The coffee was very over priced. For 2 8oz coffees and a Danish, it was over $10. Even though this was a specialty coffee, I would drive somewhere else. I could have gotten 2 16oz specialty coffees and a Danish from Starbucks for this price. I always hit these small local coffee shops hoping for a wow factor and left here disappointed. read more

While visiting South Haven, I chose Cafe Julia in hopes of getting a great quality coffee - I loved what their website said about the sourcing of their coffee beans, so I was excited to try them out! However, there was an awkward lack of service here that left me really disappointed. Friends, I don't know what vibe y'all are going for, but you're not hitting it. Interacting with the staff felt like talking to a vacant, condescending mother who's trying to tell me what's best for me whether I like it or not. Yikes. Normally I wouldn't write reviews on places, but what took it for me was when I tried to turn down a plastic bag, preferring to save the plastic and just carry my purchases myself, and the cashier literally forced a plastic bag on us. It was such an awkward exchange - I felt rude not taking plastic, but, wow. Where are the recycling receptacles? Where are the environmentally friendly plastics? If you're going to require your customers to take bags, let's make the paper :) On your website, it sounds like you're passionate about making the word a better place and ethically sourcing your coffee. Let's focus on better customer service and better stewardship of the supplies you have. Even just adding some recycling options would be amazing! We can do better, Cafe Julia! read more

We love the pastries at Julia's but the coffee took so long to make we had finished our piece of cake and still had to wait for our coffee. When we finally got our coffee it was so awful tasting I couldn't drink it. So we threw them out along with the $10 we paid for them. read more

They catered a family event for us. I'd called them with only a few days lead time for the Saturday of Harborfest. We'd had to change the number of people a couple of times, but they were able to handle all my changes in plans with no problem. They did a fantastic job with the variety of food and accommodation of different dietary needs. And the food was wonderful. They delivered it, too, at the time I needed them too, after changing that a couple of times also. read more

This is a very nice place and was very clean. We had lunch here, the food and service was very good. It is quite pricey though.

We were just at Juia's over the 4th of July and loved the menu and food. We had an amazing chicken salad sandwich, cole slaw and an amazing granola cookie! My daughter had one of their specialty drinks and loved it also!! We will definitely go back and would highly recommend it! My husband and I stopped here for a light breakfast. I got a cappuccino and a boston cream cronut. Both were delicious! I hate it when boston creams don't have enough filling in them but this one definitely had the perfect amount. The ambiance is cute and relaxed. Had dinner and enjoyed it. My wife has difficulty with cheese and the staff took care of her spaghetti just fine I had a meatball sandwich which was perfect. Jordan was a terrific server. Traversing Michigan on a business trip this SoCal boy was drawn to the coast, where I found the hamlet of South Haven. I stopped at Cafe Julia and found that they actually served my favorite new brand of tea: Chartreuse! I found it at my local beach cafe and was surprised when, on a business trip to Detroit, that it is actually made in Michigan! I strongly recommend all you unemployed and underemployed Michiganians to head over to Cafe Julia and support your local brew. Come for the food, but stay for the tea, dudes and dudettes! The Chartreuse hibiscus tea is gnarly and good enough to justify stopping just for a refreshing glass of hibiscus tea! Dude! read more

Vegetarian sandwich options are hard to find so I was delighted when I found out they had a sandwich with no meat. It was the best sandwich I've ever had. Most vegetarian sandwiches are just regular sandwiches without the meat, but this one had plenty of veggies which made it so filling. Their cold brew is amazing too! Staff is very helpful and nice. New menu and much lower quality, what a disappointment! I was so excited in July of 2010 to discover this cozy coffee shop with multiple fresh gourmet made-to-order sandwiches. This week I was informed that they "recently changed the menu" - which unfortunately meant eliminating the unique lunch fare and replacing it with 5 options for pre-made, refrigerated sandwiches. The italian sandwich was fair and the bread was soggy, turkey was mediocre. Can get better quality at a grocery store. It seems the quality really went downhill, prices did not. Even less appetizing, I saw on the way out that the scrambled egg breakfast sandwiches were all pre-made and being loaded into the fridge too. Bummed that I need to start all over again to find a decent sandwich shop in South Haven. read more

The upstairs "conversation pit" at Cafe Julia's was a perfect, private, elegant and comfortable venue for a small get-together. Seated 7 of us in a circle of comfy chairs with low tables for our eats/drinks, there were still some unused seats. Very much better than a big tables with chairs, SUPER idea. Was extremely disappointed this past weekend. I have loved going to Julias over the years and had always made it a point to stop by during my trips to South Haven. In fact, we even had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding there, which was delicious.....at the time. This past weekend I ordered the Cafe Salad which was disgusting, to say the least. I paid $10 for iceberg lettuce and canned chicken nastiness. Even the wrigley bar seemed to be lacking. What happened to the quality..if we're paying good money for a salad, I'd like to get something in return. Bring the spice of life salad back! read more

We dropped in on a long car ride. We ordered an iced coffee, iced chai, breakfast sandwich and veggie sandwich. It took 15 minutes to get our food. The breakfast sandwich had overcooked bacon and the veggie sandwich had way too many carrots. We would not recommend this place. read more

Ten of us went to Julia's for lunch the day before my daughter's wedding. Since we had a large group, I called ahead about two weeks in advance. The person I spoke to assured me we would have a table and took my name. When we arrived, the manager had no record of our party and told me they were completely booked. He was rather dismissive and didn't seem very concerned. We found some open tables and put them together. Everyone ordered their food separately. Some orders came out during the course of 45 minutes..they were just sandwiches. An hour later two of us still had not received our sandwiches. I requested to speak to the manager who was very rude, telling me they were busy and there was nothing he could do (honestly, he seemed more bothered that I had pulled him aside, and had no desire to make anything right). Finally, a very kind waitress came to our table, asked us what we ordered, and had our food out to us in under 5 minutes. She also apologized and brought us complementary cookies and brownies. She should have been the manager! The food was good, but the management was awful. I would not eat at Julia's again and caution you if you plan on going there with a large group! read more
