    Bugs

Full house of Bugs in my coffee. I see 7-8 on the surface level. Don't go here, it has huge food safety problems. I asked the lady to return my money back. She said the reason I have bugs in my coffee is because I brought the coffee outside( I only left store for 15 seconds, just around the corner if you know what I'm talking about). She got extremely mad at me and making gestures with her hands. However I didn't apologize to her since I think I'm the victim here. I think It's either the ice or water or cafe machine, I'm not exactly sure but it might be in your food too. I have drank the coffee few sips, if it makes me sick I will hold you guys accountable

This small restaurant packs a real punch. You may as well be in France when you're here. The owner speaks to you in French half of the time which only adds to the ambiance. The decor is cute and cozy. Somehow the place seems small like a warm hug, but there's also enough room to easily accommodate a party of 6. The food is très bien. Everything from the salad and escargot to the steak frites and creme brulee is delicious. If you are there when coq au vin is one of the daily specials, get it, it's divine.

    A perfect chicken paillard caesar.

The decor is charming, the staff is friendly and efficient. We tried 4 dishes: zucchini quiche (perfectly custardy), pain perdu (delectable), crepes americaines (yummy), and chicken paillard caesar (juicy chicken, crisp fresh lettuce, and lovely light dressing). All great! Plus a little sideboard with fruit, bread & beurre, and beet hummus. Everything was excellent! And good portions for the price. And BYOB, to boot! (There is a lovely wine store just across the street.)

Restaurant was not busy at all on a Friday night. Food was delicious. Service was prompt. BYOB.

Lovely, lovely, JUST lovely! Came for brunch on Saturday. PROS: -inside is just charming, love the warm decor. -food is very tasty, I thoroughly enjoyed everything. -coffee is Illy brand! -you can get items to go (croissants and macarons and baguettes). -prices are decent for most items. -service was nice. CONS: while the service was NICE, it was slow and I needed to remind them on some things that were forgotten. Now I know in Europe the service tends to be slow and you eat longer meals and hang around more...not sure if that rule is supposed to apply here. -many of their plates are chipped (I know this is nit picky, but one plate had 3 chips...might be time to replace some of those plates). -the pressed orange juice is extremely tasty, but the amount you get is a champagne glass amount (which it is very pretty and you feel fancy, but it's really not that much for $4) Overall I was very pleased with the experience and I would definitely come back!

Never had a bad experience here! Charming restaurant with an unpretentious yet elegant ambience. The food is superb and great value. I always get the escargot - it's delicious!

Nice brunch spot, great food and vibe. Super close to south mountain fairy tale trail. -1 star for unclear menu + mischarged (refunded) our credit card without telling us about the incident We had lamb burger, mussel, and smoked salmon egg benedict. All three are very tasty, with mussel being the best. Fries were really good the sauce is amazing. They serve a small plate of free pastry and fruit for starter. Brunch price was $17.50, same for any menu item. We found the coffee ok. But I think it's personal preference and I'm no expert to really judge.

    Where does one park?

On the street. There is also a parking deck around the corner on Essex street, as well as a municipal pay parking lot a couple blocks from the parking deck on the same side of Essex across from Fidelity.

I see a lot of reviews for brunch and lunch but not much for dinner. What are dinners like now, as of today, so to speak. What's good on the menu?

The ambiance fit the name perfectly -- subtle hints of blue throughout that tied right back to "d'Azur." We started with a glass of bubbly and focaccia served with three spreads -- the olive tapenade stood out over the butter. For the first course, I had the duck confit salad -- the duck portion itself ran a little light, but the flavor balance was excellent: sweetness from the strawberries, bitterness from the arugula, saltiness from the goat cheese, and umami depth from the duck confit. It's BYOB, we brought both red and white wine to pair across the meal. The table shared the Branzino with French chard, which was outstanding, and the steak frites, which was exceptional and perfect medium rare. I had the duck breast with mushroom, paired with a Pinot Noir -- a great match, and that same Pinot Noir worked beautifully with the steak too. To finish, we shared three desserts: crème brûlée, chocolate truffles with strawberry and pistachio, and a cognac cake topped with a chocolate whipped mousse, walnuts, and strawberry. Tough call on a favorite, but the cognac cake stole the show. Throughout dessert, the staff kept checking in without ever feeling intrusive -- a small thing, but it stood out. A great night out with drink, food, and cousins from start to finish. The service alone is worth going back for. Highly recommend.

Cool atmosphere, great energy, and good food! I also got super lucky with Hailey as my waitress. She sold me on just about every item on the menu... to the point where I completely handed over the decision-making to her. Yup, that's right, I told her what I liked and trusted her to pick my three dishes. And listen, when your name is on the menu for crafting a cocktail, I'm going to trust you to pick my meal too! Now for the food: the grilled octopus was amazing. Great flavor, perfect texture, and a really nice balance with the lentils. The shishito peppers were delicious, and the sauce that came with them added the perfect pop of flavor. The beet salad, however, was a little underwhelming. Unfortunately, it didn't have much flavor, so that one left me a bit disappointed. And then there was dessert. Oh man! Hailey did it again. She brought out the sweet corn cheesecake. Sounds weird, I know, but I had to try it. And yes, it definitely had sweet corn! It was a little too weird for my taste buds, but I'm glad I tried it.... Then came the Madeleines. Bite-sized, warm, and absolutely delicious. Fair warning: if you don't tell them to take the bowl away, you WILL eat the entire thing. Man oh man...so good!!! Overall, a really fun experience with a great atmosphere, good food, and a waitress who genuinely made the experience memorable. Kudos to Hailey for the great service and for knowing exactly what to recommend! She definitely made my night.

Dinner started with a complimentary amuse bouche of toast with brie, jam, and microgreens which was a nice surprise. For starters we shared the Pan Seared Foie Gras and the Steak Tartare which is made with raw diced Black Angus, shallot, garlic, parsley, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, mayonnaise, and croutons. Both were delicious. We also tried the escargot in garlic and parsley infused butter. While I personally prefer my escargot tucked into puff pastry hats which is a quirky preference, I know my boyfriend at the time thoroughly enjoyed them. For mains we had a beautifully cooked rack of lamb, a flavorful confit duck, and a mushroom risotto. While I found the entrées slightly under salted, the flavors were still wonderful and the cooking was spot on. We finished with two desserts which were a silky creme brulee and a perfectly risen souffle. Both were outstanding and worth saving room for. Overall Chez Catherine is a charming choice for a refined special occasion, 'old school' traditional French meal. The service, attention to detail, and classic flavors make it well worth a visit.
