I really wanted to like this place, but I didn't. I gotta say, the waiter we had that night was pretty cool. He was super enthusiast and seemed like he loved his job. Even though our waiter was great, the service ended up kindna slow as they got busier. Anyways to the food, I really like how this place offers tapas style so I can try more stuff. We pretty much got what the waiter recommended. The hummus was the best and only thing that was good that night. It was garlic-y, smooth and fine in texture. Most hummus elsewhere is too gritty for me. The chicken, lamb, and falafel were alright at most. The meat was too dry. Even though the lamb wasn't gamey, it lacked the true essence of lamb, and wasn't good. I ended up only eating the hummus with pita bread to get full while neglecting the rest of the food...that's always a bad sign. We had a Groupon, but the $10 for $20 deal via Yelp with a free hummus for a check-in is a much better deal. With a Groupon, it didn't allow the waiter to enter more than one code for the free hummus. I highly recommend getting the Yelp deal, and might return for a second chance because of it. read more

This restaurant is BEAUTIFUL. The string lights and wood decor made the patio feel warm and cozy and inside, there was a live musician strumming away on his guitar. The service also was great here! The manager and the server were very attentive and made sure our needs were taken of. As for the food, the hummus was very unique; it was super creamy, garlicky, and unlike any hummus I've tried before. High recommend. The chicken kebab plate with saffron rice and a side salad was also really tasty and so were the falafels. Overall, the food was good, but I think the decor and the ambiance make it a really special place for date nights or just catching up with friends! Great ambiance and decor. Very friendly staff. I ordered the saffron chicken and gf had the beef kabob plate. We shared the hummus and pomegranate shrimp. I'm not the biggest fan of pomegranate but the shrimp was good, not so much the rice as that's where most of the pomegranate flavors are. Chicken was juicy and flavorful but the beef kebabs were what I should have ordered. We filled up on the hummus and salad so had a decent size leftover for the next day. Loved this place. Was there on a Wednesday night and it was bustling. We were a party of six and ordered several different items off of the menu. All were fantastic. Izmir is successful at providing great food and great service. We were there to celebrate a birthday and we brought our own birthday cake (specifically cupcakes). They took the cupcakes and put candles in them and brought them out in a very nice presentation. They had no problems that we didn't order their dessert. We supported them during the pandemic and glad to see they made it through. Looking forward to more dinners here! read more

It is hard to find real Mediterranean food that is not, dare I say it, Americanized. Stay true to Izmir, loved it. There were a few things that stuck out to me. During covid you never know how the restaurants are really doing, but an ode to quality when we ordered. I hope that they can be consistent, will be ordering again soon. Zaziki sauce, with the cucumbers, dill, added a little bit more mint and YUM. Chabouli needed lemon, I think they put lime? Just a different profile but still delicious Falafel; flavorful, crispy, what more can you want Beef platter; so much meat SO MUCH FLAVOR Hummus; creamy...I could drink it if that was normal Bread; yes I NEED to mention the pita bread because when a restaurant takes the time to char their bread and serves it fresh IT MATTERS! The Russian chicken salad was delicious and fresh; the beef kebab was incredibly tender and flavorful, and the sweet potato fries were amazing. Cozy, beautiful restaurant with fun staff and a cheery atmosphere! Cafe Izmir is an amazing restaurant experience at a reasonable price. The first things I noticed were the beautiful lighting and great decor. There was also a very talented live musician who sang a wide variety of songs in English and Spanish with his own unique spin to the tunes. Cafe Izmir is famous for its award-winning hummus, and it certainly lived up to my expectations. It was tasty and one-of-a-kind! We got the falafel and chicken kabob platters: both tasty and well-worth the price! Our waiter was boisterous and cheery, smiling and cracking jokes--when the musician played one of his favorite songs, he started dancing and singing along with a passion that was fun to see. One of the highlights of our experience was talking with our busboy, Jose--he was confident and energetic and we had a great talk with him. That guy is definitely going places! This is not the place you want to go to if you want authentic Mediterranean or middle eastern food. The food was very bland and flavorless. The kabob didn't taste like anything and was lacking salt as well. The only decent dish that we tried was the beef piroshky (which was just a glorified egg roll btw with mainly cabbage). Ambience wasn't nice either. The staff was friendly but overall this place wasn't worth my time or money. read more

We have been here before so we were familiar with the food--tapas. Last night was exceptional though because of the service. It was just excellent. We ordered all of our favorites--hummus, babaganoush, beef kabob, chicken kabob, falafel, portabella mushroom, and pomegranate shrimp. Everything was excellent perfectly prepared. I would not change a thing. The pomegranate shrimp stole the day, wow, it is phenomenal. What impressed me was our waiter, Sammy. When the wife ordered a glass of wine that she was not familiar with, he brought her a taste without her even asking. Nice touch. I wanted to order their Turkish (?) beer, Shock Top, but they were out. About half way through our meal and half way done with my Stella, Sammy said the Shock Top had arrived and he would swap out my Stella for the Shock Top, no charge. That was a very nice touch! Overall, the entire wait staff was friendly and really made us feel as if our business was appreciated. Great food, great service, what more can you want? We will definitely return. read more

Mediterranean food is one of my favorite foods and Cafe Izmir is somewhere I'd go again to satisfy that craving. We bought a Groupon deal and used it for a few tapas. I was honestly not sure what to expect but all of their "Best Mediterranean in Dallas" plaques should have been a hint. The hummus was delicious and definitely garlicky in a good way, and the other plates were also amazing, especially the quail and the lamb wraps. Seriously, the lamb wraps were amazing - it was cooked perfectly and well-seasoned. Their house sangria was also nice, and it goes under the category of sangrias with less fruit and more wine. The only point that I found was that the table we were seated at had an obvious leak in the ceiling, but being too focused on the food I forgot to bring it up. They also have a cute little patio-like seating area with lights when it's dark outside, and the inside is very cozy. Good food in a good setting! read more

I used to come here all of the time. It's changed drastically. Everything we had was bland, including the hummus. The falafel was so dry and flavorless I ate one. It was like balls of mushed up stuffing, minus the spices. My husband had to send his dinner back because he said the meat tasted rancid. Not even kidding. The veggies were old. I am so disappointed. The positive reviews must be fake because this is nothing like "authentic" Turkish food. I spent a decent amount of time in Berlin where Turkish food is everywhere, and that was authentic, as there is a large Turkish community there. This was just painful and a waste. I don't enjoy writing bad reviews but this food was just bad and insulting. Also their AC was broken and it's 106 outside. You'd think that they would tell you that before you sat down. read more

Now that it has firmly landed in the epicenter of Texas suburbia, (Plano), totally makes sense. It's on the map. All of Middle East, you have been warned. To Izmir's credit: The hummus is really quite savory - and on the super velvety side. Unsure about universal appeal though. Unfortunately, I have to give this location and experience one star. My mom got food poisoning from the beef kabob, which thankfully I did not have. The food really good! The Izmir hummus was amazing, very smooth and creamy. The pita bread they gave was soft and warm. Ordered the chicken saffron rice plate and lamb rolls. Both were great. the meat was soft and flavorful. Only thing is the tapas of course are small, but the entrée plate was also small. The chicken plan came out on a small thin rectangular shaped plate. Maybe it was an illusion making the plate rectangular, but I saw through it and it was very little for $15. There was only a half of a grilled tomato on the plate also. Overall flavor was on point. The size and the price is what you need to watch out for for an entrée at least. everything else was reasonable. I went for a birthday party here. The owners were nice enough to give the celebrant a bottle of wine! That was really sweet. I recommend this place for birthdays read more

BEWARE GROUPON USERS! Food is good.. It's the change in attitude after showing the groupon that showed what this establishment seeks.. Money. I have come here twice; first time without a groupon and the latest visit was with a groupon. I and my wife had a generous meal of falafel, lamb wrap, saffron rice, and the pomegranate shrimp. It was good although the shrimp is really tangy so those with low citrus tolerance should avoid it. They also gave us the pita and Hummus. End of the meal I mentioned I had a groupon, and so they took my phone along with my card and spent 15mins over the POS system. When they came back, there was a "Groupon Automatic Gratuity" (nowhere in groupon is it mentioned) of more than 20% and they charged us for the pita and Hummus which is complimentary (we have had this during our first visit) . When asked about the gratuity, they said it's system generated which was ridiculous! The guy did revert the charge on the gratuity saying "he will pay for it" Bottomline.. They tried to extract the groupon discount from us through rediculous means which is why we won't be going back read more

I really enjoy Cafe Izmir. My boyfriend and I have been here a couple times each with a Groupon (seem to be featured a lot, check it out). We did the dinner for 2 for $50 and applied the $20 credit from the Groupon. You get to pick three appetizers, three meats/entrees and three sides. The portions are large and the pita endless! The waitstaff is very friendly and accommodating if substitutions - we ordered baba ganoush as an appetizer and it was not one of the options. Atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. Street parking. My girlfriend and I came here one night. The parking is valet only. The food was very good. I had the fried coconut shrimp and I loved it. However what really made this place special was the atmosphere at night. Even on a Saturday night it was not packed at all. The tables were covered in a nice white cloth with nice fake candles. And to top it off the hanging Christmas lights made the room a bit dimmed and really set the mood for a date night. Overall it was a great experience.
