This place is an absolute hidden gem!!! The food was phenomenal! We tried the beef and the cheese empanadas with the red chimichurri sauce. The beef was tender l, the cheese was melty and the empanada was flaky and light! The hummus and garlic sauce with pita bread was so unbelievably flavorable. The garlic sauce was light and had an amazing hint of lemon! The hummus was airy and not dense. We also tried the burger which was also great! Also Wally was an amazing host! I hate to leave a mixed review but here we go. Hubby and I stopped in for lunch based on the good reviews for this spot and were the only ones there. We peruse the menu and at first decided on just 2 empanadas but the cook/owner(?) told us we had to get 3 to get the chimichurri so we got chicken, veggie and beef. As we're looking at the menu for entrees, he reaches into the prep drawer and puts the empanadas in the fryer with bare hands then comes back to register and continues taking our order. We ended up getting chicken shawarma and chicken kabob, both of which I guess come with grilled veggies and were all bare handedly placed on the grill...then the same hands came back and touched the register repeatedly. Honestly this grossed me out a bit but at the same time, I'm pretty sure this happens in most kitchens without me knowing since they're not as open as this place. The seating and decor area was also not that clean, he told us to let him know if a table was dirty when we sat down so he could clean it...shouldn't this be something that's already taken care of? Forks and napkins were put out in the open for anyone to grab, something else that wasn't very sanitary. Regardless, the empanadas were slightly greasy but had flavor, the chimichurri sauce was good. Both entrees were super generous and tasted good, we did end up taking the rest to go bc it was so much food. I don't usually take time for reviews but I was looking for something that would still be open in the Claremont area but not down in the crowded village and not fast food. I've been meaning to try this spot for a while. FYI the posted hours on yelp are wrong, they close down at 9pm not 11. I felt bad showing up as he was cleaning and shutting down but the owner, Wally, was happy to serve me still. I really love gyros and saw that they had babaghanouj, and Wally convinced me since it was my first time in that I should try the empanadas so I ordered one. Now I'm sitting here after enjoying as much as I could and I still have a lot of babaghanouj (which was so fabulously smoked and a nice balance of lemon and plentiful olive oil) and a third of the gyro left. The flavors are so fantastic and he was right about the empanadas. People here complain about them being too oily but that's just the nature unless you bake them but then they're too dry. Someone said you'd be better off with the ones from Trader Joe's...that's a hard pass these are so much better. Next time I hope to try the lamb gyro but I need to go earlier. I've tried some other Mediterranean restaurants around here but this is way more authentic and Wally is so kind. I will be back soon! read more

Not really happy with this experience. I was hoping to get a salad and an entree, or a "Boca burger". But was talked into getting fried empanadas that were oily and had no flavor, and the "sauce" was heavy on parsley and raw garlic. Not a good sauce but I ate it, and there was only one sauce so no options. 4 empanadas on the menu, but the owner said there are 6-7 types. Why are they not on the menu, and why did both the beef options he gave me taste the exact same? Also he said they were small and insisted that I needed 6 for my girl and me. We finished 2, they are heavy and not flavorful. I think my rating is generous, but holy cow this is a miss. Just get the Trader Joe's and save your money. I'm sad I spent money here. read more

The food is good, but my experiences felt misleading. I ordered a gyro and was served a full platter without clearly agreeing to it, and the final bill was much higher than the listed menu price. This exact thing happened twice, a year apart. The owner is charismatic and outgoing, but the ordering process feels pushy and unclear, and the upcharge is framed as items being offered "on the house," which did not feel transparent. Have seen this establishment multiple times in my trips into trader Joe's but hadn't stopped. Now I regret all those times I walked by and didn't go in! Wallie is not only a one man show, he's also so kind and welcoming! My son and I enjoyed splitting a chicken shawarma sandwich. So full of flavor from both the chicken and the tahini AND garlic sauce, crunchy texture from the fresh lettuce, refreshing tomato's and parsley to balance. Music was playing vs being blasted like many other places do. Enjoyed some classics while we were in. Stumbled upon this place while waiting for the tow truck to arrive and my friend and I were so glad we decided to give this a try. Flavor of foods are 9/10. I am not a fan of hummus so I didn't care too much for it. However, my friend loved it. It does come with a lot of rice which didn't do much since my order only came with only one skewer of meat. For the price, it definitely does come with a lot food. Reminds me of those overstuffed Chinese restaurant. My friend and I were also glad we got empanadas to try because it was so flaky with yummy beef stuffing. Indoors seatings are little limited if busy, but for lunch time, most seats were available. So if you're in a rush for lucnh, this place would be good since the wait time was very minimal We will definitely be back, esp for those empanadas! read more

Was craving a burger and wanted to try a place we haven't tried. Found this place on Yelp and based on the reviews, we headed out to Claremont. We are glad we did. The food was really good. The burger was juicy and they add the chimichuri (tomato based) sauce which really made it tasty. We enjoyed the beef kabob plate and really liked the empanadas...especially the beef and chicken...the cheese was just plain but with the sauce it was good. After shopping at Trader Joe's (TJ) in Claremont and as I was walking to my car, I turned my head and saw Boca Burger right next door to TJ. I was curious on what they specialize in. Well, don't let the name fool you. It actually has an extension to its name... Boca Burger with a Little Bit of Argentina. You got to look close to see the second half. Anyway, even though I am not a burger fan, I decided to give it a try since I do like Mediterranean foods especially kabobs. There was no one dining at the time. A nice gentleman walked up to the counter and greeted me immediately. Since this was my first time here, I needed a minute to decide. I usually have my go-to Mediterranean food items... chicken kabobs with rice and hummus. So that's what I got chicken kabob plate plus an order of grape leaves. The wait for my to-go order was about 10 mins which wasn't too bad. Chicken kabob came with 1.5 skewers of kabobs which I found odd. Why wouldn't I get 2 full skewers??? Anyway, chicken kabobs were a tad dry and tough... not moist at all IMHO... I've eaten better. Rice pilaf, hummus, and salad were okay. Grape leaves were cold... not the greatest. I had checked into Yelp and was so happy to see 10% off total bill, however, the gentleman said the 10% off only applies to catering. Of course the Yelp discount didn't indicate anything about catering. Anyhoo, I took the gentleman word for it unless he was pulling my leg. I would suggest the Yelp discount be changed and be more specific and clear so there's no confusion. Staff was very friendly. Prices were okay. Btw, service charge applies for credit card use. Atmosphere was very clean and comfy. Will I be back? Probably not. You're more than welcome to give them a try. I used to eat at Boca Burger very frequently as a student at Claremont High School about a decade ago, and recently found myself in the area and paid them a visit again. The chef, Wally, greeted me like he would an old friend, happy to hear of my return. His joyful nature uplifted my spirit, and our conversation was the highlight of my day. Not to mention, the food was extremely delicious and very reasonably priced too! I had a schwarma wrap, and the meat was both flavorful and well seasoned. I would like to preface this by saying the owner/cook is very sweet. He offered to make me something else and said he didn't want to leave me hungry and had apologized a few times. As we walked out he said to please give him another chance and amongst other things. I don't know if his business is hanging on and cannot afford a bad review or if any of these reviews are real... I also never bother with reviews. I do feel like it needs to be said how unhygienic this restaurant really is. Starting with the bag of lettuce he was making our burger and beef shawarma with, obviously over its expiration date. I mean mushy, you could smell it in before you could even take a bite of your food. We asked for ranch and he brought out an expired bottle. ( March 26, 2025 expired ). When I ordered i told him I wanted the beef shawarma sandwich to which he counter offered me the chicken, saying it was already made, it's more popular and that it would take a minute to grill the beef. I should've taken that as a sign. So when I had said I didn't like it and asked for a refund he reminded me that he DID offer me the chicken, that it was more popular. I had no intention to leave a bad review so that's why I did not take any pictures of the state of the restaurant or the food we received. I was actually very heart broken to ask that man for a refund, I have never done that to a small business or fast food place in general. I barely had the courage to ask for my money back for my beef shawarma sandwich and hummus. But I did and we bit the bullet for the rest of the food we had to throw away ( $35 ). The boca burger was severely underdone. Like a frozen burger that never got fully cooked, pink and mushy. I did not know that you have to pay extra for the garlic. Additionally, I ordered 3 empanadas and wanted 1 beef, 1 spinach, and 1 chicken. I got 3 beefs instead - which is not a big deal since it was tastily delicious. However, I will say that $3.50 for 1 empanada is a bit pricey. Placed a pick up order last night and the older man working was so sweet and helpful! We chatted a bit and I realized he stayed open for us. I felt a little bad because I had no idea! He never once made me feel rushed! I ordered the chicken shawarma plate and once I got to the establishment to pick up my ordered he let me add empanadas to my order.
