Tandoor Restaurant is a little hole in the wall on 108th serving up some delicious Indian food in a casual, no nonsense environment. First thing to know, there is parking in the back. Tandoor is located in a stripmall that is close to the sidewalk on 108th. If you go just past the end of the strip mall, you'll find a driveway that will take you to the back of the complex where there's parking. It's a small lot but we've never had a hard time finding a spot. The dining room is basic and there's very little atmosphere. It's definitely not the sort of spot you have to dine in to really experiences. In all likelihood, I'll take future orders to go. That said, the dining room is clean and comfortable and the service was pleasant. We ordered the gobi manchurian to start. It was delicious with slightly less heat that I'm accustomed to but none-the-less, a delight. For my main, I got the malai kofta which was pitch perfect. We also got an order of their peshwari naan--also just the right amount of sweetness from the raisins and buttery bread. For dessert, we got the gajar ka halwa, which is an Indian carrot pudding (if you're not familiar). It is absolute comfort food in a dish. My gosh--not too sweet, warm, and lovely. Highly recommend! Stopped here for carry out on a Saturday night. Heard good things. The garlic cheese Naan is in my dreams. We thought it was so good. It wasn't really cheesy but soft and garlicky. The Butter Chicken and Tikka Masala came in one pound containers so you get a good amount of food. They were really similar but flavorful and very enjoyable. We also got the paneer and mushrooms & lamb vindaloo. It was our first go at Indian food and I will definitely be trying more. It made us curious what other dishes might be like and I would love to try more. Overall we were very happy with our food! It was quiet and great for a business meal...The sampler of Korma, curry and masala was served in a cute silver plate reminiscent of a school lunch tray yet Oh so delicious. Delicious, affordable and very friendly staff! Tried Tandoor Restaurant for the first time today and it was totally worth every penny. The ordering was easy and the lady threw in complimentary raita too. The non veg dinner for 2 was very good and I highly recommend it to any trying out Tandoor for the first time. Brought a friend here for lunch on a Sunday and it was amazing! Ordered a lot of the same things as my last visit but happy we did. Tandoor has always been my #1 spot for Indian cuisine--I have lost count the number of times I have been there. The takeout and the dining experience are equally exceptional. The service is always prompt, and the dining room is never too crowded. There may even be times where your party is the only group dining. That said, it's absolutely not because the food isn't phenomenal. It is a very low key establishment that does most of their business as takeout orders. My big recommendation if you are going to dine at Tandoor is to make sure that you bring your appetite, or a friend to share a curry entree with. They will give you a lot of food. If you can't finish the food, however, curry makes for one of the best leftover meals. I always will eat half of my food and save the rest for the next day. The options are limitless. They have a huge menu, so there's no shortage of things to try. I love that Tandoor includes a half order of rice with their curry dishes. If you are ordering two curry dishes, however, you will want to order an extra rice. They will not include another half order unless you get 3 curries. You may want to get two orders of naan for yourself too--I run through naan pretty quickly! The spice level is optional at Tandoor, and I believe they offer mild, medium, spicy, and desi (which they don't mention as an option). If you get spicy or desi, you will absolutely want extra rice and naan or you may have a bad time. If you are looking for recommendations on extras, the paneer chili is always amazing and very flavorful! It is one of my all time favorite appetizer dishes. The mango lassi is another extra that I feel is necessary to try for the experience. If you like your curry spicy and do opt for the higher spice levels, the mango lassi is the perfect drink to chase and cool everything down. Tandoor will always be one of my favorite restaurants. They have the service down, they have the food down, and most importantly, they have the consistency down. At least from what I've experienced in the 5 years eating there. The restaurant has a very high rating so might be tricky when I rate it 3. The food itself is ok. The issue is of ambience and hygiene. The interior had some sorts of smell and not in order. The malai kofta was overly sweet. Butter paneer was ok but had color. Gobhi Manchurian was crispy but too much sauce. Food didn't felt good in taste, flavor or aroma. Best part was naans. Have ordered carry out from here at least 4-5 times, and each time I am not disappointed! I have tried their aloo tikki + chana masala special, butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, naan, and samosas. I love how they pack everything. Nothing has ever leaked, which is no small feat! They also pay special attention to packing instructions. I once requested that my one order be packed as for separate people. They also label everything, which means no guess work. The chicken in their curry is high quality. Sizable pieces, tender, juicy. I think they also have a really great meat to curry ratio! Highly recommend the samosas! I usually pop them back into the oven to heat them up, but have definitely been found guilty eating them cold because they are that delicious. I like that they are not super greasy. Pro tip--the curry from here freezes really well. I usually order a few dishes at a time so I can have a variety. The food was ok. They have a huge selection of dishes including fish which I don't usually see at many Indian restaurants. We ordered 5 entrees to go and it was ready and well packaged when I went to pick it up. The flavor was just not there like other places. We got staples like butter chicken and tiki masala but also some other ones and it just felt like the flavor was bland for everything, like they used half the amount of spices. There are a lot of options for Indian food in Milwaukee. Better Indian food. Buffet selection is somewhat lacking. I was surprised to see no curries. Rice was old and hard. Other than the old rice, each item on the buffet line tasted fine, but not wow, and again, no curry in an Indian buffet. Except for the goat dish - was that a curry? The servers were quite nice and prompt with filling up the water cups and taking away dirty dishes. Overall, I'll skip the place and go somewhere else. read more

If you are in the Milwaukee area this is a really delicious restaurant to visit. We ordered a paratha, naan, reshmi kabab, daal makhni, and mango lassi. All the food tasted like I ate it at someone grandmas house. It was fresh and tasted so homemade. The spice level was just perfect, it was balanced and had a bit of a kick without being harsh. There isn't much to say that hasn't already been said about this awesome little jewel of a restaurant. The outward appearance and tiny parking lot in back should not be a negative mark on their record, nor should the dowdy-but-practical interior decor. What you should judge is the food, but more importantly (to me) the heavenly smells. As soon as I step out of the car I am immersed in the rich scents of spices and fresh food cooking in the kitchen. I seriously want to bottle up the air escaping the kitchen vents! Once inside its a different experience all together. It's clean, no heavy aroma and generally not too crowded - I find this to be a tragedy. The food is amazing. Well spiced, cooked to perfection, always too much to eat in one sitting. Now, I have a not so secret love affair with Indian cuisine. I've been to at least half the Indian restaurants in town on a semi-regular basis. Can I pick a favorite? No. But I do prefer this one. Their naan is excellent. All of it. I could not make it better myself(I've tried). The tamarind sauce is a secret I NEED to steal. When it comes to lentil dishes I haven't had better. The chefs are truly skilled and my stomach and taste buds appreciate it. Is their room for improvement? Of course, but I haven't found it yet. As a creature of habit I tend to order the same foods. I used to love this place, though after yesterday, never again. We ordered two lamb saag's and one tofu saag. Three people ate the lamb saag and got sick and the one who ate the tofu saag was okay. Someone has mentioned in the comments that this place is a hidden gem around, I totally agree with that. I had always gone for their buffet which is not the best but I personally love it. Just past weekend i first time tried the dinner on the menu and I became fan of this place. Chicken kababs, naans, chilli paneer was some of the best. We also ordered stuffed naans, not too good, plain naans much better. And the price is very reasonable. The ambience and from outside, it's not very fancy, but the food is delicious. read more

Tandoor means oven or in slang to get roasted. And boy did we get scre#@d... Small portions. Hefty price tag. Especially if you order online/delivery. A group of us (about 4) recently had a gettogether and ordered 5 dishes (cost 100+$. Sadly it wasnt enough for half of us. Being a heterogenous group of folks from Atlanta, Boston and Bethesda, we commented how much more we had paid for far less compared to other Indian restaurants in these cities. In fact, one even pointed out that the portions seemed to be about half of that at most other places at the same price point. Perhaps its COVID or just Tandoor? So portions aside, the taste....ummmm...the chef(s) seemed to have just put it in the same base sauce in three dishes that were supposed to be quite different per their website descriptions. Now a couple among us happened to be Indians and so were very familiar with these dishes and they commented how these all either tasted alike (even though they shouldnt have) and worse didnt taste anything like their original Indian versions... I guess its okay for folks who are not familiar with Indian cuisine... Lastly, we had requested cutlery and paraphernalia to make life easier- NADA. Not even a napkin. Great customer service guys. This inspite of me having called in and making sure they knew to throw those in. Sadly Tandoor doesnt live up to its reputation for either affordable prices (well affordable if you ignore the smaller portions) or its taste leaving us quite disappointed with our first Indian food evening. And well lets just forget about their non-existent customer service. Perhaps we should have just stuck to Chinese food- fraction of the cost and larger portions. Plus fortune cookies as thanks for an order. Thanks Tandoor- Ironically one of the Indians quipped - Tandoor in slang means to get roasted so perhaps apt name in a way.... Went to the lunch buffet. Not the best, not the worst. Definitely have had better Indian food, but slim pickings here in Milwaukee. The food is authentic and home made. The buffet selection was decent, good split between meat and vegetarian. The ambiance is pretty bland, but most people don't go to an Indian restaurant for that haha. I would give it a try if you're in the area and craving Indian food (which is exactly how I stumbled upon it). read more

I've been ordering Tandoor many times since the Covid. I order and it gets delivered to my porch. The delivery driver I've had is polite and on time. I'm sure Tandoor has many great food options. But, I'm hooked on chicken korma. It's a dish with super tender pieces of chicken. The sauce is amazing and it always comes fresh and hot enough to eat right away. It is served with a basmati rice. I personally have never been in the actual restaurant, but once the Covid is calmed down, I look forward to going there. read more

I found this restaurant on ubereats as the highest rated Indian restaurant. I briefly considered if someone could have hijacked my order. It's beyond my imagination how anyone could rate more than 1 or 2 stars. Every Indian restaurant in the area I tried has much better food and has lower ratings. Pakoras = burnt black and dry. Tasted like double fried leftovers from the day before Samosas = instead of pieces of potatoes and spieces I am used to, it was filled with an underseasoned brown mush. Aloo Tikki = Seemed to be the same underseasoned mush. No traces of cauliflower visible or detectable through the taste sense. Raita = watery, hardly any peppermint or cucumber. Salty water with some yoghurt Onion pickle = that was actually the only tasty item from the order Rice = uninteresting. Not up to par. Indian rice is normally a highlight, this was just ok Tamarind sauce = watery, didn't taste right Green chutney = it was neither coriander nor peppermint. I have no idea what this bitter, unpleasant stuff even was. Disgusting Fried paneer = at least not burnt. Hardly any seasoning, otherwise ok. The worst thing was the "mushroom" curry. I do not like peas in curries. That is why I ordered this "mushroom curry". No word in the description "royal dish" of peas. I received a pea-mushroom dish and both were canned. CANNED MUSHROOMS. As you can imagine, canned peas overpower the taste of canned mushrooms by far. The sauce was uninteresting and not overly authentic tasting. I should have purchased a $3 "ready to eat" that would have tasted better. I really don't get anyone rated this more than 2 stars, especially as good Indian restaurants in the area have way worse ratings. Maybe the cook has changed. Should this ever be the only open restaurant, I'll search the cracks of my couches before I go there. read more

We ordered chicken tikka masala, garlic chicken and shrimp, and naan. The tikka masala was some of the best I've ever had. The perfect amount of heat and a just a tiny bit sweet.
