First time here and I've gotta say from the outside this place lets you know food is gonna be great! Went inside got seated fast. Service was quick and efficient. It was already packed when we went in there but still it was a very relaxed ambiance. I got a Clydesdale latte. My husband a coke my girls a hot chocolate and an orange juice! All were great. The food was fantastic. The breakfast burrito has a fantastic balance of chorizo and egg. My husbands hash bowl was quite packed. FOOD: Really good, I can see why the eggs benedicts are so popular. I got the Lox Benedict, my friends got the French Toast and the Smoked Hash; none of us had anything bad to say :-) I will say though that I screwed up; I should have ordered soup instead of brunch potatoes with my Lox Benedict because it was a little too heavy. That or I should have taken half home. But yeah, it's a big portion of food! Be prepared. FYI You can get the drinks iced - I got the Ninja Turtle with Oat Milk. Wasn't great. Wasn't terrible. Came for brunch on a Sunday around Noon. Eggs and ninja turtles iced latte was good. Biscuits and gravy was okay, though the sauce was soup consistency instead of a classic thick gravy. Bacon was floppy, potatoes were bland and the French toast consistency was like it was put in a toaster instead of a griddle as it was crunchy but the apple compote was tasty. Stopped in at Cafe Nola Sunday morning for brunch and after putting our names in the waiting list we were told that we couldn't wait in the restaurant and there was no room in the waiting area so we had to go outside in 35°. We were told 20 minutes for the wait and when we went to go check on the wait (after 30 minutes) we were told that they called however we never received a call and instead of trying to seat us they proceeded to seat three other families. We were looking for some coffee in the area and did a Yelp search for places. We happened upon Cafe Nola, who after looking at their menu, boasted that they had house made syrups and alternative milks. We walked in and there was a sign on the door that said masks required, but no one inside was wearing one (including workers, which is confusing). We wanted to just order coffee but there was a sign that the coffee bar was closed. I asked a waitress if we could still order coffee and she said we could but just not take it to go. We ordered two French Toast iced lattes. I wasn't given a choice of size, but I asked if I could get my coffee half-caff (1/2 regular & 1/2 decaf). She said she would try. While we waited, she asked if we wanted anything to eat and at first, we said we didn't know and would let her know when the drinks came back. We got our drinks and she disappeared. We decided we wanted hummus and we had to try to flag her down multiple times to try to order. The hummus said it had sriracha in it and we asked how much was in it. She said not that much but she "likes spicy food," so we took a chance on it. We got it and it was literally COVERED in a tablespoon of sriracha. We scraped it off, but unfortunately, it was mixed in as well. The veggies that came with it were crisp and well cut and the pita was warmed and fresh. We tried to eat as much as we could. The drinks were good but the coffee was not mixed very well. We could only try the smallest hint of the syrup. Once we got to the bottom of the drinks, we could taste more of the syrup. We couldn't ask for the drinks to be adjusted since our waitress kept disappearing. It took nearly an hour to leave due to flagging down. Before heading back to Pittsburgh, we wanted to try out a new cafe close by to end the bday trip! We stopped by Cafe Nola, which ended up being an excellent choice! The inside was super cute, and had a little bar area, high top tables, and regular tables as well! We sat at a high top table and ordered some coffees right away: I got a black coffee, my girlfriend got a German Chocolate (her favorite) latte, and her friend got a Carmel latte! The coffees were excellent, and I had about 3-4 cups because it was so good! I ordered a Mexican inspired breakfast: cheese and eggs served on top of 2 tortillas and beans! This was also served with avocado and pico, and was incredible! This tasted so fresh, and i dont know if it was because I had just finished a run before hand, but I devoured this! My girlfriend ordered the same thing and finished her plate completely! Her friend got the Pick Me Up with fruit, and since she's not a big breakfast person we were able to clean up the rest of her plate! I stopped by Cafe Nola for a brunch the day after thanksgiving. We loved everything about it. The place is really cute with these funny whimsical paintings all around. The service was excellent and of course most importantly the food was delicious. We got the hash with vegan sausage which was amazing. This was my first time coming to this cafe! It was nice. I'm happy that I arrived early because, it's small. I'm also glad that we had a small group too because, of this. The service was good and the food was okay! The location was cool, and it was really nice being downtown and socializing with my friends! The "Ninja Turtle" latte would have been delightful if it had been hot. It wasn't cold, but it was too cool to be enjoyable. I ordered the Chicken Sliders and they looked divine, but they tasted ok. The biscuit was on point, but the breading/batter on the chicken wasn't seasoned or was lightly seasoned. It was bland. The chicken was hot out the grease though, and I liked the honey drizzle. Finally, I had the shrimp and grits. It was good, nice plump shrimp and andouille sausage, but I think that it was missing "The Cajun Trinity" (onions, bell peppers, and celery), or green onions. I loved that the grits were creamy, but I needed that tang that you get from using sharp cheddar cheese in the grits. Don't get me wrong, I think that this version is good, but it just needed a little something besides "Cajun Seasoning" to lift up the flavor. I don't like having to add salt or additional seasoning to my food. I think if it had a more of the items I mentioned the flavor profile may have been on point for me. The food the way it is maybe cool for some, and that's ok, but I know what I'm used to having and how we cook cheesy grits and shrimp and grits back home down in the south. Overall it was cool! This place is conveniently located in downtown Frederick, so plenty of parking garages and street parking. There's also a lot of stores for folks to walk around before or after eating at Cafe Nola (or while waiting!). When we went on a weekday afternoon it was packed - we put our names down and the wait was around 20 minutes. It's a small restaurant so it can get pretty crowded. The staff were all pretty friendly and we had a nice experience! For the food, I got the buffalo chicken wrap, which was really tasty and quite a lot! This rating is more a 3.5. I'll just say up front I was fairly unimpressed by the service. Our waiter was friendly enough but was pretty neglectful. Came here for breakfast on a weekday with a couple of my coworkers. The restaurant was not busy at all. Staff was very attentive, and answered our questions and made recommendations. I must say the coffee was fantastic, my latte was creamy and delicious. I ordered the lox Benedict and it was cooked perfectly. I've ordered lox on a Benedict in the past from other places, but none of them compared to this. Cafe Nola is a popular breakfast spot in downtown Frederick. My wife, toddler and I went during the pandemic and sat outside on their makeshift street dining area. Here's our experience: 1) Food: My wife enjoyed her smoked hash. It comes with a poached egg that spills over into the smoked chorizo, potatoes and onions. It's made from Russett potatoes and sweet potatoes giving it a great flavor. My daughter liked her grilled cheese and chili. My Italian Benedict was good, but small. The English muffin it comes on is very flat. To fill you up, get the side of potatoes v. the fruit cup (apples, grapes and oranges). 2) Atmosphere: There's an indoor large no-frills dining room with two unisex bathrooms. First time here, had a long wait and you'd think the food would be phenomenal. I had a basic avocado toast hoping to be a pretty quick visit due to my time constraints and to be considerate of others waiting in line. Took a looonng walk with a friend and our dogs - stopped for drinks at Cafe Nola - or at least that was the plan. The bartender carded my friend - who is 60 and insisted I come inside to show ID - and I'm nearly 60 - complete with grey hair. They would not sell me a drink because I didn't have my physical ID card on me - had a photo on my phone. This is absurd - Maryland law does not REQUIRE me to produce ID to buy alcohol if it is clear I am of age. I also offered to show ID - albeit not the physical card - again - not the requirement. That is NOT just "doing your job" - it is unnecessary and verges on harassment. Don't take my word for it - here is the law: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/ABS/carding/index-old.html "employees will have discretion, not to require an ID, from those customers that obviously meet the age requirements. This policy is adopted to assure and assist proper compliance with Maryland law, prohibiting sale of alcoholic beverages to people under 21 years of age. Great service from the place and seemed happily busy at a late brunch an hour after noon. The tea was not my cup of tea, while munching on the potatoes was good enough. The bartender who took care of us smiled constantly and was so perfectly attentive without hovering that again we were stumped at our usual game of finding suitable complaints; 3. She said she could not accommodate us together but we could seat in different tables far away from each other. This little cafe is such a treat. We were strolling the streets of downtown Frederick, admiring all the beautiful Christmas lights; and wandered inside. This place was bustling! We were greeted immediately by the host, and waited about 15-20 minutes to be seated. It took even less time than that. Our server, Nathan, greeted us 2 minutes after we sat down. Since it was our first visit, we ask for his recommendations. He said his favorite was the Migas (think breakfast tortilla, only better) and the Lox Benedict, so that's what we ordered. While we waited, we sipped 2 decadent latte's. I had the Betty White Latte, and my partner had the Banana Foster Latte. It was so rich, full, and delicate at the same time - like clouds in a cup! Nathan returned to serve us. The presentation was wonderful, and our meal was cooked to perfection. Flavorful, savory, and satisfying! The Hollandaise sauce was out of this world! Can't say enough nice things about this place. Every employee we interacted with was cheerful and polite. The negative is the only reason this place is getting 4 instead of 5 stars. They do not do reservations so you are SOL if you're coming from out of town without one because the wait can be anywhere from 20-30 mins. Yes you can peruse other stores nearby while you give them your number and wait for a call, but that's a pain in rainy or wintry weather. With a reservation at least your spot is secured. Just seems inconvenient. Can't they do a wait list on Yelp like Firstwatch does? On to the food. I got a Ninja Turtle coffee which absolutely hit the spot. It was sweet and warm and just what I needed on a rainy day. For my entree I got the Lox benedict and I have to say it was one of the best ones I've had in recent years. Some have complained that the English muffin was too tough to cut through but I did not have that issue. The poached eggs were perfect, not over or under cooked. And the dill hollandaise was delicious. My friend had the smoked hash and said it was also very good. I would love to come back for brunch again, but the standing around for 20-30 mins situation is daunting. This was our second time at Cafe Nola. Unfortunately, it was a very similar experience to our first visit, just average overall and somewhat disappointing. Our issue was not with the service, it was great. Both the host and the server met our expectations. Our issue was not with the overall décor. It has a cluttered cozy-cafe vibe. However, if you look too close you'll probably be a bit disappointed as it's a bit rough and dated. Our problem with Cafe Nola is the quality of the food. It is bland and basic. I'm guessing that the owners are attempting to offer a product at a specific price point so they are forced to offer average diner-type food. There are very few, if any, good breakfast restaurants in Frederick so with little competition, Cafe Nola is probably not hurting for business. To the owners of Cafe Nola, if your goal is to increase business or to increase margins, start by elevating your food. Bring in a food consultant if your current chef doesn't have the skill set to do this. Until this happens, we won't return. Note, we live 1.7 miles away. read more

Food was pretty solid. I had French toast with an Apple compote, it was honestly delicious. I was very excited to see my fave plant based sausage, beyond meat. The tea latte left way too much to be desired. And I had suuuuch high hopes. It was brought to me in like 2 minutes, no exaggeration, meaning it didn't even steep. Ambiance was artsy, funky, kinda homey. It was a great view of the passerby's, which probably closer to lunch time would be more eventful. There was an extensive creative latte menu. My friend and I had lunch at Cafe Nola during our trip to Downtown Frederick. For drinks we got the German Chocolate and Blackberry White Mocha and for food I got the lox Benedict and my friend ordered the breakfast burrito. The drinks were served in nice large mugs, but I was disappointed to find a lack of latte art. The drinks were yummy, but I couldn't taste much blackberry in mine. I got potatoes with my lox Benedict and they kindly substituted the chorizo in my friend's breakfast burrito with cauliflower. The portion sizes were large (I was unable to finish my entire plate) and this was one of the best lox benedicts I've had. Piled on the English muffin is a heavenly layer of avocado, smoked salmon, a perfectly poached egg, and capers sprinkled on top.
