Stopped into this great bar back in October. Celebrating Oktoberfest in Helen, Ga. This place was so awesome we just stayed there for like 3 hours. Great beers! I think someone in our crew had food. Service was amazing.....it was packed! Great live music! We don't go to Helen that often when we are in the mountains. We went alot when my kids were little, but we will definitely check this awesome bar out again when we are back in Helen. read more

This was my boyfriend and I's last stop in our Helen trip. We wanted something quick and easy for breakfast/ lunch before we hit the road. We were the first customers there for lunch so we were seated as soon as we walked up. We sat in the back corner, which was a little cramped but it had a nice view of the bridge and the water passing beneath. We gravitated to the sandwich portion of the menu and carefully looked over all the options. I settled on the Reuben with chips since the menu stated it was the most popular menu item and my boyfriend ordered the Camel Rider with french fries. The food came out relatively quickly which was good because we were both hungry. At first glance the Rueben didn't appear appetizing, simply because I've never seen beef sliced into that consistency. But don't let that fool you, that was a great tasting Rueben. The sauerkraut, cheese, and beef ratio was perfect, with all the flavors mending together how they are supposed to. I do wish I ordered the fries instead of the chips because my boyfriend's fries tasted amazing and would have probably paired with the sandwich better. I think we made a great decision eating here and I can definitely see why the Rueben is the town favorite. read more

Last night we ordered reuben sandwiches but we got reuben meat pieces on our sandwiches that seems were not fresh while we were there on Halloween night. It did not looked like the menu and was not the same reuben slices sandwiches we had in the past that were always fresh. My wife came home with a upset stomach and we were not impressed with your sandwiches as we were used to have in the past. I am not sure if I can recommend your restaurant anymore in the future to my friends. I am sadden about this. read more

This was a great location no doubt, best view of the River for a few beers or simple meal. I will say the breakfast was very average/below average, but hey it was cheap, no wait, and best view. The eggs were cooked perfect, the hash browns were crispy, and the sausage was cooked through without being very dry. The toast was a little burnt and not fluffy, but it was buttery. There were two breakfast options, the basic $9 breakfast, and the step up for $13 that had all the same things plus 3 pancakes. I don't think anything was truly homemade like some of their German dishes are. If someone put a little more effort into the breakfast items and menu this place could be really special for the view. Service was extremely inattentive. Server walked past our table 3x and never looked at us to see how we were doing? Why you ask ? Because they brought me cold gravy for the Wiener schnitzel and did not want to deal with me! On top of that, the expensive Wiener schnitzel does not come with gravy????? First time in my life ordering schnitzel that does not come with gravy! I ask for some side gravy and it's a $2 up charge? Again WTF? Oh it's COLD and the servers couldn't care less. Worse place ever. Should really consider a change in the name of the establishment as they are clearly not open to people of other ethnicities. I don't like calling the race card but I can't think of another reason my husband and I were constantly overlooked until we stopped one of the waitresses and only she helped us. Piss poor. read more

Overall 3/5: Probably one of the better options for food in the area. Drinks 4/5: We got classic margaritas and they were great prices for how strong they were. Yum! Food 3/5: Kind of an average meal. The fries were good and I got the alpine bbq sandwich. Not the best bbq sandwich, but still good flavor. They offer side upgrades for $2, which i did and got mac n cheese instead of the chips. It came in like a two ounce tin made for sauces. Smallest portion of mac n cheese for a two dollar up charge it was laughable. Wasn't very good either. Reminded me of elementary school cafeteria food. Service 4/5: They were great and patient with us. Our server was super nice and friendly. We also didn't hear our name get called while we were waiting because we were in the restroom, but they saw us sitting there and asked if we were waiting. They said they called our name but were kind enough to still seat us. Environment 4/5: Super chill, we loved the outdoor seating. They also had live music that was nice even though we were sitting pretty close to the musician it was still enjoyable. The waiting area was really nice, and we were able to grab drinks there. One-star for cleanliness & ownership policy. This place's restrooms make the standard nasty bathroom you'd see in a convenience store look like a Ritz-Carleton. Broken toilet seats + dingy & filthy surfaces, there is zero care for their patrons. Which brings me to the second note of how their Management's customer service is very poor. They could care less if you enjoy your experience...likely a consequence of being such a tourist driven economy..they know you won't be back and treat you like it. Didn't get to try the food as we choose to not be treated poorly (and left) before we even ordered. read more

German mashed potatoes are SOOOO good. I loved the Mac and cheese!!!! The veal was so different, and a little chewy in some parts but I loved everything overall!!! Our waiter was so nice when we told her we were on a time crunch. She took our order and drink order at the same time to help us out. So considerate! read more

After a couple failed attempts to find a good spot for lunch, my friend and I finally ended up in line and eating at Cafe International. There was still quite a wait, but we were able to snag a table outside the indoor dining area. Two servers were monitoring the outdoor seating and helped us score two menus and some waters. A cart of beer was outside serving boots and pints of a few options, which you bought separately before entering the restaurant. We sipped on our beers while deciding what to order. We ordered some chips and guac to share, and I ended up getting a bratwurst (hot dog) with chips and a pickle. The food was underwhelming but we were starving, so it was still satisfying with the beer. The guac had good flavor, but the consistency of the guacamole left something to be desired. As we ate, the wait got longer and longer while our server got busier and busier. We were lucky to finally get our check and get in and out. Cafe International is a little farther out from the other shops, but might be nicer to avoid the initially longer wait and huge crowds of those closer to the downtown square. read more

I had to come to Helen for work reason. My dad came along. After getting done with work, we deicded to stop for lunch. We both never had German food before. Since this was next to the river, and had a German Flag we decided to spot by. I am giving it 3 stars because It didnt have many German Options but more American Sandwich. We order the Veal German Dish. It was ok, a little pricy for the portion. I never had German food before so really can not tell if it authentic. I would assume probably not with other negative reviews. We like the scenery, that was next to to the river. Service was ok. Power did not go when we were there, so they had to manual write a check for us. Not sure if they made mistake or purposely addded item to check we didnt order. When I got the check, they added extra items we didnt order. After telling the manager, she took it off. Next time when in Helen, will try another restaurant that have more German Options. read more

Great little spot beside the river! They have some great German-themed dishes that look and tasted great. My fiancé got the Reuben and it was hands down the best I've ever tried. They also have fantastic fries, which may seem silly but I'm always impressed when a place doesn't skimp out on the quality of fries. I got a bratwurst, knockwurst (which I've never heard of before and is now my favorite sausage), and even tries some great German potato salad I've never had before. Everything about it was great. We were seated, waited 20 minutes, and no waiter came by at all in that amount of time, so we just left.

They literally charged us $10 because we wanted to move tables out of the beaming sun! maybe we wouldn't have this problem if they would invest in umbrellas or some shade ? i would not recommend to anyone. Also the customer service is horrible. our server got so mad because we switched tables and she wouldn't come back to serve us so the manager dealt with us the rest of the time. He was very rude to us saying we don't own the restaurant so we can't just move tables. Food wasn't worth a penny. Went here because the name of the restaurant caught our attention thinking they would have items on the menu that represented cuisine from other countries. This was not the case. The only item on the lunch menu that resembled anything international was the bratwurst called "Beyond Brot" If you are just wanting a quick bite without anything impressive, then sure. The food here is just your average American cuisine. We came here for lunch and I got the burger and was disappointed they did not offer fries as a side. They offer a bag of chips instead. The burger was tasteless and not certain it's fresh, most likely prefrozen and thrown on a grill. Other members of our party got the bratwurst which was packed with too much sauerkraut and cheese that was too overpowering you couldn't even get a sense of what the Bratwurst taste like. The service was ok, the staff looked like they were just waiting for the day to be over. We didn't get anything special as far as service. They have some draft beer selections that are interesting to try. The two stars is for the seating outside, you get to watch people tube down the river. While the entree itself was good (Bratwurst), the service was pretty bad. I looked at the online menu before we arrived, and, since it was cold out, I decided I would try the Mexican Hot Cocoa. I didn't see it on the much more limited menu in the restaurant, but I tried to order it anyway. When I asked for Mexican Hot Cocoa, my waitress looked incredibly dumbfounded. Apparently, she had no clue what Mexican Hot Cocoa was, and she had no problem acting like it was ridiculous for me to even ask for it. The food took a long time to come out, even though we were one of only a few groups of people at the restaurant. We only went here because they were the only restaurant without a waitlist in Helen- now I understand why they were the only restaurant with seats available. 3 stars because the Bratwurst was good. I've been here every single time I go to Helen. The Reuben Sandwich is the best I've ever had. Right on the water, it's gorgeous albeit a bit chilly this time of year. Staff is friendly even with as slammed as they were. The pickles are excellent too. They also had live music today, which isn't a draw for me but may be for some. Had a 1.5 hour wait only to never receive our food. An hour into our visit we were asked if we "wanted a refill". I then informed the waitress we'd like to have our food to go since we had an appointment to get to. She got an attitude like it was our fault we didn't get our food. She went to the kitchen to "get our food" which took an extra 25-30 minutes to get. Awful experience and will never go back or recommend to anyone. Terrible customer service. We drove to Helen from Atlanta for a day trip. My husband wanted to sit by the river for lunch. We picked this restaurant. We sat on the deck but it was cold & Windy so the plastic was down. We ordered the Reuben to split and a basket of fries. The Reuben was good and the fries were hot . My husband and I went to this restaurant with our Newfoundland that is certified service dog. We had previously been to this restaurant with our Newfoundland and had a wonderful experience. However, this experience was terrible. We were told that we had to sit in a particular area because of him, which was not a concern for us until we were told that he was not allowed to have any water or food at the table. This is unlike any other restaurant in the area or our previous experience at this restaurant. I do not expect for my dog to drink or eat off of a dish used for humans, but there other means to offer water to them. The management was extremely rude and unprofessional. Cafe International in Helen, GA is a true treat. Located directly on the Chattahoochee River, it's the perfect place to grab a bite and enjoy the river. The menu is quite diverse offering French, Italian, American, and German favorites. We enjoyed a Wurst Platter and the 'Best in Town Ruben.' Although the wurst platter was delicious I have to say a big thank you to our server for suggesting we try the Ruben...it was truly FANTASTIC! The marinated lean corn beef was delightful and paired well with the oozing cheese and sauerkraut. The sandwich is served with cole slaw but do yourself a favor and sub the German potato salad...yumo! Our server was attentive, polite, personable, and made our experience truly enjoyable. The atmosphere is casual and calm. This was my second visit to Cafe International and I'll definitely be back. read more

This place is over hyped. The food was basic and not overly exciting. It is very over priced and thrown together. We were a party of 8+ with kids and would not bring kids under 9mos; that can't sit in a high chair. Our server was very slow and never refilled my water. It was Oktoberfest, but every other sever seemed on top of their tables. The people around us were more entertaining than the restaurant's ambience. The cool thing is you do get to sit by the river. Don't expect real authentic German food, it's very Americanized. Probably would try other place next time we visit Helen. We try to get to Helen once a year. read more

We stopped here for lunch while visiting Helen. There was 9 in our group and at 2:30 in the afternoon they were able to seat us quickly. The menu consisted of several international options. I tried the white lasagna which was good. I can't say it was special - but nothing to complain about. Others ordered french dip sandwich, burgers and a pretzel. The water and sodas had a strange taste - I have to assume that's the local water supply but unfortunately it impacted our meal. Service was fine too. Other than the taste of our drinks I just think it was overpriced for what we got. I don't think I'd recommend this restaurant if you are visiting. We went there this past Saturday for lunch. It is a very busy place. The day was sunny and beautiful. We walked there around 2 or so, I think. A guy was singing live, and he was very good! They have tables by the river (where we sat), but also away from that area. Outdoors pretty much, but they do have parts with a roof on it, and a lot of people had their dogs, too. We got some drinks before our table was ready. My husband got the local beer, in a 32 oz. mug and said it was very good. I had a buffalo wrap and fries and it was delicious. The wrap was spicy buffalo, very good, and the fries were crisp and awesome. My husband got the chicken nachos and he really enjoyed them. Plenty of food. Would return there for sure. Our Server was really good. She was attentive and efficient. I'd recommend going there for a good meal. read more
