Where to begin...Cafe Intermezzo was truly an otherworldly experience. The food is delish, and the ambiance is to die for. We went here for my friend's birthday, and it was such a chill and calm vibe. I love the European coffeehouse aesthetic of it all. My only qualm is that our waiter was lowkey giving "I don't want to be here". I don't even know his name because that's how much he didn't talk. He wasn't mean, but he was just "blah". Took myself out here on a little solo date on my last day vacationing in ATL. I could not have had a better experience, service and food and drink were top notch, the ambiance on the patio was impeccable. The staff and other patrons were so friendly, never once was I made to feel odd for dining alone. My favorite part of this place is that they were playing an Italian lesson over the speakers in the bathroom! My only caveat is that we originally tried to come here for breakfast on Memorial Day (I returned solo the next morning) and they were super busy, we were told a 35 mins wait but got a text within 20 mins, by which point we had already left the area. Not sure if that's just because it was a holiday. I felt the portion size for the hot coffee was a bit small and had to order two, but that might just be my American showing. Portion size for the dessert was HUGE! For my vegans, what I did was I ordered my hot coffees with oat milk and requested no Schalg (whipped cream) and asked my server about the Vegan dessert options they had and for no Schalg on that either! read more

Cafe Intermezzo is an Atlanta classic that I return to almost every time I'm in Atlanta. It's the only place in the US I've been that feels like a true European cafe. You aren't rushed through your time there at all. Across the board the food is amazing. The brunch food is delicious, they have great snacking options if you want to share something with a friend, and anything from the dessert case will blow your mind. On another note, their coffee drinks are high quality and such a treat. Most recently I went with my mom and sister, we ordered dessert and coffees and played cards for a while, it was so much fun. Just know if you come in the evening there is usually a bit of a wait. read more

This is only a cheesecake/cake review! We did have to wait a while since this place is so popular, but the ambiance is nice. We tried 4 different slices and they were all very good, below is the breakdown per slice: 5/5 - Oreo Cheesecake: Definitely their best cheesecake from the ones we tried! It's also their most popular! Rich texture, plus a nice sugary. 4.5/5 - White Chocolate Raspberry: Definitely on the sweeter side, but oh so good! This is a nice classy place, but you don't have to dress up to be seated. Me and my freind came here for a dinner date, we both ordered and revived our food pretty quick. We were sat in the back and got a good view of everything. My drink was good but somehow too strong yet at the same time had a strange after traste. I went here today with my parents. They ordered the Bruschetta to start- absolutely delicious 10/10, perhaps the best I've ever had. I had a Vanilla chai, I asked for it iced and it came hot with a cup of ice, not what I was expecting but it was still good 6/10. I ordered the Chicken Florentine and that was so so good 9/10! For desert I had Key Lime Cheesecake for dessert, it could have been colder and creamier with a stronger lime taste but was still good, and I liked that it was light and airy 7/10. I thought everything was fairly priced and the restaurant has a great vintagey atmosphere. The service was excellent with a polite attentive waiter. I will certainly be back! read more

Really love the vibe of Cafe Intermezzo. It's a really unique place to grab a bite. So much to try and enjoy here. Plus, their staff was pretty nice and accommodating. You can get elaborate coffee drinks, pasta, sandwiches, cake, and even a cup of hot cocoa (shockingly large selection) if you want. Whatever you do, make sure to save room for some cheesecake. Usually great, but our waiter was very judgemental. I've been to this location multiple times, with a great experience each time. However, I'm usually accompanied by family. In this experience, my boyfriend and I entered the cafe, dressed casually due to prior activities, and our waiter gave us a very judgemental look before seating us. We needed extra time to look at the menu, which he took to the extreme. He didn't return to us for another 25-30 minutes. After taking our order, he remained very inattentive, even forgetting our silverware and refills regarding water. The server didn't say hi, had no personality and didn't even say anything after dropping the dessert off. No check back or asking if everything was ok. Even when he dropped the check he was silent. TLDR: 10/10 ambiance, food, and service! This cafe reminds me of being it Italy or Paris, especially from the outside patio. Best cheesecake I've ever had in ATL (just try the vanilla or Oreo and thank me later). High prices for food and desserts but you get what you pay me. The inside of this cafe is gorgeous! My parents and I traveled to Atlanta this weekend for work & stumbled upon Cafe Intermezzo in Midtown. Due to my traveling delays we ended up here at 9pm for dinner on a Friday night and were worried about finding somewhere with no wait and good food.. luckily Cafe Intermezzo checked every box. We were sat as soon as we walked in and greeted with a dark/moody interior that reminded me of an authentic French cafe in the evening. We started with espresso martinis and then grabbed spinach dip for an appetizer. I then went simple for my main course with the tomato basil pasta. Considering we got fairly simple menu items I was pleasantly surprised with the punch of flavors and how delicious everything was. ** Staff was rude/dismissive and refused to seat my group of five ** Tonight my group of five went to Dua Vietnamese for dinner to celebrate a birthday. After dinner we asked the birthday girl where she wanted to finish the evening with dessert, cocktails and coffee and she chose Cafe Intermezzo. We were all excited because we all dine here sporadically and enjoy the savory food as well as the delicious desserts and coffee. I work on 14th street for a financial services business and regularly eat here and also take clients here. I have never had issues dining here until tonight. Two people in our group of five had small 4 inch carry out containers with leftover food from our dinner at Dua Vietnamese. The hostess stated they have a policy of not seating customers that have food from other restaurants. I patiently and politely explained that since they serve desserts and coffee that reasonable people would expect that patrons might choose to have dinner elsewhere and then celebrate with desserts, cocktails and coffee at Intermezzo. She spoke to our group of 50/60 something's like we were children and refused to seat us. We are a group of mature professionals that work in the surrounding area. We were disappointed and upset. I 100% respect business policies however I have a choice where I will be spending my personal money and my business expense account for entertaining clients and friends and I won't be patronizing this restaurant anymore. read more

I ate here with someone for lunch on Tuesday. The restaurant was quite busy but we were still able to get a table on their outdoor patio. It was a cloudy day that turned sunny, but it is covered so I wouldn't have been too worried if it started raining. I ordered just a spicy cheese tortellini and added grilled cheese because I wanted to eat more protein. When I tasted the pasta dish it was slightly more spicy than I anticipated but still a delicious meal. Our server was very nice and communicative and continued to refill our water cups. This place is always a vibe! I love how intimate the atmosphere is and how pleasant the service is. Every time I come here I try something different. This time I just got their famous espresso martini and white chocolate raspberry cheesecake and those were AMAZING. In the past I've had some of their entree items and those were delicious as well. He imagined that this "third place", outside of home and work, had potential for a home in America. So Café Intermezzo was born. We provide a space where people can enjoy life at a more measured pace and take an "intermezzo" (intermission) from the hectic demands of life. History

Established in 1979.

Café Intermezzo began as an idea in 1971, when Brian Olson traveled to his heritage homeland of Germany. Visiting a konditorei in Berlin (bakery-Café), and then many more throughout Germany and Austria, brought conviction that the EuropÃ¤ische Kaffeehaus (European coffeehouse), as a significant Place in the lives of its guests, had a potential for a home in America. As a respite in a person's day, a place to stop, to relax, to think...as an "intermission " between all of the activities and responsibilities, Olson believed that the Kaffeehaus would provide a distinct and wonderful refuge in the ever-expanding world of fast-food and environments designed to expedite takeout beverages and foods. The European coffeehouse represents the antithesis of food and drink in a hurry. Here the music, the aromas, the art, the sheer nature of the Café all represent the essence of the coffeehouse experience. Rendezvous with a friend, hold a meeting, or simply ponder the moment, the day, or life.

I get that it's near a college campus so EVERYTHING is made unnecessarily political these days unfortunately, but maybe they should coach their folks to not engage unsuspecting customers in these conversations... literally just prioritize the JOB and the BUSINESS and the customer experience. I don't need or want a lecture on how unbearable you think our country is when I'm just trying to get a drink. It's a horrible business practice to assume ~anyone's~ social/political leaning and I hope we as a society can collectively move into a space where we stop normalizing this behavior. I don't know what happened when they transitioned to Midtown but this is not the Cafe Intermezzo I remember. The Buckhead location had been a go to spot since I was 19 for intimate gatherings with friends I had not seen in a while. Service may have been a little slow but we never cared because we would always catch up on life and that would take a while. I was so excited to learn about their move to Midtown since I could walk to it and eagerly anticipated it becoming a regular spot for me. After several attempts at this new location I see I'll have to find a new "bring friends when they are in town" spot. This place is a packed house from random customers standing around to rubbing elbows with the table next to you. I mean seriously, they could not squeeze another table in there if they wanted to. A few more issues: -Ordered coffee during all visits and had to either send it back because it wasn't hot or send the cups back because they were dirty. Because of the slow service we waited a good 15 to 20 minutes from the time we ordered to the time I got to drink. -Since this new location is so packed, our drinks end up on the floor once there is no more room on the tiny table for our apps. Eww. -At our last visit my ham and cheese omelet was missing cheese and my guests cheesecake was much sweeter than it used to be. Too sweet. On a good note they do validate parking if you drive. You have to park in the parking deck on the side of the building. read more

Cafe Intermezzo is the place to eat if you enjoy amazing food. I was in Atlanta visiting family. I live in Minnesota. The ONLY agenda I had when I came to town was eating here. It had been years since I ate at Cafe Intermezzo. The memory I had didn't even live up to how amazing it actually is. I had a reservation for 7:30 pm on a Saturday and we arrived early and were able to be seated right away. The staff and servers were awesome. Friendly, helpful and came around JUST enough. The atmosphere is superb. Relaxing, cozy and rich in texture and ambiance. The food... OMG...the FOOD! The FOOD is AHHHHHMAZING. So incredible. We had the Italian Bruschetta as an appetizer and it was seriously the best I have ever had. I personally had the Spicy Tortellini with the Grilled Chicken and it was a flavor explosion. Spicy but not so much you couldn't taste the food. My cousin had the Seared Chicken and based on her appreciative sounds as she ate, I am quite certain she LOVED it. We each got a slice of cake that was also delicious. It was hard to choose. You will spend money to eat here but it is worth EVERY. SINGLE. PENNY. I am so happy that we made an effort to include Cafe Intermezzo on our short visit. It did not disappoint. HIGHLY recommend eating here. read more

Never been to this place and wanted to try it out. It started off well, but it quickly changed! When are server dropped off our food that was the last time we saw anyone! No one came to check on us our drinks were never refilled, and that sucked because we ordered a meal that was heavily spiced! After we finished our meal we sat for 20 minute(still no drinks) and another server came and bussed our table but didn't ask if we needed anything. After another half hour we still haven't seen our original server, so I walked to the host stand and asked to see a manager. Finally our server came back( an hour after she dropped off our food) and just stood there without saying a thing! I asked for our check, 20 minutes later a different server brought it out so I again asked for a manager, after another 20 minutes the manager arrived and said "you wanted to see me" he never offered to fix anything or make things right, not once did he say he was sorry for anything just sat there and stared at me and had the nerve to ask me if there was anything else! I felt bad because there were 4 other tables that were being ignored just as bad as my table. Worst service ever, incompetent managers, I will never come here again! read more

I called in to order a lovely cake for my birthday I left my telephone number my name and told them the time that I would be arriving. I am approximately 50 minutes away from this lovely Cafe that is downtown Atlanta upon arriving I am told that my cake was sold to someone else. I was offered other cakes but the reason for pre-ordering is a cake because it is something specific that you want. I was advise that a general manager would get back with me, they never did. I tried calling throughout the week I waited two days then I waited another three days and now it is going on 3 weeks and I have still yet to hear back from the general manager about this incident. My birthday as you can imagine was ruined I did not feel like celebrating after that time because I had nothing to celebrate it with. I am appalled that this situation was not addressed and that no one had even tried to reach out to me since then. read more

I had the pleasure of dining at Café Intermezzo, and I have to say--every bite and sip was an experience. I ordered the Spicy Tri-Color Tortellini with Chicken Sausage, and it was absolute comfort in a bowl. The tortellini was perfectly cooked with a delightful kick of spice, creamy cheese sauce, and the chicken sausage was flavorful, juicy, and grilled just right. The vibrant mix of colors from the tortellini added to the visual appeal and made the dish even more appetizing. To complement the meal, I sipped on their Café Alpine--a dreamy iced coffee topped with whipped cream and white chocolate curls. It was the perfect balance of bold coffee and sweet indulgence. Outdoor seating, is nice. The food (two entrees between us) is OK, but nothing to write home about. The service, however, was about as bad it can get.our waitress showed up12 minute after we were seatedIII Ordered a glass of wine when the food was brought to the table. After close to 10 minutes with no sign of the waitress (food was close to half eaten), I had to go inside to remind them about the wine and my friend had a request for soy sauce. Another 5 minutes or so went by and I had to go in again to ask for the wine and soy sauce (which they didn't have). We were there relatively early in the (late) afternoon, and the restaurant was not busy. You hate to think what it would have been like if there were many people. Clearly a server issue, but it also reflects on the management who, one would like to think, trains the help. I will not return. read more

I'm actually surprised to read so many negative reviews on this place. I really like Café Intermezzo. Granted, I did not like the Dunwoody location. I haven't had a bad experience here. I've always had good service. My husband and I go there quite often and we love their food and cake. I absolutely love their white chocolate coffee (I forgot what the actual name is). I haven't been there in a little while since their remodeling but the last time we went there I had a spicy pasta and my husband had lobster ravioli and we both enjoyed it. The setting is very romantic so it is always perfect for our date night. My friend celebrated his birthday there two different years and we have always had a good time. Between myself and friends, we haven't been disappointed with this place. read more

I read some of these reviews and had to throw in my 2 cents... Cent number one: For fancy desserts and coffee, it's the best place in Atlanta. The ladies love it. Dating goldmine. My other cent is this: Most of the negative reviews for Intermezzo are about poor service, and I completely agree. The service is very poor in American standards. This is designed to be a European style café though right? Have you ever been to Europe? I lived there for over a year. The service is very poor. I'm not saying that they intentionally have poor service, though. What I am saying is this: Intermezzo is for people that are not in a hurry. Who cares if the waiter takes 15 minutes to get back with you. Adopt the European, event oriented mindset when you take a step inside, and you'll love it. read more

As I hear it and also have been a witness to, your Management staff is unfair to their employees (servers and hostees....etc). If your empolyees are not happy your customers are not going to be happy. Does the owner of this establishment know about this problem or is management covering it up? Its a sad day when the employees quit or walk out on the job, because of unfair treatment. Management staff is mean and very nasty to their employees. I understand that this is a business, but your employees help the business to run. No employees no business. The rating is 00000. This is ashame I thought this was a really nice place at first, now I see it as a prison for the regular employee staff. Cafe Intermezzo is not a good place to be. read more

Had a great experience at this location. My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to have dessert on New Year's Eve/day and decided to come here. When we arrived we were told that they were closed and that they were not going to be able to seat us. A waitress by the name of Omisha, not sure if the spelling is correct, walked by and told the hostess that she could seat us and that she would take care of us. The night just kept getting better! She was so friendly and pleasant and had a wonderful spirit about her. She certainly made our night and I look forward to visiting this location in the future. I had a lovely date at Café Intermezzo in Atlanta, and it was an unforgettable experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, perfect for a romantic evening. The highlight of the meal was the tortellini pasta--it was absolutely delicious! The pasta was perfectly cooked, and the flavors were rich and satisfying. Cafe Intermezzo in Midtown Atlanta is an absolute gem! My parents and I stumbled upon this cozy French-inspired cafÃ© and were welcomed warmly even though we arrived at 9pm on a Friday night. I came here again recently to celebrate with friends. The whole experience was lovely. They really have the corner on this type of experience... Elegant, romantic, and great offerings. We had hot chocolates for our group, and they were piping hot and delicious. So decadent! We shared some appetizers, the naan and lox is a hit! Also enjoyed a terrific charcuterie platter, yum! I'm unable to leave this cafe without eating a pastry! The seasonal peppermint cheesecake was really good. Our server was great too... I absolutely love this place! That's really all there is to it. I come here primarily for their desserts, and they always have excellent vegan options. Today, I tried the vegan strawberry cake (as shown in the pictures) along with a chamomile tea, and it was fantastic. The last time I visited, I had the chocolate peanut butter cake, which was also excellent! If you're vegan, definitely check it out! And if you aren't, you should still go! Lol. Came in one night to get a couple drinks and Margarita, who was working at the bar, was outstanding. With a good little crowd in front of her waiting on drinks, she was so kind and pleasant the whole time and making sure everyone was properly served. This was a date night for me.... We were sat outside in an enclosed patio with NO HEAT in January. I was told by the hostess they would turn the heat lamp on once we were seated but that never happened. I then asked the server to turn on the lamp which we later found had no propane in it. Wow! What a gem! Flew in late from San Diego and thank god my Uber driver recommend this place. The food was delicious but the vibe was everything.. with French music, dim lighting and a diverse crowd it was a great place to enjoy dinner and a couple glasses of wine. I love that they have fridges setup that have wine, beer, different sodas and juices, picnic needs and even some of their chicken salad and pastas to go. So many options! To order, guests must line up and order at the register and then your food is brought to your table. When I first entered, there were a number of parties sitting down but there was still space. As noon rolled around, it got thick in there! I could tell that the lunch rush was on and wow, did Necessary Purveyor get hit. But the team handled everyone so smoothly, the guests were patient and were rewarded by a swift ordering process. For lunch, Sierra went in knowing that she wanted their chicken salad as she said it was her favorite. I opted for the Mexican wrap and that bad boy was huge!
