I love a good sandwich option and that is exactly what you'll find at Cheese & Coffee. This wasn't my first time to cheese & coffee but it was to this location, I'd only ever been to the uptown location and I liked this one better for sure. I ordered a spicy Italian sandwich with fries and it was stellar. Large portions and the service was great. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the cookie we ordered but next time I'd opt for the cake that looked delicious. read more

I have heard nothing but "thumbs-up" for this little lunch place . . . so when my daughter and I stopped in for a quick lunch yesterday, I was disappointed. The service was friendly; the deco was homey and made you feel comfortable; and the lunch menu was extensive. So extensive that I had trouble deciding on which option I would choose. Everyone around me at the other tables seemed to be thoroughly enjoying their meals; that just made choosing harder. What to choose? What to choose? I finally settled on the Fruit & Cheese plate. Fruit salad, a wedge of brie, sliced cheeses & a croissant. How could I go wrong? Well, it was a poor choice yesterday. Huge mound of cut up fruit: three kinds of melon, plus pineapple; a croissant that was fairly fresh, but without butter or any condiment; four slices of sandwich cheese and no brie. Brie is what sold me on the Fruit & Cheese plate. The fruit was overripe. The honeydew melon was the first bite I took. My Mother taught me to never take food out of your mouth at the table - unless there is a bone in it. Well, no bone . . . but not good. Took it out. Then I tried a piece of pineapple . . . it too did not have any bones, but was overripe. But the honeydew had to go. My children tell me I am too nice. I don't speak up when I should. I don't like to make waves. I am not inclined to complain when I should. But they tell me . . . and they are right . . . how will a business ever fix a problem, or keep from serving the next customer with something that is not acceptable? Normally I wouldn't write a review on Cheese & Coffee. I would just go back and give them another try. I have heard too many good things about their menu, location and service. But, when the server picked up the plate, she commented on the fact that the large quantity of fruit was still there. My daughter, who has more chutzpah than I do, said that the fruit was overripe. And when we went up to the front to pay, they took off the price of our drinks. If I had been bolder and told them in the beginning my concerns, maybe we wouldn't have paid $9.50 for some dry bread, overripe fruit & sliced sandwich cheese. So . . . this review is my way of attempting to get some chutzpah of my own and also to APOLOGIZE to the restaurant for not being honest about my disappointment. I will come back. I will try something else on the menu. I will update this review. It is a cute little place, close to Old Town, great service and a great menu. Go try it and let me know. read more

I live nearby but work Uptown so it's rare I can eat at a M-F eatery downtown. Took a day off recently and this was my choice. Always delicious and reliable! I miss them being open on Saturdays but I know they have their other concept Seared to prep for. read more

This is my first time here. I ordered a Ruben that came with many choices of salads or soups. I got the green Chile soup. It was the right amount of spiciness and delicious. The Ruben was also delicious, grilled perfectly. I will definitely come back. read more

There are two Cheese & Coffee cafes in Albuquerque, and in my limited experience, I heavily prefer this location, and I'm pretty sure it begins with ambiance and light. (Personal note: I have SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder, meaning overcast skies and dark spaces make Howie a dull boy; the more vitamin D in my life, the better.) This cafe lets the light in through some nice north facing windows, and that's particularly important for the lunchtime crowd, who can do without the dark vibe. Across the board the place nails what you're looking for in an efficient midday lunch: quick service, a kitchen that knocks out the plates pronto, and crowd-friendly recipes that don't take risks. Portions reasonably match affordable prices, and typically the owner or manager can be found patrolling the floor, making sure all is good in the 'hood. It's an absolute option when I'm looking for a good spot to connect with someone professionally, and you won't wait long for a table. read more

I found this lunch Cafe on Yelp and since the reviews were mostly positive, my wife and I decided to give it a shot. The reviews were right on. We initially were a bit disappointed since we sat at our table for about five minutes before our presence was even acknowledged. The server apologized for the delay and in all fairness we came in just after lunch and they were still pretty busy. My wife ordered the Patty Melt with potato salad and I had the Cubano with Green Chili Chicken soup. The food arrived quite quickly, which alleviated our initial concern. My wife loved the Patty Melt although she said that the potato salad was just average. The Cubano sandwich was great with plenty of meat (I could only eat half the sandwich - the rest came home with me for lunch the next day). The Green Chili Chicken soup was outstanding! Just the right amount of spiciness. The menu listed a variety of sandwiches - many of which you won't find in most cafes. We definitely will be back (often) working our way through the wide variety. This little dive is CAFE PERFECTION. The space is neat and bright; the staff is experienced and actually the best wait staff I've ever had - thorough and relaxed and five star attention without the pretense. And then the food. THE FOOD! The staff is (almost) as good as the food (which is saying something because the staff is stellar and friendly and as down to earth as can be), but if you are looking for your favorite deli sandwich done right - this is your place. I tried the (turkey) Reuben, and it was juicy, plentiful, and really tasty - all the things a Reuben should be. I can tell that I will get cravings for it from now on when I want a Reuben! My husband got the Rio Grande (sandwich) which was bursting with flavor and left him extremely satisfied. All sandwiches come with a side of soup or salad (great deal for the price!) --- we got the soup they have every Friday...I think it was Green Chili Chicken...I am from the East coast and not huge on spicy, but all I can say is that I was super glad my husband got full before the soup was gone because I couldn't get enough!! SO YUMMY and satisfying! And one last thing, our server went the extra mile effortlessly and brought us their homemade ranch dip to have with our potato chips...Move over Hidden Valley! This was my first visit to this little, quaint deli-style shop! They offer some outstanding coffee with free refills that really made it worth it! I ordered the pasta salad (the large portion) & was a bit disappointed by the small portion. Otherwise, it tasted alright. It was comparable to the pasta salad that you'd find at a grocery store. Really tasty! Went for lunch and everything was delicious- cubano sandwich was my favorite.

The hostess was kind in of to let us in with only 30 minutes to close. We thanked her profusely once we had our first bite. I went with two of my friends and we all had different items. First off, I need to get something off of my chest. Sandwiches are not my favorite. Yeah, I said it. Give me options for lunch, and I'm not likely to choose anywhere that's sandwichey. That being said... this place is freaking awesome. I had the gyro... which I was surprised to find on the menu, honestly. I ordered it because it sounded good and also because I was interested to see if it WAS good. Yep, it was. Super flavorful meat, hot pita, everything you want in a gyro. I got a side of potato salad because for some weird reason, I wanted that too... and it was delish. I prefer my potato salad to be more on the mustardy side of the fence, and theirs is great! Excellent egg salad. The staff here are very friendly and the food is good. They have great menu sandwiches, but you can also build your own, which is awesome. I had an egg salad and roast beef sandwich - the waitress and my husband both got completely grossed out, but it was YUMMY! They made it exactly as I had asked and it was perfect. Loved it! I like this place a lot. This time I got the Reuben and wasn't as impressed. Usually the meat when I have ordered them elsewhere is really tender, the meat here was very tough and dry. I didn't like it. The green chile stew was great, but it was incredibly hot which was annoying. I had to wait quite a while for it to cool down. I had a ten spot burning a hole in my wallet, so me and Rocket winged it on over to the best place, by far, for lunch: the Cheese & Coffee restaurant off of San Pasquale Ave SW Albuquerque! It is not only affordable, but so very delicious, and you can dine there for weeks without repeating a selection from their very interesting menu! Jan is a very warm and beautiful person, and offers a very meaningful welcome when you arrive. That to me, means a lot. Rocket never gets a hug, so I get 2 and give him one. Just kidding! This location offers the best green chile chicken noodle soup on the planet! You could stay there all day, because you want to keep eating it! It's that good! AND: the drinks are the tallest in town; and endless to boot!!!!! Fellow Yelpers, please don't just take my word for it; you have to try this for yourselves! Very disappointed. I have visited the other franchise and really liked it. We were served salads where the greens were actually brown. The cheese plate was served with watermelon and pineapple that was way past its prime. The menus said the cheese plate came with Brie. None present. The other cheeses could've been purchased from the refrigerator case at Walgreens. Given the first word in the name of the restaurant being cheese, it was a great disappointment. We showed the offending foods to the waitress and she removed the charge for salads from our check. I will continue to visit the cafe at uptown but not this one. read more

We stop here everytime we are in town. We always try a different item and have loved them all. My husband and I always get a different item so we can share. The desserts are to die for.
