I thought I could order any sandwich on the menu, but was informed I could only get the Tosta Mista (ham and cheese). I ordered that and the soup of the day. The sandwich was the most basic sandwich that my 12-year old daughter would have laughed at. It was a paper-thin provolone and an even thinner slice of ham on some OK sourdough that was barely grilled. While we were waiting, a large group came in and greeted Olivia and I asked if they were related as I noticed a striking resemblance of this sweet young lady. It was several members of her family and they all sat down next to my mother and I along the remaining counter seating which was fun. She informed us that she had recently started working there and was very kind, outgoing, and smiling frequently as she cleaned up various tables in the dining room. Her mom was so nice to chat with that her family asked my mom and I to lean in for a family photo they took. This made for an entertaining meal. I also had a chance to chat with another nice customer from Muncie who was waiting for a table to open up. Friendly atmosphere, delicious food, kind people, and great view for observation continue to make this one of my favorite places to return when visiting my hometown. Last Christmas alone, I purchased $1,000 in Grindstone gift cards, and we've routinely tipped the bartenders 30-40% because the bar staff has always treated us extremely well. Unfortunately, after six years, that relationship has come to an end. We had brought Grindstone three cocktail recipes we enjoy--two from a favorite restaurant in Illinois and one based on the Liquid Love Affair from 1933 Lounge in Fishers. Management eventually created a special POS button for our cocktails and charged $10.50 each. We were recently informed that ownership had decided to increase those drinks to $15 each--a 43% increase overnight. I understand prices increase. Had they gone to $11 or $12, I wouldn't have thought twice about it. What I found unreasonable was charging $15--the same price as Grindstone's signature cocktails--for recipes we supplied ourselves. One of those drinks is based on the Liquid Love Affair from 1933 Lounge. I can literally walk from my house to 1933 Lounge and purchase the actual cocktail for $15. Why would I drive 20 minutes to Noblesville and pay the same price for Grindstone's version? We were also told a dirty martini at Grindstone is $13. This wasn't about being unable to afford another $4.50. Someone buying $1,000 in gift cards and tipping 30-40% isn't being financially devastated by a few dollars. It was about how six years of loyalty was treated. What happened afterward was equally disappointing. After I posted reviews elsewhere describing our experience, Grindstone publicly responded, acknowledged our six years and 300+ weekends of loyalty, specifically acknowledged the 43% increase, and asked me to email management so we could have a "meaningful conversation" and they could have the opportunity to "make this right." I did exactly what they asked. Three days later, I had received no response, and Grindstone had deleted its public response asking me to contact management. I retained a screenshot of that response. The bartenders deserve none of the criticism here. They've always treated us wonderfully, and they're the part of Grindstone we'll genuinely miss. There are simply too many locally owned restaurants and bars whose owners work hard to earn and retain loyal customers. Another local restaurant owner has already gone out of his way to stock the liquor necessary to make our cocktails and charges $12 for them. Grindstone didn't lose two six-year customers because we couldn't afford another $4.50. They lost two six-year customers because of how six years of loyalty was handled--and unfortunately, management's response afterward only reinforced our decision.

If someone asked me, now, where my favorite breakfast burrito is located, Mornings might pop into my head. Because the breakfast burrito here is bangin'. It's appropriately mushy in all the right places. (If you know me, then you know that "mushy" is a big compliment when describing a burrito.) It has hash browns that aren't too crispy, diced bacon (or whatever other meat you choose), scrambled eggs, cheese, all wrapped in a thin flour tortilla. The breakfast burrito also comes with a side of sour cream and salsa verde, plus an additional side. I chose fried potatoes. I got my breakfast burrito to go, like you should. Do people eat burritos sitting down in a restaurant? Aren't they made to be eaten in a car, precariously gripped in one hand, with the other had on the steering wheel, maneuvering around roundabouts? Or in a car, dripping sweat into the to-go container as you hover over it to shove the last bits of burrito into your face after a vigorous yoga session? Burritos are meant to be eaten in cars, obviously, so I got my breakfast burrito to go. Burritos, like many things, taste better when they're eaten in a car. When I visited Mornings early in the morning, the music was blasting in the dining room. I don't know if they always have it this loud, or if maybe they were just trying to pump up the staff, or if maybe I'm just old and everything is loud now, but the music was very loud. Everything came out quickly, thanks to Froy and Eduardo in the kitchen. I made sure to tell them how great the food was, and their big smiles said it all you can tell they genuinely care about both quality and service. There's plenty of parking, which is always a plus.
