Love this mom and pop sandwich shop!!! They sell tortas, Mexican pastries, frappes, smoothies, green juices, raspados, ice cream, street snacks (like tostilocos), grilled sandwiches, specialty coffee, aguas frescas and their staple Oaxacan frappes (not sure why they're called this if they don't use Oaxacan chocolate but I digress). I can only comment on the tortas and green juices and I absolutely love them both. I like their tortas so much that I ordered them for a big work event and the business came through!!! I only gave 24 hours notice and she took a small $20 deposit and delivered all the tortas to my office down the street without an extra charge. My favorite tortas are the turkey breast and milanesa (breaded steak) both great. As for the juices I love the vampiro or vampire (beet) fresh pressed juice. It's also enormous probably comparable to the size of the big gulp at 7/11. I know I'll be a loyal customer as I work down the street and have always received great customer service and delicious food!!!

Walked 10 blocks to get here from my AirBnb in 'da Hood...so worth it! Small, intimate, and DELICIOUS. Welcoming and friendly, the women at counter made me feel as if I lived in the neighborhood. (Her English owned my stumbling Spanish.) The menu has plenty of vegetarian options and lots of fresh juice choices. I got: Quesillo torta (round sandwich) w/ avocado and an iced coffee. $10. It was plenty and perfect. Cafe Oaxaca is a tiny oasis of good flavors and feelings. A must-do in the neighborhood.

    Duroloco, my tijuana style

I have continued to come here for the past few months, almost on a daily basis. What started as a morning juice stop has become my lunch and evening snack spot. Sometimes my boyfriend and I sidetrack and come by during the weekend. Co-workers have started visiting this little spot of antojito heaven also. I've tried their tostilocos, raspado de coco and raspado de nuez, all very yummy. Today I tried a treat I haven't had in over 10 years, since moving back to the states from Tijuana, B.C and that is the duroloco. A Foot- sized square churro, topped with cueritos, repollo and a concoction blend of sour cream, lemon juice and salsa valentina, drizzled over the churro. Delicious!!!! This is my version of the duroloco, the stores version includes tomato and avocado. (I will have to try that next time.) So happy this family owned spot opened up here. Please stop by and support local business.

Great place. If you're hooked on those Winchells green juices like I was come here instead. Bigger size better quality.

They have really good food! They have restrooms available which is quite rare with small food joints (not many subways provides customers with restrooms), and i was able to charge my phone. Stop by and try their Hawaiian Torta ( Sandwhich), its the speciality!!

I tried their green smoothie. It was fresh and delicious. I will definitely be coming back for more.

I love this little spot. They hv the best pressed juices. It's also very affordable! The same juice at a place near work is $6 more!

I preach this place like i was on their payroll haha, but they sell themselves. I have put on so many people to this place. So many options, lots of bottle/cans and a rotating draft menu that carries more than IPAs, nothing wrong with IPAs, i drink them but other types exist. I can always find my funky Sours on tap, and did i mention delicious fresh samiches? Dayum son! Hope nothing but good luck for them, they are a staple in Downey's DNA.

My best friend of nearly 40yrs and I really enjoy a well made sandwich. In our pursuit of great…read moresandos, we've tried Katz Deli in NYC, Brent's in Northridge and even the sorely missed but never forgotten Miller's East Coast Deli in San Francisco. So when, tasked with finding a suitable place for our quarterly lunch meeting, I entered "Jewish deli" and "Downey" into Yelp, half expecting to find the lackluster lineup of national chains that PURPORT to make good sandwiches- Subway, Joysie Mike's, Jimmy John's and the usual suspects of sandwich sorriness! Imagine then, fellow Yelpers, when Uncle Henry's Deli appeared...as welcome a sight as my gorgeous bikini-clad wifey. Both Mick and I, who first bonded over our shared love of the national pastime, immediately likened Henry's with the MLB legend who shares my birthday- Henry Louis Aaron, aka Hamnerin' Hank and the REAL all-time home run leader, Barry Bonds and his oversized gourd, er, head be damned. In his 22yr career, Aaron belied his average size (5ft 11 tall, 185 lbs) and deployed his missile-fast wrists to smack 755 homers. All while playing in Jim Crow era Atlanta. Uncle Henry's Deli, similarly, defies expectations. Who would think of putting a Jewish-style delicatessen in Downey, famous for birthing the honey-voiced Carpenters and the self-styled "Mexican Beverly Hills?!" Mick ordered a super sized Original, which is turkey, roast beef + ham plus cheddar on white. He went with potato wedges which are sizable. Me? I chose one hot, one cold. A super sized Big B (Pastrami, Bacon + Swiss on toasted sourdough, hold the pickles) and an Egg Salad on enviably well made squaw bread, hold the tomatoes. Pro Tip- From a lifetime of ordering well made sandos in every major city in America, never put tomatoes on a cold sandwich unless you want the notoriously water-dense fruit to dampen your sandwich! The only mild drawback of my food order was the side of potato salad, which in my opinion would benefit from some black pepper and minced celery. The service at Henry's is expedient- You've barely helped yourself to one of their dark wood benches when they've called your order! The restroom was, yes, as cozy as the overall venue...but sufficiently clean + stocked. Watch out, tho- The hot water runs hotter than the devil's temperature! In closing, you can take Uncle Henry's to the bank. Yes, you'll part with upwards of a Jackson, mebbe even two. But you'll enjoy the treat, cuz the caliber of food is very bit as real as the hammer (aka Louisville Slugger) that Hamnering Hank used to bash all of his home runs with.
