I made the mistake of not ordering hummus because for some reason I thought it would just be included? Again, my mistake, not a reflection on them. The red wine vinaigrette dressing is really good, the rice doesn't have a ton of flavor but it's good, not dry at all. The falafel is actually the most flavorful I've had, and not too dry either. My husband said the chicken and grilled vegetables were really good. The veggies weren't overly cooked and soggy and still had a bite to them. It's our most favorite Falafel place in the area, and trust me, we have tried every single one within a 15 mile radius! Everything we get here is 5 stars: Falafel plate with Grilled veggies and Rice. -The veggies are grilled perfectly, taste fresh, not frozen and they give you a decent amount. I came across this place while waiting on my car for an oil change . Based on Yelp I had to give it a try The place is nice and quite which I love .Next thing their prices I mean I expected to pay so much more for Mediterranean. I ordered the chicken wrap with fries . My second visit to Cafe Moderno was as good as the first. The entrees are priced very well for the quality and quantity of food you get. I have tried both the Modern Greek Salad and Theo's Original Greek Salad. Both included fresh ingredients, and the dressing and cheese were both awesome. My main course was the three kabob plate. As indicated above, the portion is excellent for the price. Each kabob was covered in delicious spices and cooked perfectly. The plate comes with two sides of your choice (mediterranean fries and grilled vegetables in my case), pita bread, and tzatiziki sauce. The mediterranean fries were average because the grilled vegetables stole the side show. The vegetables were fresh and seasoned and cooked perfectly. The tzatizki sauce is amazing; a perfect combination of yogurt, dill, cucumber, and garlic. You might want to take some to go. You must also try the baklava here. It is flaky, light, and of course sweet. Quick shout out to our server. She was super friendly and helpful when we asked questions about the menu and entrees. A fight at my friend's BBQ broke out as they argued about the steaks. Police came because two of my friends said that they each cook better then the other. Pretty good place if you're in the mood for Mediterranean. I got the chicken souvalki ($12.62). I usually go to Clare's or Saca's and their portion sizes here are a bit smaller. After a failed attempt at a late Dr. Grubbs lunch, the kid and I made our way to Café Moderno. Although I love Greek food, my only concern was not being able to try any of their meat dishes. I'm off of poultry, beef and pork until April so fish has been my primary source of protein. We came in at 230P and it was nicely empty. The kid wanted the nuggets and fries and I opted for the fried zucchini, tilapia with grilled veggies and rocka salad, and for dessert, we got the bougasta. My kid loved her nuggets and fries. I didn't partake since I had a slew of other dishes coming. My zucchini came out first. The pieces were large and lightly battered served with a side of tzatziki. This was such a simple yet delicious side dish. I'm so glad I didn't have to share because I pretty much polished off the entire plate. Oh and that tzatziki sauce? It cool and paired with the zucchini (and everything else) really well. My fish entrée was serviced beautifully plated. Unfortunately, my fish was a bit on the dry side. Fortunately, I had more tzatziki sauce to moisten it up. I'm telling you that sauce was magic. Veggies and salad were good. Nothing out of the ordinary. We ended our meal with the bougasta which is custard pie with phyllo dough as the crust. Cool idea, but it wasn't that good. The phyllo had become soggy and the actual custard was stiff unappetizing. I wanted to like this place more than I did. The servers were very nice and accommodating, but here we go: 1) Calamari appetizer: Nice twist when served with tzatziki sauce. However, the batter was lacking or maybe it was the frying technique. It was soggy and lacked crunch. The flavor was good, but when something is fried, I'm look for that crispy exterior. 2) Lamb gyro plate: it didn't seem like it was roasted on a vertical spit because the slices were too uniformed. The flavors were ok, I've had better at many other places. I got it with hummus and baba ghanoush. Both of those were ok. The hummus is chunky, which doesn't matter because I like hummus creamy or chunky. Baba ghanoush lacked eggplant flavor. The pita bread was very good! Warmed correctly, soft, and buttery. 3) Mediterranean fries: no crunch whatsoever. It seems like it was just blanched in oil. Maybe it was the lemon juice they put on it. I suggest serving it with a lemon wedge instead. 4) Baklava: I've had better. It had a very prominent pistachio flavor, which I liked...but the phyllo wasn't great. It didn't taste fresh and I've had a lot better baklava. The presentation was nice, but other than that...this place was meh IMO. To be fair, I'm pretty picky when it comes to Mediterranean food. I ordered 4 items: Kabob combination (steak and chicken) with basmati rice and hummus as the sides, fried calamari, falafel and Kid's menu chicken nuggets with fries. The kabob meat was flavorful but a bit dry. The rice was excellent, the best part. The hummus was not very creamy and smooth but tasted good. Pita bread was toasted and good. Calamari was very tender and tasted good. The marinara sauce was also good My son liked his nuggets and the fries tasted fresh and crispy. The worst item was the falafel. They were as hard as a rock!! The guy said they were supposed to be like that, crispy on the outside. I've had my share of falafel and believe me they were beyond crispy. Finally tried this place out by accidentally rediscovering it while on my way to EPL. Seen it on Yelp for awhile back and even had it bookmarked. So glad I came here! Great deal on a delicious Greek salad for $5, and just had to add the steak kabob for good measure. Place gets busy here during lunch..which is a good sign that it's pretty popular in the area. And the hostess/server/cashier that was working the front was super friendly and never missed a beat, such great service. I order the salmon filet entree with hummus and roasted veggies! The cost is about $12-$13 after taxes I confirmed with them that their salmon is Wild Caught from Alaska! Spanakopita was the best thing we ordered although it could have used more cheese inside. Chicken and steak kabobs were both overly cooked. (And what is the deal with 3 measly pieces each!?) We actually fed the steak to the dogs because it was so tough. The Greek salad side was a good portion and had a variety of veggies, but the hummus was DISGUSTING! We threw it away - I literally gagged when trying to eat it. Go to Luna Grill or even Zaky is a better option. Just wanted to come on here and say how delicious the food is, family loves to come here and have always been satisfied with the customer service, but we did have a comment to make, as we did go yesterday, we didn't think that we would be waiting 50 mins for our food. They mentioned at 40 minutes into us waiting that they have a catering going on and that it was taking them some time, I appreciate that they told us but they could have told us when we first ordered that they would be backed up and how long we'd be waiting for. I was really upset with this and especially being pregnant and hungry, it just doesn't help out, waiting for so long and not even a complimentary food item for waiting was given. After we got our food, we were so happy, of course food so delicious but then we started to see how more customers were coming in and their food was being prepared so quickly , most of them waited about 15-20 mins. I have never updated a 5 star review to a one star before. I'm really disappointed to say that my friend and I "were" frequent regulars here until yesterday. We came in around 6 when it was not so busy. We were greeted with a friendly employee Michael who gave wonderful customer service. I know his heart is in the right place and Cafe Moderno did a great job for hiring him. However, the employees that worked there longer him gives poor customer service. Sure Cafe Moderno has a high 4.4 stars right now and it's a hot restaurant atm, but I hope future customers don't receive the same customer service we received. My friend won't change her review due to her nature, but I could not bear it one bit. Their poor customer service tarnished their reputation for me when I had such high regards for them before. We ordered the Tilapia, gyro wrap, and a Greek salad. We waited for around 10minutes and then saw a couple order after us. I could tell they ordered more than us because they were taking their time. Then a few moments later their order arrived first? I didn't think too much about it until we waited a substantial amount of time for ours. All of their orders came out in an instance. Appetizers and entrees came with huge speed. We finally thought ours would come next. My friend said oh look our salad is finally arriving, but the employee (daisy who is always working there) just sat it on a different seat to eat it on her break. This situation may seem minimal to a bystander, but it's really disappointing experience. A proper etiquette to finish serving the "hungry" customers who were waiting really long then go on break? We see Daisy literally everytime we arrive to Cafe Moderno and honestly her customer service yesterday severed our ties with this business. She has served us before, but it always feels so rushed and unwelcoming. We didn't mind it before because the food was delicious, but yesterday the food was horrible. The salad finally came and the rest.. The salad was the only highlight, but there is no skill of creating salad. The tilapia dry and burnt. It seemed like whoever was working on the fish just left it on the skillet and remembered to serve it. Michael came to ask how we were doing and saw how the fish was a no no. He ordered the cook to make us a brand new one. The new tilapia was okay much improved than before. But it proved my point that they forgot about it and just served us burnt fish. I have never experienced a cook serving burnt fish to a customer before. It was my mistake for not taking a picture, my friend did tell me to take a picture, but I just wasn't hungry anymore.
