The only reason why I'm not giving a fifth star is that the place is somehow always extremely noisy (others are also constantly packed but somehow Lush really is loud) and that they use plastic glasses. I really love the food here, especially since there are so many great gluten free options. BUT, I've never had a great customer service experience, and my last visit felt more like discrimination than just bad service. I recently visited on a chilly Saturday morning for brunch with a friend who happens to have a service dog. When we walked in, we were eyed up and down, our dog was stared at, and we were offered a table outside (despite the fact that the patio was closed and there were open seats in the restaurant). We decided to go ahead and take the outdoor table even though it was a bit chilly, but because the patio was closed it took a good 10 minutes or so for them to get us set up and seated. Throughout our meal, our experience didn't get much better. Our dog kept getting rude looks, service was poor (so much so that I even had to go inside to ask for a water refill), and one of our meals came out undercooked. At one point, the owner came out to attempt to explain the issue with our dog (she said the restaurant is too small to accommodate a service dog) and poor service, but by then we were already feeling pretty done and her explanations weren't cutting it. Food this time was much more mediocre than I've had at previous visits, too. Overall, I was really disappointed with this visit and I'm not sure if I'll return, which is too bad because this is a great little spot downtown despite the sometimes poor customer service. read more

My husband and I were visiting ABQ recently and found this gem while I was researching restaurants with gluten free options. We liked it so much we went back. The food was great and the service was too. I wish I could remember names better because I would like to mention the lady who served us outdoors on April 3rd and the 5th for lunch. My husband especially loved the raspberry hibiscus tea. We enjoyed everything we tried. Between us we had the omelet, breakfast burrito, the Davis, and the St. Gregory. I wish I could have tried the french toast (gf) but we had a big day ahead of us and the sugar wouldn't have helped. Hopefully one day in the future. We highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Lush is about 4-star good in general, which is pretty good, but stellar 5-star GREAT for the gluten free crowd. The breakfast "pizza" is a winner (it's the only menu item I've tried so far). Make sure you specify gluten free when you order - the "GF" tag on the menu means that gluten free is available, and not that the item is gluten free. This mostly affects the additions that accompany the entree, like muffins, tortillas, toast, etc. The Lush folks are very nice and generous. I failed to specify gluten free and got a glutinous muffin and tortilla instead of GF toast. To make up for *my* mistake they gave my wife and me two complimentary GF brownies, which didn't look like much but were AMAZING, as in better than most conventional brownies amazing: chewy, richly flavored, multi-textured, not overly sweet, etc! Can't wait to go back! A small gripe: the sound control/management inside is poor when it is busy. This is easy to fix by simply filling the walls with small framed art, which is why you never find bare walls in corporate restaurants. I couldn't hear what my wife was saying even though she sat directly across from me at a small table. read more

Not kid-friendly. :( It was cold and rainy at the farmers market this morning, so we decided to go to Lush to warm up over brunch and espresso. Two couples and two toddlers. As soon as we got there, the hostess said, "We only have one high chair, and it's really big." Okay, no big deal. It's a small restaurant, so we had to place a couple of two-tops together to sit down. The server brought the high chair in from outside, and it was pretty huge - definitely too big for the tiny restaurant. It wasn't one of the stack-able wooden high chairs found in 99.9% of restaurants, but a bulky, plastic one with a large tray. The server looked annoyed as she brought it over. Granted, one of the toddlers was getting fussy, but as soon as we got her in her chair and brought out some snacks, she was all set. We had a nice brunch. One of the kiddos sat on her mom's lap and the other in the high chair. Both behaved like perfect angels, which as anyone with toddlers knows, is not always the case! At one point, when the server was bringing something over, she curtly said that the high chair was blocking someone from another table from getting out of their seat. We shifted the chair out of the way with a nod and a smile. (But this could have been avoided if the restaurant had provided a high chair appropriate for the space.) Again, the server sounded annoyed and rude. Right after we had paid our bill, when one of the kids was still eating, the server came over and flat-out said, "There's a party of 8 waiting for this table. They're out in their cars right now. I just thought you should know that." Then she walked off. Seriously, what was that? There were at least two other empty tables in the restaurant, and we were occupying just two tiny two-tops. Frankly, cobbling together a party of 8 in such a tiny restaurant is an ambitious goal, but to basically tell a group of paying customers to scram because they're taking up valuable real estate in your restaurant? Without even an apology or a smile? That was so beyond rude and made us feel extremely unwelcome, on top of the sour attitude clouding the whole visit. They may have gained some extra $$ from that group of 8, but they lost me. I'm not saying I'll never return - the food is great - but I certainly won't highly recommend this place to friends. You don't have to spend $20 to be treated like dirt. read more

I have wanted to visit Cafe Lush since it opened. Being only a couple of blocks from my home, it would be an ideal alternative to Flying Star. So, when Urban Swipe had a voucher available, I jumped at it. The voucher was only valid for breakfast and we did not realize that breakfast was not served all day until we arrived. That was my error but they were willing to accept the Urban Swipe for lunch. We were really hoping for breakfast but the husband was willing to make lunch work for my sake since I had been looking forward to our visit. Unfortunately, the temperature inside the restaurant was so incredibly warm that it was not conducive to a pleasant dining experience. That, in conjunction with the limited and pretentious menu, led to our decision to leave. The husband went up to the counter to inform them that we would be leaving and there was no need to serve the coffee and water we had just ordered. In a stroke of unbelievably bad customer service, he was told that the coffee he requested had already been poured and he would, therefore, need to pay for it. So, he paid for the coffee and took it to go. It was horrible - watery and cheap tasting. This was the final straw for me. Rather than discard 5 or 10 cents worth of coffee in the hopes of having us return for breakfast on another day, we were charged $2 and will never return. Yes, it was my mistake that we missed breakfast and it was our choice to not order from the lunch menu. However, in this economy, I am always amazed that small businesses do take a little more care of potential customers. As I said, Cafe Lush is very close to my house and we eat out at least 4 days a week. It was more likely than not that we would be visiting again but that is no longer an option. It would have been nice to taste the food but there is no excuse for poor customer service. And, if you were wondering, we ate at Flying Star and had a wonderful meal. read more

Awesome downtown joint! I will be coming back frequently. They have a small breakfast and lunch menu, and I just found out they are open for brunch on Saturday. All menu items are priced right, from $6-9. I had the lushaladas and they were good, filling, and just the right portion. The coffee is delicious, and you can get refills to go. The owners are fabulous and live downtown as well. They came and checked up on us and were friendly and provided excellent service. They have created a cute and intimate cafe with lots of outdoor seating. Wi-Fi? Yes! I will be coming to set up office and drink that wonderful coffee! read more

Visited this place from out of town while on a business trip. I came here specifically because they advertised gluten free food, and I was not disappointed!! The French Toast was something I think I might find in heaven. It was delicious, just the right size, and most importantly gluten free! I went back a day later and had the breakfast burrito, which was also very yummy ! I really enjoyed the chili sauces they provided. Also the baked goods were incredible! Had the berry cobbler, the coffee cake (my favorite of the 3), and a cinnamon apple scone (over the course of a few days ;) ) and they were all so delicious! This place made my day! read more

Just found this place (via yelp!) and thought i'd try it out! I walked here from my work which was very convenient- and ordered the Mango Chicken Salad. The portion was smaller than what I would say I expected, but It was the perfect (and more appropriate) portion size. The chicken was juicy and nicely flavored and the mango ripe and delicious! or (deLUSHious as I heard another customer say). The bacon was amazing as well. The only thing I would ask for next time is more bacon and mango to compliment the chicken as it was such a nice combination! Not at all the experience I had expected... My best friend and I had breakfast here for the first time this morning and it left much to be desired. The waitress seemed not interested in waiting on us at all; we both had to repeat our order 3 times with her standing less than a foot away. For as many times as we repeated it; it still wasn't correct. Ordered a hot chai latte and it came out freezing cold. Asked for water multiple times; which we didn't get until the very end of the meal... and it was given to us by a completely different server than our original one. Our original server never once came to check on our table; and we had to chase her down to ask for our check. I ordered the fruit and yogurt parfait and a side of SD toast... My toast had pieces of plastic on it... For the price we paid; the service was not good and the food left much to be desired. Won't be back; but it is nice to see better reviews for this place than mine. Glad someone had a good experience here.... read more

I have been here a few times and like this place. I was reminded why yesterday when I went there for lunch. I was meeting two colleagues and when I arrived there were only 2 top tables available. I told the server I was fine to wait since my party hadn't arrived, but she said to go ahead and sit at one of the two tops and they would figure something else out. She brought me water and a menu and then my party arrived. We said we were fine to sit at a two top with a chair on the end and she seemed very relieved. Then she said that the credit card machine was down, and they would take cash or a check but if we didn't have it we could come back and pay or they would figure something out. Um, that's super trusting! But one of my colleagues was a regular so that was probably it. I had a chop salad (half size) and my two friends had the soup of the day. The whole bill was like 15 bucks. Seriously, for fresh local food what is better? Definitely check this place out if you are downtown. read more

This place is good. We went on a Saturday and had their $12.95 brunch special. I ate a turkey sausage and spinach omelette. I requested cheese as well, but there was either very little or they forgot to put it in the omelette. The omelette itself was good and very tasty. I also really loved the hashbrowns (those were honestly my favorite part of the meal). The muffin was not bad. I believe it was a pumpkin chocolate chip. It was a little bit more mushy than I like them to taste, but overall flavor was okay. The side of fruit is really small. They heat it, and in my personal opinion it would probably taste better purely fresh. The food is very different from your typical New Mexican breakfast. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is also very different. You almost feel like you are vacationing in a different town and eating at a little bistro. It is really crowded inside so if you want a more secluded eating environment, eat on their patio. Overall the food is not bad. The staff is friendly, and it is a nice local dine. It's pricey so keep that in mind, but if you are looking for something local and a little different than the traditional New Mexican breakfast give this place a try. read more

Go eat here! I'm visiting Albuquerque for three weeks and got the opportunity to try cafe lush, this past Thursday for lunch. The lushaladas are to die for. There is a great energy within this small establishment and it's clear the customers love coming back. The wait staff was super perky and helpful. The older woman walking around seemed to be in charge, she knew practically everyone. I think this says a lot. My friends food was superb and from what it seems everyone finishes their plate here. A few blocks from my downtown hotel and a much better (and tastier) value than eating breakfast there. Went one morning to try the breakfast burrito. DELICIOUS! It comes with cheese, red or green chili, and your choice of 3 fillings. You can also get it smothered, or hand-held. I went with eggs and their green chili sausage in the hand-held variety. (I know that's only 2 fillings, but that's all I wanted. It was nice not to have to get rice, potatoes, or other extra carbs.) I liked it so much the first morning that I went back the next day. It's also a good value - very large burrito for only $6. Hopefully one day I can also try the lunch menu. But, I have a feeling I'll be waking up a bit earlier on my ABQ visits to work in time to walk down the street and pick up another breakfast burrito. YUM! read more

A friend of mine recommended this place to me when she knew I would be in Albuquerque for a concert. It's a cute little place. My fiancé and I decided to sit outside since it was such a nice morning. We went for breakfast. I personally for the tofu scramble. It was great! Great vegan option as well! It was tofu scrambled with tomatoes, black beans, and spinach. It also came with hash browns and toast. I ate every last bite! Couldn't help myself. The coffee was nice as well. My fiancé got the smothered breakfast burrito. What I think is cool about getting the burrito is you can choose from a list what you want in it. It was definitely a massive burrito! Looked like an extra fat enchilada. Lol! read more

I ordered the breakfast croissant with egg whites and ham on gluten free bread and it was very good. I would not recommend this place for any group over 4 as there is hardly any seating and I also would not recommend if you don't have much time because me and my friend waited over 20 minutes for what we ordered even though there was hardly anyone there and not one, but two cooks. This is a very good spot to go to when you have time to sit down and enjoy some coffee while you wait for your food.
