indian restaurants in town that I'll return to. read more
