As we were brainstorming what type of cuisine we wanted, we both agreed upon West Asian/Middle Eastern. So, of course, I hopped on Yelp and was delighted to findCafe X2O! Seeing that it was a Lebanese spot, I knew that the food would be pretty good from the get-go. When we arrived to the restaraunt for late lunch, we were seated promptly, given the menus, and water to drink. We ordered the chicken breast kabob plate, the beef shawarma plate, with sides of grilled vegetables, hummus, baba ghanouj, and toum (garlic sauce). Of the bunch, the baba ghanouj and toum were my FAVORITE! SO FLAVORFUL! As for the grilled vegetables, I'm personally not a fan of whole roasted roma tomatoes and a whole grilled zucchini. The chicken kabob and beef shawarma plates were pretty yummy! However, I did prefer the meat and the rice to be a lot more seasoned & salted. They both tasted a bit too bland for my personal liking, however, the proteins were tender and cooked to perfection! (I do tend to be extremely particular about West Asian/Middle Eastern food, given that I am West Asian/Middle Eastern myself and have high expectations when eating out - hence the preference in extra seasoning! ) I was slightly disappointed that they didn't have ayran (Middle Eastern yogurt drink), as most spots tend have this on their beverage menu. That would've been perfect to sip on the extremely hot day it was! I do plan on coming back here to try out their falafel and shawarma wraps. Highly recommend to folks in the area that are curious to try West Asian/Middle Eastern food and are looking for a solid spot to eat!

Their fattoush salad is huge and one of the best I've had in Southern California. The falafel is flavorful and cooked through perfectly. The chicken is perfectly marinated. I also absolutely love their spicy labneh dip, too. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend checking them out. They also have a La Verne and Monrovia location.

We walked in and were greeted right away--no one else was inside, which gave us time to explore the menu. Miriam, the young woman at the counter, was polite and patient while I explained the different dishes to my grandmother. She decided on a plate with lamb and steak kabobs, hummus, tabbouleh, cucumber yogurt, rice, and garlic sauce. I ordered the Zaky Bowl with beef & lamb shawarma, rice, and garlic sauce. We sat at a booth and waited while they cooked everything fresh, which was a nice surprise. The restroom was clean and the soda machine was self-serve for easy refills. When the food came out, it looked great and tasted even better. My grandmother enjoyed her meal and mentioned she'd come back here in the future as a healthier option. Fresh food, kind service, and a chill spot tucked right across from Norm's. Worth the visit.

You have to drive around to the front door. Not a lot of parking.

The wait is a joke. It is posted that it will take 10-15 minutes for kabob plates, but more like 20-25. Just dumb.

FIRST THING..this review is pretty much based on value/pricing, we stop by and gave it a try, 2nd time for me trying this kind of food and 1st time for the wife, this is not a fancy place, but it is nice and cozy small Cafe she had the garlic salmon and I had the beef and chicken kabob, (keep in mind that we are Mexican's) and have no clue of how authentic or how good or bad it suppose to taste, but I can say it did have good flavor and we did like it, NOW the only set back or bad about this place for me, is the price, I found it to be a bit high based on the food portions, kabob's are or were a bit small, a bit over cooked on the chicken but it did have good seasoning. Would we go back, I would, but will look for another place to try and see if the value is better...(hope the taste is too) read more

I recently dined at Café Moderno in Montclair and thoroughly enjoyed the Chicken Souvlaki plate. The flavors were fantastic, especially the Greek salad and hummus. The garlic pita was a delightful addition to our meal. The cozy ambiance and friendly service enhanced our overall experience. A solid choice for Mediterranean cuisine in this charming shopping center. The only thing I would suggest for improvement is having someone with a bit more energy at the front counter. While the service was polite, a young and vibrant individual with excellent customer service skills would enhance the overall experience at Café Moderno. Nevertheless, the delicious food and pleasant ambiance make it a four-star spot in Montclair. read more

Food is awesome! Best hummus and sandwiches I've ever tried, so flavorful. The pita bread is awesome and toasty. All of their food is so good. They serve beer! And the prices are awesome for everything. Place is super nice and cozy. The server, Genesis, is really the best. She's so nice and takes care of you the whole time. She really works hard and still manages to make sure you're okay. And she's cute.. :) Location is pretty hidden, but spread the word about it. This is a really good spot! I was expecting gyro meat (slices) yet I received chopped up pieces instead. The flavor was also lacking yet it's not something a little bit of salt can't fix. Several of us went here. Two of us were vegan, and they accomodated us easily. The hummus is fantastic, and the salads and veggies were great. One person in our group got salmon and said it was very good too. Some people might overlook this place because of its location in a strip mall, but it's worth a try! read more

Swung by for a quick lunch. Had the lamb gyro plate. Was hot and quick, tasted fine but could tell the gyro wasn't freshly sliced off the spit. Food is tasty. Portion is small compared to price. Seems like everything is counted. For example: my salad had one small piece of tomato, two olives, one small slice of cucumber and one hair-sized red pepper. Portions seem more when eating at the restaurant compared to take-out.
